I rescind. Everyone's entitled to a snarky day. Maybe by bad odds, I just showed up for several of them.

Go to the Reno Bike Project - They are really helpful, honest and the price is more than fair. This is a very unusual bike shop. Kind of hippy-ish, but very nice people, friendly, not snobby. The fact you can come in and use their extensive tools and truing stands for a very nominal fee is a great idea and long overdue. Be sure to donate something while you are there to keep this going.

Two Locations, now! Thanks for the help. I'm most of the way through building a single speed from an old Motobecane 10-speed someone left by a dumpster, and got most of my parts, including wheels, tires and an hour of shop time and tools for a really really great price. Ray and Ray you rock. Cheers.

W-O-W!!!!! These guys rock - local bike shops are snooty, won't let me watch what they are doing so I can do it myself -- these guys have a shop full of used bikes and strange people - all WONDERFUL - from the used bike that was $600 on Craigs list here, -- $100 there.

Got a bike unlike what I wanted because it was BETTER than the one I THOUGHT I wanted - have done the Pacific-Atlantic and back run twice, TansCan once, CaLif-Oregon coast and back through the Eastern slopes of the cascades-Sierra a couple of times - BUT THAT WAS 30 YEARS AGO!!! -- Now I need a bike, and these guys let me browse and ride -- then helped me put it together the way it needed to be for my use.

Staff all pretty friendly, as was EVERYONE there, from customers to hanger-outs. From the toothless old hippie guy to the stark raving 'Nuke the Mid-East' Mad-Dog Republican - ALL were courteous - Found the bike I wanted and it was CHEAP - they even helped me adjust it like it needed to be for no extra charge - I just wish it wasn't over 120 miles one way or I'd used them all the time - like I need brakes on the front - TWO WEEK WAIT HERE and "IT MIGHT TAKE US A DAY OR THREE TO GET TO IT" - I'd bet I could fix it at The Reno Bike Project this afternoon - and help get more bikes out there where they belong - being ridden and having fun!

I'd give these guys more than five starts I was SO impressed -- and while ALL their bikes are used, none are in unusable shape, and if you need help, these guys will help you fix the bike yourself so you can fix it on the road if (often when) the bike breaks down. Can't say enough good about the people, the shop, the bikes, the "Project" - I hate to go anywhere else now. New front brake pads had a cheap quote here of $25 a set (front or rear) PLUS 'Usually $45 for labor." There the brakes were $15 a pair, and zero labor because I'm a low level member. And in 20 minutes I'd have the brakes on, adjusted and working! - just can't say enough good about these guys, so I'll just end it here by saying - WOW! WHAT A SHOP!!! WHAT GOOD PEOPLE!!!!!

Rented a bike and returned it, was charged the $40 for the bike. The $500 security hold on the bike was not refunded to my account until I called my bank to dispute the charge two days later. Seems a bit ridiculous to me to have to charge 500 dollars to ensure a return on the bike. Maybe you should buy some insurance for your bikes instead, especially when you already have my card on file. Definitely will rent from somewhere else next time.

I brought my wife's bike into a local bike shop and the guy looked at it a laughed, said his minimum was $75 for a tune up plus parts. To his credit he recommenced the Reno Bike Project.. I brought the bike in and the next thing I knew I am in the back of the shop fixing her bile under the guidance of a very knowledgeable bike mechanic. I am not exactly handy, to say the least, but after an hour shared with 4 other people fixing there own bikes I walked out of there with a finely tuned bike, a little grease under my fingernails and some valuable knowledge on how to fix a bike at a fraction of the cost quoted by the bike repair shop. When I asked them how much I owed, I could not believe it was so low. Less than $10 The guy said "you can always make a donation? I gladly did..

Great experience, give them a shot.

The people that work here are always incredibly rude. They act as though they are the only humans alive who know how to work on a bike. Ever time i come in here they treat me lile this. In fact I just caught the employees pointing at me and laughing to themselves about god knows what. I would not recommend this shop to anybody spend your money where you will be respected

The ladies and gents here are passionate plus knowledgeable about biking. They are obviously in the game for the community, not just about the money. As far as my experience has been, buying a part by itself or having it installed on site is the same price. No extra fees. Quick work. On the spot.

Totally the coolest bike shop I've ever been in. Mainly used parts, all used bikes to buy, but they teach you how to tune your bike and it's dirt cheap for that and to work on your bike there. Super cool, highly recommend.

Excelent staff and great used parts for a fair price. I went there twice with flat tires and bent wheels. They help me choose the best tire tube and offered me used wheels in very good condition for a price much cheaper than new ones. I cannot be more satisfied.

