Although the clothing selection was great I can agree with everyone the customer service was not! I had my credit card run twice because the first time the cashier "forgot" to ring up all of the items (honest mistake) and what ended up happening (after I checked my bank statement) I got charged twice. Yeah it may not be a big deal but overpaying an extra $25 for no reason doesn't really make me feel great.

Yes, I did contact the place the next day asking to see if anything could be done to fix this... no response and it has been 5 days.

Clothes are great but the service sucks!

This place is great place to sell vintage or one of a kind items. The definition of vintage is twenty years or older. Found this one of a kind purse. And this summers "have to have it" clout glasses!!

They didn't know what they would find in here, but that's what made it all the more exciting, colors and fabrics funk Indy music a girl with an ear piercing. They wonder around and then exit.

I had recently sold vintage items to Red Light. They were great to work with. I have more items to sell and red light will be my first choice to sell to. Thanks red light, you are awesome.

I had a valuable item disappear from my bag when I left it with the counter person to shop around. Employees and management denied it ever happening, even though I walked out of the store and immediately found it missing. Really sketchy and horrifying experience.

Highly overrated. The selection is horrible, the stuff in the men's section was really faded and old, not something that you would expect to last long. Staff were not very nice, and actually seemed very condescending.

This place is vintage heavens. I've been to a bunch of other re-sale shops but this one is almost exclusively vintage stuff. Be prepared to dig. Prices were super reasonable, I really liked this place.

Would not recommend. Terrible customer service. Bought a gift that did not fit another person. They did not even take off the security tag. Had nothing to exchange. Only offerrd a 30% refund to sell them back. What a joke.

I just purchased an item from this store. I get very uncomfortable bc I could tell that the saleswoman was following me around the store. She made it extremely obvious!! I won't return...its just sad that she could follow me around yet never asked me if I needed assistance with anything.

I have never been in any store that literally within the first three minutes have I felt more unwelcomed. Resulting in wanting to turn right around and leave. The worker with the yellow mullet specifically at the door was so unbelievably rude and rolled their eyes upon our entrance and clearly looked us up and down. I have been a vintage collector for over 25 years. I have no desire to return to this business regardless of their actual apparel selection. It's not okay to treat others that way! I wish I could say it's the first I've heard of this place accepting that behavior from their employees. They are truly costing this business money with the false sense of entitlement over YOUR potential customers. I hope it gets better.

tldr: they don't have clothing for women in between a large and plus size.
IIreally love their clothing, and would love to support them, but they are not inclusive with their sizing. They don't carry much outside of S-L, and their plus size is too big for anything in between.

The clothes are super cute but the workers there are the worst I've ever witnessed. They are so rude and glare at customers looking around. When my friends and I first entered, one of my friends was eating and the worker rudely shouted at us that there was no food allowed. We totally understood and came back when she was done with her food, but the worker was visibly angry that we returned. I'm glad other people agree with me about the workers, and I pray they get new workers very soon, or investigate the poor attitudes of staff.

I would rate this 0 stars if I could. THEY DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT OUR STUFF after we waited around!!! We came to offer some clothing to sell. They were rude, brash and uninviting. After waiting an hour, they said they didn't want any of our things. (I bought many things from red light months ago that they didn't take back) Then we opened up our bags and found them folded exactly the way we fold them in the same order, untouched, unopened, unchanged. disrespectful of our time and energy. Vote with your money. Do not shop here!!! This place is not the same as it used to be.

Okay selection but didnt find anything i wanted. Items were reasonably priced but the two employees at the dressing room area made me uncomfortable. One was subtle with her rudeness by dramatically avoiding eye contact with me. I didnt say anything wrong, i said thank you regardless. She talked to my friend in a very snarky way saying, "ugh can you move?". And the other employee she talked to just made contemptuous faces at me in passing. I am by no means a sensitive portland type woman but this bothered me.

Get people with better customer service skills and youd be golden.

What an awful experience. The customer service was horrific! Not only were they rude but they didn't take any of the clothes we brought...why not make that clear on their website? The way they made it sound they took all kinds of clothing...NEVER will I go back there! I guess we were just not wearing the right clothes. Kind of makes me laugh that people who want others to accept them for who they are don't accept me for being a middle class 'normal' girl...whatever!

If you want a flash back shopping experience, this store is a gem. Onto of most items being high priced, there are some ridiculous garments and really nice gems all mixed into a loud, energized environment. If you re looking to have fun reliving stylish epochs of the 1900s, you won t be disappointed.

Employees there were rude to me and my friends: got yelled at for laughing too loud(?) And trying on a jacket outside of a fitting room. Wayyy overpriced for used clothes Haha they're really capitalizing on the thrifting trend. Smells weird

I love the clothes they have. But to sell to them is a joke. I have gone in there 2x to drop off clothes to try to sell and both times they didn't even look through my stuff. They just told me it would be a few minutes and to look around. I did just that. Come back 15 minutes later and I found my bag sitting in the coral waiting for me. I looked in my bag and it was exactly how I left it with them. They did not look even though they say they did supposedly. It's a waste of time. I'm not going to bother giving them money if they won't give me the time of day.

