High quality restaurant, food id very good and the service is also efficent. The cost is not very excessive. Sorry for some small imperfections (exemple the flamb was not lit). Perfection is essential at this level.

Good and friendly service. Priced as fine dinning but food is only ok but not fantastic - so 4 stars rather than 5. Adventerous menu. Smart casual clothing. Entrance at the great northern hotel, first floor. I like the interior design of the hotel bar and the restaurant. Cozy feel. Bar area is popular and was packed on a Friday night.
Just delicious. Eggs Florentine was heavenly, beautifully cooked spinach, very light hollandaise and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Coffee was delightful. Dropped a point because the plates were cold, so the breakfast went cold too quickly.
Elegant ambient, kind and attentive staff, and amazing food. This was the place where my wife and I had or wedding lunch, and still the one special place we have in London.
It was a bit over-priced for the experience. We paid 17 pounds for a full English breakfast, which was filling; however, we had to sit in the bar, which wasn't the best dining experience. At 10 pounds for a meal, I would have given this 4 stars, but 17 pounds should've gotten me a better experience.
Fabulous place for celebrations. We booked a table on Saturday for a lunch time brunch for 8 people. Great service and fab food. Made extra special.by the extra touches they provided.
Went to this place with colleagues. We had a set menu. No complaints with the quality of food. The location of this restaurant was ideal for the business dinner, given the different locations we were coming in from and right next to Kings Cross / St. Pancras. The signature Plum and Spilt milk dessert was great, though the server's recommendation of Iced peanut & salted-caramel mousse was probably a better one.
The place is not easiest to find (the entrance is not overly visibly marked and the restaurant is actually on the first floor). The restaurant is not very large (but can get quite noisy). The food was very good, however the staff was somewhat pretentious.
Had some gorgeous food here. Mains are excellent, starters overpriced for what you get. Beautiful setting and impeccable service. Hard location to find
I first went with a friend for Saturday lunch. the chilli passion fruit cocktails were fab, the scallops are to die for, crab cakes are ok, we both had ribeye and it was absolutely fantastic. Wines are a bit pricey, but the sticky pistachio More
Went here for breakfast and almost couldn t find the place. But I m glad we did! It was a very classy place, quiet and a nice way to start the day. Food was lovely.
Menu could be more exciting, particularly for vegans and vegetarians. An interesting setting, you need to know it's there to be looking for it given its entrance relative to Kings Cross St Pancras station. Feels expansive for the food you're ultimately ordering being close to "gastro pub". A pleasant evening nevertheless.
Stylish restaurant with friendly and attentive staff, and a good menu. My main criticism is the food arrived on cold plates so was barely above room temperature. Hot food should come on hot plates!
Had a good brunch here. Burger for me, chorizo hash and egg for my partner. Relaxing decor and generally very good service. The prices are just a tad high for what it is though, hence 4 stars. Would go again
How this area of London has changed in the past 15 years - a huge improvement. The GNH is a beautiful boutique hotel but this is a review for its restaurant.
A Saturday afternoon spent here in lovely, railway station themed surroundings. The furniture in the small adjacent bar is beautiful and the whole place has a yesteryear charm. The dining room itself has floor-to-ceiling windows; lots of natural light and great views over St Pancras and Kings Cross.
The staff are really friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy working here. A couple of mistakes were dealt with superbly. Great food and a wonderful ambiance. Highly recommended!
Very good quality and service next to the station, I ordered steak with handcut chips. For dessert I had a delicious sticky toffee pudding. I ordered all the food from the lunch menu. The food was served swiftly and the staff was very professional. This is a great place for business lunch and I would definitely recommend. .
Unkind service at the reception, although, the waiters were friendly. The food was not worth the price set on the menu. You can find much better nearby.
Great decor and ambience. Friendly and engaging staff (Veronica was our wonderful waitress and was the best!) Food and wine were delicious. Highly recommended.
I use to eat here a lot since I use to stay in this hotel. But the service just got worse and worse, and the personnel is extremely rude. Will never go back to this place.
I've often thought of Kings X as a bit of a back spot in the heart of town. However, that changed when I went to Plum and Spilt Milk. The surroundings are plane, and crisp and the food good. The bar on the ground floor is also worth a visit. Lively, if a bit isolated from the restaurant.
One of the up and coming areas, Kings Cross is bustling with more than busy train travelers as cool, hip, warehouse-inspired cafes and charming restaurants emerge. As it turns out the name 'Plum + Spilt Milk', derives not from two random food items off the shelf, but from the nickname given to the original LNWR dining car, painted in the railway's traditional lively colours. The other tables were mostly filled with office workers but despite being possibly the only three students in the relatively small restaurant, we did not feel the least bit out of place. It felt spacious given the size. Service was pretty good although we heard glass crashing incidents twice while dining, which prompted us to make a poor joke about the restaurant's name.
Beginning with appetizers, the Kentish tomato salad, goat's curd & oregano was basically a plate of tomato with goat's curd and oregano sprinkled on top, decorated with pretty zucchini flowers. Nothing all that special in terms of taste but presentation-wise it deserves some merit. The prawn cocktail was quite the quintessential fancy palette treat, fresh and juicy.
As for the mains, the Monkfish cheek & mussel curry with pilaf rice on the side was delicious but better yet was a Plum & Spilt Milk Classic - Steak Tartare with salad and paprika fries. The waiter kindly explained that it was in fact raw steak, as there had apparently been previous occasions when customers are shocked when the plate arrive. I suppose this is an example of the danger in ordering something when you don't fully comprehend every word on the menu (Eep!). There is never any harm in asking.
