We have a great experience every time we go to the Quarter Barrel! My husband and I love the food, drinks, and atmosphere. Our kids love the old school arcade games (and we have a lot of fun teaching them how to play). We recommend this place for a fun family night, surprise birthday party, night out with friends, or check out their Trivia nights, Harry Potter fest, summer brunches, and more. This place is a gem!

My first visit was a really great one. Tried two of their own brews and they were great summer brews. There are vintage video game favorites - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still button-bashing fun!

Gets a little loud when it is packed but the environment is so fun and full of life. Wonderful to see so many families spending time together. And great retro movies playing and decorations on the walls!

Nice place for a couple beers and some retro play. Miss the days of the old arcades at the mall. The beer is great, and won't break the bank to take a few home as well. Pizza is great as well. Good place to take the kids as well. Games are a quarter, so not going to break the bank. Sorry kids, no tickets or prizes....only the pride of putting your initials on the high scores list...priceless.

Awesome place! Went for the first time this weekend for my son's basketball team party. The place was hopping and it was a fun vibe with all the retro games. The pizza was not your run of the mill pizza. Food was delicious and the house beers were some of the best in Cedar Rapids and I didn't even know they brewed beer! Will be back often.

We stopped in at noon on Saturday. I had been wanting to go here since it opened with a lot of hype. I thought it might be fun to take my children as they have never really seen an arcade. When we arrive there was another family with 5 kids, so I thought it would be all right. My first clue was that things were not going to go as expected ,soon showed up on the TV's they had. The TV was playing "Jason goes to hell" I hate to be "that guy" but I asked the bar tender if we could change it to anything that did not have mass murderers lopping off the heads of naked co-ed's. step one all good. Except one TV near the bar, apparently they really needed to watch this "film", perhaps taking notes for a film study class ?

So on to the menu. I asked if they had any kids menu items that I had missed. nope they do not. Well, we can make the best of it. How about a simple burger, nope, no burgers on the menu. hmmm, well o.k.,

Pressing on, we ordered sliders. You cant go wrong with sliders right ? Turns out you can. The "sliders" that showed up at our table, looked like something you would find in European mall trying to give you a "real american" type meal.

It almost feels like the kitchen is disconnected from the rest of the theme. They were going for a fancy food to appeal to hipsters perhaps ? Also strange was a kids party was getting setup for a dozen children as we were eating (And Jason still in hell, killing coed's on the back TV), so they apparently do want family's to come in ? They also served children size plastic cups to our kids, but no kids menu. I am just not sure who this place is targeting as their customers. I was hoping that during the day, it would be a place to take the kids for a quick burger and some old school arcade games and perhaps after at night a more bar driven scene.

So keep your kids at home , your hipster micro brew friends with flannel and beards however will love this place for its unusual food.for example there was some type of cucumber cut into a star pattern on the plate. Who goes for that ? "Boy I like this cucumber, but it would be much better if they would have made a star shape out of it". Nobody , that's who.

All in all we got 3 "slider meals" and a appetizer of cheese bread and 4 drinks for close to $50.

It's a little bit of a let down. Perhaps I am just no longer the target audience even though I grew up in Arcades as a kid.

We had a table and all gathered around. We ordered some pizza, apps and different beers. That was a fun time in itself. Our server was very attentive and did a great job!! Classic video games were great if not on loud side for a few oldsters in our party. Waiter was knowledgeable and good. We would go again.

Wonderful establishment, exceptional service and exquisite food! We will be back, Quarter Barrel. Thank you for having an inviting atmosphere for all ages. Most definitely a top 5 best place to eat when you're in Cedar Rapids.

Went here for a bday party and had such a great time (grown ups and kids). I ve been here before and love their pizza but their new pasta is so so good! And the games entertained us all for hours. Will def be back!

Great beer, great Pizza, lots of nostalgia. I had the mushroom, sausage and arugala Pizza, and it was phenomenal. I think the pizza/brewery/gourmet combo is very approachable for non-foodies in Iowa.