One of Hawthorne Street Gems if you're looking for a vintage one-of-a-kind this is the first place to look and if you would like to sell vintage items this will be the place to start in PDX

It's a second hand store, it is bound to smell like grandma's house or a cardboard box that you find with someone living in it. That being said, this place is the bee knees. We found some affordable, stylish garb in good condition for goodwill prices. If I had given this place a lower rating, that would be like me going to an expensive restaurant and complaining about the prices. While I do mention the prices in my review, I typically only reference them concerned to value and this place has value. Why are you spending twice as much at wal*mart?

I went the red light to sell a few items. Which were all in new condition except for one skirt, but that was still in great condition. The dress that i was selling had never been worn and it was worth a little more than $237 brand new. Typically at consignment shops and thrift stores if something is in new condition the will sell it in there stores for 50% of the actual retail price. So that means they would sell the dress for lets say $115 and their policy is that they give you 35% of what they are selling if for. That means i should have gotten $40 for that one dress. I also sold two skirts. One that was brand new. Never worn. Retail valued at $175 50% of $175 is about $87. 35% of $87 is about $30. So that's $70 i should have gotten so far. That's only 2 items. I had 3 more items that i was selling. All of the items that I was selling were well known brand names like Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty, and Jump from paper. I sold them 2 angelic pretty skirts, a peacoat from an offbrand shop, a baby the stars shine bright dress, and a jump from paper purse. They gave me $36 for everything i sold, and they didn't give me the chance to decline their offer. Did i want to sell all of those things for that amount? Heck no. I do not recommend selling to them, or buying from them. Everything is over priced.

I really wanted to like this place I ve been following their Instagram for ages and the style is right up my alley but when I finally had time to check it out I was so disappointed to find out that roughly 80% of all the women s clothing was size small. They had no plus sizes and the regular large size racks were abysmal. I would absolutely love to support this place but I can t if you only cater to one size.

Great selection of vintage clothes! The only issue about Red Light is that the prices on some of the items, that have a considerable amount of wear, are just as pricey as items that are almost brand new. But overall I still love going here.

Every time I come here the service is horrible. The staff is unhelpful, unprofessional, and sometimes straight up rude. There is an extremely strong condescending and "better-than-you" vibe as soon as you walk in the door and are haughtily greeted by the cashier. When I brought my clothes up to the selling table the person working there was very terse, and acted like I was stupid for not knowing the process for selling with them even though it was my first time selling there. They ripped my bags, and were similarly demeaning when I didn't know how to pick up my unsold clothes or collect my in store credit. The woman explained that she was off the clock which "apparently no one else knew" and that she was done and "tapped out." She and a coworker made fun of another customer behind her back for accidentally tearing a dress while trying it on. All in all, an exhausting experience for an ok clothing selection, and ridiculously high prices.

I live a couple blocks away from this place, and despite multiple attempts, have never successfully purchased anything from them.

Every time I have tried, I have been promptly reminded that every employee that I have EVER come into contact with has been categorically and objectively the worst. And not in the same way, their awfulness is manifold. Sometimes it is weird, unprompted passive aggression, sometimes it is outright disgust, often it is blatant apathy and disregard. One time it was just someone behind the counter refusing to stop dancing for long enough to allow me to check out.

Honestly, it is impressive to me that they remain in business despite the fact that every employee appears to have been told that their primary goal is not, in fact to sell clothing to customers, but rather to make them feel bad for having had the gall to enter the store in the first place.

Luckily, there are a number of other fantastic consignment stores nearby. I would suggest Buffalo Exchange, or Crossroads Trading, or even the nearby Goodwill Boutique. Their selection isn't great, but you won't leave feeling like you're a bad person. And at the end of the day I think that's more important.

They sometimes have some nice stuff here, and it's well-organized, which really helps. That said, there's not that much that appeals to me personally and the nice things are often a little overpriced.

Fashion at its best. Some spending money...others making it, and who wouldnt want to make some extra cash selling your super cool used clothes to a super sexy skinny bearded man with a sence of style thats like candy for my eyes. Yes please...The Red Light rubs me the right way.

I like to holiday shop here to find quirky, fun scarves or outfits. The prices you get for selling items is subjective to who is working that day, as is the way one is treated at any of the counters. Some staff are friendly, some are rude. Don't shop here in a hurry. You never know if the people at the counter will be too busy talking to each other to help you, or will pick their friends or favorite customers out of the line to help first, leaving you waiting. Once a year is all I can handle the suspense of not knowing how I will be treated.

Fantastic clothes very boring stuff with silly attitude .they run out carrier bag and told me to carry the all my shopping ( at least 6 piece ) by hand . When I told them I'm a visitor & don't ever have car to drive plus I wanted to walk around they were not helpful . One even reply it's good to earth to not have a bag as it was the issue. I would not give my money there again .

