Staff was very knowledgeable and wine was wonderfu...
Staff was very knowledgeable and wine was wonderful.
Staff was very knowledgeable and wine was wonderful.
It's very unique and had a very warm, rustic atmosphere!
Great wine and even better food. They do an awesome job of being able to filter in large groups of people yet they still have a cool atmosphere and a friendly staff. The outdoor patio is a cool place to hang out and relax. We really enjoyed our wine and meal at Prairie Berry.
This gets 2 stars because the only redeemable experience we had of this place was the wine itself, which we didn't even try there due to horrible customer service. It was busy when we were there, so we expected a wait for a taste testing, which was fine. But we stood by the bar for 10 minutes, and were not acknowledged at all, not even a hello. We walked to the register to see if we had to be put on a list or something, and got a curt and cranky response. We recommend the wine, but not the tasting room.
We went here May of 2017. The free wine tasting made our day, as my Mom and myself were under the weather. The Wild Bill and Calamity Jane wines are my favorite! Will have to order some and have it delivered to Hudson, Wisconsin. Will be back to visit Hill City and Deadwood in 2019!
Staff was nice and knowledgeable, wines are mostly other fruits, not just grapes, interesting flavors. Highly recommend if you are looking for some one-of-a-kind, mostly sweet wines.
Excellent service, crazy wine names and tastes, a very large selection to choose from.
The wine tasting was so good but they needed more staff. Must try Calamity Jane! I got 4 bottles.
My wife and I are in Heaven every time we go to the Black Hills. We add this location to our trip. Every time.
I am not a wine drinker at all, but during a tasting back in summer 2015 I purchased a bottle of the Frontenac and tucked it in my wife's wine rack.
Fast forward 3 years, we moved and when we moved the wine rack I saw and remembered this bottle of wine. Well, today was the day I opened it and drank it. This is a very good flavorful wine. The taste is full bodied and has nice afternotes.
I am very happy that I bought this bottle 3 years ago, I am even more happy that I drank it!
All the wines were fantastic. I purchased a case but the bad ass rhubarb was the essence of summer in a bottle. Leanna was key in my purchase by recommending wines outside of my picks. Sandi is 5th generation in this business and she shines in every bottle.
Homestead weddings are about as classy as Black hills weddings get! Wow
I'm not a huge fan of their wine, but the restaurant is a great little spot for lunch.
Husband and I have never been here and they were absolutely wonderful. You're able to test a few wines for free while learning the history of the winery and the wines and how they came to be. There's a grill available as well if you want to snack with your wine. They have a great variety in their flavors as well. Very clean and spacious area. The shop also has scrumptious jelly and cheeses. The staff is very knowledgeable about their wines and know which cheeses/meats/meals go with what wine. Hospitality was a 10/10. Definitely recommend for all.
Not biker friendly. The atmosphere was very condescending.
Love love loved this winery!!! The fact that the brewery next door is within walking distance is also perfect. Jesse was AWESOME for our tasting group. Will surely be back if we come through SD again!
Great winery with added benefit of a great brewery next door.
Very good people. Allowed me to order 4 minutes before closing. The food was good too.
Very nice staff, Good food and unusual but tasty wines!
Nice Winery. Tastings are limit due to Coronavirus.
My first time at a winery. Great wine and very friendly staff
Let me start by saying the staff (Sara) was very friendly knowledgeable and attentive, solid 5 star. The wine was fairly good, about a 4 star. But this place has been so heavily commercialised and over priced that it had really gone down to a 3 star. We're glad we went...buuut prolly wouldn't go back.
Love love love this place!!! First winery we've been to that every wine we tasted was delicious. They also had some amazing jams. Pretty sure we bought the place out!
A really unique winery that has a lot of variety of wines! I was a little sad to see that all the surrounding grocery stores were selling the wine cheaper than if you went to the winery itself....
Beautiful winery along a mountain road. It poured the ENTIRE time we were there yet there was covered outdoor space to sit and enjoy a glass of wine with friends.
Some ordered plates of beautiful assorted meats, cheeses, breads and fruit.
Not only wines available but jelly, dips and mixers for wine.
Most of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. One stinker in the group.
Very friendly environment and very knowledgeable teeple to help you.
A ton of wine to sample, 5 free samples per session. Nice patio to order a glass or bottle and enjoy the afternoon.
Love going here and the staff really know the wine.
