Lady would always set me up with the stuff that wasn't on the radio
We would go every other week or more if we where doing a basement party
And Damn they are still here ...Love this store

These people sold me a faulty phone that stopped working 2 months after I had purchased it. Because of their 7 day return policy said they wouldn't take a "used" phone. I went there Wednesday 3July, I was told to come back on Friday before 5PM. I went there on the said day at 11:15 AM. I ended up leaving at 1:45PM. They told me to come back in an hour for some Marino guy whom I guess was the guy that sold me the phone and was to help me. Next thing I am told this Marino guy is running late, next thing I'm told he might not show up, next thing I'm told he was sick earlier on. For all you know they could've told him not to pitch.They kept telling me to come back tomorrow or Sunday or whenever I have time. I spoke to FOUR staff there, or which none of them would point me to a manager. The customer service here is APPALLING. It's pretty much non-existent. The woman there told me they were busy meanwhile there were about 2 people in the whole store!

One of the guys said I wold call the number on their receipt, which I thought was very laughable given that I do not have one because they sold me a faulty one.

They seem to be targeting tourists who are not going to be in NYC for long,that way when they leave, and they're devices stop working they have no way way of filing a complaint or attempting to return it. TOURIST TRAP.

Bottom line These people are CROOKS! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM.

I have no experience at this store, but it is a true DJ's Paradise.

Welcoming and friendly personnel. So many different instruments and vinyls. The personnel is very helpful and knowledgeable about all the products. This place is simply superb!

I used to dj professinally for many years i do it for fun now only but whenever i need a piece of gear this is the only place I come to. You will never find prices and peace of mind like here the sales staff is polite and very knowledgeable they have the right answer on their finger tips as compared to " I'm not sure" you get at guitar center or sam ash. Plus they do their best to match your budget. My recent purchase was Pioneer ddj sb2 and a laptop stand. And i love it. They have djing instructor on premises too.

I've been here a few times now and there's great, good, and awful about this place.

First, the great. Their new and used selection is Amazing. I have never seen such a collection of MoFi's, old school rarities, and great hard to find DJ vinyl anywhere in NYC. I mean the only place that comes close is Turntable Lab, but they're more about all things new.

The good is just that, the staff is really good. They're helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable. You'll never have to hunt anyone down, and they're always attentive to the shop.

The awful is all about the condition, and prices. For a selection so great, so deep and so wide, they do am awful job at quality control on both new and used vinyl. There is no reason why so many "new" records are opened, or partially unwrapped. No reason for corners of new records to be scuffed, worn, or dented. There's absolutely no reason to charge, fairly inflated might I add, prices for records that are frankly, not new. I refuse to believe that $29.00 is a fair price for a record that's open, used, and with buff marks from 1989. A quick bit of research will tell you they even in mint condition it costs about $10.

Overall, this is a great shop for hunting down somewhat difficult records across Rock, Jazz, Hip-hop, and soul. I can't say enough about the selection. But, you're definitely not getting any deals here, and you really need to be careful with your line of acceptability. I recommend the Turntable Lab for a much better price to value experience. These guys are proud of their shop and it shows.

Great selection, unlike other record stores in NYC!

Sharon is one of the best that I have worked with when it comes to customer service. I was looking to create a DJ package and she was extremely helpful from the first point of contact. I got a sweet deal on the Rane 12's and Rane 72 along with some speakers. I would definitely encourage ordering gear from R&S and I will be the first to admit that I will be a returning customer.

My kids attended the beginner's DJ lesson with DJ Official @ Rock and Soul and they loved it! DJ Official took the time to explain the steps, he was very encouraging, and really funny too!! I highly recommend it. Can't wait to bring them back.

I usually don't write reviews but the experience I had here was so beyond expectation, I wanted to share.

I was in the market for a new turntable and speakers for a new apartment. Figuring I'd just look at what I've been seeing online, I was amazed when they were able to beat the prices of the leading online retailers.

And going further, I needed some powered shelf speakers (simplifying my audio set-up). The clerk took the time to remove them from the box so I can listen to how they sounded. He even covered them in bubble-wrap for me so that I didn't need to take the box home on the train. And, of course, he came in under the online retailers on the price.

I will absolutely be using them for all my future audio needs. Highly recommended!

Great place, lovely people, and lot's of cool stuff. If you are visiting New York, this is a must visit. Totally Worth it.

I have been meaning to review this store for awhile now! This is one of my favorite "Best Kept Secret" record store in the city! It has a great collection at good prices and the staff is one of the friendliest you'll ever meet (a rarity for record shops)!

When you first walk by, the store front looks like any of the thousand electronic stores in NYC. In fact, I first ventured in here looking for earbuds. It wasn't until I walked all the way to the back that I found an amazing record shop waiting to be plundered!

Their expertise is hip.hop, but you will find tons of other records from Indie stuff like MGMT to Calypso, Motown & Breakbeats. But like I said the bulk of their collection is Hip.hop - whether it be hard-to-find, underground records like Quasimoto or Ill Bill or main stage groups like ATCQ, Wu Tang or Outkast. My favorite niche they have are the boat-loads of rap/hip.hop 12" singles.

