From out of town and was directed to come here. What a great find
Actually the food was pretty good. I had the fish sandwich and the wife the fish tacos. Fish properly cooked and a decent portion. A little pricey but that's what happens when you get to sit on the waters edge. Would have given 4 stars if not for the slow service. Not overly busy but they seemed pretty disorganized which resulted in a less than ideal experience. Great location.
Great service....Enjoyed their chowder and fish and chips :)
A very recommendable address in the heart of the hyper tourist area of Boston: the port.
Here no outdoor terrace but a view of an arm of the port for (almost) everyone.
Contrary to some reviews, I found the high prices ($ 7 a beer, $ 10 a glass of wine) but in line with what is practiced here, but especially in line with what is served: generous, fresh and tasty.
My lobster roll (see photo - $ 25) is the example.
Recommended if you adhere to the comments above.
As often in the US (tip strategy) the service is fast and attentive.
PS: If this opinion seemed useful, a little like would be nice, for my ego but just to know if my opinion is used for something ... or not. Thanks in advance !
Wonderful service, Great food and a good atmosphere! Beautiful scenic view and wonderful fish and chips !! This was one of my favorite places to eat at while visiting Boston!!
Probably the best clam chowder in New England. Highly recommend. Much better than any touristy spot, plus the water views are great!
Great food.
Great service.
Relaxed atmosphere.
Perfect for meal or snack
We always enjoy meal at the sail loft. Great place to eat. Updated inside more bathroom and carpet.
Visited on a Sunday night, just looking for some good food. Mission accomplished. I had the Cajun Chicken Tenders, which were delicious, and a HUGE portion of it. My wife had a Salmon Ceasar Salad, also large portions, and excellent taste.
Price was very reasonable (around $12 for my plate, a little more for the salmon) and food was excellent.
View wasn't much, large windows just faced a small docking pier with no boats. Noise was excessive, since many of the tables are right next to the bar, and apparently the kids were already drunk at 7:00 on a Sunday night.
Great service, quick and "wicked" friendly. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting.
Clam chowder was thick and tasteful, and fish & chips were crispy.
My son and daughter-in-law picked me up at the airport and we went straight to the restaurant and I was very happy with the service and food! I highly recommend it to anyone.
Loved it here! Right on the water with big windows. Good service and delicious food. Especially loved the clam chowder!! And the have Pepsi! Definitely worth a visit!!
Food is amazing and the staff is professional and kind. This lobster Mac and cheese is a must!
The only down side to this restaurant is that the bar gets crowded and trying to walk to the bathroom is like going through a mall on Black Friday. The bathrooms are also extremely cramped too.
Came here with my family after being recommended by locals, I'm not too keen on seafood so I just got chicken, which was very good! Someone else ordered the clam chowder - "perfect consistency, absolutely delicious, and meets expectations." Service here is friendly and there's a great view of the outside!
This is my new favorite place in Boston to eat and drink.
Great local spot with underrated food, great staff as well!!
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Great place to stop for a classic New England Clam Chowder.
Fast friendly service. Amazing clam chowder. Calamari was also well prepared with a light batter.
Worth a visit if you re visiting Boston.
Great service and the attitude of staff was positive. The food is done correctly and tasty. I had the Reuben which was delicious. My wife had the fish & Chips. The fish was excellent, Light and Flaky. But the Chowder is to die for. If in Boston again I am going here.
I'm travler from Minnesota, Boston people such awesome ! Got good drinks ! Will come back for sure!
Small local place. Clam chowder was amazing. Everything else was sub par. Service could have been better.
A few friends and I came here for a Bridal shower party. Our reservation was for 11am, this past Saturday. As if we were still waiting for folks to come in, we didn't end up ordering until closer to 12pm. The staff seem to be ok with this - it wasn't hugely busy at this time of the day.
At first our server seemed moody and just not very happy. She went about business and walked pass by a few times not making eye contact and refilling water coffee/tea as needed or when asked. She just had that vibe or not wanting to be there. Later on during our time there she did warm up and actually made conversation with us and sparked.
Overall, i like this place. It's located about a 5 min walk from the Blue Line Aquarium stop, right on the Waterfront. If you sit by the windows on the side you can easily gaze outside and see boats docked. It's a very calming feeling. I had this view the very first time i was here a few years back.
Today, we sat by the front, before you reach the bar. Noise level was ok. We sat in somewhat of a horse shoe so making conversation was easy.
The establishment was clean. It's narrow so there isn't a great deal of extra room but it's still spacious enough to be comfortable. The bathroom was clean, though very small stalls and even the doorway isn't standard size. Big folks beware, as one of my friends would say, because you would always wonder if you might be stuck somehow... (half jokingly).
