Absolutely shocking service. Waited 30 minutes for a drink and didn t even get any water whilst waiting. After chasing our drinks twice and not even getting an apology we decided to walk out. Would not recommend.
Over looking and beautiful view and good atmosphere to the elder!
Pleasent, assertive staff. Immaculately clean. Impressive facilities and prime location in Salcombe.
Stunning hotel in a beautiful location with the most wonderful staff. Cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Spent last week there although only meant to be there for three days. The snow changed our plans!!! Guests and staff all snowed in together. It could have been disastrous but with smiling staff who couldn't do enough for us and wonderful food it was a joy.
We stayed for one night in a estuary view and balcony room which was very relaxing and peaceful. Dinner in the restaurant was pleasant and the oysters were very tasty!
Really enjoyed hotel and facilities. Not cheap but very relaxing
Nice settng but tables not cleaned servise and food not great for price in all little disapointing
food in the restaurant was amazing. Our waiter Matty was great! Very nice setting. Couldn't fault anything!
We had a lovely stay at the Hotel. Great location, spotlessly clean, lovely room where our sea glimpse was much better than we anticipated with a small balcony. Lovely attention to detail in the rooms. The only negative which is why I haven't given 5 stars is the service in the restaurant. Very slow service, not what you expect for this standard of hotel. Waiting 30 minutes for eggs. Had to chase to be served drinks when we arrived. Breakfast choice could be improved as well. If you could improve in this
area that would then get 5 stars from me.
Visited this morning for a cup of morning coffee. We were welcomed with friendly service. We thought that the hotel was lovely with spectacular views and plan a stay early next year.
Breath take ing views.i went in April good food the down side was that they didn t have our Spa treatment as requested.
My wife booked a spa morning with an aromatherapy massage and it was all pretty perfect. Lovely staff and amenities. Included in the package was a two course lunch which was enjoyed outside on The Jetty in the Salcombe sunshine, with my wife and daughter. Again service was great and the food wonderful.
Nice location and views. Food OK. Good choice of drinks.
Lovely afternoon tea had this afternoon. The service was impeccable.
Great hideaway, fantastic views, and will be comming back again
5 stars It would be a sin not to go here if in or near Salcombe! Afternoon tea and lunch menu is super tasty and the attention to detail is brilliant! Superb views and excellent service! George the manager knew it was my birthday and went above and beyond to make sure I had a special b day he is a credit to the Salcombe Harbour Hotel and i will be sure to come back every time I am in Salcombe! Ps club sandwich was the best my partner had! Parking was difficult but the receptionist offered to move the car as and when to accommodate us! Top hotel service food and views! Thank you once again for making my day so special
Whatever you do don't book rooms 101 to 110. Zero air-conditioning leaving the rooms a sweatbox. Overpriced if not getting a wink of sleep because of the heat and no way to cool off.
Good food great views furiously expensive, but it was Xmas day
Hotel is obviously fantastic but the restaurant a bit of a let down. Told staff we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, nevertheless we were put on a table away from the best views and with empty tables either side whilst the rest of the restaurant was full. Selection of greens turned out to be a bowl of baby corn and charcuterie board turned out to be effectively a selection of bread.
Salcombe is a little seaside resort and is very pretty lots of small beaches to explore. Parking may be a problem it does have car parks but they fill up very fast you need to be early to find a place to park Salcombe has some nice little shops and pubs but it's very expensive we decided to have a drink and to pints of lager was 12 pounds
Invited to a private 5 course tasting dinner and decided to stay overnight. The chef produced a magnificent fare of local produce cooked to perfection. Our host paired wines which complimented every course. A truly memorable experience. However, I have to mention the wonderful suite I stayed in, pure luxury in every way. Really didn't want to check out but will certainly return again. My compliments to the general manager who really knows how to run a wonderful 5 star hotel overlooking Salcombe estuary.
Such a shame a lovely hotel but poorly managed, the service is terrible, that many residents moaning and walking out, probably a national group needs an independent approach, the owners or share holders need to watch out chances are it could become holiday apartments if they don't raise their game
Went in for a Spa treatment with my wife, great experience, really relaxing & the staff were really friendly yet professional. Thank you very much will be back
beautiful views, well located, lovely restaurant and the views from the restaurant are stunning.
Attended as a wedding guest and would not recommend to anyone. The staff are so rude and not the least bit helpful!
As always, superb service, charming staff, wonderful food, heavenly views, all combined to create a fabulous experience. This is how it should be done and they get it right every time.
Lovely views amazing coctails. Expensive for me but worth it!
What a fabulous hotel! Greeted by friendly staff who offered to valet park my car in the slightly awkward car park. Room with a sea view was gorgeous. Comfortable, clean with complimentary gin, sherry, water, tea and a coffee machine! Fridge was well stocked as was the bathroom. I ordered room service and the food was delicious. Lovely menu. I will definitely be staying again.
What a beautiful place to stay for any occasion . Just brilliant !
The hotel and the views were amazing, however the service in the restaurant/bar and spa was shocking.
We stayed in the hotel room with balcony and views of the estuary which we couldn't fault apart from not having any drinking water in our rooms. Stayed 26th -29th September 2020.
