This past Saturday I visited the ER with severe abdominal pain and cramping. I have two conditions that could possibly cause this but there was the chance it was appendicitis. While the waiting room didn't look too busy it was a busy day, so I waited a bit and when I was finally called back I was placed in the hallway. It was a long visit over 8 hours but you know what, the staff was great; attentive, articulate, and thorough. My needs were met within parameters everyone was comfortable with. (I.e. Painkillers, they started non narcotic and went from there in small increments that caused them to have to check On me more often than if they'd just decided to go the easy way and give me a full dose, which I was very grateful for and appreciated immensely) Were there people treated before me that came in after? Absolutely, it happens, there are situations that warrant it. Was it a bit weird to be in the hall? Sure, but it happens. There were other people that needed either the privacy due to their particular condition or they were children. Were there stretches in which I saw neither nurse nor doctor? Yup, but some tests take time and at that point I wasn't in any immediate danger of dying. Did I want to leave after a few hours? Of course I did, I don't like hospitals at all, but emergency departments are busy and time depends on what is going on. Did I get grumpy, I did, which I apologize for. In the end they couldn't pin point exactly what it was but left me with referrals and a thorough understanding of my options. It wasn't just the doctor and nurse either, it was the ultra sound and CT Scan techs too. Everyone was wonderful. There were hiccups with testing times and what not, but it wasn't malicious or anything. In an emergency department, emergencies happen. I didn't see anything as far as uncleanliness and being in the hall I did, in fact, witnessed the custodian thoroughly cleaning after patients departed as well as door handles, the floor, etc. When my sheet slipped down because the pain made it difficult to sit still I was brought a new one and another nurse stopped to help fix the bed and make sure I was comfortable. Over all I was absolutely satisfied with my visit and providers. Things happen, but I would reccomend this Hospital and was very happy with the over all visit despite my own antsiness and grumpiness while I was there. I of course can not speak for every personality type or anything, but the staff is great and knowledgeable. Id also like to say thank you to the staff members that made a painful and anxiety riddled situation manageable.

This hospital does not have a pediatric department, however I have to say I was pleased with the staff when I had to bring in my 9 year old. Our nurse Ian, and ultrasound tech John were absolutely amazing with my daughter and made her feel at ease.

I am medical guardian for my daughter. I have had nothing but trouble. One nurse was so rude and told me never to call again. One nurse has a mission on the afternoon shift to terrorize my daughter and upset her. I tried to speak with the nursing supervisor and she never returned my call. I have found this hospital very difficult to work with. Unaware of how a court appointed legal guardian is empowered to advocate for the patient - they are rude and uncooperative. I think this requires the public to know. It requires the Court be notified.

2009 review:Daughter was born here and nurses did not help me or give me my meds my hubby did everything for me and had to go get meds for me every time. Newborn was taken to NICU when she didn t need to go , and then they transferred her to another department without telling us ....we were looking for her. Also neonatologist at the time never looked at my daughter and charged my insurance which paid him without him actually seeing her. I hope the hospital in the maternity ward has improved. Please staff read this review as this is unacceptable for a doctor to bill without any services.

ER IS HORRIBLE. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I went in with my 10 year old son to the ER. He is in the autism spectrum and while there he had a meltdown due to noise, unfamiliar area and sensory issues. Because of this, they then had us wait for hours and they were talking about transferring him to Trinitas Hospital to stay in the children's psych ward there for a few day b/c of his meltdown! I told them he was in the autism spectrum. They told me if I tried to voluntarily leave with him without the hospital psychologist, they would call DYFS and have him taken from me!. I called my sons' neurologist immediately. They then brought both me and my 10 year old into PESS to have a video conference with the hospital psychologist (scary in itself in that unit let alone for a 10 year old!) and with the help of my son's neurologist they eventually released us. I wouldn't let them treat him for what we came in for and ended up making an emergency appointment the next day with doctors to treat him. THE ER STAFF REALLY NEEDS TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS INSTEAD OF INSTANTLY TREATING THE PEOPLE LIKE MENTAL PATIENTS. DISGUSTED!!!!!!!!!!