The food:
Orange Juice was a bit acidic. At first I thought it was just me but another friend confirmed the same.
We all ordered from the brunch menu which came with a side of veggies, roasted red skinned potatoes. I ordered the Steak and egg - medium rare. Friend to my right ordered the Salmon. To her right ordered the Lobster omelette. The guest of honor ordered the poached egg minus the Canadian bacon. Next to her, french toast. And our last guest also ordered the steak and eggs - rare.
Everything on that plate was good, except for the Steak. It was a good size although perhaps because of its thickness, or lack thereof, (about 1/3 inch) it cooked pretty fast but my steak was more than medium - it was medium well. There was no pink left. My friend who ordered the rare got the same steak as mine.
I had a taste of the lobster omelette and it was quite good!! I didn't get to taste anything but everyone else said their food was really good. Needless to say, we were stuffed.
Aside from the above, the brunch also came with a choice or a mimosa, or a Bloody Mary. Since i still had orange juice, along with the friend next to me, she asked if she could just get Prosecco instead, to which the server said no problem so i opted for the same. I expected about half a glass but instead, she brought over an entire little jug enough for an entire glass so we could make our own. Nice! Total bonus points right here! i had two mimosas!
Lastly, service. The mood definitely changed. Initially it was just a routine walk around and grumpy looking face. But eventually, service got better and better. We were there for nearly 5 hours and no one rushed us to pay the bill or leave. Even after we paid we sat around for awhile and just talked. This to me and my friends were extremely nice considering most places would have been giving you looks and ushering you to go. For this reason only I gave it an extra star and a half. I wished there was a half star system but alas, i can't give it a five.
I do want to come back and try other brunch menu items though so hopefully i get to update this review with an even better one! :D
Amazing neighborhood spot for great drinks and amazing food. Best chowder available anywhere!!
Highly recommend the clam chowder! Atmosphere was perfect.
The food was great and the service was great too....
Great place for Lobster. We never miss Sail Loft whenever we are in Boston!
Reasonable price food, Clam chowder was thick, hot, dill, potato, rich. I personally like mine with more clams but we were the 1st ones there so might get better. Good portions
Great bar with a view of the Harbor. Love their beer and when you walk in and smell the fried seafood, it's a great atmosphere to enjoy!
We ordered the chowder, lobster roll and fish sandwich. Our portions were really large and everything was great. The cup of chowder was huge, thick and tasty and my personal favorite! The staff were so friendly. We loved the tradition they had of Oreos on the bar, but due to Covid they changed it and now sweetly offer to go packs. I loved the view and ambiance. We can't wait to go back!
Fantastic location and views. Food can be mixed. I've had great fresh fish but sometimes simply mediocre. Last visit the food simply wasn't piping hot. S bit of a disappointment.
I love this place! It is small but the food and staff are excellent! Some of the best chowder I have ever had, too!
The clam chowder was pretty good but my fried clams and scallops were about a 6 out of 10. Great location and great views. The picture is after I ate some of the clams and scallops so it was a good amount of food.
This place was crazy busy for a Thurs night at 9 pm, lol. The service could use a little refresher, because our waiter forgot our tarter sauce for the fish that we ordered although we asked him 3 times... The space is pretty cramped and the bathroom was horrendously small, but overall we had a good experience. The fish is the perfect combination of crispy, fresh, and tender. The chowder was very good as well!
They have excellent service but I will describe my experience in two words DELICIOUS and AMAZING
We ordered the Cajun shrimp as an app: amazing! The meals consisted of fish and chips and lobster rolls. Both food items were super delicious! The fish and chips was such a large portion it was mind blowing. The lobster roll was STUFFED. No skimping on portioning. The staff were very nice and friendly. I highly recommend!!
Best Clam Chowder in Boston. Seriously! I've had my share of chowda in Boston but this is by far my favorite spot now.
Felt like a classic seafood house. Nothing fancy but good. The chowder was my favorite. The Lobster was well steamed and easy to crack open. The service was good, they even let us switch tables half way through.
This restaurant is a special place! I was attracted by the look of the restaurant but at the end the food itself was the most enjoyable experience.
Staff was very friendly, was visiting Boston for the first time with my friends, so obviously we needed to try some local foods! I told the hostess that I wanted to have the outdoor seats by the water, and we had to wait about 35mins......it was worth it!
It s on Monday that we went, so I am guessing it would be quite impossible to get those tables on the weekends! Since there are only 2 tables out there and a total capacity of about 6 people.
