We recently visited New Forrest for hiking, and we found this hotel near by from our tall tree trial. Hence we wanted to stop by for a quick lunch. It's four adults, one two and half year old girl and a dog, given we have pet we always check with the staff before hand if it's dog friendly. The waiter for the restaurant told us that you can have lunch with dog, but need to be seated outside, which we think is fine. It did take us 20 mins to wait for the guy to take our orders, however it's nice nearby hence we walked around. Another 20mins later, there is a lady came by said this is no dog policy in the hotel, so we need to leave immediately. We found quite offended, as she came with quite rude manner, basically ignore our explanation and keep saying you will have to leave. So we kindly asked to meet the manager, he was in the meeting at that time. Another 10 mins passed by, manager (his name is Mark) came by, but unfortunately with even ruder manner. He questioned us basically on two points:
1. Why you did not check on the website or call the reception to check the dog policy.
2. Why you entered the hotel in the side door, and not the main entrance.
We find this ridiculous, as we were given false guidance by the waiter, where he indicated later he is 2,3 weeks new to the job unfortunately. But rather to question how we did not double check, but entered directly. My point was, if i can't trust your waiter in site, what you expect me to trust your employee whoever picked up my call. How many times do i need to check because of your employee's incompetence. How would you expect us to enter, when you have several entrance to the hotel/restaurant. Somehow, our comments made him extremely angry, he said:" Don't put words in my mouth, i did not say he is incompetent".
Given the situation, and 60 mins that is wasted in this matter (ordered food 40mins ago), my friend almost got into a fight with him, he keeps saying what we expect him to do. " Better attitude" one of my friend said. To be fair, he did apologies about the time that we wasted on this, but in a very arrogant/rude manner. We would not want to waste any time and left to have lunch at Swan which is about 5 mins away. Dog and kids friendly.
Overall, that really ruined the weekend for us, and i have never seen such arrogant manager who was supposed to deal with customers. He has been focus on what a dog owner should do better, but completely ignore the fact his employee made false information. We ordered lots of food, but did not suggest to take away or even lock the dog outside/or even in the car, the whole time been accusing us not double check or enter via the main entrance. Speechless really, would totally avoid given the customer experience we have.
