Reds Meadow is an awesome place to visit, have breakfast/lunch, ride a horse, go for a hike, explore.
We stayed at Red s Meadow Resort the night before our backpacking trip and wanted to get an early start. Unfortunately the store was already closed and we needed some last minute items. The employees were very gracious and helped us get what we needed. The cabin and public restrooms were also very clean.
The hike from rainbow falls to reds meadow is only up. Bring plenty of water.
We stopped in after a hike to get waters and ice cream. The line was outrageous but they did a wonderful job of getting everyone in and out in no time. Very pleasant women who rang us up.
Friendly folks run this spot with just the amenities you need! Cabins for rent, some bunks for PCT hikers, a pack station and a restaurant for wholesome meals. There is also a general store with supplies, food, souvenirs and maps. If you're a PCT through-hiker, you can pick up your resupply box here. Short hike to Rainbow Falls and also the Devil's Postpile monument.
I was only there because I was hiking rainbow falls and devil's post pile, but it was spectacular! The weather was perfect, the location was great, not too hard of a hike!
Stayed in the motel hot shower and awesome food at the Cafe. Love the atmosphere.
An amazing natural phenomenon. This is not anywhere else. Beautiful views.
We were just there to take the bus to Devil's Post Pile. What we saw looked great.
Clean bathrooms a small store showers and laundry in 2018. Bus service as well
The station has a general store, a small cafe that serves lunch and ice cream, shower and water stations as well. Very nice and cute place for you to take a rest and get some refreshments before the hike. The bus stop is right out front so it was very convenient.
Love the cafe down there. Horses looked in good condition also
Our favorite camping area, and the resort stire, pricey but convenient
Great little Oasis pretty good food. Service was limited by only 1 waitress being on duty
Great place to grab drinks and ice cream for the kids after a long hike.
The people are amazing. I have used their services 9 times over the last 45 years. They never disappoint. We started out with 4 people and our next trip will have about 8.
If you've just completed the epic hike past Devil's Postpile in the heat of summer at high elevation, you'll appreciate being able to order a milkshake, just be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for it.
Very well eaten. Friendly staff. I recommend this restaurant, especially after a hike.
Beautiful area and nice market. Take a break and enjoy the sights and sounds
The little restaurant serves the best, huge sandwiches! Yum!
This place is awesome, get cold beers at the store and enjoy the outdoor picnic tables!
Padrisimo and relaxing for lovers of the beautiful nature place
Stopped at Red s backpacking the JMT. Opted to stay in a regular campsite rather than the backpackers camp. The campsites were nice. Facilities were very clean. Food at the cafe was very good and portions were generous. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good beer selection in store. I thought prices were kind of high but that is to be expected in such close proximity to Mammoth. Definitely would stay again.
Absolutely beautiful up here. Popped in on Devil's Postpile opening day.
I realize that this review is for the whole of the resort, but I will focus mostly on their Cafe.
Food is priced as though they think a backpacker would pay anything for a big milkshake and a burger at the end of a 25 mile hike.
And they're right.
They are extremely strict about occupancy limit, and will not allow you to order anything inside if it's too crowded. You're not allowed to order to go, and they will not allow you to take your food outside (Bear danger?). But the general store next door sells food and beer that you can take outside
We started our last segment of the John Muir Trail here in a motel room, and had breakfast on the way out. The room was perfect for our purposes. We have been here other times and like the ambiance of the place.
If you're in the Mammoth area the Devil's Postpile and Rainbow Falls is definitely worth the effort to walk to.
I am so sorry I was unable to visit you this year - hope things have calmed down for everyone and please do donate the JMT resupply bucket I shipped under the name, Melisse Morris. It contains 12 days worth of keto trail food for one person.
XOXO - Athena
Excellent stop for nobo jmt hikers. Refueled and rested for the remaining days of my hike.
Good selection of snacks/drinks staff is friendly...doggo wasn't very nice to my doggo...
The hile to falls and back is not too difficult but the altitude can get you. Enjoy a cold one at Red's upon your return.
After a long day hiking a great place for Ice cream or beer. Also if camping in valley has last minute things you might need. Yeah not big city but it's great for the middle of nowhere.