My husband has appendicitis. We've been sitting here going on 3 hours. People who were here after us have already been seen. Saying they are busy and have no beds yet he needs blood work take and they have taken several people back to just do bloodwork then sent them back out. This is ridiculous. Someone who was just thought to have strep throat went in before him. Next time we will go to another emergency room which is longer away than come to this one.

We had our first child at the hospital. It was the closes hospital and came highly recommended. The nurses and overall service of this hospital was amazing. Their knowledge helped us get through a tough night.

We took a few classes with nurse named Cecil who is I feel one of the most knowledgeable nurses. Cecil is such a caring and knowledgeable nurse that actually cares and it shows. I can see why she does the training. Her classes gave us so much confidence.

My wife and I totally recommend this hospital for labor and delivery.

Most incompetent hospital, if patients go in on an emergency basis. It is clear that they are unknowledgeable to make it worth going to the ER. So the patient should one feel completely confident leaving hospital, two the doctor should go over medical history including medications. If any of the medications taking caused interactions. They should make adjustments. Until patient receives care from the Primary Care. It does not take a rocket scientist to be competent. STANDARD OF CARE!!!! HELLO! Does this hospital even practice STANDARD OF CARE!

This hospital will keep you here forever even when you ask to be discharged AMA. I have contacted the media, the governors office, the patient advocates here, the social workers here, my insurance company and numerous other people yet I m still here. I m goinf to contact an attorney but I m not holding my breath at this point. The CEO here is Anthony Cava whom I will be requesting to speak with next. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from here.

I never really had a problem with this hospital until recently.

About 7 months ago I went in with abdominal pain. They checked for gallstones. I was told by the ER doctor I had no stones just sludge in my gallbladder and he sent me on my way.

Well just recently I started to feel very bad pains. Doubling over in pain because of it. I went to my regular primary and when she pulled up my file from 7 months ago it indeed said I had gallstones! Why wasn t I told I had gallstones the first time in the ER?!

Well I went to back to the ER bc of the pains. They did an ultrasound and cat scan and the works. They said they found nothing wrong but admitted me for the pain.

So I had a surgeon come in, talk to me about possible surgery and they ran more tests to rule out other possible things since ultrasound looked ok? That was fine by me. Was still baffled that they found gallstones 7 months ago and now they see nothing?

Well between doctors, nurses and surgeons no one was on the same page with my care. I was told at least 300 different things right down to the diet I needed while at the hospital (clear liquids, soft liquids fat free diet) well I had my surgeon tell me he wasn t going to perform any surgery bc I m obese. Listen obese people need surgery too! He was very rude.

So he told me he wanted to keep me and see how I do with liquids and if I still have pain he will have no choice but to do surgery. Still had the pains and they did NOTHING! They literally kept me there to feed me. I asked why they need to keep me there and feed me if they are clearly not going to do anything? No one had an answer for me. I had a GI dr come I. And he finally told me most general surgeons won t operate on someone who has he weight loss surgery bc our anatomy is different. Ok fine I get that. But why couldn t the surgeon tell me that? Or why couldn t they call in a bariatric surgeon at that point? They made me feel like I was stupid and making up my pain. They sent me home KNOWING I still have pains and gave me no pain meds to come home with!

I m telling you right now if I end up needing gallbladder surgery this hospital may have a VERY big lawsuit against them!!!!!!

Today I had an appointment with Nutritionist at 3pm, I was there 20 minutes early for my appointment at 2:40pm at out-patient registration to check-in. When I approached the lady in the out-patient registration main desk she told, the registration staff will call me and she did not take my name. Then I asked her, do they know my name to call me? She said they will call me and told me to wait. I was called by the out-patient registration staff around 3:07pm and the staff asked when is my appointment time, I told 3pm. At that time, he was searching for the Nutritionist department extension which he didn t had it handy and got it from other staff. He called the Nutritionist directly that I am here for the 3pm appointment, the Nutritionist refused to take me in and told me to come back on Monday as she is getting ready for the next appointment. I told her that is not my problem as I was there 20 minutes before my appointment time. The out-patient registration staff was also explaining to the Nutritionist that they were running late, and they could not register me early. Simply suggesting me to reschedule even though it was a mistake on their side, there were no apologies. The response was ridiculous and disappointing without owning their mistake. If they believe their time is important, my time is more important than theirs. I won t go back again.

