SAMA has a classical collection of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art, and a lovely collection of Chinese ceramics. There is also a collection of European and American paintings and a great Spanish colonial area showcasing a spectacular retablo. Besides car, you can access the property through the river taxi.

The museum has an adequate display, it's not a very big museum hence collection is very limited. I did enjoy strolling around the displays and the museum shop, but nothing particularly impressive there though.

Easily accessible from Riverwalk. On the hop on/hop off bus route as well. Fantastic collections. Need a couple of hours at least to fully explore. Good rainy day activity. There was a John Marin visiting exhibit during my time at the Museum. Very worthwhile stop in San Antonio

Great art museum. Very diverse exhibits, covering ancient Greece, Asia, and South American art as well as American and European paintings and modern art. A little bit for everyone! Also right on the San Antonio river walk and within walking distance of the Pearl district and lots of delicious food options.

I was impressed by the abundance of art forms they had to show here based on culture and viewing how art has been around for many generations goes to show that it has definitely changed. It's impressive and I definitely would love to come back. Really giant aesthetic sort of elevator that did scare me in the beginning but was still awesome

It has a lot more than I expected. The special kids events are always fun. The regular price of admission is a bit high for what you get though. Their gift shop is pretty cool. It has lots of great replica art in various forms. Parking does fill up fast during special events. There is a small parking lot across the creek from Tre, the museums restaurant and for 5 bucks the short walk is enjoyable.

This museum was fantastic don't judge to old exterior look. The inside is very modern with beautiful pieces of art from all over the world to even include American art. The staff is super helpful and friendly. They asked all the right questions to help me with what I was looking for even suggested other art I would probably be interested in. Love it here very kid friendly also.

Amazing works in this place, the exhibits are rotated out pretty regulary. The website has only a portion of their displayed pieces. They have a skywalk with a beautiful view of the city. If you are an art lover or just hold a small interest in art, this is a wonderful place to visit. They have night events involving sketch sessions, free nights, and more. Check out their website for more info! It's probably a bit boring for young children, plus they get a bit loud. I would only advise it for older more mature children. Flash photography is explicitly not allowed. The art on display is unique, one of a kind, on loan and expensive, if you have no sense of etiquette you'll definitely not be welcomed here. That being said, i took a picture properly and a small girl saw, told her mother to take one of her with the painting, tapped on the painting and they both giggled. Big no no!!

I was shocked at the amount of history there. Was expecting more modern art museum, which they have, but the world history here is incredible. If you like art, or better yet world history and art from every corner of the ancient world, they have it. Spent a little over 3 hours, needed 5. Fantastic experience.

It was my first time coming, and I loved the place. There's a lot of variety, so you're not just walking through looking at the same thing over and over. The staff are really courteous and are more than willing to help you with any recommendations or questions. Granted, you have to get here early if you want a tour guide, but either way it's a pleasant experience, and a great way to spend the day.

SAMA: I was impressed with the collections. I would say the highlight was the roman sculpture exhibit. There are two massive statues of Marcus Aurelius and Trajan which must be two of the very few in the world anywhere including Rome. Its a good 3 hour visit.

It was a terrible experience. Some attendants made me and my husband very uncomfortable. I had my baby girl sippy cup that was visible from my crossbody bag so 2 female attendants in 2 different floors approached me in a rude way to tell me I should dispose it because it is not allowed to carry drinks even though the lady from whom we bought our $40 tickets did not tell me I should hide my baby sippy cup. It was our first time in there and will be the last. Most of the attendants look at the visitors in a weird way and often follow you every where. I am coming from a very rich old civilization and what they have in the museum is not even 1% of what I have seen in my life.

Pretty pricy (with extra fee to see special exhibit) with no discounts if you arrive late in the day, so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time as this should take a few hours to do right. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful and the place was great. Elevator was a little iffy but I should have taken the stairs anyways.

The SAMA is a great place to spend an afternoon. The museum is housed in the old Lone Star Brewery, a historic building on the National Register of Historic Places constructed in 1895 with a fortress-like design: the current building is a mix of old and new, with its handsome brick facade, arched windows, and battlements complemented by a steel and glass skybridge going across the east and west towers. The many windows inside offer good views of San Antonio and the River Walk.

Inside, the museum has a substantial collection of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art, with some Egyptian pieces dating back over four thousand years. Other floors house Asian, American, and Latin American art in smaller collections. Huge glass elevators with exposed machinery take you between floors, and are really quite cool to just watch.

I'd highly recommend the museum if you're in the River Walk area and are interested in seeing ancient exhibits and historic architecture!

I've gone here a couple times and each time I have had an incredible experience. I love that some of the exhibits rotate through so I get to see new things when I visit. There are a few times when you can get in for free, one of them being Tuesdays from 4-9, so I highly recommend going then! The guards and staff are all super friendly and will answer any questions you have, as well as give you info on the exhibits and art pieces. Cannot recommend enough!

It was decent and we were admiring the art, but some museum attendant there warned us about not standing too close to some exhibits because a loud alarm would go off. Then the same attendant that was very very awkward kept following us looking at us from like 4-5 feet away and made me and my girlfriend feel very uncomfortable when trying to enjoy the art. I don't know if anyone else has felt the same but it was this curly haired like 5'5" woman she was extremely weird.

Good with company, also the skybridge is warm, this is your warning. Their are numerous exhibits from different cultures and different time periods. Great to visit every once and while. Decent inspiration for artists of different types.

The Classical Antiquity section is inspiring. Hard to believe that SA has so many cool artifacts. I didn't give it a starts because I was expecting the Museum to be bigger. Nonetheless, very worthy the visit. I'll be back!

Beautiful exhibits. There are so many interesting artifacts that you must take time for each one. We only got through half the museum. Next time I visit San Antonio we will explore the other half. My favorites so far were the Egyptian, Roman, and Japanese

This museum has a nicely balanced collection, and I never tire of visiting it. My favorite object in the collection is a gold coin from ancient Greece. It was made from the gold plates that once decorated the huge statue of Athena in the Parthenon. Only two or three of the coins are known to exist.