They have such a nice collection because this store is Dj/record shop straight out of the 90's! I love this because they don't just have good vinyl at good prices, but because they carry slip-mats, needles, cartridges, belts and even do repairs!

If you are in the area or want to find a place where the low-foot traffic = great finds Rock'N'Soul is your place!!

Music Shop where you can find everything you need for music lovers, djs and much more. They are really great at helping you find what you are looking for. Totally recommended!

I purchased the Numark NS7 III from Rock and Soul on a Thursday, they shipped it right away and I received it the very next day in the morning on my door step. The staff was very kind and very flexible with prices. I would recommend buying any kind of gear from these guys!

Spent $400 here for a record player for my husband. They recommended a blue tooth connector that we ended up not needing (it was a bad recommendation from their "experts") and they wouldn't let me return it under a month from purchase. The receipt has ZERO return policy on it. Now the record player does not work - we barely used it and it repeatedly skips - and the store did absolutely NOTHING. All we were asking for was to be able to exchange it for a different player. They were rude to us on the phone, wouldn't help out or contact Audio Technica for us. I would never shop here again. Stay away from this store at all costs.

I had such a great experience with Rock and Soul!!! My husband's birthday was coming up and I was looking for the perfect gift for him. I knew that he was interested in learning how to DJ as a hobby and a healthy outlet (he works very hard at his day job). It was overwhelming to do the research and find the right place. I tried my luck at rock and soul. They were my first try and they were amazing! So helpful on the phone, answered all of my questions, responded to my emails right away. So welcoming and accommodating. I booked a one- on- one session with them and my husband is in seventh heaven since then! The place is so nice and the people even nicer. The instructor was so knowledgeable, calm, and fun. We learned so much and can't wait for the next class. I definitely recommend to rock and soul to anyone looking for a great music resource!

I came here the other day for headphones. I had such an amazing experience. Sharon n her employees were extremely helpful and knew what they were talking about with their products. I highly recommend this store. Thank u Rock n Soul. U guys were awesome.

The salesmen where a bit pushy. But the staff was still pleasent. They are somewhat negotionable on price which is a plus.
Store is broken up into 3 sections. 1st was the cellphone hustler. I wasnt feeling him.
2nd is the misc items guy. He was cool. I bought a sick switchblade from him.
3rd was the music section. Its pretty sweet back there. Awesome stuff priced approiately. Check em out. Its a cool spot.

Support local record stores! The store had a pretty nice set up. Organization was mediocre, not really a place to buy quality used records, and the records were pretty cramped together. Very diverse selection, however.

They showed the item I ordered in stock on the website, I placed my order. Four days later they called me to tell me that they do not stock the item and would I like a different brand. The girl on the phone was extremely rude and hung up on me when I asked them to accept a return if their replacement item was not satisfactory as it was not what I originally ordered. She said "fine" and hung up on me... after being rude and acting like I was being unreasonable with my request. I was polite and trying to explain that the replacement was due to their error and that a restocking fee was not a fair option. I called back and asked to speak to a manager. She was "OK" at best after making excuses, but did ensure that I would not be charged an restocking fee.

I called today to get the tracking information since my order has not arrived and was supposed to be here today. After being place on hold for a few minutes the person had a hard time finding my order and then magically figured it out and stated "it was shipped two days ago". I asked for the tracking information to which she read off the number to me. I asked if she could please track the package on their system to see where it was and she replied "That is on you!, I'm busy and have tons of things going on right now."

I will update this review when/if my item arrives.

My item arrived and it was just "OK" i'm not happy with it and called to return. I spoke with the manager and this time the service was a bit better and she said they would take it back and give me a full refund. I am updating my rating from one star to two stars.

Once the refund is processed I will update this review.

Buyer Beware!!
Got ripped off by old guy (my age) in store on May 12 . Having just filled my camera's memory card and being outside 'Rock and Soul', popped in to pick up new card.

No doubt I paid for the convenience of availability, but after a fantistic 5 day stay it was the only negative issue.
Next time will try their music, but will check the price before I buy.

They recommended a product that lasted less than a year. I asked them via email if the warranty could replace it. They answered that they were going to see. When I personally arrived at the premises they were rude and badly predisposed. Especially the cashier telling me that "nobody was going to do for me what she was doing" (send a simple email to the brand). They made me go 3 times to
Local, to finally tell me that they couldn't change it. By mail they treated me as a liar. When I arrived at the store and showed the mail to the seller, he didn't know what to answer, nor who had written it. Do not go ! They are unpresentable. 1 Star is a lot ..

I made a query for a product and they did not know how to advise me, the cashier is a moody and the salesman Romel a liar. I will not come back.

Excellent site They had exactly the needle that had been looking for some time for that cartridge discontinued 10 years ago and that is not available online. Everything I was looking for at a reasonable price. Unbeatable site.

It s ehhhh ok store but is pricey for a record conditions are keep well but humans in store act a little funny.Overall place is alright could be better but you will find not find great deals here.