Overall good experience. I was medically attended to very well overall. I wasn't left alone for long periods of time (a doctor or nurse would come to check on me). Food was very good, which helped to make me happy. The sick beds were also pretty comfortable.

Professional, clean, kind, and caring!! I was here for 4 days and 3 nights and I never felt that my pain, discomfort, and or concerns were not the #1 priority of all the staff I interacted with! I came in through the ER and was transferred to a private room within a few hours. From intake, to ER, to MRI's, to doctors, and most importantly all the attending nurses; I was always treated with respect.
If you read a lot of my reviews they are mostly about food and this place will be no different... I know it is going to sound weird but I had 10 meals during my stay and I loved the food! Very large and diverse menu!

Patients are having their door closed unable to get a nurse to respond to them. This has happened several times to my family. Please know that nurse response times appear to be slower than average. Hey, I know they all get 'busy' but this hospital is actually relatively mellow compared to the hospital I go to in California. So since it's not as busy, they need to know patients notice if people aren't paying attention to them.

My father came here for a kidney biopsy and boy did they screw this up!! The entire process took 8 hours end-to-end because they caused internal bleeding at the site of injection which is NOT supposed to happen; as a result, they kept him for several hours to monitor the situation. Then, after all this hassle and worry, they didn't even get a viable kidney tissue sample!! Are you kidding me?? Unacceptable! Go to Morristown Medical - they are one of the best hospitals in the country and absolutely worth the drive. What a waste of time and money. Never again, would never recommend!

Relative came here from dehydration only to discover he has cancer. Doctors kept disagreeing on treatment, weren't discussing between them on what to do. Even the nurses were confused. WE had to take charge and force the doctors to talk to each other. Thankfully we transferred our relative to another hospital for better treatment. This is the most disorganized hospital I have ever seen.

Then she hang up!
When ILast spoke with her at 9 AM the doctor didn t believe it was a heart attack, they were going to run tests and Then released her.
No compassion or kindness!
I rather die, instead of being brought there!

My Father was admitted to RWJ 2 weeks ago. After spending hrs in the ER, he was finally admitted around 3 AM. Having Pneumonia and an infection you can imagine how weak he was. Not to mention he is 88,
As the "nurse" on the 2nd floor was following the gurney she glanced back and asked "Can you walk?" Didn't even look at him. If she had, she would have noticed that he was very ill and barely awake. She was put out that she had to do her job and physically transfer him to a bed.
If you ever have the misfortune to stay on the 2nd floor Telemetry Unit, pray you are not seen by Dr. Thakur. She is incompetent as well as rude.
She touched my fathers feet and said "Oh he is doing much better."
the next day he was transferred to the CCU. Idiot!
I have no complaints about the CCU staff. They are everything you expect from Nurses and CCT's. Unfortunately you have to be very sick in order to get great care.
Thankfully he did get better and was moved back to the Telemetry Unit the Wed before Thanksgiving. We were told that a Social Worker would be speaking with us to pick a rehab, probably sometime over the weekend. On Friday afternoon I received a frantic phone call from my brother saying that my Father was being moved to a rehab. We were NEVER called, my father was very upset, he had no clothes other than the hospital gown. During the confusion the aid removed my fathers hearing aids because they had to remove the oxygen around his ears, When my Father realized they were gone it was too late, they had been thrown away. Now we have to put in an insurance claim.
I hope if my Fathers has to go to the Hospital again, it won't be at RWJ Somerset.

What a joke. Bring a 9 year old child, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath. Get to the ER at 8:00 pm. Check in. Leave after midnight because he is never scene. Great service. What the hell is the point of an ER if they don't admit a patient. What if he had a seizure or major problem in the waiting room ????? then would you care?? WHAT. A. DISGRACE.

