Here for a family wedding. Beautiful grounds and old building. Rooms were decent but sound leakage from corridor / other guests was noticeable. Breakfast and food good but not quite at the top level!

A beautiful stately home in the middle of the New Forest. We visited a wedding fair and were taken aback by the house and especially the grounds to the side and at the back of the house. It is not the right location for us, but we were still very impressed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to us.

Almost great

Almost great

This was booked to celebrate my birthday (no biggie, I've already had plenty of those!)
Beautiful setting, great to look at, right away from "it all".
Unfortunately there had been 3 weddings the previous 3 nights (this was a Monday) and you could tell that the staff were trying to catch up, the pool (one of the main reasons for booking) was full of dirt / grit / sand and the not shallow end floor could not be seen, dirty towels littered the area, what a shame.

When shown to our room (they do that here) we were amazed - the whole wall window look directly into the forest no more then 20 feet away.
The breakfast was excellent (we went for fish and chips on the harbour in Lymington), made to order just the way it should be with a huge pot of leaf tea and extra water all without asking.

Would we go again - yes, but only when we're sure nothing major was happening the preceding day(s)

Fabulous hotel with great, friendly service from all staff. Location is just perfect surrounded by the New Forest, just so tranquil. The food was all cooked to a high standard from breakfast to fine dining and the Champagne cream tea was divine! Well worth a visit for sure.

The building and grounds are beautiful as are the breakfast and formal dining rooms. The bedroom we stayed in was typical for a standard room of a 4 star hotel if not a little on the small side. The spa and indoor pool area is small and the layout of the hotel is inherited from its timeshare days i.e. the spa is at the opposite end of the hotel to the bedrooms and there is a maze of corridors and the lounge bar to navigate to get there. Not exactly the place you would wander in your spa robe... Breakfast choice and quality was good. The outdoor pool is accessed via the gardens and is heated. Great location for walks straight out in to the forest and with wide bike tracks on the doorstep as well.

We recently visited New Forrest for hiking, and we found this hotel near by from our tall tree trial. Hence we wanted to stop by for a quick lunch. It's four adults, one two and half year old girl and a dog, given we have pet we always check with the staff before hand if it's dog friendly. The waiter for the restaurant told us that you can have lunch with dog, but need to be seated outside, which we think is fine. It did take us 20 mins to wait for the guy to take our orders, however it's nice nearby hence we walked around. Another 20mins later, there is a lady came by said this is no dog policy in the hotel, so we need to leave immediately. We found quite offended, as she came with quite rude manner, basically ignore our explanation and keep saying you will have to leave. So we kindly asked to meet the manager, he was in the meeting at that time. Another 10 mins passed by, manager (his name is Mark) came by, but unfortunately with even ruder manner. He questioned us basically on two points:
1. Why you did not check on the website or call the reception to check the dog policy.
2. Why you entered the hotel in the side door, and not the main entrance.

We find this ridiculous, as we were given false guidance by the waiter, where he indicated later he is 2,3 weeks new to the job unfortunately. But rather to question how we did not double check, but entered directly. My point was, if i can't trust your waiter in site, what you expect me to trust your employee whoever picked up my call. How many times do i need to check because of your employee's incompetence. How would you expect us to enter, when you have several entrance to the hotel/restaurant. Somehow, our comments made him extremely angry, he said:" Don't put words in my mouth, i did not say he is incompetent".

Given the situation, and 60 mins that is wasted in this matter (ordered food 40mins ago), my friend almost got into a fight with him, he keeps saying what we expect him to do. " Better attitude" one of my friend said. To be fair, he did apologies about the time that we wasted on this, but in a very arrogant/rude manner. We would not want to waste any time and left to have lunch at Swan which is about 5 mins away. Dog and kids friendly.

Overall, that really ruined the weekend for us, and i have never seen such arrogant manager who was supposed to deal with customers. He has been focus on what a dog owner should do better, but completely ignore the fact his employee made false information. We ordered lots of food, but did not suggest to take away or even lock the dog outside/or even in the car, the whole time been accusing us not double check or enter via the main entrance. Speechless really, would totally avoid given the customer experience we have.

Fantastic hotel! The staff are very nice and efficient. We had a fabulous meal in the Armada restaurant. The maitre d was very attentive, friendly and really made my birthday meal one I won't forget. The room was clean, cosy and surprisingly spacious. The Spa, although not very big, had a good amenities and the massage that I had was very relaxing. Highly recommend!

Plus points first. Room, food, ambience, location for other sites to see. Minus. No consistency on catering. Great, tasty, well presented food, fab, follow up restaurant service, poor, slow to the point of ignoring you, social skills not More

This should be scoring five stars across the board. The hotel is a lovely, late Victorian pastiche of Tudor / gothic architecture with some stunning interiors. We loved the Alhambra-inspired smoking room (ceiling pictured). We swam in the heated outdoor pool and then used the spa and indoor pool. All good, but be aware that the indoor pool is very small. The landscaped gardens are fabulous and our children enjoyed feeding the fish in the very large ornamental ponds.

The restaurant was the let down. We dined in the Conservatory and the experience was as close to Fawlty Towers as I ever want to get. It was barely a quarter full, yet a steady succession of guests were being curtly turned away due to a lack of staff. So I would recommend that you book ahead if you want to eat here. The waiter coped, just, but was clearly harassed. The Rhinefield bills itself as a luxury hotel, but our experience fell short this time.

