Ramada Plaza Beach Resort & Destin West Vacations Review

Fun place for the family. Great for kids. The splash pad was awesome, our 2.5 year old loved it! The lazy river was relaxing. The zero-entry pool made it easy and fun for my son to play on his own. A few issues though - it is not a very stroller/wagon-friendly resort. It was VERY difficult to get to the Bayside with our stroller. There are no ramps and we had to go down the elevator, switch elevators, then go back up in order to get to the correct spot to enter the pool area. Then, there s no way to get to the pool deck with a stroller unless you lift it up and down the stairs.... poor poor design for a family-friendly resort! There was a handicap lift but you needed a security guard key to use it. How inconvenient! Also, the baby pool on the gulf side was great, but it should have a canopy. It s in full sun all day long, from 9am on. The other BIG issue i had was the fact that the resort is a Smoking resort. You can t smoke in the rooms, but you can smoke everywhere else and that was horrible! People were smoking EVERYWHERE. How am i supposed to enjoy time with my young children around all that nasty smoke...not to mention the trashiness of those who are usually smoking. (Sorry, not sorry). Our neighbors were smoking all day, everyday, which made it impossible to use and enjoy our own patio on our vacation. Smokers by the pool too. Just YUCK.This aspect will play a huge role in whether or not we return. We went at the end of August and it was not crowded at all. It was very nice and quiet, plenty of space for everyone and no worries about not finding a chair by the pool.

We loved Destin West! The amenities were a dream for my kids--especially the lazy river. Our condo had a couple of things that needed fixing (the tub wasn't draining correctly) and maintenance was there within 2 hours to fix it. The condo wasn't fancy, but was bigger than I thought from the pictures and worked great for our family of 5. It was a pricey stay for us, but was a great location!

Nice place. Pools are nice. Rooms are nice. Staff is friendly. Located really good and connected on both sides of the road by a sky bridge.

+2 Stars - The Amenities. Beach access, Lazy River, Pools, Spa & Free Tubes! :D
+1 Star - For the Views. We got a corner apartment facing the beach and it was amazing! The Sun Rises were amazing.
+1 Star - Good Location. Almost everything is at a walking distance. Place is surrounded by activities and eateries.
Minus 1 Star - The Bathrooms don't lock! Room service sucks.

The facilities are above average, but the place is crowded, including the beach. The personnel are scripted and if you as for anything special you will be put on hold and then you request will be denied. The place is had to navigate and spread out. If you are expecting a luxury experience you will be disappointed even in the best suites or condos. We will not be repeating this experience. Note: luxury prices without a luxury experience!

Good place to spend weekend or Vacation time, good beach and all facilities you can expect in one location.

It's nice, pool rules are annoying. Can't float in the lazy river or relax in the pool with a drink.

The condo was cute and clean and had everything we needed. The beach was so beautiful and we also enjoyed the lazy river. We would definitely go back!

I love this place during my stay I had the opportunity to stay on both the bay and ocean sides and it's hard to choose. I loved room service, the pool the lazy river and even the parking garage for the condos on the ocean side. I could park at the top and walk right over to my place. The 2 story condos with the jacuzzi on top is insanely awesome.

This was our first time staying in this area. The rooms are in dare need of updating, the best part of our stay was the lazy river. We are 100% ocean people, we were delighted to hear the beach chairs came with our stay. Out of 2 weeks we used them for 2 hours!!! They were very uncomfortable to say the least! We try to make the most of every vacation, however, Within a few days we were ready to head home or find another place to stay. We had to call security several times due to the noise evernight between the hours (11:00-3:00). We later found out they were remodeling a room above us. Moral of the story, stay somewhere else. I do not see where all the hype is coming from.

Stayed gulf side with gulf view. Totally worth the extra $. Saw dolphins every day from the porch. Some rooms come with free beach umbrellas and chairs saving you loads of money. Much more relaxed location than Destin just a few miles away. Bay side has an awesome lazy river that you can visit even if you stay gulf side.

Visited during July 2020, everyone was very considerate and kept a good distance from one another. The pool areas where regularly disinfected. All the restaurants, arcades and fun centers had good precautions in place.