My wife was there today for an outpatient procedure. I just want to say these people were really terrific - they were caring, nice, professional and sweet all the way around, from the reception downstairs to radiology upstairs and everything in between. My wife's food was really good - shockingly good for a hospital actually, and even she raved about it on the way home, especially the ice cream. Good food guys!! The doctor/technical staff were fantastic, too. Really shockingly impressed with how good RWJ was - i've lived in NJ for 33 years and our first time here for a procedure - everything was great, including the free parking!!!

I would give this hospital zero stars if possible....

I would give this hospital zero stars if possible. I ve never had such a horrible ER experience in my life. Started with the rude, security guard who gave me no sense of direction and the check in staff who got annoyed at me because I did not know where to go. Have SEVERE chest and back pains, flu symptoms for over a week, and the doctors could not care less. Thank goodness for the techs (Gabby specifically) and the one nurse for being kind or I would have walked out sooner than discharge. Asked multiple people for a simple pillow, blanket, and cup of water since they stuck me in a chair and not a bed.. didn t get anything but the water 5 minutes before they came in to discharge me, and that was because of my mother in law having to call them.. AGAIN. No one came in to check on me for almost 3 hours, sat alone in the room with no communication from any staff. The PA Jean is the most rude, inconsiderate human I ve ever met and shouldn t work with people nonetheless overnight ER. Told me there s nothing she can do for me, told me I am/was never sick because of my WBC (apparently I just like going to ERs for fun??), told me What do you want, narcotics? You re too young for narcotics, I won t give them to you. when I asked if there was anything she could do for my pain/breathing so I could finally sleep since they gave me NO diagnosis, offered to give me a shot if that would make me happy , told me don t be so upset you re making yourself sick . Implied that I was perfectly healthy, nothing was wrong with me, and everything was all in my head.. as I can hardly speak and breathe without stabbing pains. Despicable and unacceptable. I will never go here or recommend this place again. This will not be my final review of this horrendous place and so called doctors.

The only thing worse than actually being hospitalized is dealing with billing department and advanced hospital care. Kiran and Erika are entirely unhelpful and did not submit leave of absence paperwork to my employer in a timely fashion which resulted in my claim being denied. They continually blamed me for the delay, stating I had not given them enough time to fill out the paperwork. They then refused to send a simple email to request an extension. The time, stress and actual financial cost of their inaction is truly absurd.

Very disorganized place, poor communication and lack of consideration for close family members.

My sister just gave birth at this hospital. I travelled a long way to attend to this exciting event. We are identical twins and are very close. I was introduced to staff and my sister tried to involve me in her care and discussions with the Drs and staff as much as possible.

After we came to the planned procedure in the morning 2 nurses were trying start my sister on the IVs. They were having a very hard time inserting the lines and my sister was in pain. After several attempts and seeing her cry I suggested they would try to use an ultrasound as it was helpful in the past. The nurse got very defensive, borderline verbally aggressive and told me they knew what they were doing. One of the nurses said I was hurting her feelings by suggesting that the way the were doing it was not working. It was very hard seeing my sister suffering like that while they continued pocking her. This could easily result in an injury. Finally after leaving my sister in tears they decided to call a nurse anesthetist and he was able to put in 2 lines quickly and fortunately without major issues. This was a very stressful start of the day and the whole experience got all family upset.

They failed to inform my sister that she was supposed to keep some tag for her bloodwork that she did the day before so that morning they had to draw blood again.
The staff seemed somewhat confused about all the paperwork for the iv meds my sister was getting that day and when they finally got everything figured out they realized they hadn't thawed the IV drip properly and it was painfully cold for my sister.

When my sister was leaving to the OR for her C-section we talked about how I would be notified when the baby was born. The circulating nurse told me that she would come out to inform me and show me to the nursery. I was in the waiting area for a very long time and nobody came to talk to me. I finally had to go and search for someone to tell me if the surgery was over. It was almost an hour after my sister was in recovery that I found from somebody that the baby was born.