This place is legit!!!! Great selection of gear and vinyl, but of course ... the people are what make the place. Super friendly and helpful and I really enjoyed my lesson with D on the tables as well as an introduction to Serrato. Central Manhattan as well.

This is one of the worst record shops I have ever been to. Though I can't speak for the DJ equipment, as that is not what I was looking for, I can say that the record selection is not great. If you are looking for new and repress vinyl, there is plenty, albeit at a high cost. As for used or vintage records, there is little to no selection. I went in looking for vintage rock records, which at most record stores I have been to are plentiful. In this shop however, there was less than 1 square foot of space occupied by original vintage rock records. Don't be fooled by the pictures, the large selection of vinyl shown is all repress records. On top of this, the staff was somewhat rude. When I asked where to find the records I was looking for, the employee scoffed at me and got frustrated when I asked. The other employees seemed to watch me the whole time I was there. I advise spending your money and time elsewhere.

Found this shop on route to my hotel so popped in . Found some absolute gems . The ladies in there are very helpful and cheerful . Definitely worth calling in . Stock a bit of everything.

Rock and Soul was my go to record shop back in the 90's and early 00's. The staff there was always on point and super helpful. I have a collection of about 35+ crates of vinyl and at least 30 of them are filled with records I bought from rock and soul. Its 2017 and they're still around supplying the DJ community and record collectors withh old and new vinyl goodness. These days Ive gone digital but I still shop at Rock and Soul for all my DJ gear. They also do a lot of in-store events with some of the best DJs rocking out live in the store. Check their website I'm sure they have some kind of event sched.

Excellent, I went for several items and they had everything I needed, very good stock. On the other hand, the attention was also very good, I asked them for some technical details and they tried hard to answer me correctly. Without hesitation I recommend it, much better than other big stores that are in the whole USA.

Order irig and says have received it but I didn't. Rock and Soul ended up shipping me a new irig stream. I appreciate the customer service I have received.

Check their horrible return policy and don't trust the sales people. Whatever you want to hear, they'll say, then no refund when you point out the lie.

was in the nyc area for a couple of days and wanted to cop some records while I was there so I decided to check this place out they dont have a big selection of old records but they do have an overwhelming selection of dj equipment which peaked my interest.

These guys are absolutely the bomb! The sound quality was amazing. I am very thrilled to have choose them and when I was running late to return the speakers, they waited long after closing for me to return them. I would highly recommend them if you need audio equipment! 5/5

One of the few great record stores left in NYC. Been shopping here most of my life. The staff is so great and helpful and if they don t have in stock they move mountains to obtain a copy for me. Glad they have been able to adapt and survive these ever changing time in Music retail.

I am Urban Planner that has seen the dwindling of mom and pop stores in the city. This store has records and equipment that can help people learn and start DJing. I took the intro to DJ course. Considering that I am not a hip hop DJ, I did learn the fundamentals that can be use in any genre. They allow me to practice using their equipment and this has helped me learn more tricks on how to mix and produce an even flow set.

This one of the few non-chain DJ stores in the city. I have gone to Sam Ash, Guitar center and other stores. They just do not have the same connection with the customer like this store has. Hopefully they can adapt to changing times and be able to compete with chain stores. Maybe include an mp3 booth for people to purchase music. A booth that contains local artist production. This is the store that helped many artist in the past and the store that will help many artist in the future.

Sharon and her staff always takes the time to help me find the records I need for a gig or for my collection. Rock & Soul has all of my vinyl and DJ gear needs. If they don't have it, they seem to find it. The prices are great and whether I stop by the store to grab something when I'm in NYC or have something shipped to my home, I always get nothing but excellent care and customer service. When packages arrive, it's professionally packed and all my items are safe when I open up the shipping box. For those DJs looking for gear or for all the latest vinyl releases, hit up Sharon at Rock & Soul NYC. Besides, why would we not support local and independent record and gear stores? They get my vote.

A store employee (She was in charge, maybe the owner?*) guaranteed that the copy of Gorillaz- Demon Dayz they had was genuine and that they buy directly from record labels, but wouldn't let me open to confirm it or not. So, trusting the employee, I purchased the record. I stepped right outside the door, popped it open, noticed it was an illegal bootleg immediately (using an unboxing of a real copy and Discogs pages for information). The woman from the store argued with me for ten minutes ("are you from the label?? Oh no? Then how do you know it's fake??"). Incredibly rude, and refused to acknowledge that she wasn't allowed by law to sell it.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE.

They recommended a audio interface that wasn't even on the brands website because it was so old and after I bought it, it wouldn't work with my computer and then I found out that this was too old to use my computer... There was no returns

I dropped my old turntable off for repair. They gave me a quote and told me it would be ready in 4 days. I checked in 4 days later and it was all fixed up and cleaned. They charged me the same as they quoted, and I've been thoroughly enjoying my record player ever since.

Great customer service and fast delivery! I found online that Rock and Soul had a hard-to-find part in stock that I needed, and one quick phone call had it delivered quickly (though we could have ordered online, we had to be sure it was the exact part we needed). Thanks again!
