Great wines and great place to stop. Tastings to let you know what is good so you don't end up with a wine you are not happy with in the end.
Great wines and great place to stop. Tastings to let you know what is good so you don't end up with a wine you are not happy with in the end.
By far my favorite place to get wine from! Large selection of flavors. I would highly suggest the Lawrence Elk wine as a personal favorite. Free wine tastings. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful facility - great for events as well (receptions, parties, etc.) If you also like beer, they have their brewery next door.
We had some of their wine in a restaurant nearby before. We decided to go inside to try out more of their wine. The tasting was free to begin with. Their wine is really great. Some of the best I ve ever had. We bought a bottle from there and they also offer glasses of wine so I had a glass as well. The staff were really knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend.
Limited food selections; a little pricy; heavy on the bread.
Delicious wine and free samples! The staff was very nice and friendly! There is NO better place to sample wine in the Black Hills!
Fun and .... YUM! This is a beautiful and elegent winery with very delicious crafted wines and beautifully plated luxurious food. There are two counters for wine tasting. You can have free samples up to five wines, but if you want more (and we did) you can pay $5 extra for five more. Was super fun to learn about the wines and taste all the different kinds. We had the cheese plate which was amazing! I purchased their Kick Ass jam to go with it ... so delicious. Then we played a few games of checkers, sat out on their patio and shopped their merch while enjoying a few glasses of wine. Was an awesome time!
The wines range from dry to fruity sweet and I thought the food was great!
We really enjoyed our time at Prairie Berry Winery, the tastings were extremely helpful in assisting us in choosing our case of wines we took back to Texas with us. 4th of July weekend 2020 Saturday is when we stopped by, and Prairie Berry Winery didn't disappoint. They offer other items other than wine also - stop by and spend some time, it was worth it for us.
First of all I am not a big wine person, Girlfriend and I stopped there. I was buying wine for friends. To make a long story short. I ended up buying a case of wine for myself. This place is very nice and the staff is very friendly. They know there wine!!! I will be buying more wine from them!!!
Very nice selection of wines, found their lunch to be rather spend for what you are served in food...
Good wines and a very nice cafe with counter service.
Free tasting, friendly staff, and beer from next door if wine is not your fancy :)
Hannah was amazing. I was able to taste before I bought and the gentlemen at checkout register was not delightful!
This is a pretty place but not the most impressive wine tasting experience I ve ever had. They require reservations so we expected more of an experience. The tasting took all of about 10 minutes, it was done while standing, and we got about two sips of each wine. It was really more of a sampling situation for you to figure out what bottle(s) of overpriced wine you were going to buy.
Consistently good wine. Prairie Berry Winery offers five free samples you pick from their wine list. None of the wines are overly astringent or icky sweet. They offer a a key that indicates how dry or sweet the profile of the wine is. The ingredients are sourced from the area and either feature 100% or majority make up for their depending on the recipe of the beverage.
Just visited the winery today. Welcoming staff was warm, friendly & personable. We were a bit early for our wine tasting but they were able to get us in within a 45 minute wait. That really wasn t a long time & we appreciated their being able to accommodate us.
We opted to have some lunch. My wife ordered a peach & prosciutto on whole grain artesian bread with their house salad of the day. She was thrilled. Everything was to her liking.
Evidently I ordered badly. I had their farmer lunch. I was to receive a cup of soup, a caesar salad & artesian bread. Initially I received no bread, but the server said she would bring it to me, which she did promptly.
The salad was unlike anything I have ever experienced. It was literally SWIMMING in oil of some sort. It tasted strangely like a bad Italian dressing with sweet & sour notes. The greens were so drenched in whatever that concoction was that they were inedible! The croutons were so hard that I nearly cracked a molar. The soup was okay...at best. The ingredients seemed fairly fresh but the broth had absolutely NO flavor!
In summary, my wife gave it a four & I would give my meal a zero (only because it was not possible to give the food I received a negative number) so the average is two.
Free wine tasting. Great quality. Enjoyed the conversation.
This place is awesome. Betty helped us pick out some delicious wine and jams. Would highly recommend stopping by.
All wines are absolutely delicious! You get free samples right away when you walk in. The staff were super nice and went above and beyond to help us learn more about their wines. My friends and I left with eight bottles :D definitely check this place out!
The wines are very good. They have free samples which is a great way to choose your favorites before you buy. The staff is very friendly.