I just got my tax return and wanted a mountain bike with one of those kids bike like trailers so i can help my granddaughter learn to balance. But when i entered i was ignored for more then ten minutes then when i was trying explain what i wanted i was cut off and was told i could not be helped. I didnt even get to finish my question. And the sad thing is it was the owner not some employee. Such a shame i had 800 to spend. A lot for me but not enough for the owner. I will find another local bike shop to spend my money.

Mike stopped what he was doing and greeted me when I walked in. He asked if I wanted to use their public space to work on my bike or if I wanted him to fix it. I asked him to fix it for me. He adjusted the cables and the brakes and gave me advice I needed. All for $10.
I was intimidated at first because of the neighborhood it was in and I am a novice rider and know next to nothing about bikes. I would not hesitate to go there again. Thank you Mike!

I recently had a major blowout on my front tire on my brand new Diamond Back hybrid road bike..
The tire was shredded.. I knew of this place for a while but I usually like to do my own repairs..
I walked in, they explained to me what my options were, I purchased a new set of MUCH BETTER tires, and they allowed me to do the repair myself while if I had any questions they were right there..
Best Bike Shop I have ever been to in a very long time.. They know their stuff, and unlike other shops they treat everyone with respect.. Thanks again so much!

I went in just to get a bike tire that popped replaced. A guy ther explained everything really well, replaced the tube with a high quality one, and put in two strips in both tires of this really hard plastic to keep anything from puncturing. He also adjusted my seat and explained why it would be better that way. So far have had 0 problems with my bike, and I actually go faster easier with my new seat adjustment.

Great help and guidance. After the chain I got from a national chain messed up my derailer, they helped me get and put on a new one, with a new, properly fitting chain, and new shifting and brake cables. They were patient with my daughter too.

What these friendly helpful mechanics do is awesome. I highly recommend donating your bicycle here; it will go to good use for a good cause. They sponsor events and raise funds to help those who can't easily obtain 2 wheel transport; defunct forgotten bikes are retooled, renewed, and reconditioned to ride again rather than being added to some giant landfill. Please check them out....

About Reno Bike Project

Reno Bike Project: Empowering Communities through Bicycles

Reno Bike Project is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the use of bicycles as a sustainable and affordable mode of transportation. The organization was founded in 2006 by Kyle Kozar, Noah Silverman, and Kurt Heiar with the goal of providing access to bicycles for everyone in the community.

The Reno Bike Project believes that bicycles are not just a means of transportation but also a tool for empowerment. They provide affordable bikes, repair services, and education programs to help people become more self-sufficient and independent. The organization also advocates for better infrastructure and policies that support cycling as a viable mode of transportation.

Affordable Bikes for Everyone

One of the main goals of Reno Bike Project is to make bicycles accessible to everyone regardless of their financial situation. They offer affordable bikes starting at $50 which are refurbished by their team of volunteers. These bikes are not only affordable but also environmentally friendly since they are recycled from donations or salvaged from local landfills.

In addition to selling bikes, Reno Bike Project also offers bike rentals starting at $10 per day or $40 per week. This service is perfect for tourists who want to explore the city on two wheels without having to bring their own bike.

Repair Services

Reno Bike Project has a full-service bike shop where customers can get their bikes repaired by professional mechanics at an affordable price. Their repair services include everything from basic tune-ups to complete overhauls.

The organization also offers DIY workshops where customers can learn how to fix their own bikes with guidance from experienced mechanics. These workshops are free but donations are encouraged since they help fund other programs offered by Reno Bike Project.

Education Programs

Reno Bike Project believes that education is key in promoting cycling as a viable mode of transportation. They offer various educational programs aimed at teaching people how to ride safely and confidently on city streets.

Their most popular program is called "Bike School" which teaches participants how to fix common problems on their own bike such as changing flat tires or adjusting brakes. This program is free but donations are encouraged since it helps fund other programs offered by Reno Bike Project.

Advocacy Efforts

In addition to providing access to bicycles and education programs, Reno Bike Project also advocates for better infrastructure and policies that support cycling as a viable mode of transportation in the community. They work closely with local government officials and organizations such as RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) advocating for safer streets, more bike lanes, and better public transit options that accommodate cyclists.

Conclusion

Overall, Reno Bike project has been successful in promoting cycling as an alternative mode of transportation while empowering individuals within its community through its various initiatives including offering affordable bikes starting at $50; repair services; DIY workshops; educational programs like "Bike School"; advocacy efforts towards safer streets & public transit options accommodating cyclists among others!
