This places is huge, we went to see the exhibit of Texas women, something similar and it was so interesting. They had great art, you have to go with a different mindset to enjoy the pieces. I really enjoyed the ones that I have attached to my review.
Great place had some amazing exhibits. New Guinea is definitely my favorite section go check it out.
Currently significant construction, several areas closed.
It is a must is I recommend going at least once every 3 months if not more
There are so many opportunities to experience and see so many styles of art at SAMA. The museum is quite large and to truly experience all of the art, one would have to probably make multiple trips to see all the art. The permanent collection recently rotated some pieces of art out, so new art is always available to see every couple of years.
Love the displays and always enjoy my time there but the price of admission is pretty steep
Lots of really cool exhibitsfrom ancient Rome to ancient Egypt to Italian art American art Spanish art the building is filled with wonders of the world
I love the calm and quiet atmosphere that comes with roaming the museum. Art has always been a love of mine.
Absolute treasure, definitely worth a visit. We went to check out the Asian exhibits and very quickly realized we are going to have to come back. Definitely worth multiple trips.
very nice museum they have history of AMERICAN, ASIAN, FRENCH, LATIN, AFRICAN, EGYPTIAN GREEK,ROMAN, very ancient pottery, and statues of important people , clothes they use to make and wear. back in those centuries,
Well nothing that I am astonished but good in what fits
Not as big as other museums but it is good, quiet and clean.
The museum sustained some water damage while we visited and some exhibits were closed. When fully operational I would give a 5 star.
Still one of my favorite museums in SA. New exhibits are neat, and free Tuesday nights are a great idea for date night or a cool downtown thing to do!
Very nice chef Jason dady was awesome for this event I worked
Always a pleasure seeing the best the world has to offer!
It had some very cool exhibits. The Lovers Bench was cool, as well as some of the more contemporary art that didn't look like a child splattered paint on the wall.
Must visit place, it contains art pieces from Greek, egyptian, japanese and ancient Chinese dynasties.
A large collection spread across many floors. There were a number of Spanish colonial pieces which fit into the history of the city.
There is so much to see here, lots of history from Egypt, Greece, India, Japan and more. I could have easily spent the whole day here. It's a nice location near the river. There's also a cafe in case you get hungry. Definitely worth visiting!
Love the ambience and collections that are displayed, especially special events
So cool to go on a Tuesday and almost have the entire collection to myself!
Clean, beautiful and educational. Very safe and the ability to social distance is great.
Awesome that we have this in SA. Open till 9 on fridays, great for date night
Good deals but not enough painted art. A lot of history and pottery just not what we expected.
I can only say one thing AWESOME!. I am hoping to make this a regular for me and the family. I like they have free access on Tuesday and Sunday. Let's you know what you are getting for your money before you commit.
I was fortunate enough to go during the 500 Years of Spain exhibit and it was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. The paintings displayed were extraordinary. And the regular collection is impressive. I love the variety of paintings and artifacts that can be seen in this 8 level museum. Technically it's four levels but there are two wings so 8 feels truer. On the Japan floor is one of my favorite pieces, a vase with cranes, the intricacies and craftsmanship are quite remarkable. Honestly, there are too many pieces that spoke to me and really stood out. I haven't been to all of San Antonio's museums yet but so far this one is my favorite.
Great antiquities collection, well worth a visit. Free admission Su morning!
This museum is wonderful. Have family in town and wanted to get them out to see the San Antonio sites but also have been very good and staying home this year due to Covid. With that being said this is a wonderful place to go to stay safe during this crazy time. We went on a Tuesday around 1 pm (San Antonio residents are free starting at 4p) and there was no one there and so, so much to see.
Currently exhibiting Greek, Roman and Egyptian art as well as a the Exquisite Adornment - Turkmen and Miao jewelry which let me tell you is impressive.
There is even work by Kehinde Wiley.
Was so captivated by some of the work I purchased a print in the gift shop. Again, will definitely be returning.
Need a place to stay cool while enriching your life? Tuesdays are free! They also have wonderful exhibits that come through. If only they had a cafe, I would spend an entire day there.
Great collection of art & artefacts really well presented - very accessible for all ages but with true depth available for the aficionado.
Great place tons of art !!! THANKS TO HEB ON TUESDAYS IS FREE FROM 4-9pm
Great museum with several levels. Many different exhibits. It's located right on the river walk and it's very peaceful. I loved the Mummy's and Egyptian artifacts. They offer free admission on Tuesdays and Sunday's ( specific hours).
There's lots to see here about Latin American art, and there are a surprising amount of artifacts on display, such as masks or tools. When I visited, I was disappointed because the European art section, which I was looking forward to, was still under construction, along with the entire 3rd and 4th floor. I enjoyed going, but it didn't take me long to explore most of the museum (~30-45 min). I do, however, hope to return upon the reopening of the European art section!
Appreciate the effort but it just wasn't comfortable. Extremely glad we went during the no charge time.
It s amazing and I hope every one he visit
I loved
Great variety of artwork on different mediums dating from antiquity to modern contemporary
I like being outdoors on our many sunny blue sky days, but when cloudy/rainy its nice to do something indoors. San Antonio Museum of Art is a fantastic place to spend a few hours learning and appreciating the exhibits. Easily accessible from the riverwalk. The gift shop has some nice replicas and trinkets. Go with an open mind and enjoy yourself.