Edit: Tried "The Mario". It has a balsamic reduction on it that was extremely bitter; I couldn't power through it. The pizza gets real pricey if you order gluten free. Curly fries were interesting but good. The beer is well priced!

Yum

Had two beers, one was a a dark stout, the other a dark lager (made by the man who served it to me) and both were fantastic beers. I brought my whole party bus here and they delivered no problem 10/10

First off, the beer is fantastic! I constantly visit breweries, and most are so, so. This is some serious stuff. The help was very friendly. And being a product of the 80s, I found the atmosphere to be very fun. I love this place.

Moderately expensive, but fun! My 10 yr old had a blast with the arcade games, she even wants to have her birthday there. But the foods a little over priced. Its not the best pizza, could have been better, wish they had more options, better pizza sauce, fresher ingredients. It was worth the arcade, but not worth the food. Just an suggestion but they need to redo their entire menu, try street taco's and burgers.

I went here with a large group and the waiter was very organized with so many people.... I heard the beers were good and the pizza was awesome! They have really unique amazing flavors! The games are also fun! The only thing is that you have to go to the bar to ask for more to drink when it gets later but other than that ... Great!!!

Will not be back. We came in on Sunday 2/2 about noon was not busy. My daughter ordered a gluten free pizza my granddaughter ordered chicken strips and we ordered a pepperoni pizza. The other family ordered a pepperoni pizza and a appetizer. They came back was out of gluten free crust so she ordered a cheese burger and salad. They brought out the cheeseburger and salad and the chicken strips. They put croutons on the salad so she couldn't eat it. The chicken strips was burnt. 10 minutes later our pizza came out. And about a half hour later the other families pizza came out crust was doughy they didn't send back cause everyone else was already done eating. And they forgot the appetizer. The whole purpose for us to go out for lunch together is to eat together. For the price we should of went to McDonald's.

Tasty gourmet food that was well priced. A 12" pizza and an order of onion rings was just right for two people.

Our server Jay was very friendly and attentive. The food was up fast too.

The craft beer was good, but it was expensive. To be fair there were cheaper options, but I wanted to give their beer a shot. Out of the two I tried (English Bitter and Belgian Ale), I preferred the Belgian.

Many of the best arcade games are here (Pacman cabaret, Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong & DK Jr., Defender, Galaga, Centipede, and more). I don't know of any place in the area that can boast having these titles. Some games did have noticeable issues like missing sound (TMNT) or a clunky/wrong joystick (DK), but most are working just fine. At their age, I'm sure the machines need frequent maintenance or parts, so it's understandable that some machines are in queue for repair.

Also several pins. I'm not much on pinball, but there are 5 or 6 there.

All in all it's a quality restaurant, and to my knowledge nothing else in Cedar Rapids is offering a classic arcade atmosphere. I hope this establishment is around for many years to come. CR really needed a place like Quarter Barrel.

Go and check 'em out if you haven't yet!

Edit: Thanks for the response. I figured that maybe TMNT was an annoyance, and it's close to the bar. Not sure if it has attraction noises. Have a good one!

1 star deducted for the amount of kids located inside, I thought for certain this was going to be a fun place for adults away from kids, we walked in and there had to be at least 25 kids in our view so we walked back out. Never ate here or received service so I could not deduct more if needed.

Yum

Back in the 80's Cedar Rapids had a place called DW Dawg where you could go for good food and great arcade games. The Quarter Barrel is the first place since then where you could find the same. I love the fact that I can bring my whole family in to play the games and order great pizza and appetizers (not to mention that beer brownie thing that was outstanding!!!). I am not a beer drinker myself so I didn't order any of the beers, but the other people I was with all seemed to enjoy whatever they ordered to drink. If you want to go to a retro-arcade with a game collection that will take you back in time and have great food at the same time, you have to give this place a try!

I haven't had they're food yet but if you want to have a few drinks and play arcade games from the past with friends this is the place to go. Tons of old games lots of fun and occasional trivia night. Alcohol is a bit pricey unfortunately but they have a few home made mixtures.
