A wonderful place to visit when a rainstorm washes through the City. Aesthetically calm and warm, the building interior is well maintained and not visually disruptive. The outside of the structure holds to its older factory-style look.

I was surprised and impressed by the breadth and depth of the collection. They have a huge amount of East Asian art, as well as a significant number of pieces from Latin America and the USA. They even have a display from Oceania. So glad I took time to enjoy the museum. Particularly enjoyed the temporary exhibit of War and Conflict. Wonderful photography. There is much to see here!

Incredible museum; come on Sundays between 10am-12pm, it's free. We spent 3+ hours inside, but could have probably doubled that if we'd read every label. Beautiful pieces of art from just about every (major) civilization in history, dating back thousands of years.

I've been going to the Art Museum for years, it's definitely something I love to do on a date or with friends. It's even nice just to go by myself. The installations change and new exhibits are always well thought out and out together

I loved this museum! It has a great selection and the location is easy to get to and park. This is a great stop if your in San Antonio. The map is a bit confusing but aside from that it is a wonderful.

Had a little bit of everything from all over the world, from art to historical artifacts. A lot off pieces come from private collections, but still worth a regular visit. Wonderful seeing, and easily accessible by the River Walk.

I've been here on many occasions and enjoy the different exhibitions and art each time. They have free admission on Tuesdays 4pm to 9 and Sunday's 10am to Noon. Check the website for different events such as live music by Johnny P and The Wiseguys. It's my belief that art/music has something for everyone. This is a great place for couples and families that want to introduce art to their children.

I wanted to love SAMA more, as it has some hugely interesting pieces of work on display, and I like the fact that the curatorial attention here is not only on those "high arts" usually seen in art museums, but also on everyday objects used by the people. However, there are notable issues that really get in the way of a more fulfilling visiting experience in this place.

To me, one issue that stands out is that the whole exhibition space is repurposed from its original use (brewery). As a result, flow between galleries is not as smooth as it should be. For example, if you start from the first floor, you'll have to cross the gift shop to enter the American gallery. This is nothing serious, but it just feels weird. Also, if you are like me who prefer to walk up and down stairs whenever possible, then you simply cannot get to the Oceanic gallery while in the west side of the Museum. In short, navigation is not fun in SAMA.

Another issue stems from the fact that some galleries (which include a good proportion of Asian, American and European galleries) have a serious lack of introductory and topical labels. The Yogini sculpture, which is marked as a museum highlight on the map, doesn't even have an individual label. To be fair, though, when labels do exist, they are usually quite informative (with a few exceptions - e.g. one label about the Malanggan art in New Ireland comes with a map of the Sepik River area, which is confusing).

Having written all these negative feedback, I have to say that I still enjoyed my visit to SAMA. With the aforementioned issues, I just find it a bit difficult to justify the $20 admission fee (for adults). Otherwise, this museum is well-equipped with benches and restrooms, doesn't seem crowded (thanks to its spread-out floor plan?), and is only steps away from San Antonio's meticulously landscaped Riverwalk. I encourage you to come during its free hours to explore a diverse collection and to share your own reflections.

I always like to visit the museums wherever I travel. This one is fantastic. It is 3 stories with two wings. Very well laid out and map is easy to interpret. The Hispanic culture exhibits span pre-Columbian, colonial and modern eras. The East Asia exhibits are extensive. Greek, Roman, Egyptian have great examples of art and relics fo the period. The glass elevator is fun to ride and watch from the outside. Museum shop is way too expensive. Admission is $14 for seniors and worth it. Right on a bus stop. Modern artists from Mexico, Latin and South America are well represented. Unfortunately they do not have a single Freida Kahlo painting. Strongly recommend this Museum if you go to San Antonio.

Excellent exhibits with important pieces. Each wing is about a day's trip so plan on spending at least two days exploring he entire museum. Beautiful placement of sculptures and the lighting is often exquisite, highlighting pieces in a beautiful way. The collections are intuitive and flowing, each exhibit leading into the next with smooth and thoughtful transitions. The building itself is a study in architectural art and the workings of glass and building materials is masterful.
