Emperors New Clothes

Emperors New Clothes
Call me old fashioned but when paying Top Dollar I think you should get Top service.
Ice cream/Sorbet ok but not outstanding for the price.
Staff can t judge them all but I must have met the rude one having a bad day.. Jezos what an attitude talk about dismissive and up her own bum.. and I was trying to be sooo polite as it was a scorcher of a day and kinda felt sorry for her.. hahah

It's great to have a local ice cream shop, and the idea of using all natural ingredients is a commendable one, albeit that seemingly as a result some of the flavours end up a bit subtle. For me I much prefer Italian style gelato with bigger bolder flavours, but presumably the ice cream here is healthier.

I would rate it higher were the service not so hit and miss. I come here with my daughter and there was at least one member of staff who was really nice to her - although we haven't seen her for a while now. Several of the younger, presumably newer members of staff have been surly and quite unpleasant though.

A particular bugbear of mine is the fact the kid's cone is only available in three flavours (chocolate, raspberry ripple and "maxi moo moo" - essentially a plain milk ice cream). My daughter, although only 5, is quite adventurous with flavours and surely part of the fun of going to an ice cream shop with a selection is trying something different every time - an open mindedness I want to encourage. ...but being only 5 I don't want her to eat a full grown up sized serving - and you can't exactly take an ice cream away from a child part way through when you think they've had enough. So this usually ends up in a surprisingly difficult conversation with the staff where I try to explain what seems to me a fairly straightforward concept - that I'm happy to pay the price for an adult serving if necessary so she doesn't have to be restricted to just 3 flavours but I want them to give her a "kid's cone" amount... A couple of times this has led to the staff being seemingly flummoxed and becoming quite grumpy.

All of that is a rather stark contrast against the warmth, willingness to accommodate and natural love of children (and, to be honest, better ice cream) we've experienced in gelaterias on Italian holidays. Is it really so hard to recreate that here? I have wonderful memories of both the gelato and the hospitality at Profumo di Rosa in Genoa, La Mela Verde in Venice, Vivoli in Florence or even closer to home Olivogelo in Belgravia.

Maybe we should just move to Italy?

Lovely ice-cream, kind service - staff suitably apologetic that due to an unforeseen heatwave and a bate of employee sickness there was an enormous queue. The only mild observation I'd make is that if you do go "card only" it would be better not to prohibit American Express, one of the most common cards people want to use.
Can't wait to try the chocolate sorbet next time!
