Do not get their burgers, avoid it like a plague. The patty is thin and tenderized, it doesn't taste like beef at all. Their famous milkshake is nothing but thick, you can barely taste the fruit in it. To make matter worse, they only accept cash, which put me on spot since I am not a cash person.
Love this place. 34 years coming here and now I get to start the tradition with my son!!
Always delicious burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes. Accepting debit was a huge improvement as I never carry around cash. Do expect a lineup as Peters is busy all day, every day.
After listening to the amazing 2cellos concert and escaping by driving into a secret passageway that opened into the floor we made our way onto the driving battleground known as 16th. While dodging projectiles, curses, and red turtle shells we made it safely to the sanctuary of peter's drive in. A wonderful establishment that had sold the same burgers (made from the same family of cows I suspect) for decades. Highly reccomend stopping at this place until the heat dies down and you get a nice power up to escape Calgary.
Amazing place to go to, its delicious, and the family size fries, is huge.
Delicious food! Definitely worth the money, the food is amazing. The shakes are THE BEST!
I have been going Peter's since I was a child. It still has the best burgers. I am 62 years old by the way
Went there for fries which have been good in past. But today they were not fresh. Shriveled & dried out
Truly a must visit site. Wishing from the bottom of my heart that a branch opens up in Kelowna !
Not a bad spot to grab something to eat. Definitely a bit over hyped
Divey, but delicious. A Calgary landmark. Iconic in the drive through game. Cheap and delicious. Nothing fancy here just good old classics.
Overrated. Nothing special. Food poisoning.
Used to get taken to Peter's often when younger, always asked for no relish (always recieved a burger with relish).
Was in town with relatives who desperately wanted to go to Peter's again, after having not been their since childhood. Ordered a burger each (this time my burger actually came with no relish, improvement!). The burgers toppings were good and fresh, but the burger patties seemed like store bought freezer patties. They had the shape, rubberyness, and taste. The fries were good but not amazing. The best part of the fries was the lady in another car that bought a whole box just to throw at the seagulls in the parking lot which kept the plethora of birds away from us. Milkshakes were good and thick, better than an average shake, but not the best I've had.
4 of us got another and shake each and shared a family fries for just under 60$.
That night my wife was sick with food poisoning and I wasn't feeling to hot as well.
Burgers and fries are good but not worth the hype and crazy lines. I do enjoy the milkshakes though...peach, mango, Oreo is my go-to mix.
Probably the best milkshake shack in all of the city. Be carful when you order food here too they have huge portions. A family size really means a family size.
The experience always seems to be a coin flip. Sometimes fries are nice and crisp. Sometimes soggy. Sometimes right order. sometimes not. The food when done right is very good. Just seem to be able to find a more consistent experience elsewhere.
Same old Peters', same old experience and great food. As always a family favorite!
Its Peter's. With so many options of milkshake flavours you can always try something new if you want. Also their burgers aee delicious.
Great food. We go there every time we can when in Calgary
OMG!! I can t even believe this burger i had. How delicious . I was looking for a veggie burger since ages and i finally found and it was amazing. Loved it loved it so much. I libe in ontario and i am sure if i come to calgary i will definitely have this first. Nice seating areas near the place. Amazing staff. Everything was just good.
I feel sorry for people in Calgary having no place that can properly make a good burger. I had a cheeseburger from Peters and it was pretty sad. I actually would've preferred a whopper or big mac. Come to Winnipeg and try a real burger from any one of a dozen places in the city - Dairi Wip, Mrs Mike's, VJ's, Dairy Delight, Junior's, George's, Skinner's, Red Top, Blondie's, Salisbury House, Nuburger or even McD's.
Worth the wait, if you got some spare time and able wait. Go for it
Its all about the fun & chaos of this Drive In. The Onion rings and Milkshakes are absolutely the best.
Absolutely terrible I'll never go again... burgers used to be classic. Now they are history.. new owner has lost the mojo.. the magic that's for sure. Sorry to say.
Now this review isn't as straightforward as others...
There are 3-star points and 5-star points here. History, popularity, service, parking & cleanliness are all 5. Food quality, price for product, wait times are all 3.
Balance them out -- lands at 4. If 'greasy', 'fried', 'from concentrate' & 'time-on-the-toilet' are all things desirable, jump in line and don't forget the onion rings!
Such a classic burger joint! Consistently delicious, straightforward food, and a huge milkshake selection. I would like to see a small size for the shakes though, I can never get through one and it s such a waste! Still, like their slogan says, I can t just drive by Peter s!
So disappointed this time. poor quality very bland. soggy and old fires. ordered family size hardly could have a handful. we also ordered triple cheese burger and double. both tasted like McDonald's. I'm not really sure what happened to Peter's. Last time I had it was a couple months ago and it was much better.not coming back to this place again for sure. couldn't even convince ourselves to get a milk shake after our food this time. like we always did.
I dont recommend this place if the quality is going to stay like this
Peters
Milkshakes. Onion rings.
That s what pops into my head when I think of Peters . Their milkshakes, delicious. You have to wait a tad to actually have a sip but, that isn t compliant.
I would suggest parking and walking up, the drive through takes a bit.
was in Calgary visiting and stayed in the neighbourhood. it was one of the first nice days of the spring so I walked over for a milkshake - apparently lots of others had the same idea! the lines were long and I considered just skipping my treat. so glad I didn't! the staff got through the crowd quickly and my shake was delicious. so good that I went back to try another on my way out of town
Did not live up to the hype. Food was just average and did not like the French fries
This location does not need my comment just pass by and it will talk about it self
We lined up in the actual drive through, it still took 45 minutes. They might be running on less staff except when we got to the window. Nobody inside was wearing a mask and several people working didn't have gloves on. Remember how the original owner had it? They fired people through. It looked like a bee hive inside. Now people are parked 2 blocks down 16th not realizing they have over an hour wait. Its a shame they couldn't sell it to someone that actually knows how to run a business.