Fantastic wine and food. The beer next door at Miner is also worth the trip. Also a great place for weddings and parties!
Spent about 45 seconds in there. Vacationing with my wife and 2 children. Not a unique situation in this area. We wuicly figured out there is zero possibility of keepinf the kids occupied and enjoying themseves while we taste and enjoy the product. No staffed tables or serving areas. Just a walk up tasting counter and warehouse like setting with self serve cafateria style seating. If you have children dont bother. Also $15+ for bottles of sugary table wine is a little steep considering the economies of scale they have at work.
I enjoy the different wines. Lawrence Elk is one of my favorites. Of course the red ass rhubarb is delish too. I love that they have a wide variety and they are also close to a brewery for those non-wine lovers. I do think the food is way over priced a 19 dollar flat bread is not worth it. And it wasn't that good. :-( go for the wine skip the food go into hill city for food!
They have wines for all tastes and a great crew who are wonderful to talk to. Had a blast sampling a variety of wines.
FREE wine tasting, need I say more? The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is so friendly and informative. We always make a point to stop when we're in the area for our free tasting and a few bottles. There's more than just wine! They provide meals and coffee along with their amazing and unique wines. We have never had a bad experience here!
Taste several different wines, and we got to hear about how the winery got started. Awesome place to visit.
Holding back on that elusive 5th star because we didn't have any food here.
However, Joe, our wine server, was excellent! He explained the background and origins of the winery then proceeded to go through the wine choices. He was informative and honest about what he didn't know.
It started to get busy, at first we were the only ones at the bar, but he handled the busyness well.
We ended up getting three bottles. We were only getting 2 but Joe have us a free taste of the frozen treat so we got those ingredients as well.
Fun relaxed place to stop in after our bike ride.
Big choice. There is not only wine, but also cheese, honey from clover and coffee
Beautiful location! Incredible food! What a lovely place to try some local wine! The cheese board was the perfect combo with the Deadwood flight.
The food is wonderful. Jen the chef was amazing. Will definitely be returning
We stopped in for lunch and their flat bread pizza we excellent. I had Meritage which was excellent as well. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their wine and food and give great pairing advice. A trip to Hill City is not complete without a stop.
Very friendly staff, tasty wines and love clover cinnamon honey...see you next year...
Loved the wine and the food. Kimberly was great and patient with us! We enjoyed our wine tasting with her.
Only problem was coming in from out-of-state and not know about reservations. It was chaotic coming in there and figuring out what we had to do...after that, it was great. Love, love the wine!!!
Excellent choice of wines. Free samples of up to 5. Friendly staff. Recommend Red Ads Rhubarb and Buffaloberry Fusion
Food was great, wine was divine and a good time was had by all
Free tastings! Wine was only so-so. Bottles are overpriced. Lots of sweet options is you like that sort thing.
The food was awesome. The cheese was good but the jams and wine are out of a grade a store! Thumbs up!
It was awesome, staff is very friendly and knowledgeable!
Outstanding wines. I don't like wine and I like theirs.
Food was excellent, and the wine is tasty, and I'm not a wine drinker
Sonja is an extraordinary help over the phone for wine club members. She's positive, answers the phone with a warm heart, and truly cares about what she does. Thank you for the great customer service Sonja!
A very pleasant experience. The food and staff were exceptional.
Best of the best! So happy it was recommended to us! Try the Frost Bite drink! We will go again tomorrow!
This is a delitful winery. I love their wines. Everyone is so nice.
This place is great. Unlike any winery I've been too. Nonstop personal service during the tasting with lots of great history and explanations about the wine.
I love the free wine tastings!
The food and wine are delicious. Become a gen 5 wine club member, you won t regret it!
This place was a lot of fun. There was a little wait to order our flights, but worth the wait. The employees were very friendly and answered any questions we had. The place was packed! Now we know why!!! Will be visiting again next time we are in the area.
Walked in and made a reservation to sample so.e of their wines. Its free to sample, you get 5. Pourer was nice, described each style before taste. We then ordered a charcuterie board and a glass of their famous rhubarb wine. Good wine, a little too sweet for my liking, but good.
Great layout selection , some food options, good covid guidelines.
Lovely visit and nice people. A definite
"go to" place.