My sister has a medical condition which they were aware of before the procedure and for which she had to be monitored. When I tried to inquire how she was doing the staff told me they could not share that information with me "because of HIPPA". Again, the hospital staff were informed that my sister wanted them to talk to me about her condition and treatment. I had to wait again for over an hour just to find out if she was ok after she was brought to her room. They would not even tell me she was fine and her basic vital signs that had to be monitored.

I am a very close family member, an identical twin for a fact, and I was excluded from the process by staff and could not even get information on my twin sister's condition. I am astonished at such lack if sensitivity and basic consideration. I don't advise coming here.

Also, the hospital does not look modern. They practice keeping babies away from their mothers in the nurseries. All babies, including perfectly healthy ones are put in the nurseries. I thought this practice was discontinued years ago.

I have had great and terrible experiences with this hospital. The first time my father had a stroke and I kept distributing Baha i prayer cards to the staff, the nurses really appreciated my prayer cards and they took such good care of my father that he was taken to a rehab of our choice and back home for a couple of Happy Years! However, during my recent stay with my father who was suffering from a blockage in his arteries, I was so tired that I completely forgot about bringing Baha i prayer cards to the nursing staff and as per my father s kind request, I kept buying chocolate for the nursing staff as a token of appreciation for their hard work of dealing with so many ill patients! However, I noticed that the nursing staff is a combination of heavenly angels and a group of very ignorant nurses who just want their job to get done and no sympathy for the conditions of my poor father!!! They absolutely tortured me by not responding to my questions most of the time or double crossing what they had confirmed before! My father finally took his flight up to heaven after 8 days of being starved and constantly being injected by insulin and adding also diabetic pills to his daily medication although I don t think his blood sugar was that high because he wasn t eating anything! To me, they facilitated his death much sooner than he was supposed to go!!! We all go sooner or later but it will be nice if we take care of our duties and do it correctly especially if we are a nurse!!! The Almighty God is omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent and nothing is hidden from the eyes of God! So I have no doubts that all those nurses who were giggling and cracking up by making me and my father quite puzzled by their behavior will be reflecting on what they have done in this world once they take their passing to the next world too! I hope I never end up in that hospital since I lost all my trust in its medical staff after 8 days of witnessing how miserable it can be to be hospitalized!!!

I rarely write reviews. This warrants the effort considering the possible ramifications should I have just walked away.

My youngest daughter was swinging herself between 2 pieces of furniture and fell on her face putting her teeth into her lip. Our family is a early to bed family and being this happened at 740pm all of us were getting ready to turn in for the night. I threw on a flannel jacket, boots with sweat pants, and ran out with her to the hospital because the urgent care would be closed by time I got there.

The time it took to go from the front waiting area to the back was not long. However my four year old and I were in the hall, as was the other child I saw. Don't know if that is policy or just how it happened. Either way, I ended up being in the hall for an hour before I was seen. Now its 10pm after 830-845 arrival.

Once I was seen by the PA she said that she doesn't think we need stitches. The doctor that was half her age comes over and parrots the same thing. I was asked what I wanted to do because the area heals quickly and it would be traumatic for my daughter to get stitches. I sat and contemplated.

I am thinking speech impediment, scar tissue development bumping her lip out, etc. The doctor stated something to the effect that stitches would make the scar worse because the scar tissue would build on the sutures, which I never heard of. Scar tissue builds on the area the body is trying to close. In this case it would be on 2 cuts one about quarter inch long and half centimeter thick, and the other slightly smaller. This in my child's mouth the rest of her life as she learns to speak and form more complex words. She is four, she isn't going to leave it alone as it heals. I voice my concerns to the doctor and the tone changed. She took a picture and sent it to plastic surgeon who stated the same thing to her (apparently) that its my call. She said one stitch at most.

Did the tone change because I sounded educated? I didn't look it with work boots, flannel shirt, and sweat pants on.

