We got free general admission tickets for the day when we visited, and were impressed by their collection of historical artifacts and artwork ranging from B.C. to the modern era. I particularly enjoyed their Roman exhibit. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I went a year ago, and comeback again last week. Management is valuable, attention, reception is good. Galleries are beautiful and the best, is that this museum is not reduced to the fancy European art, they include Asian, Aegyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek and Roman galleries, and also Latin American. It is crazy to have many aesthetic-cultural contributions from many times and spaces in one single place.

The collection here is not something I expected of San Antonio. The marble statues are like something you find in larger and more prestigious museums and you can walk right up to them displaying a high level of trust towards the community. You can find sarcaphogi and absolutely exquisite paintings. It's a medium size for a museum and usually not very full. It was a low price considering the quality of the art. There were great examples of Mexican and Catholic art.

Wonderful museum with a lot of ancient art. There is a scavenger hunt of sorts in the pamphlet and a lot of ancient statues. The statues in greek area are naked as per their custom but not all and alot. There is an elevator and a gift shop.

I took a group here for a guided tour. The docents were very accommodating to the needs of our population, knowledgeable and interactive. The museum has a good variety of different art styles and periods. It is handicap accessible.

"Seek an ye shall find..." is a partial Biblical appropriate for this museum venue. If you want a general museum with a variety of artifacts you will find it. However if you are looking for a Latino or Central American specialist something will spark your interest.

I have attended a number of programs at SAMA focusing on children and adults. They have all been creative and well planned. While their permanent collection is not as large as other art museums in big cities, what they do have is unique and diverse. Temporary collections have always been thoughtful and worth seeing. The new(ish) cafe is a great addition and makes SAMA a place where one could spend all day. Consider a membership as it is well worth the money.

I always like to visit the museums wherever I travel. This one is fantastic. It is 3 stories with two wings. Very well laid out and map is easy to interpret. The Hispanic culture exhibits span pre-Columbian, colonial and modern eras. The East Asia exhibits are extensive. Greek, Roman, Egyptian have great examples of art and relics fo the period. The glass elevator is fun to ride and watch from the outside. Museum shop is way too expensive. Admission is $14 for seniors and worth it. Right on a bus stop. Modern artists from Mexico, Latin and South America are well represented. Unfortunately they do not have a single Freida Kahlo painting. Strongly recommend this Museum if you go to San Antonio.

Homey and Impressive:

It's real charm though is how you feel at home here. You can sit and look at the art, chat with a friend, or go on a charming tour that will leave you friends with your guide. The place is warm and familiar, and its laid back atmosphere is why I've taken my toddler here repeatedly. He loves to run around and point at the brightly colored paintings (no, I don't let him touch anything). Many museums have lost the ability to welcome people, to help them explore and appreciate beautiful things, this is not one of those museums (and, if you have kids, they even have special kid day tours).

The museum manages an exquisite balance between the formal world of art and the beauty of nature. Huge windows flood the space in natural light and continually invite you to admire the lush grounds and old oak trees that frame a path to the river. There is a lovely restaurant overlooking the water with both indoor and outdoor dining. The food is fairly good but the atmosphere is lovely. After looking at art and lunching at the restaurant, head down to the beautifully landscaped river for a stroll to complete your study of art.

The museum is always a great experience for the whole family. I took the family on a Sunday morning because there's free general admission as well as on Thursdays. We paid to go see the Spain exhibit and it was amazing. Beautiful pieces and it wasn't too crowded when we got there. It did fill up quickly though. After an hour I sent my kids off to explore the museum and find something they liked there. What fun is an art museum if there isn't a bit of adventure involved? We spent at least 3-4 hours exploring the museum. There are some pieces being installed so there were certain floors and areas closed off. I can't wait to see the new exhibits.

Not only is the SAMA's collection worth your time and effort, but the hard working employees are more than willing to help if asked (even when it's cold af and you locked yourself out of your car).

Very interesting layout. There could be a bit more directional signage or a better floor map to help those who want a self guided tour. Otherwise, this collection is wonderful and varied. I look forward to visiting again!

What a great museum!! This is far bigger than I thought it was and well worth it! (It's free on certain days btw... ;) They had "rooms" for various cultures when we were there. Egyptian, Greek, Roman, American, Islands, China, Japan and more. Plenty of spots to sit and relax in between. Elevators available. In fact, they also have wheelchairs in case someone in your party isn't able to walk the whole way.

Well, first let me say, that the museum is a very nice place to visit. Love the art, and artifacts. But, the one complain I have, was that my family, and I, were being harassed by one of the employees ( a fat little white, bearded guy with glasses) never thought I d have to go through that, I really had to restrain myself, as my daughters, and my granddaughter were with me. That s my one complaint.

The Spain exhibition is fabulous! Then spend sometime checking out the rest of the museum. Oh don't forget to stop in to Tre Trattoria restaurant, in the Hops house. Yummy food, love the pizzas, and beautiful views of the SA river from the patio.