I have been to this winery many times and I LOVE what they have! Not only do they have complimentary wine tastings, but their deli is incredible and the wine is so fun and delicious! I would recommend this to anyone who is in the Black Hills to stop by, get lunch and enjoy some incredible wines! Worth the stop!
Wonderful tasting. Lots of local history shared. And lovely wine!
Amazing winery, a must see when visiting Rapid City or Rushmore. Very welcoming. Offer 5 wines to taste for free. I liked their award winning Rhubarb. Nice lawn to relax and let the kids run. They also serve food. Only a short walk in the sidewalk to the Miner brewery. Highly recommend!
My husband and I stopped by for a wine tasting on a snowy January day. Our wine server was kind and we enjoy ourselves in the rustic atmosphere and the South Dakota friendly conversation. The wine was delicious and the snacks in the tasting room hit the spot.
A must see on your trip. Excellent food, great wine selection. Furbabies welcomed on the patio.
It was a great experience, great wine friendly service.
Very kind and helpful staff. Free samples. We thought the food was amazing as well. We got the flat bread, sampled and night a bottle of the 3 rednecks.
First off, food was amazing. Secondly, the wine tasting was so fun and educational! She was very helpful and choosing our wines! I got a bottle for dinner with my friends, a bottle for drinking at our cabin, then three bottles to take home. I have yet to be disappointed! I live in Michigan and signed up for their wine club, which is a very reasonable price. Can't wait to receive my first order!
Extremely friendly and good service.
Personally, didn t find the wines as appealing. Prices were fair.
I visit Prairie Berry annually and it is always a pleasant experience! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, the wine is amazing and the food is delicious!!! Especially the grilled cheese sandwich This year my husband and I are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised with a free lunch and a free bottle of wine!! Thank you so much to the hospitality manager Irman for making our day extra special
Free tastings, exceptional customer service, and the ONLY place in SD (in our experience) with proper covid precautions. Exceeded expectations.
A must see if you are in the area. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are actively helping people. Free wine tasting is a must when visiting!
Jodi was amazing when I went up to get my wine for the month. I did a tasting with her and she was so amazing. She knew her stuff about the wine and the black hills. She was very enjoyable to just talk with about everything.
The wine at prairie berry is beyond amazing! They staff always knows what to suggest to your liking!
This was our last stop for the day, after the Bear Country & the Railroad trip.
We had a wonderful wine hostess...who was funny, & helpful. We ordered some food, & mine wasn't up to the cook's standards (per our server's exact words). So...they gave me the food they "messed up", to eat while I waited for the better food. They were so sweet...& I actually never even noticed any difference! Either way...food was great, staff was wonderful, the wine was amazing, & the atmosphere was beautiful!
Great wine tasting experience. Good food and wine. Professional service.
Prairie Berry Winery is the best. They have a huge selection of award winning wine. My favorites are the sweet ones. Nobody makes them like Prairie Berry. Raspberry Honeywine, Blueberry Honeywine and Peach Mead are my favorites.
They also have great food and a great atmosphere. They ship all over the states. And free tastings, can't forget that.
I just love Prairie Berry!!
The wine is great; they have a large, diverse selection and they rotate it frequently. They also have an assortment of food and snacks which complement their wines very well and also taste great. Tastings are free and the staff is very friendly and seems pretty knowledgable. The atmosphere is also really nice, with plenty of seating inside and out and chic, artistic decor. Overall a great place to hang out or wind down after hiking or biking or whatever in the hills, and if wine isn't your thing they have an awesome brewery next door. Highly recommend!
Pretty good wine; but their 'South Dakota Clover Honey & Cinnamon' is delicious! It's good enough that I ordered three more jars when I finished the original one I brought back to MN.
Stopped and tasted really good sweet, fruity wines! Alice was very informative about the winery and the story behind each wine!
An interesting wine, nothing like I've ever had before. Refreshing
We re not wine drinkers but we love their wine. Good variety for all tastes.
Fun wine tasting with 5 free samples. Food was delicious. We had the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. I'm not a sweet wine fan, but I enjoyed the Pheasant Reserve and it was fun to sample the sweeter options.
Great place visit a winery in Hill City SD. I don't go on many wine tours. The few I have been on have a small $4-5 charge for wine tasting. Here, you got your choice of five wines of your choice, from all of their wines, complimentary! The menu was delicious, all homemade, from scratch. The chicken salad sandwich was so good. The tomato basil soup was spot on! Nice visit.
Nice place, 5 complimentary tastings. ALL were great! Will definitely be back!