The service in the restaurant/bar was the worst I've experienced. Firstly the night we arrived we just wanted a glass of wine in the bar and was told at 7:30pm they had no more wine glasses and could only serve in what I could describe as 1/2 pint beer glasses.
We also booked dinner one evening and after being sat down and waiting for 30 minutes I had to get someones attention to take our drinks order which you just wouldn't expect. This was the case for each breakfast and the staff apologised every day which got very tiresome. You could tell from the other guests that they were experiencing the same.
One afternoon we wanted to use the spa, calling from the room there was no answer so went down only to find the receptionist on her own mobile phone. She tells us there has been an incident and the spa was closed until further notice, not very friendly at all.
To summarise it feels like the hotel relies to much on the views and not the service which is a real shame.
Beautiful place! Great, friendly and cosy atmosphere. Well presented delicious food!
We had a fantastic meal at the Jetty Restaurant last weekend. Staff were lovely especially The lovely Lady called Alexandra who looked after us. She was so bubbly and friendly which made our experience great. Will definitely return when in Salcombe next year
Good service, the views on the terrace are second to none. A lovely place to have a drink.
Champagne Afternoon Tea - Sunday 8th July 2018
I'm not sure whether this hotel does in-house training for fine dining or any dining, especially when it comes to correctly presenting afternoon tea.
Firstly, my partner, my daughter and l had to wait 25 minutes for our pot of tea, 30 minutes for our glass of what they called champagne and 40 minutes for the scones, sandwiches and cakes to arrive. The place was not busy at 3:30pm on a Sunday afternoon.
When finally presented with the tea l found no accoutrements for the cream, jam and sugar. I cannot abide the fact that l would have to put my knife into the cream and then the jam and for the others to do the same, either before or after. How was l to pick up a cube of sugar when there was no tongs. I drink my tea weak black, (the only as far as the Chinese and Sri Lankans are concerned) unfortunately, we were not supplied with hot water.
I realize in this day and age basic etiquette appears not to be de rigueur but surely spoons and tongs should be available, especially at a 4 star hotel that charge more than enough.
The champagne should also be poured in front of you, purely again as etiquette and to let the guest know it IS actually champagne and not Prosecco, some of us do know the difference !
Isopod very much like to know whether the staff have in-house training and whether it extends to what is needed for Afternoon Tea, especially as most of the staff appear to be foreign so therefore, do not knows the ways of English etiquette.
I love partaking of afternoon tea and have had it in hotels all over the world from the Savoy in London to Blue Waters in Tasmania - service, etiquette, presentation and taste is essential and makes for a wonderful experience.
The Salcombe Harbour Hotel Champagne Afternoon Tea experience was totally Second Class and seriously needs to buck up with their service and presentation. One cannot expect guests to be treated in such a manner. My partner; who was given the voucher as a present, was offered a free drink and coffee as an apology, which he accepted, but the whole experience was totally unnecessary if the hotel management made sure the Staff were Correctly Trained ! I wonder what your silver service dining etiquette is, do you bother with which side to serve, ( the guest's left ).
I spent the first night of my honeymoon at this hotel, it was then named the Marina, as did my parents-in-law. The hotel has been completely refurbished to a good standard, it's just a shame that the service or the staff are not trained accordingly.

We got married here just over a week ago. We kept to a small do with just our nearest and dearest and wanted an intimate do in a beautiful setting. It couldn't have been more perfect. We had the most fantastic day with impeccable service and amazing food. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Milly was a great help leading up to the day and made sure everything ran smoothly. George was a wonderful front of house, with nothing being too much trouble. Everyone made us and our guests feel so welcome.
Our stay in the hotel that night was wonderful and luxurious with a great breakfast looking out over the estuary the next day.
We returned later in the week for another evening meal in the restaurant which just added to our fantastic experience.
Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable.
The view from our room, the staff, all facilities were good. Only downside was the food. I longed for something simple like a crab salad, coronation chicken etc. Everything rather artificial. Breakfasts were good!
Lovely room. Breathtaking views. Food excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent service.
Nice place to sit and watch the people on the boats
Really nice stay. Friendly and attentive staff, excellent room with an amazing estuary view. On site parking with valet and eclectic charging. At the moment you need to book for most things but that s fine - just need to be organised !
Absolutely stunning hotel with such friendly staff.
Made the stay a special night to remember just wish we had more time to spend down there.
We will definitely be going back
We had a great room with estuary view. The room was well appointed- with complimentary sherry & gin plus a decent mini bar. The shower in the bathroom was very good too. The staff couldn't be more helpful. When we left, they collected the car and helped load the luggage, then used the turntable to turn the car back around.
The food in the restaurant was superb. Try the panacotta!
Did a mini tour of Harbour hotels this week. Padstow, Fowey, Salcombe and Sidmouth. We selected a Cosy double at Salcombe. While not expecting a grand room I do take exception to the 4ft wide small double bed, not as depicted in their photos. We were only there 1 night so be warned on bed size. The rest of the hotel was lovely with great views of the estuary, indoor pool and a lovely bar and restaurant. We only had breakfast which is to the usual high standard across the chain.