When it came time for dessert, I did not hesitate to go with the 'Plum & Spilt Milk', sugar-encrusted cake with sweet-sour plum and jam toppings, and a scoop of milk ice-cream on the side that complimented the taste. It took us a while to decide on the other but we finally settled on the Cold Valrhona chocolate fondant, supposedly one of the popular choices, pleasantly rich in its chocolate.
It worked out to be slightly over 70GBP for the two appetizers, two main courses and two desserts. Luckily, my flatmates had a 20% voucher and a cheque to redeem from opentable (you get it after accumulating a few thousand points), so it worked out to be barely above 30GBP. Not bad for an above average British meal for three.
Having read that the breakfast is a little pricey but good, i will probably be making my way back soon for crepe.
Charming place. Loved the decor. A bit of a slow service for a Weds and menu is appetising but it felt too limited or not varied. Yet, it is an easy choice around King's Cross and St Pancras.
Nice cosy atmosphere with the low lighting. Food was good but what you should expect with the price. Perhaps it could be a bit more generous. Beer menu somewhat limited. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Toilets are two floors below so there are a lot of stairs. Conveniently close to St Pancras station.
Beautifully chic place. We came just for a cocktail and were not disappointed. Original cocktails and very tasty. The one with gin and grape was particularly good. Fast and friendly service.
3 and a half out of 5. The room itself is nice and well appointed, with plenty of space, not too cramped. Service was not great however. We had to ask for a menu after 10 minutes, and then ask to order after another 15 minutes. Starter of rabbit ravioli was disappointing with chewy pasta. Main course of monkfish and curried mussels was excellent however
Eclectic menu, I would not call it British standard cuisine, but has the simplicity of British cuisine with a semi upscale element. Good cocktails. Bad or non-existent beer and wine selection. I'd go back.
Plum + Split Milk is located on the first floor of the Great Northern Hotel, offering a beautiful elegant room that combines sophistication with style.
The main room is ample and full of light serving as an oasis from the bustle and hustle at street level. Food is served daily from breakfast, through lunch and dinner, closing at midnight. The service is attentive, professional and relaxed.
Absolutely beautiful meal and impeccable service. I believe our waiter was Daniel and was an absolute star! His recommendations were perfect and our meal was delicious. A beautiful restaurant and no doubt will be my go to bar in Kings Cross. Really pleased!
Stylish restaurant with friendly and attentive staff, and a good menu. My main criticism is the food arrived on cold plates so was barely above room temperature. Hot food should come on hot plates!
Beautifully crafted modern British dishes in an impressively designed upstairs room overlooking King's Cross Square. The service was friendly with polite attention without an overbearing feel to it. The Devon crab to start followed by the lamb shoulder were both excellent and quality of the sides complimented our lunch nicely. It is worth noting that the restaurant is part of the Great Northern Hotel, so the entrance is a little tricky to find from the outside. Located right in front of King's Cross St Pancras, it makes for the perfect start before a weekend getaway in Europe on the eurostar!
The food was good, the decor was nice, the service was a mixed bag. We (2 of us) got seated at a corner so tight we had to sit sideways lest our knees are on top of each other. There were long gaps before order was taken and mains to be served. When we asked the manager to move seats because by that time there were plenty of empty tables she gave us a better table with a sour face. She didn't even say "enjoy" or "here you go" after dropping our mains. I wanted to try the namesake dessert but the whole experience just made me want to finish dinner and go. Me skipping dessert ? Anyone who knows me would know it's a big deal. The place is not cheap either so I thought I'd at least get a smile with the service. In summary, go there for the food and the drinks and make sure if anything didn't feel right tell them right away because they won't be proactive making sure (or even asking) that everything is all right.
Pricey with a side of pretentious. Came for brunch. Turns out they dont do weekend brunch so we settled for a sunday roast. Well that looked good on the menu but in reality... Small portions and the roast beef was very tough.
Bit sad as the place was listed as a top breakfast. Skip it and go to caravan or grainstore up the road.
On the place side..the decor was great and its located right next to the station.
Whilst the venue is pleasant enough, you might find it difficult to hold a private conversation due to the layout. The breakfast was not of good quality for the cost; some food overcooked, hard tomatoes. I would not eat breakfast here again. I would still use the bar, that did not disappoint.
Visited the place for brunch on a Saturday and I couldn't be more impressed. Wasn't too busy which I was delighted with. Especially seeing as it was the first official day of summer holidays. Staff were a very good balance between attentive and not bothering you too much. It's the small things they do that make a difference compared to lesser establishments. Like whoever delivered the food knowing exactly who ordered what and not publicly announcing what youre having. Food was very well presented and was delicious. Of course being a Michelin stared restaurant you get quality over quantity but that is not a criticism. We did not leave unsatisfied. The complementary Bellinis were a great touch.
Signs outside kings cross could direct us to the place a little better though as you have to go through another hotel to get to it. All in all we were all very happy.
I am so impressed with this place. I saw mixed reviews so here it is for those of you on the fence - GO. Classy venue, good lighting, nice bar downstairs if you want drinks before, proper napkins (this is important to me!), great and reasonable wine collection, food was really special - their pie is to die for. Not too loud so you can actually talk, very attentive staff and the salted truffles - I moaned a little When I tried them. Super impressed with the manager and I will definitely be back. Need I say more?
Definitely recommend this restaurant for brunch! Close to St Pancras International and Kings Cross station makes it a great place to stop off if waiting for a train. The gorgeous and elegant decor creates a relaxed atmosphere. The art work on the wall as you go up the stairs is worth looking at! The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. All meals are beautifully presented and taste devine. I can recommend both the Haggis and duck egg and The eggs Royale!
The staff were attentive and very welcoming. The food was very enjoyable. The ambience completed making for a wonderful evening. I'm looking forward to going back.