We had the cocktail shrimp, the single lobster and the clam chowder. Service was really fast, I am especially in love with their clam chowder, so rich and flavorful!
The seafoods are all very fresh! I enjoyed every single moment while I was in there!
Also, I have to say that they have done an excellent job on the protection practices so everyone can feel safe dinning in! Kudos!
The Clam Chowder was the best I ever had. The Fish and Chips was delicious. Place was packed and the service was still great. Must do if you are in Boston
We were planning a vacation to Boston, & my neighbors said, "Oh, you've gotta go to Sail Loft while you're there!" So we did... twice! I have a bit of a lobster roll addiction now, & I've gotta say that Sail Loft had the best one. If I can figure out a way to get one shipped down here to Florida, it gonna get UGLY. Definitely recommend!
The mashed potatoes (which you can get as a side to some entrees) are worth noting! They were heavy and creamy and studded with potato skin and so freakin' good. The fried calamari was also fun! Their breading is a little lighter than usual fried things so it wasn't too heavy of a starter.
So happy we tried the Boston Sail Loft. The staff was amazing very friendly and the food was amazing. The clam chowder was out of this world. My friend and I shared the lobster roll and were stuffed between that and a cup of chowder. Will for sure be back when I visit Boston again.
Decided to give this place to try as we looked at the menu online. They have dividers in between the times for the covid protection. Food was excellent and so was the service.
First time there. The chowder was tasty, my 1/2 sandwich was big and her spinach salad was very good. Nice water view too.
Great service.
We only went for drinks but everyone was very friendly
The food was great. Clam chowder highly recommend. A bit tight for seating but we'll worth it. Definitely would go back.
Surprisingly excellent seafood in spite of a loud bar environment. Any chef that can cook scallops and calamari properly is a pleasure to encounter. The service was also pleasant and quick.
Best clam chowder I've ever tasted, delicious fresh seafood and spectacular view. I loved this place!
Great service, Large portions, outstanding clam chowder, cool location, reasonably priced for waterfront seafood in downtown Boston, overall = total win
Great food at great prices. We had a rather large party of 9 and they were very accommodating. The clam chowder was amazing, thick and creamy, ideally to be shared with someone, especially if you want to eat other things! The lobster roll was really good as well. Very relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Fun atmosphere. I thought the chowder was like floury or something. Not all it's cracked up to be.
Okay this little area I kept calling little Italy but I think the map has a noted as the north end. I'm going to reference it as a little Italy because that's what it reminded me of when I was in San Francisco. So little Italy was awesome. It was my go-to place fur food for coffee for shopping for dessert for fun. People watching. It's a hoot. Parking again is stupid, no other word, just stupid and expensive. My husband has a heart condition so we had to drive versus walk or ride a bike which is obviously the preferred mode of transportation in this area. But little Italy and Hanover Street is a must do. If you've never been to Boston before, go to the north end/Little Italy and be prepared to walk and eat. There's so many places I would recommend, but then I would have to admit that I've been to all of those places in a two-day period and I'm not willing to do that. Let's just say in the three days I was in Boston I gained more weight than I've gained on a 7-day cruise. Thanks little Italy
I'm from the west coast. I was visiting Boston on business. The only thing I had was the clam chowder, and it was hands down the best clam chowder I've ever had. The service was attentive and kind. When I'm in the area again, I'll definitely visit this place again.
Every time I return to Boston I try to make a stop by the Boston Sail Loft. Their delicious and thick New England Clam chowder is a must-order as you sit overlooking the bay. It's by no means fancy, but clean and homey.
Extremely friendly staff who fussed over our baby, along with delicious food! Will recommend to all of our friends.
Highly recommend. Saturday evening wait was long but you can understand why. Once seated, friendly staff had drinks and very good food in front of us incredibly quickly. Will come back on future visits to Boston.
Delicious food, super friendly staff, fresh seafood. Strongly recommended.
The Boston Sail Loft is the perfect place to have traditional New England seafood without feeling like you're paying NYC prices. The clam chowder is incredible, and I would strongly recommend it as a standalone meal. The true mark of a top notch chowder is the spoon test, and how the soup "runs" when you turn the spoon sideways. Needless to say, this chowder certainly passed the test with flying colors, and the consistency, flavor, and even the look and smell were all perfection. It even had that tiny bit of grit that let you know the clams were fresh out of the shell.
The atmosphere inside the Sail Loft makes you feel like you're right on the water, mainly because you are. The staff is friendly and attentive, and this really feels more like a Cape Cod hangout than a Boston one. I can't wait to go back to try their award winning fish and chips. It's just an excuse to have another cup of this incredible clam chowder.