Attended Family Day at SAMA and it was fantastic. So many Activities for the children and the whole family was able to see the entire museum. Thank you SAMA!
Perfect day: Coffee at Rosella, a cool stroll through the SA Museum of Art, an evening at the Luxury.
Soo much to see, amazing historical items from all around the world. Just exploring around will make you wonder in amazement. Though it is incomplete due to renovations but still plenty to see. It should also be noted that the gift shop is expensive though if you're considering purchasing a souvenir. But nonetheless, I enjoyed visiting this museum.
This museum was much much bigger than I anticipated. There were so many works on display and a very wide selection. My school group had a great time, everyone found a piece they liked. I can't wait to go again.
Absolutely the best! And on sundays you can get general admission for free until noon! Definitely worth it.
What an amazing collection! Kudos to the curator, definitely a must if you're any kind of close!
Such a wide variety of artwork! Many historical pieces; sculpture, furniture, coins, glass work, jewelry, pottery, etc..
My 6y daughter and I went here for their free evening outdoor theatre. They were showing a few independent animated films that won children's awards. It was very chill and felt safe (we're new to San Antonio and Texas so weren't sure what to expect). We'll definitely be back and check out the actual museum on a free Sunday.
Good attraction. I'm a local but do recommend to out of state.
Much more than expected! Nice global curation. Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Oceanic, etc. The gift shop was also better than recent ones I've visited of late.
Very good recommend to visit you feel you will travel to all the world in one place.
They closed many sections when I visited. Some of the paintings at first floor didn t have illustrations.
What a beautiful place. The tour was amazing and the person leading the group cared very much about sharing the stories behind each piece.
Excellent docent, worth the hop on, hop off stop and free certain mornings.
I continue to find comfort and piece at SAMA. I first visited SAMA in 2003 when I first moved to this part of the country. Now, I really enjoy attending on Free Tuesdays as it allows my children to attend and really see the things that they want to see most without feeling the need to see everything because one has purchased a ticket. The grounds are lovely, and there is a peace here that is truly comforting.
Beautiful location and collections. Much larger than it looks from outside, plan for a full day to see everything! The Latin American collection was really lovely.
The serenity of fine art cannot be overstated. Absorbing other cultures, seeing the world through other's eyes.
Leaving the best for last, the Latin America Folk art was the best. Love it will go back
Cool place. They change up the art depending on the month which keeps you wanting to go back and see more.
Very great place to view works of art. There is a huge variety of art, from paintings to pottery this place has a ton of things to see.
The atmosphere is very nice as well, very clean. Nobody from the staff will be lurking around your shoulder when you look at anything either, which is very nice.
Highly recommend going here! There is a lot to see and you won't regret it.
Great selection of pieces. Saw the Heaven and Hell exhibit which was very interesting. Loved the Latin American folk art.
Had a fun free day! I have only been there one other time and only the 1st floor. This time we went to all the floors and explores all cultures, enjoyed the evening there and the views from the bridge.
I didn't think I would enjoy this place as much as I did. If you're in San Antonio, and have nothing better to do, you should consider coming here. I was impressed with their collection of Egyptian and Asian artifacts. I spent 2.5 hours there which is quite a bit of time for a museum in a small town. Parking is free in the lot across the street, if you're visiting the museum ($10 if you're not visiting the museum). If you get cold easily you should bring a sweater because their A/C works very well. You can bring your water bottle in as long as you keep it in the purse. The restroom closest to the entrance (past the gift shop to the left), offers free sanitary napkins and tampons in the women's restroom.
So enjoyed ancient exhibits of Egyptian, Greek and Roman discoveries
Great collection and. Asset to San Antonio. Also has convenient food.
Very large museum. Be prepared for a lot of walking
Small anthropology collections of art from many cultures. Not what we were expecting. The layout doesn't have a great flow to it and the map isn't much help.
A large and lovely art Museum with global collections of art from a wide time period.
This museum offers a beautiful array of outdoor art installations and sculptures for those of us who enjoy walking our dogs in the wee hours of the night. I have yet to be a guest in side of the museum yet feel very safe and secure while walking my blue heeler along the Riverwalk as well as street level, even in the very late evenings, which offers a serene and breathtaking experience, especially for people who love art.
Great museum! They offer Multi-Sensory tours for low vision guests once a month.
Went there for the free day over spring break. What a wonderful time we had looking through art from different cultures. Even the little ones enjoyed it. The photo section was especially impactful.
This museum of art is very nice. Lots of great artifacts and interesting relics.
This is a great art museum, but not a great place to take children under the age of 5. There are a lot of exposed paintings, sculptures and artifacts for them to touch or knock over. If you were looking for an indoor museum to take the kids to, I would recommend the Witte or DoSeum instead. They have a great collection of artwork, however, and some really cool historical exhibits. Go for one of their wine nights and stroll the museum with glass in hand. Also keep in mind that SAMA Offers free admission every Tuesday from 4 pm to 9 pm.
I was given an assumption that I served in the IDF.
Excellent place. This Museum has a great collection of art from all the world and different times in history. You will definitely need more than a couple of hours to enjoy everything.
