Fantastic games, great beer selection! Too bad I was too late for the kitchen..
We have a great experience every time we go to the Quarter Barrel! My husband and I love the food, drinks, and atmosphere. Our kids love the old school arcade games (and we have a lot of fun teaching them how to play). We recommend this place for a fun family night, surprise birthday party, night out with friends, or check out their Trivia nights, Harry Potter fest, summer brunches, and more. This place is a gem!
Our food was middle of the road, but the selection of vintage games was great! Would come back for beer and games.
My first visit was a really great one. Tried two of their own brews and they were great summer brews. There are vintage video game favorites - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still button-bashing fun!
Helpful and cool staff, great pinball and old school game selection! The beer seemed decent, though I'm not much of a drinker. The pizza looks killer, but I was there for the games.
Gets a little loud when it is packed but the environment is so fun and full of life. Wonderful to see so many families spending time together. And great retro movies playing and decorations on the walls!
Good food over priced. To much with all the Arcade games.
Nice place for a couple beers and some retro play. Miss the days of the old arcades at the mall. The beer is great, and won't break the bank to take a few home as well. Pizza is great as well. Good place to take the kids as well. Games are a quarter, so not going to break the bank. Sorry kids, no tickets or prizes....only the pride of putting your initials on the high scores list...priceless.
Awesome place! Went for the first time this weekend for my son's basketball team party. The place was hopping and it was a fun vibe with all the retro games. The pizza was not your run of the mill pizza. Food was delicious and the house beers were some of the best in Cedar Rapids and I didn't even know they brewed beer! Will be back often.
Great pizza, beer, fun for kids and adults. Waitress unbelievable!
We stopped in at noon on Saturday. I had been wanting to go here since it opened with a lot of hype. I thought it might be fun to take my children as they have never really seen an arcade. When we arrive there was another family with 5 kids, so I thought it would be all right. My first clue was that things were not going to go as expected ,soon showed up on the TV's they had. The TV was playing "Jason goes to hell" I hate to be "that guy" but I asked the bar tender if we could change it to anything that did not have mass murderers lopping off the heads of naked co-ed's. step one all good. Except one TV near the bar, apparently they really needed to watch this "film", perhaps taking notes for a film study class ?
So on to the menu. I asked if they had any kids menu items that I had missed. nope they do not. Well, we can make the best of it. How about a simple burger, nope, no burgers on the menu. hmmm, well o.k.,
Pressing on, we ordered sliders. You cant go wrong with sliders right ? Turns out you can. The "sliders" that showed up at our table, looked like something you would find in European mall trying to give you a "real american" type meal.
It almost feels like the kitchen is disconnected from the rest of the theme. They were going for a fancy food to appeal to hipsters perhaps ? Also strange was a kids party was getting setup for a dozen children as we were eating (And Jason still in hell, killing coed's on the back TV), so they apparently do want family's to come in ? They also served children size plastic cups to our kids, but no kids menu. I am just not sure who this place is targeting as their customers. I was hoping that during the day, it would be a place to take the kids for a quick burger and some old school arcade games and perhaps after at night a more bar driven scene.
So keep your kids at home , your hipster micro brew friends with flannel and beards however will love this place for its unusual food.for example there was some type of cucumber cut into a star pattern on the plate. Who goes for that ? "Boy I like this cucumber, but it would be much better if they would have made a star shape out of it". Nobody , that's who.
All in all we got 3 "slider meals" and a appetizer of cheese bread and 4 drinks for close to $50.
It's a little bit of a let down. Perhaps I am just no longer the target audience even though I grew up in Arcades as a kid.
We had a table and all gathered around. We ordered some pizza, apps and different beers. That was a fun time in itself. Our server was very attentive and did a great job!! Classic video games were great if not on loud side for a few oldsters in our party. Waiter was knowledgeable and good. We would go again.
Wonderful establishment, exceptional service and exquisite food! We will be back, Quarter Barrel. Thank you for having an inviting atmosphere for all ages. Most definitely a top 5 best place to eat when you're in Cedar Rapids.
Very cool place to grab a drink and play old arcade games
I've been here over 10 times and enjoy the atmosphere and tasty unique pizzas, very reasonably priced.
A little noisy. Chicken, bacon ranch pizza delicious. Great place to grab some pizza!
Pizza, beer, arcade, happy hour when you should be working. What is not to like?
The bartender Shannon was awesome the atmosphere was great
Went here for a bday party and had such a great time (grown ups and kids). I ve been here before and love their pizza but their new pasta is so so good! And the games entertained us all for hours. Will def be back!
