The County could certainly do a LOT that they are not doing now. They need to appropriate funds and programs that will support education and spay/neuter. They need to be proactive rather than reactive. They spend so much money running the shelter who spends money killing animals and then take in more animals and kill more animals.. Why don't they fund spay neuter programs so that there are fewer dogs and cats. Educate the public on the importance of pet responsibility. Pet overpopulation is the major problem because people are ignorant and don't have an incentive to spay/neuter. Make licensing fees for both dogs and cats very high if they are not spayed or neutered and then fund low cost spay neuter so it is less expensive for people to spay/neuter than it is to get a high cost license. ENFORCE the law. There are thousands of communities throughout the nation who have implemented programs and laws that have reduced and in some case eliminated the euthanasia of adoptable animals. Call you county legislators and tell them you want considerably more money being directed at preventing the problem so they don't have to spend more money putting a bandaid on the problem.

Well it's difficult to figure out how to rate this place. I mean, it's extremely tragic that this is a kill shelter and animals die here because of selfish people who breed and dump their pets. I'm giving this place a good rating for several reasons. One, there are so many beautiful animals here. They need homes. Please go there and look at them before you buy an animal. You may meet your next best friend there. Secondly, I've had an experience where the warden helped me pull a dog off of death row that was considered unadoptable and thanks to him the dog is safe and happy. I believe that the warden really does care for animals and is a good guy who has a very difficult job. I hope that one day all shelters will be no kill. To reach this goal, people must stop impulse buying animals and then dumping them off when they are not convienant to their lifestyle. A pet is a lifetime commitment not a stuffed animal to be tossed aside. The breeding must stop. Spay and neuter your pets. Remember that animals are not on this Earth to amuse us or serve us. They are sentient individuals with feelings and they deserve respect. Adopting an animal from this shelter can save their life and enrich your own. Pictures are of the dog we saved from there.

We adopted our Wiley from here. I had never adopted before and was nervous but they made the whole process quick and easy. They even included all kinds of supplies and toys for him. If I adopt again, I would go here. (Update: Bringing Wiley into our home was the best decision we ever made!! This guy is so loved but more importantly, has brought so much love to us! Thank you RCAC!)

My experience is that MURDERING a healthy animal less than an hour after arriving at the location....with no attempt to give the owner a chance to find their pet is a shameful, low-grade, dishonorable act. I hope more people flood your facility with VERY VERY NEGATIVE publicity and FIRE the manager! I know that job can't be easy.....but come the heck on guys!!! Who are you selling too for that profit?????

I spoke with two women over at animal control and one was very soft spoken and polite, her name was Ashley, the other woman whose name was Tammy, was very abrasive and rude and treated me as if I was on trial instead of the person I reported as a dog abuser. This Tammy would be better suited for a behind the scenes role in the department rather than dealing with people whom she has no skills for.I got off the phone feeling angry and belittled.

Had a fantastic experience here when adopting my new puppy. I had multiple phone calls leading up to meeting and adopting my dog, and they were so helpful and patient with all my questions. Their facility is very nice, and all of their staff truly care about their jobs and the animals. I'm so happy they were able to bring me and my new best friend together.

If I could give a 0, I would. Nice to see I didn t have to explain my reasoning for a bad review because that s all that s here. Knowledgeable and respectable staff means a lot and that s where they lack.

Be warned that when they say they dont euthenise they mean they dont euthenise the animals they see fit for adoption. This was not clearified for me and i unknowingly sent a cat there thinking it would be safe. I was wrong. Be warned if youre thinking about sending an animal there

They break the law continuously and kill 70 percent of the animals they intake. They've been responsible for several wrongful deaths of dogs in the past few years and desperately need new management. By all means please save an animal from here but NEVER surrender here or call them to pick up an animal because chances are it will die before even having the chance to be adopted out.

Pretty horrific how they don't even give animals a chance and just euthanize. They killed a litter of kittens we found behind our house... all were docile with humans. Kittens had a chance, unfortunately they just weren't given one. The animal control officer tried to guilt trip our neighbors into keeping the kittens telling them they would kill them, and that they did. However, the animal control officer did not get the mother cat and told us"it wasn't his job". What is your job? What is the animal "shelters" job exactly then? Killing? Disgusted. Feel sorry for the animals who have to endure this torture.

My mother is going through some hard times and needed help. She lost everything her job her house, her pets even had to go. 2 dogs and 2 cats. Before i could help it was to late. She took them to the shelter and begged to please have all the animals adopted they all were up to date on shots and they were the sweetest cats you can ever imagine. The lady there specifically told her she promises that she will do her best to get them adopted. But when i call the next day to see if they were still around they had put both my cats to sleep. They didnt even try to get them adopted. I re adopted my dogs and got them out of there as fast as possible. I will never recommend the place to anybody.

Drove from several counties away to adopt a dog, arrived 20 minutes early to find out that the dog had allegedly fought with two other dogs and therefore could not adopt. The bio on the dog has still not changed and it states the dog gets along with other dogs.???

Not even deserving of 1 star and would give it negative stars if possible. It's my understanding that this place arbitrarily euthanizes animals in even less than an hour of arrival! Are you kidding me? And the director's excuse is that he needs to protect the public from rabies? So, you euthanize a dog wearing a collar that is obviously someone's pet - again, in less than an hour? Your own local ordinance requires that animals be held a minimum of 72 hours. PLUS you don't allow animal rescue organizations to come in to save animals? Sickening. Should be shut down. Oh, and by the way, remember your hard-earned tax dollars are going to pay the director's salary.

We adopted our husky/eskimo mix from them 4 months ago. She was named Regina from them but we changed her name to Ashe. She is my best friend (besides my husband). She did not work out with her previous adopters and I'm thankful because we got to adopt her and give her a loving home. She's been such a joy and we found out she's more husky than eskimo! I would chose them over Davies county in Mocksville any day! They were super fast in responding to our application and we got to take her home the same day.
