A very different experience. More like a desert park with little shade along the trails. Saguaros are unique, tall and really big.

Hey it's the desert and I'm from illinois;all good :-)
What a drive ! An amazing place to lose yourself in scenery and the quietness to reset yourself. I look forward to going at least once month.
So many different kinds of cactus! Both the East and west sides (on either side of Tuscon) are beautiful. The East side has more pear cactus and shrubs. The west side is my favorite with so many saguaro. Both have nice visitor centers. The outside of the west one is stunning.
What a great facility. You could spend days here. Numerous hiking trails and picnic areas to explore. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Great and beautiful park. BE AWARE! Only ONE trail is dog friendly- so be prepared. It s a short 1.4 mile there and back (total distance) but despite that we had a great drive on the loop on the Wast side of the park.
A great place to go to get outdoors and enjoy the wildlife. Watch your step and bring plenty of water in the summer months.
Awesome park, but...
Wish we could take our dog on the trails
It was so beautiful the people were very friendly was a great experience thank you Joanna Diaz
Love Saguaro National Park. What a landscape! If you like the desert you will love this place. Plenty of hiking and back country areas yet it has easy access to Tucson.
I loved this place! Make sure to pay attention to the maps and the weather.
An unique experience! The Saguaro plants look ethereal!
Beautiful, breathtaking views, awesome hiking, decent camping areas, rifle and archery ranges.
The scenic drive is great. Definitely visit if you are in Tuscon.
I love the national parks and we had never visited this one before, I thought the west side had many more large 25'+ saguaros than the east side
Great national park, we were thrilled to have seen this facility, comprehensive information in the visitor center, you should take a lot of time, it is worth the many plants to experience!
I didn't know the desert could be so beautiful. Love it
I'm not much of a people oriented person and avoid chatting as much as possible anywhere I go, but the rangers here at both east and west parks were honestly the best part of our visit. They love what they do and they live the park and its infectious, should you spend even a brief moment talking with them.
Our third visit in the past month. Wonderful experience and actually saw both a roadrunner and coyote within a half mile. Probably looking for each other.
We chose the Wasson Peak to hike and it took us 2 hours to get there from the bottom. Meet a fox and it was fun! At least bring 3 bottles of water.
The Desert has many stories to tell for those who choose to hear it. Saguaro National Park does a fantastic job preserving the natural beauty of the desert. I hope the land is always protected.
Visited twice. Generally, it is hot from May to October. Best time to visit is in the spring when everything is in bloom...around March.
Stop at the visitor center for additional park information. If you're bringing little kids ask the Park Rangers for the Jr. Ranger Program workbook and they can earn a Jr. Ranger badge and be sworn in. Fun activity for the kids. Bring food and water, especially during the hotter times of the year.
Very well designed route of beautiful scenes. You can view everything just crusing the loops in your vehicle, but you can also stop at some wonderful vistas. Would be a great bike ride.
Everyone who works as a ranger in this park take such pride in the trails! There's always people around making sure the trails are nice and well-cared for and all paths are clear!
Since I live next to it, I've been to the West side of Saguaro Natl. Park. Hiked up Stafford peak. Nice but very rugged (rocky) and steep. Great views of the Valley from the top (well almost the top.
It's hot but interesting, you can walk it or drive.
Cool hike, caves to explore, huge cacti everywhere, getting to the top is all the fun and great views!
Everyone please come out for Saturday summer night. Mom,s we have new exhibit called packrat play house. It's for kids and it's air conditioning. The kids will love it..
Incredible! This place was a hidden gem. It is like being on another planet. It sits next door to "Old Tucson" where many western movies have been filmed. This park is like walking through the coolest western movie. There are thousands of "cactus" or whatever they call them. It was outstanding. Even though Tucson itself was blah.....this place puts Tucson on the map.
Watch the short video at the Visitor Center for a historical perspective on the area's beginnings. A wonderful variety of reference books, souvenirs and pleasant rangers to answer everyone's questions.
If you love saguaros, this is the place for you. Get a drone or walk around and venture into the beauty of the Arizona desert.
A nice park with a big variety of plants/Cacti. Alot of it was blooming. It was beautiful.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They even gave our dog a little dog bone at the engender to the scenic drive. The road is smooth and allows cyclists. The informational stops ate informative and relevant. The views are amazing.
Cacti
My second visit to Saguaro NP. Newly built visitor center. Anyone who travels in the area has already seen "all" conceivable varieties of the plant, perhaps even caught a cactus in bloom. This NP is certainly interesting and you can also see some stuffed animals. But actually it's just "more of the same". If you want to experience a great landscape, I recommend the Apache Trail.
I found the slide show with great photos and the politically totally correct slogans of a "Native Americans" rather stupid. It was nice when the curtain was drawn up behind the screen and you could look out through the windows into the NP.
The walk through the well-tended cactus garden at the visitor center was not very exciting. The short off-road route via Gravel through the park was also rather boring in terms of driving. THANK YOU.
Went on the cam-boh trail very Nice little hike great views of the city
Visited both, but I think East was better. There is 8 mile paved loop with many pull outs. Well worth visiting. I was there in April and I was able to see many flowering cacti; something I can't see frequently. Travel from West to East Park took about 45 minutes. Ticket purchased in one works for both parks and is good for a few days. Besides roads there are many paths for hiking, I also encountered couple of bikers on the paved roads.
There is an East section and a West. We did both on 2 separate days. If you only have 1 day do the east.
Very beautiful landscape, especially if you visit in a cloudy day, or morning or even late afternoon. Very educational and inspirational.
This is a beautiful desert area full of saguaro's, ocotillos, prickly pears, mesquite, creosote bush, cholla's, etc. This used to be a National Monument, but has been upgraded to a park. I actually liked the visitor center better when it was a monument and the focus was all on education about the cacti. Now there is a movie that focuses on a very unrealistic (eastern image) of the Tohono O'odham's view on the desert, spiritualism, etc. I did live and work with the Tohono O'odham ( then called Papago) for over a year. Other than the movie, and the lack of real education at the visitor center about the life of the saguaro, the place is excellent. Our family lived our in this region for 15 years, and I'll never tire of seeing the beauty of the Saguaro National Park.
Great vistas of the mountains and Saguaro National Park. There are several walking trails to explore with information placks discribing the various plants, trees, catus and animals living in the park. The visitor center has displays and a short movie about the park.
Have been waiting a long time to see this park, wonderful experience to see such a wide variety of cactus. Highly recommended!
While the saguaro cactus is the most prominent thing to see, you'll find there's much more than meets the eye. Wildlife is everywhere, even the occasional howling coyote, and there are more species of cactus than you can shake a rattlesnake at. The driving loop has some beautiful places to stop, look, and walk around. Hiking trails go all over and most are the typical mostly flat, easy desert sort of walking. Park staff we encountered were all super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
Amazing national park. Has parks east and west of Tucson. Great scenic drives and hiking.
Great outdoor adventure! Definitely the place if you want to explore the Sonoran Desert and learn more about it's natural history.
A must see, it was so cool to learn about the ecosystem and the forest of saquaro.
Great place to see huge cactus, only down side is the heat, 100+ days. Bring sunscreen.
East side. Very pretty but not as nice as other National parks