To wrap this up... The PA that first came over saying no stitches ended up putting them in and giving her 3 not the doctor. I agreed to that because it was inside the mouth. No stitches to 3 stitches. Why the cat and mouse with doing the work? Is it hard to stitch a 4 year old? I bet it was I had tears in my eyes as I heard her scream. The trauma felt from three stitches far out weighs the possible speech issues or disfigurement.

That is life long trauma.

Unfortunately I understand why the back and forth. Yes, it cost time, man power, and risk with the 4 year old.

But thats your job. Make sure my little girl grows up and can have a chance, not talk with a lisp because you don't feel like putting in the stitches.

I did not have a very good experience at this hospital. I was seen in the ER, admitted to the hospital, put in a room with someone with an infectious disease, who should have been isolated. I was put at risk, as I did not go in for anything infectious. I was not given food for over 24 hours, or even offered water. When i asked someone for water, they ignored me snd never csme back. I do not recommend this hospital. Some staff rude. To be fair, the testing staff was good, corteous, MRI, CT scan etc. And I had one good nurse. Overall though, bad experience.

I would not recommend this hospital. I came here for an emergency, left more upset and stressed than when I entered because they couldn't give me a clear answer. Insurance covered a lot of it but I am still stuck paying $500 out of pocket. I had to go to my regular doctor the next day who helped me more than they did. Don't come here if you have other options.

Be careful!!! I rarely write reviews but the unpleasant and horrific experience with this hospital kept asking me to go back and provide the feedback. The nurse (chinese ethnicity) who handled my wife's labor was a horrible and rude person. In the year 2017, my wife delivered a baby girl by having a C section, which could have been a regular delivery without a surgery. That horrible nurse mishandled the medication during the labor. The intravenous medication used for the labor induction wasn't properly injected to the IV unit by that nurse and the medicine was actually spilling to the ground. The monitoring team of nurses couldn't find the reason for the delayed contraction and kept waiting for hours and later figured out the problem with one of the IV not sent to the mother. By now, both the mother and the baby got into a huge risk and then the doctor forced to get to a surgery. The reason for the need of surgery given by the doctor was that the chord tangled around the neck of the baby hence we have to go with C-section, which I cannot believe and was just told to save both the nurse's mistake and the reputation of the hospital which they couldn't prove too. That idiotic nurse was even rude while handling the mother during the labor while tilting positions without seeking another nurse's help. There were few good nurses who took care nicely post the labor but the one whom I referred above definitely spoils the whole reputation of the hospital and made this deliver experience a much more painful both physically and mentally . We regret choosing this RWJ hospital for the child birth. Be careful!!!

Went in for a test that required having a full bladder. I was instructed to drink between 24 and 34 oz of water an hour before the appointment time. I did not get called back until 30 minutes past my appointment time. I was in pain by this point because my bladder was so full. When I told the staff in the waiting area about fifteen minutes past my appointment time that I was in pain I was asked if I wanted to use the bathroom. Why? So I could be told the test couldn't be done and then be told it was my fault? My bladder was so full that when I had to lie down flat on my back for the test I was almost in tears. Why even bother setting appointment times when you can't keep on schedule? This isn't the first issue I have had with this hospital and their lack of professionalism, and I doubt it will be the last. The name changed, but the quality of service certainly didn't. Actually, one could say the quality of service changed, it got worse.

I can't wait to hear the reasoning behind why you don't get what you order.

I wanna give this hospital 5 stars. The labor and delivery department are far the best i have ever encountered. I gave birth a 2 weeks ago to a beautiful baby girl. All thanks to my wonderful doctor and nurses. The private room that we had was very nice, spacious and clean. The nurses made sure we have all the things we need and more. We all were treated really great from day 1 until we got discharged. However the billing dept needs work.

Where can I start with this unprofessional bad bed side manner Dr.Shadi Zandieh First of she comes in my room with an attitude comes straight in for me saying things she should never say as a so called Dr. I don t know where she received her licenses from but she needs to be in another profession because being a doctor and working and trying to help people is not for her. If they ever send you this doctor please ask for someone else. She s a very unpleasant person to want to meet especially in a hospital we re your coming to for comfort and to try to find out why your their in the first place. She very rude and loud and maybe one day someone will put her in her place. Her name is Dr Shadi Zandieh I wish I could rate her a zero because she doesn t even deserve a 1. THE WORST DOCTOR I EVER MET ON MY LIFE!!!!!!!