Shopped and ate perfectly safe, clean, kid friendly and socially distanced. a wonderful experience and day. Kids pizza made from good deal ingredients and fair prices for the chicken avacado bacon flat bread w beer cheese soup. Would go again instantly.
I can't believe this place, they give you a free tasting, decently priced wine, and amazing food. It can't be possible, but it is. We had the bread and three spreads, which looked underwhelming at first but that change quickly because every spread and every single piece of bread tasted freaking great. We even got a cheesecake afterwards and it tasted as good as it looked. The lady, can't remember her name but had wavy blonde hair and super enthusiastic, was so helpful because we looked so lost when we walked in. Could have bought a whole case of wine but it wouldn't have fit in our car. Will return upon arrival into Black Hills.
Excellent wine tasting experience, as well as a very talented kitchen. You can easily spend a Saturday afternoon enjoying this little gem while sipping some truly amazing local wines, or partaking some great local beer from their brewery next door.
Great atmosphere with a unique twist on winemaking. Mostly sweet wines made with local varietals of berries. Not good for our pallets, but definitely worth stopping to try.
Super cool winery! I visited Rapid City from Portland, Oregon a few weeks ago, and on our way to Crazy Horse Memorial, my mother, aunt, and uncle and I stopped at Prairie Berry, which turned out to be one of my favorite stops on the whole trip. I bought THE most delicious Red Ass Rhubarb jam (thank god they sell it online, because if they didn't, I'd have to fly back there next week to get more!), and my mother and aunt and I had a heyday at the bar, taste-testing all of the wines. Such a fun winery and I hope to visit again the next time I'm in town.
Very fun!! Staff very informative and friendly. Definitely recommend!
We stopped at the Prairie Betty Winery after visiting My. Rushmore. A perfect stop to grab a bite to eat and relax. Amazing service, they offered free wine tasting and a fun atmosphere.
Had a great tasting at the winery and then walked down the sidewalk to the brewery. Beautiful grounds and great wine!
Wine samples 5 free very informative and educational. Loved the mulled cranberry wine, Valiant Bowen apple Brandy drink, red ass rhubarb, and wild Bill. Liked the sandwich and soup special. I forgot they brew 15 beers also can sample those too.
Gave me a whole new view on wine! If you like strawberry rhubarb pie, you'll definitely enjoy the Red Ass. Carol was informative and friendly while providing a quick history of each bottle of wine. Picked up quite a few bottles to take with and signed up to get more delivered when I get home!
I visit Prairie Berry every time I'm heading to my gramma's house in Deadwood, SD. Discovered it by accident a few years ago but definitely glad I stumbled upon it! They have local flavors and a nod to SD culture featuring local heroes and landmarks on their bottles. It's fun to not only learn about the wine, but then to learn about the people featured such as Calamity Jane after you leave the winery.
Prices are incredibly reasonable and the staff are friendly and more than ready to answer your questions!
Next time I'm there I'm stopping by the brewery next door!
Actually I did alot of research on this place and was the only place I actually wanted to stop at while in the area. I was disappointed, unfortunately. I felt like I was treated like I had no idea about wine. When I asked a question it was answered with a general answer.
Wine was just ok. Did not like that the server swirled my glass for me. I like to do that myself, when asked the server to not do that, unfortunately she did not listen. I do appreciate they do that for people who have no idea. Will not be back.
The winery looks good the waiter at first kept up with 4 people but after me and a freinds 2nd testing the waiter forgot about us for about 5 min but then did good. The cheese i thought would be great but was not when i got home and had a taste it was terrible. Ended up throwing it out only had 2 tiny slivers off of it. Only thing i recommend is have taste testing of chesse so i dont waste $6 on chesse to throw in the trash
Stopped in for a tasting left with a bunch of unique gifts for friends. Our guide Jessy was very nice, not pushy at all. The design and branding is very well thought out. We had another customer chatting with us about how wonderful they are and that she travels from a near by city to stock up. Great fun!
An elegant winery nestled in the heart of the Black Hills. The wines are superbly crafted, focusing mostly on sweet and fruity varieties. They also provide an assortment of artesian food, including pizza, open-face and flat-grilled sandwiches, and artisanal plates. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The only downside I could find was the lack of seating for larger groups, and mix of friendly and unfriendly staff. My wine server was fine, but our food server was less than excited to serve us. Overall, a pleasant experience. One last note: leave the kids at home. Their attempts at "kid-friendly" leave much to be desired.