Great place with excellent wine and food. Good beer next door at the Miner as well.
Beautiful winery, friendly and knowledgeable staff and great selection of wine! Bought two bottles and can t wait to try them out!
Definitely recommend the Redass! Sweet and tart in the best way possible.
While in Rapid city we went to Prairie Berry as my wife and daughter were there last year and they raved about the rhubarb wine, and it didn't disappoint. The wine tasting offered an extensive selection and staff were friendly and knowledge without tempting to hardshell. We left after purchasing several bottles.
Awesome service with awesome wine and much history behind it.
The people who work at Prairie Berry are a knowledgeable crew of wine enthusiasts that are welcoming and won't hesitate to talk about their history. Great wine and great pairings. Redass Rhubarb is a must try!
You will see about 50 billboard's and brochures and advertisements for this winery. All saying to come here and try it for free! It's a tourist trap. You can try the wines at any local place for free but not here. We tried to go and drove all the way out here to do so and "you must have a reservation" to try wine. No one was trying wine. But you can pay $8 to try three. It doesnt make a lot of sense. I'll try before I buy and I'll take my business elsewhere.
Edit Reply: But we could of stayed and drank at the same bar if we paid $8 to do so. That's not social distancing at all. That's charging people to come in and still being exposed to your "full building" of reservations.
We had a very affordable and enjoying time across the street.
Very nice facility! Friendly, knowledgeable staff! Great wine!
Wine was wondeful as usual. Great food....tad pricey, but delicious. Cheesecake was amazing!
we stopped in because we saw all the signs along the interstate. We a wine tasting and Laurie was very informative with the history of the winery, and each wine. It really did not take her much to talk me into buying 4 bottles. I will definitely be back or ordering more online.
Prairie Berry is a jewel of the Black Hills. They craft consistently good wine, year after year, and their kitchen makes wonderful food. Any time a friend or relative visits, I have to take them to PB.
Great variety of good wine from dry to sweet; plenty to choose from.
Great wines and a must stop whenever I'm in the area!
Prairie Berry Winery has the most amazing personal. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Loved the winery and loved the complimentary tastings! Went home with a couple of cases of our favorites in case we can t come back for awhile. Really cool atmosphere and great fruity wines!
On a recent trip to South Dakota we stopped at this winery mostly because of their billboards advertising the KickAss Rhubarb wine :) It was a great place and a fun experience. The free wine tasting was tasty and educational. And the food was amazing. We came back at least three times, joined the Wine Club and had supper there one night. My friend and I each ordered a case shipped home (free shipping!) and they arrived today in great shape. All in all the Prairie Berry Winery was a great experience and made for a great visit!
We visit wineries all over the country, and this is definitely one of our favorites! The wines are always great, the staff always friendly, and on our most recent trip, we enjoyed a lunch from the kitchen. It was all fantastic! I d recommend Prairie Berry if you are in the Black Hills, it is a must stop destination!
This was the second time I had been there. Great place, great wine
Very attentive staff. Nice experience of a free of charge wine tasting
Food was good. Not all portions were a good size for the price.
Placed an order to be delivered. Slow customer service.
It was a great stop. Everytime I'm in the black hills it's a must stop. Great wine, great people, great atmosphere!!!!
This place is amazing. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, some really great wines that stand out, and the food is also amazing. You need to stop in and see it and taste it.
Great little spot with award winning wine. We did a free taste test of 5 wines and they added one more. We needed to rest up so we got a snack of Charcuterie (meats, cheese, olives, bread, peppers). Amazing little spot!
On our trip to South Dakota we visited the winery for tasting and lunch. It was one of the highlights of the trip. They have a great selection of local wines. The food was incredible.
Great wine, food, and atmosphere! We stop in every time we re in the Hills and we re also part of the wine club. It s so much fun to spend the afternoon here. The staff is knowledgeable, customer service is great, and the food is excellent!
Friendly and helpful staff. Get to try 5 samples of excellent wine!
Amazing! We stop in here everytime we come to South Dakota to see family. Always great beer and wine and super friendly staff. A must go to place.
Very nice and friendly place. A large selections of different wines, with very knowledgeable hosts/hostesses.
Delicious food and fantastic wines. Don't forget to tip your wine servers for their excellent knowledge and service.
Delicious wine, friendly staff, amazing menu! Kids even loved this place with the games that were on the tables. One of my must return to places!
Had the best time visiting friends there. Love that the brewery was right beside it too! Super friendly staff.
