I have been a LOYAL tenant here for 2-years at Bix...

I have been a LOYAL tenant here for 2-years at Bixby Knolls Apts.! I've NEVER paid my rent late and, IN FACT, have paid my rent MONTHS in advance on occasions. I've never had a problem here, until today! My lease ends on 3/31/2016 and I'm moving to another property. My security deposit was $1,420 and I thought that maybe I would get back about $1,200 based on whatever they decided was fair to keep to cover anything. Mind you, I am a VERY clean tenant and did not foresee much being deducted from my Security deposit. However, once maintenance did my walk-through, they came up with a figure of $547.61 to withhold for things like:

1. Painting
2. Cleaning Unit
3. Cleaning Blinds
4. Cleaning Carpet
5. Refinishing Kitchen Counter (the laminate counter top that has NORMAL wear and tear from 2-years of cooking and cleaning!)

I would BYPASS this Rental Company! They may seem nice, but the price of the units and the games they play with your security deposit is NOT worth the headache. I've attempted to help them understand my concerns, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. I don't think this is a way to treat GOOD tenants who've lived here for 2+ years.

I have already filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs and plan on filing a suit, should they not refund more of my deposit for these absurd charges.

Do not do business with R W Selby. While they have a nice sounding name, they have no other redeemable qualities. I regret the day I signed a lease with this company. They are greedy and careless. There are better landlords out there. Avoid them if you can.

As RW Selby fraudulently advertised their San Diego location as an Avalon property for several months, and still has no local listing, this review is for anyone considering living in an RW Selby owned property.

Management is profoundly incompetent. Safety and security violations, which were reported and documented to management, went uncorrected for months. No notice was sent to the community alerting them to emergency exits locking residents into common areas. No notice was sent to residents notifying them of two security doors remaining broken for months, allowing anyone from Friars Rd. access to the building without a key fob.

No notice is ever sent to residents when fire alarms falsely go off. No notice is given to residents when garage doors are inaccessible. No notice is given to residents when vehicles are broken into.

The living experience has degraded considerably since RW Selby assumed ownership. It is constantly filthy, unsanitary, loud, mismanaged, and routinely has broken handicap doors, elevators, and garage doors - in every instance none of these broken services are communicated to the community.

Maintenance is incompetent. The building is dirty and unsafe. Management is utterly useless. It is priced astronomically above its market value and provides nothing close to a luxury living experience.

There are literally hundreds of better places to live in Mission Valley, let alone the surrounding San Diego area. Do not get involved with this company and certainly do not live in one of their properties.

I live at Rochester Apartments in Westwood and have loved my experience so far, I am attending UCLA and live with a roommate. It's a nice walk to campus, I love how its not right next to class so I have privacy too!

Review for one of your properties below. Playa Summit.

Building is okay, apartments are pretty - that`s it. Paper-thin walls won`t let you function during the day, sleep at night and leaf blowers will make sure to wake you up early in the morning everyday including weekends.

However, this is not the worst of it all. The worst is management - absolutely arrogant senior management. I wish I have never dealt with it. I own a moped scooter that was tried to be stolen twice from the garage downstairs. Seeking help from Jorge Gonzalez (have no idea what his title is but he seems to be main guy there) was the biggest mistake I could make. Instead of showing patience, understanding or sympathy he started screaming at me and my wife. Waving hands in front of our faces and when I tried to talk, he simply left without finishing conversation.

Next day he would gossip to all employees including security talking different staff about us. That is not behavior of a man, even kids in pre-school don`t do that.

The rest of the staff is okay and some are even super awesome. They know who I am talking about. However, this , I really can`t say gentleman, will try to make you miserable if you ever try to seek help.

Oh yeah, also there was an assault to an older gentleman in a building across us by his roommate and we now starting to doubt on how they admit residents here.

Thats`s it. Simple and easy just objective feedback on the last 2 days.

I thought I was blessed when I was offered a job with RW.Selby I initially wanted the leasing position but was offered the assistant manager position. After 35 days of being micro managed and talk to in front of residents and staff like I was a child I spoke up. The following week I got a write up saying I was rude and had poor leasing volosity.. Go figure!
I sent a email to her boss about the problem and the write he never reached out or responded! Prior to getting hired i told the manger I need a few days off as my child is graduating college she said no problem to my surprise it really was! I've worked in HR before, I will play the fool but I'm not by far she knows she is the one to approve the time off as it is stated in their employee handbook. She told me I have to put in a vacation request 60 days in advance the handbook says 2 weeks, my request has been sitting since 02/13/2018.
Today 4/20/2018 I asked her one more time about my request she said she was told by corporate she can't approve it! Funny the days were during the week when two other employee's are in the office. That lets you know it's personal..
Really so I guess she thought I was going to continue my day and work the entire weekend and continue so she will have enough time to train the new girl... Lol the joke is on her!!! I have poor leasing volosity no I'm not going to give my best to the devil. She takes the referrals from residents and says they only want to deal with her when the last referral fell through she says he coming Saturday I said if he only wants to deal with you why not have him come on Monday.. Well because I rented the unit he wanted and she damn sure has no gift of communication to sale a piece of candy to a blind baby.. He the referral mysteriously was okay with dealing with me.
Today was the best day of my life as I handed her my keys to the community she was caught off guard and the look on her face was priceless. Now she can work all weekends and tour being it was mandatory! Corporate will need a lawyer in a moment they just don't know... Open your eyes why does Town Center have such a high turn over why have they had 15 temps in less then 6 months. If you treat people right they will work hard for you... The worst company I've ever worked for... I'm unapologetic about this post they need to know...When you know God is your provider you have nothing to worry about!

Shoddy building, constant fire alarms. Staff are negligent and don't respond to emergency calls or text. Kept the security deposit but refused to itemize or explain any of the damages. Stay the heck away.