The amount of hate I have for this establishment and staff is undefineable. I mean it was enough for me to go out of my way, sign into my old google account, and leave a review. In hopes that if anyone looked into ever going here, that maybe, just maybe. I could change their mind. Don't reply on my comment in any regards on insight or to alter my perspective.

Staff was amazing. Really made me feel comfortable. I had an emergency procedure done to my finger regarding an infection and the doctors and nurses there really made me feel a sense of comfort even though I was in a situation that gave me such discomfort. ER nurse Maggie was awesome. She did the procedure and really made me feel like she cared. They even called the next day, as per her request, to see how I was doing. Amazing. Great healthcare!!!

Our family is grateful to the care and services our father received from RWJ during his admissions in the past two years. Staff has been excellent. Karen Odom from Medical Records reinforced our experiences at RWJ, going above and beyond in coordinating with my father s health care provider to ensure necessary documentation was received by end of day for his acceptance into skilled nursing. Karen recognized the sensitivity of the request, and eased our concerns by following up. It all starts with caring; Karen did just that.

I had outpatient surgery at RWJ/Barnabas in March 2018. While the surgery went smoothly and the hospital care was excellent, I was experiencing frustration with my hospital bill, which was significantly higher than the estimate. After repeated phone calls/conversations with the Billing Dept, I was at wits end. So I reached out to the Patient Experience Dept. The Patient Experience Dept. responded promptly to my inquiry and got to the bottom of the discrepancy. In fact, they wiped out the balance in question on my bill to zero. I felt like finally I was treated like a real human being, not just an "account number". Because of their actions, I will not hesitate to return to RWJ/Barnabas. Thank you!

Hello,

Hello,

I would like to leave my feedback during today's visit for my Father. His name is Manilal Sharma. He had PET scan procedure today. Where we have Shisha Patel as his Navigator. We are so much thankful and Happy during our visit for the service/helped we've received from Shisha. The reason I am leaving comment here to let management knows. That she is a big asset to your organization. I would say blessing for people whom she is always there and ready to help.

Excellent experience at RWJ Somerset. I was there for out patient surgery last month, and I was met by friendly, helpful, and personable members of staff from the moment the registration process started. Considering we are in the midst of a pandemic, this was so appreciated! From start to finish, the nurses, doctors, and staff were attentive and accommodating.

Worst place ever

Worst place ever
Nurse Rod was the worst in the ED never introduced himself; I had to ask somone else for his name. Communication is the key to nursing, something that s taught in nursing 101. Spended 5 hours with no medication(even when the doctor said she can have it). He even had the ordasty to leave without given it, when it was ordered at 6.
Will definitely let her doctor know.

I had to go to the ER on a Friday night, which is the worst possible time. But I was seen within 10 minutes. I had a room all to myself. Over the course of the next 6 hours, the doctor spent at least 45 minutes with me and the staff was extremely efficient and polite. They also took care of my medical needs.

My first child was born here Sept.1, worst experience ever. From the unprofessional staff, to the old maternity unit that looks like it's from the 1960's. Will never come back.

Dirty linens
Nurses talking bad about my girlfriend when the door closed behind her very loudly
Air bubbles 6+" that I caught in my girlfriends IV line right before entering her blood stream
No half-way DECENT sleeping accomodations after the C-Section.

My child was born with alot of issues and is in the NICU unit (transferred to RWJ New Brunswick which is a night and day difference) , the last thing I expect is for a hospital to be this unprofessional and treat patients in the way my girlfriend and myself were treated here. This place should be shut down.