The pizza was really different not bad but different. The desserts were really good. The real reason to go here though is for the arcades. the best arcade in the area!
Great beer, great Pizza, lots of nostalgia. I had the mushroom, sausage and arugala Pizza, and it was phenomenal. I think the pizza/brewery/gourmet combo is very approachable for non-foodies in Iowa.
Edit: Tried "The Mario". It has a balsamic reduction on it that was extremely bitter; I couldn't power through it. The pizza gets real pricey if you order gluten free. Curly fries were interesting but good. The beer is well priced!
Great beer selection. Pizza was very good. Kids had fun playing arcade games.
We used The Quarter Barrel as the venue for a wedding shower. The staff made the planning and the event so easy! Great food, great service, fun people, and a very fun venue overall. Everyone had a fabulous time.
Favorite place for a day or evening date!! There is absolutely nothing to complain about. I love everything about this place every single time <3
Had two beers, one was a a dark stout, the other a dark lager (made by the man who served it to me) and both were fantastic beers. I brought my whole party bus here and they delivered no problem 10/10
Pizza was good. UPDATE: Pinball
machines are now much better maintained. I m a pinball snob and am now pleased!!! Over a year ago I gave 3 stars due to maintenance. Major change. I will be back soon.
The Pizzas are a joke, but the sandwiches and appetizers are wonderful. The atmosphere is also very energetic!
Good pizza, sandwiches, burgers, and beer. A pretty impressive collection of classic arcade games, and there s always a movie to watch on the big screens. Great fun for parents and kids.
A fun place to take kids and show them some video games i grew up with.
First off, the beer is fantastic! I constantly visit breweries, and most are so, so. This is some serious stuff. The help was very friendly. And being a product of the 80s, I found the atmosphere to be very fun. I love this place.
We did a birthday party for my 8 year old nephew here. They were great. The food, service and games were great.
Bar tender Everett, was awesome! Went for a late night date night with my boyfriend and he was awesome! Helped my boyfriend get a good beer, updated us on a football score! Great guy and great place!
I will never go back there all of our food was cold and the pizza was burnt my first time there and I was very disappointed never again
Pizza is excellent and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the games worked.
Service was OK because they were packed but food was great and the kids loved playing the games.
Great beers and pizza. Games are in good condition and play well. Fantastic place to lose yourself for a couple hours.
This place was awesome we were visiting from Arizona definitely recommend going to this place food was good bartender was great and lots of old games at I know people would really like
Food is awesome service atmosphere is great the games are always up and operational it's just a fun place to relax and you can also go across the street and visit Blackstock motorcycles
Moderately expensive, but fun! My 10 yr old had a blast with the arcade games, she even wants to have her birthday there. But the foods a little over priced. Its not the best pizza, could have been better, wish they had more options, better pizza sauce, fresher ingredients. It was worth the arcade, but not worth the food. Just an suggestion but they need to redo their entire menu, try street taco's and burgers.
I went here with a large group and the waiter was very organized with so many people.... I heard the beers were good and the pizza was awesome! They have really unique amazing flavors! The games are also fun! The only thing is that you have to go to the bar to ask for more to drink when it gets later but other than that ... Great!!!
Cool games but bad sevice, forgeting orders and bad pizza
Fun place to go and just get lost in the games. Arcade games are cheap to play. We only ordered beer and played the arcade. Nice place.
Nice atmosphere. A bit loud and the food is pricey.
Great place for sophisticated pizza and tantalizing microbrews! Enjoy the one of the dozens of arcades and great music.
Not your average pizza joint! Food was different but delicious! Didn t know they made their own beer either. So good. And the games were a fun way to pass the time!
We stop here every time we are in Cedar Rapids. Our teen and early 20s aged kids love this place too. The staff is always friendly. The pizza we had wad very good. Love love love the pinball!
Fun trip down memory lane of a pass time that required a mall and apocket full of quarters. Good food too.
Beer was good, food was mixed, but are you kidding me no catsup? And want to charge me for ranch?? Service attitude ruined whole experience
A top site for delicious Pizza. I love eating here. I'll return with my relatives.
Excellent beers on tap & classic arcade games make for a good combo for a group outing!
Excellent food, but PLEASE bring back the white pizza! Its our favorite! :)
Not that much of a fan of their pizza menu. The crust is good though. Service is slow. Big open place. I hope to see this place grow and be a successful establishment.
Being able to enjoy some delicious pizza and playing old arcade games is something I didn't know I missed.