Beautiful and amazing views, staff are really polite..didn t have time for the treatment we wanted but did offer us 10% off and complimentary upgrade on our next visit.
Great location. They couldnt do enough for my wife and i while we stayed with them over 3 nights. Lovely food, nice rooms some with amazing views across the bay. If you can get a room with a bay view room they are worth the extra.
Service in the Restaurant can be hit & miss at times but overall really good. The Spa Room is proberly the nicest pool and steam rooms we have used.Overall a lovely hotel.
Wow what beautiful setting. Beautiful decor and in the sun there is no better place to sit.
Nice food, very poor service. Kept waiting to be shown to our booked table. Long wait to rate order. Had to chase to get the drinks as we were halfway through our starters before they arrived. No bread even though we asked. Ordered steak- not asked how I would like it cooked.... I have never had this happen before. Even had a struggle to get a bill which fortunately was missing the charge for our drinks and they had failed to add their suggested service charge which however I would have refused to pay. The food was good. Very tasty and well presented but they have got to sort out the service.
Amazing location
Amazing service, can't fault it
Had a fantastic stay here over the summer. The hotel is in a great location just on the edge of Salcombe, a few minutes walk takes you through the centre of town. The hotel has its own car park and we parked up a few hours before check in (3pm) and were able to leave out keys with reception. Check in was easy shown to our room and given a quick overview of the facilities and what was available, a really nice touch. Our room was lovely with a great view of the estuary and out to the English Channel. There was complementary sherry and gin (although mixers, which were in the mini fridge, had a charge) plus still and fizzy water. The bathroom was a good size with nice, fluffy towels, a heated towel rail and shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (from The White Stuff). The hotel has a good spa with pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna plus you can book various treatments. The restaurant and bar have great views over the estuary and plenty of choice for food and drink. Overall, a great hotel which was comfy and in a great location.
Good food
Staff very helpful
Best location, excellent service although overdue a refit as a bit tired in areas.
The visit to this hotel was a great experience. Although a bit pricey the quality of the rooms, food & general decor made it worth it. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The pool was smaller than the creative photography on the website would suggest. That said the spa area was clean and well laid out. Salcombe Bay is a really nice place to visit even in cold January.
Great area, great staff, great facilities but scrambled egg like frog spawn.
We spent a day using the spa and the hotel. The spa is a wonderfully relaxing space and well equipped in beautiful surroundings. We had a lovely afternoon tea, with prosecco, in the restaurant overlooking the river. The cakes(all of which were made in house) and the sandwiches were delightful. A staff member also showed us a few of the bedrooms which, I must say, were beautiful and on my next visit to Salcombe I wouldn t hesitate to book A stay at this hotel.
Booked for a special birthday, booked a room with a sea view, had the most fab time, bit busy at checking out time but staff staff are friendly and offer conceige service.
Absolutely stunning hotel, perfect location. We had the most stunning view from our room. Really enjoyed the complimentary gin and the binoculars in the room are a nice touch. Spa was fantastic. We had the relaxing body pamper treatment which was lush. Facilities very very nice. Breakfast was lovely too. Will definetly be returning. Thank you so much shh.
The room was superb with a view to die for. Comfortable pure luxury! The whole package is just wonderful with special touches that make it special. We can t wait to book up again . Thanks to all the staff for making our stay a real treat .
Happy Xmas to you all
Firstly I would say the hotel is lovely, the view is great and we had one of the best steak suppers we have ever had. Thank you.
Our disappointment was the noise and the disruption which came with the room. This spoilt what was meant to be a long weekend, quiet treat away from the big smoke. Our room backed on to turntable in front of the main reception. When we raised the matter with the staff there's was no apology but more over they refused to accept that there was a problem and called us a liar.
One staff member claimed to have been in reception all morning and that hadn't been any cars, which simply isn't true. They continued by saying that the rooms are all 'acoustically treated'. It's not my job to be snagging their works but there is clearly a centimetre of day light at the top of the door. An open air path doesn't offer any sound attenuation. (We'll add a photo in due course).
On a mother note we also noticed the gin in the room was topped up with London Gin and not what we thought was Salcombe Gin.
I came to have lunch today having visited several times before, but today the staff were surley, the food not good, there was grit in my mushroom starter, the fish pie was so hot i think it was microwaved. As we were not resident we were offered no bread. This is such a shame as i was looking forward to the lunch.
Probably won't return.
Lovely relaxed hotel
Good food.
Good rooms. Restaurant meh but they do have a turntable for getting your car out.
Incredible hotel, fantastic service. The bar service could be far better considering the cost of a meal
You arrive at the Salcombe Harbour hotel to be greeted by a suitably nautical reception area and by chirpy staff. Hats off to the interior designer, the entire feel of the hotel is excellent. Our room looked over the estuary, was spacious and simply excellent, you can t argue with that view - drinking a beer on the balcony as the sun goes down in relaxing silence...perfect. The only quibble, and it s minor, was that the breakfast was alright but not notable or exceptional. Otherwise a faultless experience.
A lovely relaxing hotel. Most of the staff want to please you and make your visit special