The prices are high but that's to be expected for a pack station with no other stores nearby. I paid 10.40 for a malt at the cafe. It was delicious.
Amazing coffee milkshake. You have to ask for the hiker box at the store.
Great for glamping! 5 star resort for those who don't like roughing it.
Be sure to ask for the spa specials.
The walk from the devil's postpile arrives here passing through the Rainbow falls is something very pleasant. Especially after a day in Death Valley.
Great spot to refuel on the way back from Rainbow Falls
Good food, very friendly service. Prices are high, but possibly justified by the remote location.
Sweet hot springs, but public hot springs Fed showers need to be reopened. Reinstate the hiker free bin, please! We're still going to gorge ourselves at the restaurant.
Coming off the JMT this place was easily my favorite resupply. Cafe is not the best food you've ever had but it's reasonably priced, tasty, and they let you bring in drinks from the reasonable general store next door. Plus, free wifi. Win.
Although any burger will taste awesome after 5 days on the trails, they do a great job.
Great group of folks run this place, they go above and beyond for hikers. When we had to bail from the trail because of wildfire smoke they made sure we were able to pick up our resupply bucket. Thanks Karen!
My wife and I stopped at Reds Meadow for snacks and showers on an extended raod/camping trip.
Had a great time on the 2 hour horseback ride to Rainbow Falls.
What a great rest stop! We hiked from Yosemite to Red's and were so pleased to take a hot shower, drink a cold beer and enjoy friendly faces from red's team. The cafe was like being in a four star restaurant...good food and welcoming service in a mountain cabin atmosphere. The backpackers camp ground, just 0.2 mile north was clean and had modern bathrooms.
We loved this little respite and look forward to returning.
Love Red's Meadow! Rustic and quaint. A hub for hikers and campers! Hot showers a place to wash clothes and a little cafe that serves great food. Also a pack station to rent horses to take to the trails.
Toilets, showers, cafe and general store. Great stop for those on a long hike.
It was sadly the day the Creek fire started, so it was terribly smokey. The staff was very kind and professional, the restrooms were kept very clean, their prices are not terrible (unless you get a milkshake, holy cow, $15 a pop, but very yummy)
Great scenery lots of trees and you won't find any better people
Great experience!! Wrangler's were helpful and full of information!! I highly recommend !
Great pace to stay in the inyo National Forest, hiking and horses back riding.
So helpful as we were trying to navigate during Covid and closures. Great place for backpackers.
Nice place and 2 good walks to rainbow falls and devil's tower
I can't remember his name but he knew more about the trail I was about to backpack than the ranger. He gave me some sage advice which saved my trip.
Really awesome place if you are thru-hiking. Only open when it's not winter season. You can buy burgers ($13 for double cheeseburger if I recall correctly) at the cafe that closes at 7pm. You can do laundry ($3.75 in quarters to wash and dry). You can also shower ($5 for 5 min). The laundry and shower place remains unlocked but you need to get tokens from the general store that closes at 7 pm I think.
Very hike friendly place! The store and restraunt are great! They also have wifi at the store if you ask!
Great place to get supplies you might have forgotten especially if you are camping i. One of the nearby campgrounds and dont want to frive up to the city.
Trail ride to Rainbow Falls was fantastic! Nice guides, healthy horses, beautiful scenery
We popped by the General Store for some drinks and snacks after a nice long hike to Rainbow Falls.
Hiker's heaven: showers, cold coke, burgers and milkshakes, hikers' supply stash
Super helpful staff. General store was nice. The horseback ride was enjoyable.
Beautiful! My wife and daughter took a horse back ride, everyone was wonderful. Their guide was awesome and helped talk my scared daughter into getting on and taking the ride. Perfect day, thank you!
The milkshakes & food items are great. The showers could be better...
After a long hike the lunch special hit the spot! The camping was a little pricey for a thru hiker, but the hot springs were a surprise ! Get those hot tubs back up and running!
The trail to rainbow falls is great. However during summer, the trail is dry and hot since most of the trees got burned during 1992 forest fire. Make sure to carry a lot of water bottles!