A fun place to hang out with unique pizzas and average craft beers.
Will not be back. We came in on Sunday 2/2 about noon was not busy. My daughter ordered a gluten free pizza my granddaughter ordered chicken strips and we ordered a pepperoni pizza. The other family ordered a pepperoni pizza and a appetizer. They came back was out of gluten free crust so she ordered a cheese burger and salad. They brought out the cheeseburger and salad and the chicken strips. They put croutons on the salad so she couldn't eat it. The chicken strips was burnt. 10 minutes later our pizza came out. And about a half hour later the other families pizza came out crust was doughy they didn't send back cause everyone else was already done eating. And they forgot the appetizer. The whole purpose for us to go out for lunch together is to eat together. For the price we should of went to McDonald's.
Tasty gourmet food that was well priced. A 12" pizza and an order of onion rings was just right for two people.
Our server Jay was very friendly and attentive. The food was up fast too.
The craft beer was good, but it was expensive. To be fair there were cheaper options, but I wanted to give their beer a shot. Out of the two I tried (English Bitter and Belgian Ale), I preferred the Belgian.
Many of the best arcade games are here (Pacman cabaret, Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong & DK Jr., Defender, Galaga, Centipede, and more). I don't know of any place in the area that can boast having these titles. Some games did have noticeable issues like missing sound (TMNT) or a clunky/wrong joystick (DK), but most are working just fine. At their age, I'm sure the machines need frequent maintenance or parts, so it's understandable that some machines are in queue for repair.
Also several pins. I'm not much on pinball, but there are 5 or 6 there.
All in all it's a quality restaurant, and to my knowledge nothing else in Cedar Rapids is offering a classic arcade atmosphere. I hope this establishment is around for many years to come. CR really needed a place like Quarter Barrel.
Go and check 'em out if you haven't yet!
Edit: Thanks for the response. I figured that maybe TMNT was an annoyance, and it's close to the bar. Not sure if it has attraction noises. Have a good one!
Good food, beer. And you get to play some old school games
1 star deducted for the amount of kids located inside, I thought for certain this was going to be a fun place for adults away from kids, we walked in and there had to be at least 25 kids in our view so we walked back out. Never ate here or received service so I could not deduct more if needed.
The food greatly exceeded my expectations. Beers were solid. Good kids menu options.
Love this place. Interesting pizza combinations, great beer selection, and superb bar service. Awesome game options take me back 20 years.
My go to place for a night out with the kids. Great food and beer and fun games. Always something quirky on the TV for an added bonus.
Great Pizza! Fun atmosphere and great old school arcade games!
Staff was very kind and accommodating. ...pizza is amazing....felt like a kid again playing pinball :))
Fun place! Good beers and interesting pizzas. Add in the old school pinball and you got nothing but good times.
Great atmosphere and fun games, but service was lacking and almost unnoticeable.
Service was awsome games were great wish for a little normal food tho
Stopped here during my son s basketball tournament. Wish we lived near Cedar Rapids so we could come more often! Very family-friendly but good beer and pizza for the grown ups. And come on, arcade games from my childhood!
Great place to pass some time, great beer selection and awesome food.
Good food. Fun arcade games. Good beer selection and good beer. Acoustics not great for conversation though as it can be very loud just from people talking.
Brewery? Arcade games? Poutine? They've got it all. I will definitely be back.
Only had to wait 45 minuts to order a drink :) but then they didnt serve that drink... So i only had to wait 45 minuts to order again :) only to be sober... And they didnt have that drink either, went to fat walleys, played some pool and got the liqour my heart ever so desired :)
Enjoyed the Chicago dog pizza and loved the old school arcade.
Back in the 80's Cedar Rapids had a place called DW Dawg where you could go for good food and great arcade games. The Quarter Barrel is the first place since then where you could find the same. I love the fact that I can bring my whole family in to play the games and order great pizza and appetizers (not to mention that beer brownie thing that was outstanding!!!). I am not a beer drinker myself so I didn't order any of the beers, but the other people I was with all seemed to enjoy whatever they ordered to drink. If you want to go to a retro-arcade with a game collection that will take you back in time and have great food at the same time, you have to give this place a try!
We had a blast! The games were a lot of fun and pizza was awesome. Highly recommend the Quarter Barrel
I haven't had they're food yet but if you want to have a few drinks and play arcade games from the past with friends this is the place to go. Tons of old games lots of fun and occasional trivia night. Alcohol is a bit pricey unfortunately but they have a few home made mixtures.
