Wonderful place beautiful area loved the horse back riding.
Wonderful place beautiful area loved the horse back riding.
Cafe is dine in only, it got crowded in the afternoon from everyone returning from hiking to rainbow falls. And the milkshakes are $10.10! Pretty pricey but no other food place nearby
Beautiful location outside of town with a cafe, convenience store, showers for campers, a bus stop, & horseback riding.
Nice general store and eatery. Perfect reward for finishing off a hike.
If it's late in the day, you might need to wait a bit to find space in the bus for the ride out of the valley.
Great simple hike is to start from Devil's Postpile, hike to Rainbow Falls, and finish it off at Red's Meadow resort for a semi-easy hike.

If your a Hiker looking for something more comfortable than a tent this is for you. If you are on vacation then this is not for you. We paid nearly $800 for 3 nights to stay in a wooden cabin that when you opened the front door you got a great view of the restrooms (toilets). There was no guide or instructions.
We were 2 couples and unfortunately my wife and I got the short straw of sleeping upstairs (I say stairs, more like a ladder), due to the shape of the building you could not stand up straight and our cases had to stay downstairs. If I had rolled out of bed I would have fallen straight down to the kitchen area with nothing to stop me.
The kitchen area came with a small sofa suitable for 2 people and a table with 4 chairs which was pushed to the side with the chairs stacked up as there was not enough room to have it permanently set up for meals.
Our first night we arrived and thought it would be nice to have a BBQ and so we visited the store to get some supplies a big mistake. The store is set up for hikers and not people who are on vacation so things like charcoal, milk, bread or fresh supplies are not available but had a great supply of dried foods.
I accept the location close to Rainbow falls and Devil Postpile is ideal for great walks but the standard of accommodation really does not justify the cost. Stay in a local hotel/motel and drive up daily.
The accommodations were absolutely amazing and really friendly staff, just everything was way over priced I get that they have to bring stuff in but there are way more remote backcountry lodges in the Sierra and this place really takes advantage of you, but is also an extremely nice place to stop and eat after a long hike !
woman behind the counter clearly isn't hiker friendly and made that clear to me when i asked her about the campground.. this is supposed to be a very hiker friendly place...
This is a great place situated in one of the most beautiful places in the USA .
Nice quiet place but if taking car go before 7 am or after 6 pm. Recommend to take their local bus
This place has a general store that has a wide variety of beer, camping stuff, snacks, etc. The guy ringing you up has 0 personality and threw my card back at me because apparently I was supposed to swipe it myself. I didnt go to the cafe, though the menu showed they had different sandwiches, grilled cheese, hamburgers, etc. They had a laundry room, showers, and bathrooms of course. No one was by the horses so I dont know if that was opened or not. This was part of bus stop 10 for the shuttle where they take you to different parts of the area including Rainbow Falls and Devils Postpile.
Me and my 8 yr old daughter did a 4 hr horse ride up the mountain to the red cones. Our wrangler Max was exceptional! It was our first time horseback riding and Max extremely mindful and attentive to my daughter. He was very knowledgeable about the area, environment and history. We could tell he genuinely ejoyed working with horses. Our sweet horses Babe and Bodie were well mannered, gentle and so careful when climbing up and down the mountain trail. We are extremely happy with our horseback ride and would highly recommend Reds Meadow Pack Station and our wrangler Max. Thank you!
