You'd be hard-pressed to find lower-quality ice skate rentals in the Triangle. The boots were missing hooks and their laces didn't even have aglets. Better hope the person who rented before you didn't pull the laces out of their holes or you're in for a treat.
The rink itself wasn't that bad, but the music started skipping and went on for about five minutes before anyone fixed it. Yes, I mean skipping, like with a CD player. I guess they couldn't be bothered to update their sound system in the past decade since MP3 players became a thing.
The real cherry on top of this entire experience was that I discovered, after getting my sneakers back from the skate rental and heading back home, was that there were two large gashes in the side of the shoe heels. I don't know how that happened--maybe they dropped some skate blades on my shoes or rubbed my shoes in the tracks where they keep the skates--but I know those gashes weren't there when I handed my sneakers in.
The only way I'd come back here is with my own pair of ice skates and some headphones to listen to my own music.
