The the cinema rooms are not the best but get the job done and for special events like opening nights they are great with a even better atmosphere. The prices here are the best and food and drinks are available.

Parking station next door. There is no bottled juice available here. Overall quite a charming older style movie theatre, with modernised actual Cinema spaces. The Spot is just an awesome place for dinner.

I like the place. It gives you the feeling of what real cinema used to be traditionally without going over the top. Bright lights for wow factor, chocktop and red carpet.. prices still reasonable even! Parking is the problem .. consider public transport or extra long walk ..

Someone give Julie a raise! Friendly and patient, so helpful, helped me over the phone.

Cute quaint place, wish they had assigned seating for peak times though.

Love that they do Open Caption screenings, they should have more and advertise more to the UNSW International students (I m thinking WeChat). Avengers would be a particular hit with the demographic.

Candy bar items relatively good value for a Sydney cinema, tickets good enough too.

Hope it keeps going for a long time.

Gorgeous heritage art deco cinema nestled amongst ...

Gorgeous heritage art deco cinema nestled amongst a wide variety of bars and eateries in one of Eastern Suburbs least pretentious, most cosmopolitan suburbs.
Unlike the massive cinema complex on George street in the city: you can enjoy a film at the beautiful little Ritz in Randwick without subjecting yourself and your loved ones to hypothermia and irreversible hearing loss as the staff at the Ritz can correctly tune both audio and air-con levels.
The pop-corn is just as revolting and ridiculously priced as anywhere else but all other aspects are far superior to the George Street or Westfields cinemas - particularly (besides the gorgeous art deco Golden Era of Hollywood ambience) the cleanliness of the bathrooms.
Also: there is no need to get aggressively militant to fight for your right to bring your own food/drinks or snacks to avoid bankrupting your entire family at the snack bar here. Just bring it in. No one cares. So long as it doesn t stink or obviously include BYO alcohol -not that alcohol is prohibited - but in that one regard they insist you buy it from them at their prices (similar to pub prices anyway).
I recommend bringing in a pizza from home or Thai street food from next-door, gummy bears and pineapples lollies from Coles, and getting your tickets and several gin and tonics somewhat early to do some crowd-watching before the film starts.

God willing this little beauty survives to co-exist with Netflix. I have some faith she will. She lived to rise above the ashes of Video Ezy and Civic (once slated to make her redundant). No doubt the fine lines of her historical architecture are protected from total erasure by development should Netflix do what Video Ezy could not.*

But it would be a real shame if this beautiful, majestic little Hepburn of a building lost it s status as a working, lively, well-staffed cinema and turned into a kitsch block of apartments of historical importance that would each be well out of the price-range of anyone from Sydney not named Packer .

* though the Cock&Bull pub in Bondi Junction was a historic building and venue and they razed it to the ground to clear the path for high-rise apartments ~currently under construction~. As is the rest of Sydney. Always.

Nevertheless sound system and seating are good. Also, the decor is quite amazing. Amazing discounts for students on Mondays!

We live in a world of "tap & go". Cash is yesterday legal tender. So when I bought choc top and they said there was a min charge of $8.00, ritz lost a sale but more importantly pissed off a customer and left doubts about tomorrow's ritz. Change your policy it makes no sense to have min credit card purchases with touch & go.

Wonderful atmosphere, very different to what you might get at Hoyts or Event. Prices are also respectable for the experience.

The only problem I had was that given some very specific circumstances the sound system will cause the screen to vibrate. Not a big problem as it only occurs when a very even, low pitched sound is playing at a high volume (something like inside an aircraft or helicopter blades)

Nice cinema, very art deco/1920's look. We went and saw a movie last night. Sound and image quality were very good. Chairs were comfy. They show smaller indie movies and the big blockbusters alike.

The tickets are cheap, especially on Tuesday, and this is an independent local business showing new blockbusters and old classics as well as foreign films. A diverse cinema, it is an experience to visit every time.
