Just ok food n service tonight. I have eaten here several times and on nights that was more busy than tonight with better tasting crab. Maybe new management but not the same. To bad, it was my go to spot for crab legs.

I had a great time at Captain Jack's today. Our server was very attentive and thoughtful, though I forgot his name. The rest of the staff was similarly excellent and helpful for our party of 10. Food came out quickly and was super delicious. Definitely order the escargot. Be sure to let all that buttery, escargot-y juice/ sauce soak into the garlic bread that accompanies this dish! Their prime rib was pretty spot on, too. And lastly mosdefinitely not leastly, their red Alaskan crab legs. You can't come here and NOT order these!

The ultimate hole in the wall. My wife and I along with our friends love this place! I lived in HB since 1978 and this place has been there for as long as I can remember. A friend took my wife and I here and I had forgotten all about this place. The food and service is all you will remember after the long wait and the tiny facility.

I've been a customer here for decades. You need to make reservations and then order the crab legs, don't miss 'em. I like to sit in the back corner behind the aquarium in a booth that over looks the canal. I love to watch the boats tie-off and patrons walk inside, once a 18 yr old boy brought his senior date !!! So cute. They are the michelin chef's of crab, If you think you've been cheated by other restaurants crab plate, you have arrived in crab heaven. Number 10s, huge and delicious. They also do great oyster shooters and lobster.

Good, but could've been better... I've had better.

While the seafood selection does look amazing, I felt that the execution left something to be desired.

I had the shrimp scampi w/ linguine. The shrimp were cooked well, but not seasoned all that well & the garlic & butter dip was bland. And the linguine base, nothing comes on it & is meant (I assume) to be eaten after all of the garlic butter drippings from the shrimp have coated the pasta & the parmesan has been mixed in (comes in a separate container).

The noise level were near suffocating & I felt a sense of relief once I left the dinning area. The noise levels alone make me wary of returning. It s like a crowded sports bar on a Saturday night, except filled w retirees.

Save your money because this place is $$ VERY EXPENSIVE $$ and to be honest, it's not worth it. The prime rib had a ton of fat, my halibut was dry, my baked potato was warm at best, the blue cheese dressing was almost flavorless, the horseradish didn't even have a kick to it, and the service was just ok. The worst part was the bartender was a jerk (employees agreed) to one of the elders of our family. When you're paying a thousand dollars for dinner, employees should bend over backwards to make you happy. None of us will ever go back. Very disappointed. You can get better food at Outback. #LOCALGUIDES

what an awesome place for pretty good quality seafood albeit a bit over-priced compared to where i went today (dined here on NYE) great service and wonderful food though nothing really innovative, not for those seeking trendy/edgy food...just regular ole seafood. nice, quiet atmosphere. was crowded on NYE but most any other night would probably be a great place to bring a date you might be trying to impress. would go again. bartender Tommy was heavy handed with the vodka in my drink(s) bar tending/drinks were just a small step above the dining service. do not order the rack of lamb, a member of my party ordered it med/well, why anyone would want tough lamb is beyond me but it was undercooked (to her liking)

not exactly top-notch but also not bottom shelf.

Wow! First time here and it was very cozy, Loved it. The atmosphere was fun, I felt like I was on a old boat somewhere docked. The Prime rib and Crab Legs were amazing. Did not disappoint, and I am surely gonna come back. This was not cheap but was worth every penny. Excellent service and the staff had a great attitude. More for adults then children, and the drinks were on point! With so much food on the plate, I did not have space for dessert but they brought and offered dessert to our table and the desserts looked delicious. Damn good spot!

I have been going here for over 30 years. They have some of the best, if not the best seafood in SoCal. And the service is fantastic. It starts the moment the hostess, or host, is bringing you to your table as all of the wait-staff great you by name, whether it's your 100th visit or your 1st.