Floor was dirty. Feet was black.
Ice maker wasn't working.
No keuric coffe maket.

We stayed on the gulf side in room 403. It was just my husband and I, but could have fit up 2 more guests comfortably. We loved this condo. It was beautifully decorated and the view from our balcony was amazing! We totally want to stay here again.

Even though we didn't get our internet right away, this place is very nice and the people at the desk are really helpful. Very satisfied of this place. Will definitely come back!

Overall a very pleasant place to stay. The pools are great, and that was my/my families primary interest. However, the unit we stayed in, while adequate in most ways - had not been cleaned well at all. The floors were so dirty that our feet were black within minutes. You could feel the grit/dirt. It was obvious that the cleaning crew had merely pushed a dirty mop, with dirty bleach water, around on the floor - but didn't make the effort to clean the floor. Given that you're being charged a $95.00 cleaning fee upon entry - that seems unforgivable.

Very well maintained property that has lots to offer families!

We had so much fun! This is a very family friendly place. Everyone can be entertained from baby to grandma and grandpa! My big kids loved the lazy river and my littlest loved the beachy pool area where you can walk in. The gym is fantastic and the beach is clean and so very beautiful! We will be back one day!

Perfect location! The grounds and pools were well kept. The only thing I can say negative is that the doors into the condo and to the balcony were needing some attention. It was a struggle to get them to latch and lock,which
was a little annoying, but we made it work. Our favorite things were the lazy river, Rockin Tacos on the boardwalk and of course the views of the bay from the balcony. We stayed in The Pelican building #602. Overall a great experience and would definitely stay here again.

Great location right on the ocean with a great white sand beach, several pools very well maintained & clean. Each of the rooms are individually owned, our family has been staying in the same one for five years. That's how much we enjoy it. Also it's not near as crowded as the beaches in Destin & traffic is better also.

We are driving home from our 5th summer spent staying at Destin West 4 out of 5 times staying in #507. You can't beat the lazy river and walk in pool especially for smaller kids. The amenities are awesome with the splash pad near the Ramada. We always shop at near by Publix for groceries. I will never stay anywhere other than here when visiting Destin.

If I could give no stars I would. We encountered some severe problems with our stay to name a few here were dirty stained linens and furniture, mold in bedrooms and bathrooms, and a severe cockroach infestation. The unit was terrible and very unfit for anyone much less my young children one of which had a severe allergy to mold and was affected almost immediately with symptoms. The home owners association inspected the unit after our complaint and confirmed our findings including dead cockroaches and droppings which they said indicated the cleaning personnel did not do their job.

In addition, my father in law had to have a cockroach surgically removed from his ear before so imagine my concern when a child is complaining of an earache. We left and were only refunded for the nights we didn't stay not the night we had all the problems. We were offered a 1 bedroom unit in the same complex, or a partial refund after much frustration. We chose the partial refund and tried to speak to the manager about getting a full refund but we were told he was busy. We paid for a 2 with bunkroom and after all the problems we encountered we felt compelled to leave.

I begged for all our money back especially since we would have to pack up everything, find somewhere else to stay last minute, and with all the problems we had making it not a vacation or decent stay by any means plus the fact that I am scared that we have brought cockroaches into our luggage and vehicle. They were everywhere in the unit. It was sickening.

I have two children still suffering from allergy issues from the mold and I can still smell the terrible smell of the condo in our luggage. I had to clean the unit and wash the linens prior to our children staying in it and then when we arrived at a different resort I had to clean all our belongings to rid the moldy smell.

If this was not enough where are out of pocket so much more right now because we had to pay more on a condo and we will not be refund any of the cost for the rental unit for 7-10 days. I feel like we should be given more considering the hardships we have encountered.

I loved the Lazy River and the access to the bay. And it's kinda cool that there isn't any interaction with any staff, except the guys at the pool who make sure you are actually a guest. It was clean, the condo felt homey, and they even provide beach toys,and umbrellas. I thought the place was beautiful and it wasn't too touristy.
