The San Diego Zoo is one of the best places to visit in San Diego and should be on everyone's list. If you enjoy seeing animals and learning about them too in a very well maintained and humane way then help support the zoo.
The zoo has also just finish construction on a lot of new paths and enclosures that help show off the animals but give them privacy as well.
Check it out!

This was my the first time at the San Diego zoo. I was impressed with the vast amount of trees and bamboo, providing tons of shade! Make sure you have good walking shoes on, as there's a lot of ground to cover! A little pricey, but worth it. Arizona has it all wrong!!

The SD zoo earns it's international reputation as one of the best zoos in the world. The zoo's focus on conservation, it's abundance of animals, and the unique support of local businesses make it a San Diego must do.

San Diego Zoo!!!! Very good family place to spend the whole day and leave with good memories after all...Better if you go early and have enough time to walk through the park. Because is big enough!!!! Price little bit to high on everything, but you can bring some with you and save money.

It s a wonderful place to stroll about, taking in nature and having the opportunity to see and learn about creatures and species that you wouldn t normally get to see otherwise. The World Famous San Diego Zoo takes so much care and pride in the amount of research and education that goes in to the care and study of their animal/plant guests. If it weren t for the SD Zoo, I wouldn t have ever seen pandas, koalas, giraffes, elephants, ...aww heck, any of them. Or how about the relationship between support animals for other animals; dogs and big cats. And I love being greeted by the flamingos.

Make sure you do not buy your ticket through your credit card rewards program. It took us 20 min with the cashier to get checked in because they couldn't print us a ticket even though on our printout that we brought it had our itinerary number and they had our ID. We were not even given food vouchers for the wait or inconvenience. We drove 2 hours. First and last time at this zoo.

An excellent way to spend the day. Bus tour provides a good overview of the different regions of the zoo, while being informative in a reasonably paced 35 minute tour. Open air exhibits allow for a great interaction to the animals while also being safe for animals and visitors. Additionally, lots of staff/educators around available to answer questions which is very welcome!

Only suggestion would be for better management of popular exhibits like giant panda/tigers/polar bear as the areas get busy and it becomes hard to navigate.

A horticultural beauty, nice animals, knowledgeable docents at every turn and the best watermelon candy on the planet. Bring your walking shoes and plan to spend some time. There is a separate part and price for one of the venues which is miles away we didn't have time go, it was disappointing. So ask all questions before you go.

It is one of the best place you'll ever experience. It's a park, it's a jungle, and their are all kinds of wild animals in the best habitats possible.plus they have rides like their skyride that goes very high over the park/jungle. One of my favourite places.

I love the Zoo. I like to visit only two or three sections when I visit. Only time I ha e done it all at once, I took the bus tour. My favorite is Albert's for lunch. The food is really good and I adore the ambiance. A total winner..and we are members, which it great when family comes to town because we have free guest passes and coupons for the stores. We also take our souvenir cups every time we visit to save a little on drinks ;)

The zoo is great. You can ask the keepers any question and they can usually answer. The animals are very well taken care of and the money you pay to get in goes back into the animal care and research they are doing to save the animals.

Haven't been here in about 4yrs, I'm so happy we decided to buy the year passed for the family. The renovations they've made are amazing. Love there variety of animals and plant life. Perfect place to walk around especially with our San Diego weather. The only bad side is the children's zoo is closed for renovations. From the looks of it, there will be no petting zoo like before but more kid friendly activities.

It was my first time visiting this zoo, and it was a magnificent experience. This zoo has a huge variety of animals and much larger than any zoo in California. The prices for food and souvenir are reasonable.

It is so beautiful right now! The rains made it into a true jungle which makes all the animals happy. The animals have been so vibrant lately. I love how the zookeeper interact with the animals, the animals love them so much. Very happy we have passes.

(Visited August of 2017) Really big zoo. Bring comfy shoes. It s so much to do that we stayed from opening till closing. The highlight of the trip was being able to feed the giraffes. We payed $15 each for that activity. Also take advantage of the buses inside as it is a great way to get off our your feet. One thing I will say is the map isn t or wasn t really accurate so we did get extra walking because we were lost.

Amazing experience! Very well organized zoo with lots of information! We had an enriching experience worth the money for our family of 4! We will definitely be coming back.

I recommend walking toward the back and taking the bus on your way to the front. Expect to walk ALOT if you intend on seeing all the animals. The terrain is hilly, so wear good shoes and get a good stretch in before you.

We loved the polar bear exhibit! And it was awesome to be able to get right up close face to face with an endangered tiger. I loved the emphasis the Zoo has on animal conservation and especially loved the exhibit that showed the past animals of California!

Such a cool zoo with so much wildlife to see and education to absorb! The zoo's conservation efforts alone are a reason to support them, but, or course, you do get to explore nature and the places many of the animals originate from as well. The environment is just so we'll constructed and exciting that even as an adult I find myself just as in awe as when I first went as a child. Perhaps even a little moreso.

Oh, and make sure to go see the cheetah and golden retriever friends for some wonderful "aww" moments!

The bridge overlooking the pandas was cool. Koalas were a nice place for a break. Make sure to take advantage of the kangaroo bus as there are lots of different directions to head once you start down a path. Very nice zoo.

Wear comfortable shoes! My husband and I went on our vacation- walked over 6 miles in the zoo. Rather pricey $112 total for two adults- plan to stay the whole day to get your monies worth.

Exhibits were great, everything was clean and well maintained. Had a wonderful time!

Haven't been here since about 10 or 12. Still so much fun! Favorites were the mama n baby hippo, grizzly bear playing on his back, panda! This was also the Zoo After Dark....best time to go!!!

As a young Sea Cadet I was taken here as part of the 'boot camp' teenagers and reservists were subjected to in the early 1960's. The adults didn't go to the Zoo. It was a real highlight to marching, gas chambers, etc. It also prepared me for Army Basic which was much harder.
The zoo was and is more beautiful than when I was there but the memory of such a humane Animal Sanctuary has lasted.

It's a great zoo in terms of range of exhibits and animals. However I found the condition of housing of many birds and animals such as hornbills and elephants to be constricted and somewhat cruel. It's very amusement parkish and felt a bad taste in my mouth to have animals exhibited like amusement park rides. I don't think I'll be going back here.

The free aviaries are the hidden gems and perhaps the part of the zoo that we enjoyed the most.

The children will definitely have fun and get a kick out of visiting the zoo and seeing all the exotic animals in real life.

Wonderful experience of the zoo. We had family visiting from India and we were on vacation and decided to visit San Diego for a day and this place was on our checklist in no 1. It's worth the trip.

It's everything they say it is. Family friendly free in park transportation. Amazing exhibits. You don't walk any length without seeing an exhibit. Tons of food stands. If you hesitate to do zoos these days go ahead and let yourself see this one. You won't regret it.

Such a great place to visit when you are in San Diego. The zoo is huge and has so many different animals to observe. You can hop on a bus tour that will give you a great run of the park. After that, I recommend going to visit the exhibits that you cannot see from the bus. My favorite was the jaguar!

Great place for the family to take a daycation and look at the beautiful animals. I really enjoyed seeing the elephants. Majority of the animals showed their backsides to us however, I guess they re fed up with captivity. Overall the place is clean, they have great deals for military during certain months, the landscaping is breathtaking.

Very nice zoo! The staff was very helpful every three seconds that i had a question. we may have went a little to early (as soon as they opened) cause most of the animals seemed to be sleeping and resting still. Regardless I'd definitely go again next time i visit San Diego!