Patient Advocates and even supervisors were unhelpful and even said very unprofessional things. AVOID this place

-- I wouldn't give this place a second chance if it was a life or death situation

I am scheduled to have surgery in the very near future at RWJ/Somerset and have read the "Very Scary" reviews of patient treatment! How can I be confident these issues are and or being addressed so future patients such as myself feel a bit more at ease. It's nervous enough having to get surgery than to have to feel concerned about staff and conditions of a Hospital prior to visiting!?? (I do want to say as a new patient having visited the Doctor who will perform my surgery, everyone in the office was absolutely comforting and treated me so well!) It's just the mostly bad reviews I just read. Seems so unreal, but still I am more nervous now!

Would not recommend the Eating Disorder Unit. Other than a couple of the nurses, no one there is worth the time. Very unprofessional staff, especially one of the Drs there Dr Rojon. She handled my 14 y/o daughter with a very cold, almost nasty demeanor. She hung up the phone on me because I was voicing my displeasure about how my daughters case was being handled. Communication from my daughters team was awful, got differing stories from everyone involved. We walked in one day for a meeting with the doctors on the team and had my daughters bags practically thrown at us, they decided to discharge her without letting us know first! Then they lied to a DYFS worker about my daughters case to make things harder on us going forward. Will never use that hospital again.

Incredibly rude and uncaring nurses. I was told by one nurse "didn't you have something to eat at home before you came here? Our hospital cafeteria is closed so you have to leave the hospital to buy your own food." If I was in charge I would have fired her on the spot for her complete lack of empathy and poor patient care.

I was scheduled for a csection on January 3rd and then all of sudden they were saying some bug for 4 years ago showed up so they had to reschedule me for the section . I was supposed to go in January 7th and now because the lab takes 48 they want to move my section until January 9th. But then again the doctor called me and said they made a mistake because they scheduled too many people on the 7th that s why they switching my day but in all the one token they still are blaming the lab . This hospital is very unorganized, unprofessional, & discriminates on people . It s sad the happiest day of my life Turned to the worst time . Don t go here if your pregnant go to st.peters . I wish I would of know this 9 months ago .

Worst hospital ever, no one calls you to tell you how your loved one is . When you call the nurses station they take your name and never call you back. My Mom got bed sores from this hospital . They wait too long to give special mattresses, when you ask they tell you for days they put in an order for one. So frustrating , every time she enters this hospital I have to call patient advocate. And when I complained to nurse she said she will have floor supervisor call me only to have the nurse call me to tell me I can reach out and call the supervisor myself. This stuff happens every time.

I was here a couple months ago.... The ER experience was questionable (which is why I gave 4 stars). What I remember most was a guy coming in with the estimated bill for services and asking if I wanted to pay it.... BEFORE I was even checked out by a doctor or nurse. I thought that was very off-putting. I was in severe pain, the last thing on my mind (at that point) was paying their estimated bill when I was more scared about what was wrong with me. Also, I found it frustrating to have to keep repeating my situation to each person I encountered just through triage. ... However, after admission, I felt that the hospital staff did great. I was on the 1st floor East for 5 days. Everyone was very attentive, everyone introduced themselves during shift change, the nurses were great. Everyone was very friendly, caring and compassionate. .... I am well aware of the unfortunate reputation of SMC, but I was pleasantly surprised by RWJ. I see that others have given recent bad reviews here. I hope that this is just temporary and that they improve all areas of concern. .... Wishing everyone peace, health & happiness!

Went there for bad headache on the left side of my head radiating into my ear, with neck stiffness and a swollen lymph nodes. Was told that it is possible shingles, even though I never had chicken pox. But because I had no rash they couldn't really tell. Told them possible tooth infection. They did not check. No cat scan, no xrays, no blood test, not even fever, absolutely nothing Told me to come back if I develop rash. For what I know, I could have life threatening viral disease but none of that was checked on. Just wasted $200 on copay. I got better care at local urgent care facility where I pay only $25, will never go back and do not recommend to anybody.

Horrible place. Focus is completely financial especially if you have private insurance. The staff is condescending and rude. Some training in patient and customer service etiquette is certainly needed. They are superior in placing the blame on another person or entity. I would not go here if my life depended on it.