Cashier was extremely rude, and just had a bad attitude. We walked in at 5:10pm, the store was supposed to close at 6 (according to the sign and google). We browsed for a few minutes, with multiple other people in store. The cashier tells everyone the store is closing in 10 minutes. We continued to take a few final glances before getting ready to leave, then the cashier rudely says "Everybody out. We're closed." Only a minute or two after his first announcement. The store overall just had an unwelcoming appeal.

Customer service is the worst I have ever seen. I've been there many times and every time am greeted by one rude cashier or another. When I asked a question about where the dresses were, the cashier sighed VERY obviously, and made it seem as though it was SUCH an inconvenience to show me where they were. And when he could FINALLY drag himself away from his all-important business of doing nothing but glaring around the store, he took me to the far wall and quickly pointed to a selection of PANTS, saying "there are the dresses". He then left me there, and I finally found the dresses on the opposite side of the store. The next and last time I went there, I found a hat that I REALLY REALLY wanted. However, it was on display and therefor not for purchase. It would be available the next week, when I would be out of town. I asked the cashier if she could please reserve it, and she said she would but only if I paid in advance. I did. HowEVER, when I returned to my trip, I found the hat that I had drooled over for weeks had been BOUGHT. Furious, I told the same girl that I had reserved the hat with that I had ASKED FOR IT TO BE RESERVED and asked where it went. She replied "first come first served" and refused to refund my money. NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN!!! DONT GO TO RED LIGHT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE BELITTLED AND CONDESCENDED BY THEIR DISHONEST EMPLOYEES!!!

Great selection, high quality items and a really nice vibe. The prices are kind of hit and miss depending on the item, sometimes they're great and really reasonable and other times they're overpriced. Last time I went in they were burning some pretty pungent incense which I personally didn't mind, but it would definitely bother someone who is sensitive to that kind of thing.

First time going and I had an awful experience. The staff was extremely rude. The woman at the dressing room was rolling her eyes at my friends and was not being helpful or friendly whatsoever. When I went to buy something I greeted the cashier saying, "Hi how are you?" and she looked at me in the eye and kept ringing me up like I hadn't even said anything. Made me feel very unwelcomed and not very willing to buy their OVERPRICED merchandise. I will not be going back again and definitely will not refer this store to others.

shop here often, great if you just want a fun new item to spice up your wardrobe, or costume piece. yea the staff couldnt care less about you but tbh people go there a lot to look not buy, so i can imagine they can get fed up with the people who come to hang on hawthorne. they never buy my clothes but who says they have to ?

Fun, Funky, Freaky, Cheap! Need an ugly sweater for Xmas? They got you covered! Need a fishnet bodysuit? Need fuzzy platform shoes? Some Elton John-esqe sunglasses? Sequins and taffeta galore! This place is a real treasure trove of new, used, shiny, gaudy, knit, furry, and weird finds.

Went in today with a friend....not too impressed. They wanted $20 or more for old used t-shirts that I could get at other local thrift shops in town for under $5.....I don't understand the need to mark up old used clothing?? Won't be back.

Good selection, but the women's plus size section can be stagnant. Perfect spot for shirts and earrings and though, ans the staff is always kind and patient with the large amount of customers that are always there.

Tried to sell some clothes here, despite what it says on here and on their website I was told in store that they ONLY take vintage clothing- 20 years or older. Which is ridiculous because if you look around there is plenty of modern stuff in the store AND several items in my bags were actually from this store and they wouldn t even buy their own merchandise. Total scam...

I think they re closing? There s a huge building for sale sign on the top of the building, so I m guessing they re going out of business. I can t really tell though, because I called 7 times and no one answered. What s the point of having a phone if your staff isn t going to answer it? Their Instagram page isn t updated, neither is their website. So if I show up to Hawthorne in a few weeks and they re not there, it didn t really seem like they made any effort to keep it open.

The stroppiest cashier I've dealt with! Completely unhelpful and rude when asked about a piece of clothing displayed in the window. A tall slim fella with black hair. Save your breath and head to House of Vintage!

The management must have changed, because I was treated rudely by two employees over the price of a t-shirt. The cashier dismissed me when I pointed out the shirt was not, as they insisted, made in the 1970s (the character on the shirt was COPYRIGHTED in the 1970s, the shirt itself was more likely made in the 90s based on the design), and if it was not a huge factor in the price I wouldn't have pointed it out (they insisted the price was more because it was allegedly from the 1970s and even insisted that it 'should be priced higher'). They snapped at me that if I wanted to 'debate the price ' to talk to the exchange counter. I got dismissed there too without even finishing my sentence. I ended up paying 18 dollars for a shirt that should have been 12 or 14.

I love this store, but if I treated customers at my retail job the way I had been treated by the employees, I would be in serious trouble.