2 people can easily share the surf and turf combo. It comes with approximately 4 king crab legs, a 12oz bone out prime rib steak, an extra large baked potato (subbed for the rice), a decent sized salad, and complimentary bread for the table. The food is top quality and the prices are expensive but worth it. If you order just king crab, it's all of the above with even more king crab to make up for the lack of steak. The steak comes with a creamy horseradish sauce on the side that I actually like to dip my crab in! The salad dressings are homemade but I prefer their Caesar dressing over their Blue Cheese dressing. The potato comes loaded, but you can add on shredded cheddar and diced bacon. However I'd advise against the bacon because it's extra fatty and barely cooked. The crab stuffed mushroom appetizer is excellent with freshly shredded crab meat. You must have a reservation or else expect to wait 30-60 minutes to be seated. Thursday is no corkage fee.

Except for the warm bread and blue cheese salad the food was kind of bland. As I read in another review about the crab stuffed mushrooms having crab shells in them I had them as well and told the waiter about it who seemed kind of shocked but oh well..its the truth..as for the king crab legs..yes you get large portions no doubt but I guess I prefer them cold than hot. The baked potato was also not tasty. However I will say the service was friendly but the parking is a pain in the butt..hardly nowhere to park! I was lucky to park across the street fortunately...anyways I give this restaurant between a B- and C.

My wife ordered a seafood platter that included crab, shrimp, scallops, & swordfish. I ordered the prime rib. Generous portions! The prime rib was 2 pounds! The side of rice was minimal. Overall, we would eat here again for a nice night out; however, we would likely split one order. Prices were high but not outrageous for the portions and flavor of the food.

Very fresh seafood and nice touch of seasoning. Hi...

Very fresh seafood and nice touch of seasoning. Highlights of the menu:
1. Fresh native steamers. Soft shell clams and mussels in a steamer to keep them warm, very cute decoration too.
2. Caesar salads (some veggie between your high protein dishes). They provide creamy ranch and Italian vinegar sauce to switch around.
3. King crab legs
4. Prime rib steak. Very moist, juicy and thick piece of meat. Order asparagus to go with dish.
5. I can't skip mentioning the bread and butter serve when waiting for food are excellent. Bread is soft and warm, house made and you can smell the freshness but don't eat too much because you need to keep place for large portion of all dishes!

Service is a little minus since some servers are very nice but some might turn down your mood.

Plus point is great spot for boat parking. We went on boat to restaurant from house so it's just perfect that restaurant is located next to water. Servers gonna be super helpful with docking the boat! However, I hear feedbacks from friends that parking is a little difficult. So expect a little walk if you need to.

Captain Jack's has fast become a family favorite. Close your eyes, order a Margarita and you have arrived in Buffet's Margaritaville. For one, you'd be hard pressed to find a better tasting and generously sized (32 oz) Prime Rib as well as equally delicious seafood entrees to enjoy while listening to live music. We started with fresh Blue Point Oysters and warm artichokes and these set the tone for all that followed. DELISH!! Our Chilean Sea Bass and Australian Lobster tail entrees were cooked to perfection. Each garnished with a fresh cup of warm butter or complimentary sauce. The Alaskan King Crab is ample and tasted like seafood candy; you always want another piece! So you can also enjoy a combo entree that includes these. And you can't leave before browsing then drooling over their dessert selection tray. Such an array of decadent desserts await you. We always go for the chocolate ones as they are all decadent! Located in Sunset Beach on the canal it is a slice of heaven both day and night!

Been coming here for years, and absolutely love the vibe, cocktails, and everything on the menu is delicious!
Great cross section of society too!
I live happily in AZ now, but always stop in for dinner when I'm in town. Always feels the same, which is great!

The service was excellent, The Pumpernickel bread was Excellent. We ordered the Surf and Turf and Red crab~ Filet was not a prime cut of beef. and I would have preferred Main Lobster tail to Australian (No offense to my friends down under) even if the price was slightly higher. The Red (King) Crab legs were very good. But, I was annoyed by the Filet. I was expecting a better cut of meat for the price. The staff was really good and allowed my date and I to have fun and enjoy our meal. I would look closer at the meat supplier and/or the chief.. Revisited again and filet issue resolved and had another great night here.