The food was good.

Exquisite! Stunning location in the heart of the new forest, close to a Wildlife Park and Exbury Gardens. The hotel was beautiful and the staff were lovely and attentive to all of our needs. Can't wait to visit again in the autumn.

Have been to Rhinefield House a few times, most recently for a friend's wedding and have always had a wonderful time. Set in a beautiful part of the New Forest the house has ornate wood carvings all over and is very fancy. Plenty of large rooms for guests to stay in over night and lots of space to either relax in or party. The food was fantastic, very high quality and cooked to perfection.

The worst Afternoon Tea experience we have ever had. Firstly we had to wait 30 minutes to get attention of the waiter. Once we got the attention it took another 30 minutes to order. For a 4 star hotel, the waiters are very rude, the service is pathetic. Wouldn t recommend this to anyone

A fabulous, old and tudor-esque mansion hotel. Situated in beautiful new forest grounds in Hampshire the surrounding views are beautiful and showcase a snapshot of the enormous new forest area. The hotel offers exquisite interiors and gardens. Keep your eyes peeled in the grounds for local wildlife. You will often cross paths with deer on the drive up to the hotel.

Down to earth luxury.

Excellent as always. Rooms are a decent size, with very comfortable beds (although the duvet was very warm!). Great food and customer service. Expensive but feels like a real break from the world.

Recently spent two nights at this hotel everything about the hotel was fabulous our room the situation of the hotel were excellent we also tried out the spa and indulged in a couple of treatments which were professional and very enjoyable I think the only letdown was the food for us as it was a little sparse in the armada restaurant if we had known we would have booked for dinner in the grill restaurant or gone out to a local pub ... but overall the staff and the overall feel of the hotel was great I would definitely recommend anyone to stay at this beautiful hotel can't wait to return

My family and I enjoy coming here to stay for our Family Summer Holiday!! ... My parents own a timeshare apartment and it's our own piece of luxury. It's beautiful and peaceful setting is all you need for a well deserved break after busy and hectic lifestyle. ... There is always plenty of things to do locally, IE, hire bikes and go for a ride throughout the forest, or enjoy drive around and take in the views, or even just stay at the hotel and enjoy the spa, swimming pools or enjoy the gardens. .. The staff are always welcoming and always willing to help and approach with a friendly manor. Yes it can be a bit busy and noisy at times, especially when parties and weddings are on, but that's what you expect from a multifunctional hotel. But this doesn't stop us visiting every year!!!

When I visit somewhere like this I expect a higher standard of service than I might of other places.... Things like being greeted by the woman serving behind the bar by a "you alright?". After a long wait for food we were served barely warm fries and a very average burger (at a very premium price). No I didn't say anything at the time as I was with clients and pushed for time. Oh and the music being played through the speakers in the bar was distorting badly. Like I said, it's all about the standards and small details.

All that said, the grounds and gardens are simply stunning, a wonderful place to simply be.

My wife and I came to Rhinefield for a couple of days to mark a special occassion. The house and location is quite exceptional, lovely quiet location in mature woodland with spectacular majestic red wood trees. Food is great service is great. Gardens and grounds are a great backdrop for photos koi ponds and New Forest ponies munching on the grass beside your room.

The Rhinefield has standards that most hotels have forgotten ever existed. Whilst being far from 'stuffy it retains much of its former elegance and class. In today's changing times Rhinefield has kept abreast of current mood swings, there is a pleasant atmosphere, the building is possibly coming to the end of its last major refit, but spotlessly clean and well maintained, in decent weather a walk around the grounds a pleasant experience, but sadly at this time of the year, just a back drop to be enjoyed from the warmth and comfort of the rooms, lounges and restaurants. I have always found the food here to be well prepared, presented with decent sized portions, and thoroughly enjoyable. Prices are fair and good value compared to top restaurants in nearby towns. The staff are well trained, competent, and give a high level of service.

Wonderful location, grounds, food and service. Nothing was too much trouble. Two beautiful weddings were held there during our stay, but you hardly noticed as a hotel guest.
The grounds of this old Manor house are really well kept and back on to the new forest and Rheinfield Drive with incredible massive redwood trees.

Visited this beautiful property for lunch today, the 28th of July and am so disappointed. The hotel itself is amazing but the food we ordered and the accompanying service was dismal. We had coronation chicken as a salad (what a joke). There were 2 long hairs in my first serving, obviously it was sent back, but I should have just cancelled the order instead. The chicken itself was tasteless and the salad didn't exist unless you count some very small pieces of lettuce and absolutely nothing else. To top it off we sat with the dirty dishes for an hour and a half before they were eventually cleared away. So disappointing, however, the did redeem themselves to a certain degree by not charging us anything at all for the two meals and the coffees we had earlier.

This is a lovely historic characterful hotel situated in wonderful expansive grounds with beautiful gardens ideal for romantic getaways. Stayed in the main house which we love, as well as the modern wing which we didn't like as much due to lack of views. Service is outstanding, staff well mannered and attentive. My husband and I had afternoon noon as our wedding anniversary treat looking out at the water fountains which was very special.
Love the new forest and this hotel is a lovely find. Highly recommend.
