Ritz is an excellent theater. I remember when it was owned by Brigidine college nuns. I went to primary school there, and one of my favourite memories was performing on the Ritz stage at 6 years old - funny face!
Aside from the ambiance and Art Deco style the sound and viewing is also excellent, and you can take a glass of wine in with you to your movie.
An iconic Sydney destination and a highly recommended and unique cinematic experience.

We like this cinema because it is different from the usual big ones and it is cheaper!
The screens and sound system are good quality, maybe just a bit smaller than the big ones you find in the shopping Centre. However the location and the vibe make this historical cinema a good option.
Parking is hard so bus might be a good option.

Who doesn't love a little cinema that serves wine and beer + ice cream!?! The Ritz has some great events and special screenings, which makes it a little community gem. The young people that work here are all very nice, and even when they're really busy, everyone is friendly and takes the time to smile. Great night out at the movies spot.

Lovely little cinema. New films aren't shown for as long as bigger chains so go sooner rather than later for those and also shows some old school films too. Friendly staff. Not over crowded. Nice, pleasant cinema to go to. Have been several times and will go again!

Great price, great staff, great selection of movie. It has a vintage touch of the cinema. Seats are not great compare to the modern cinema in the city, but definitely recommending - UNSW students get a discount as well. Also, there is a nice snack bar and an ACTUAL bar. Great for dates or students.

Only been here once but felt like I was transported back into another time in the past. The decor is amazing. Feels very arthouse as it's supposed to be. Has a classic entrance of cinemas of yesteryears with the bright incandescent lights. The true-to-tradition counter to buy tickets. Regular 35mm and 70mm screenings for films available in the formats. Good popcorn and their choctops which they make themselves. Seats are smaller than expected. Ticket prices are pretty good as well with $16 for adult. Will surely be heading back.

Great place to come and see a movie, nostalgic but still cosy and having all the things you get at a modern multiplex, but with the personal service you don't get at other places. You can even enjoy a good coffee or alcoholic drink with your movie. Also lots of good restaurants nearby and soon to be easy to reach on the tram. We'll be back even though it's a long trip for us.

The Ritz is an Inner East institution. A glorious place to see a movie, it beautifully balances the need for blockbusters and profit with a sense of arthouse style. Like any Australian cinema, there's a sense that everything is being run on a shoestring. A pity. A more lavish sensibility would suit the Ritz's picture-palace pedigree. Even so, you won't find a better independent cinema in Sydney.