Totally delicious place two enjoy awesome tasting food.
Great milk shakes, gotta try the strawberry banana.
Excellent Milkshakes with an insane amount of flavor combinations. The shakes are thick, and not overly sweet. Burgers are delicious and come with 1.5 patties. The regular fixins include a Peters Sauce, which is identical to the deluxe sauce found at Burger Barons in Alberta. Its good, but not 'original'. Fantastic late night location; always busy; always worth the wait.
Best milkshakes and loved their onion rings....not a fan of their burgers though
I live in Montreal, and I went to calgary for trip with friends. This is probably one of their best diners in town.
-
Service: 5 star fast food service. You order from outside through a window.
-
Food: enjoyable hamburgers, fries, smoothies which are to die for! All for 5$

The whole concept of the drive in will have me stopping by everytime I'm in calgary! Give it a try!
Je me souviens
Good burgers if you get the original Peter's burger
Edit: Last visit on January 7/18. Their pricing on the menu is NOT what you get charged. You think you re paying one price and then they RIP YOU OFF! ...so sad for such an iconic calgary business to do something like this. Drive through was sooo slow and every one of the staff that I saw looked sad or angry. Terrible experience.
We got 3 milkshakes as we do every so often, and this time all 3 of us had a feeling of being bloated, first time, different milkshakes from last time, and we had the same flavours.
The name says it all..........Peter's is simply Peter's.........great food, great vibe..........nuff said.
The place was ok. Long line up but quick! Double drive through is definitely smart.
We ordered two cheeseburgers, strawberry milkshake and a strawberry sundae. Honestly, the burger wasn't THAT great. The parties were a little dull and not very flavorful.
The milkshake was HUGE. Not a bad thing however personally I would have liked it to be half the size. Not too sweet but I have had better milkshakes.
The quality of the food is definitely there as advertised, but the flavor could be better :)
I try to get a milkshake here much as possible although I am a bit lactose intolerant
Long wait, pretty pricey. Glad I finally tried it, cheeseburger, onion rings and milkshake were good but will not be in a line that long again. Not worth the time.
The milkshake gives a extremely strong burning aftertaste in your throat
Love Peters. Lots of seating, amazing burgers and amazing shakes.
Orange chocolate is my fav, just like terry s chocolate orange.
Big servings for what you pay, they may have gotten smaller since I last went but still great value and quality for what you pay!
We order 2 veggie burgers with cheese there was so much sauce all over the rapper and all over the bun that you could not pick the thing up to eat it without making a huge mess even after wiping off half the sauce there was still too much also we ordered two chocolate and coconut milk shakes and repeated the order twice and they gave us chocolate shakes with no coconut this was my girlfriends first time in Calgary and ever having Peters after being told many times how great it was not a good experience at all very unsatisfied customers.
Really good milkshakes with stand out flavour options. Burger patties were ok. The fries were ok.
I never eat at Peter s Drive In. I find their food extremely greasy, and frankly, lacking any real taste. Their milkshakes are also really bland.
However, the main reason I m leaving a review today is because I had an extremely unpleasant experience with one of the ?employees/management there. As you know, Peter s is adjacent to the very busy 16th ave. Due to the chaos during rush hour, that area is best avoided (I m sure most can agree). Today, I was trying to get to CoCo s which is in the strip mall beside Peter s. I looked for parking and couldn t find any and was ready to tear my hair out. Obviously, I couldn t park on 16th ave, so I resorted to temporarily park at Peter s (they had an entire lot that was empty). I assure you I do not feel entitled to park on private property, but please keep in mind, I have never been to that strip mall before and had no idea where to go/park. A woman (I can only assume is management) then approaches me while I was walking around and confronts me. I explained to her that I m lost and that I m trying to find entry to the strip mall. She was incredibly hostile and antagonistic throughout our interaction despite me explaining my reasoning for parking on their property (I even offered to buy a burger). I understand it s frustrating to constantly yell at people to not park in their private parking lot (really, I do), but I felt that her behaviour was inappropriate and extreme. I maintained a calm deameanor until the very end where I eventually called her out. I felt I did not deserve her attitude; I did not hurt her in anyway, I did not cause the amount of inconvenience that warranted her over reaction. And if it were the other way around, I am sure she would have appreciated a more professional tone. Whether she is an employee or the manager, she is representing her business and should never make anyone feel threatened, customer or not. If she had just spoken to me with respect, I would have been more than happy to move my car immediately, no questions asked. This experience has left a very bitter taste in mouth. I feel that if their management can not even handle situations professionally, how can they manage their business holistically? Don t forget you are in the customer service industry, just because I wasn t there to buy a burger today, doesn t mean that I wouldn t have in the future. You have completely lost my business and I won t forget to share this experience.
Milkshake was awesome; burger was decent. The fries had good flavour, but were very soggy and greasy. Overall quite good value for the price
Wanted to see what all buzz was about. The burgers taste like drunk tank burgers. Fries were good
Good food but be clear with your order. They serve many people and we have had times where they made mistakes.
As usual, Peters was not a disappointment. I love coming here and getting a double with the shake of the day. The burgers are juicy, the shake are so thick that you can not suck it though the straw the give you. The fry order you get could be shared with a few people as big as the order is. I make this one of the first stops once I get into town. The long drive in line is worth the wait.
Incredibly slow, but insanely worth it.
Do not expect to come here in a hurry. The line will almost always be long and the wait will almost always be even longer.
HOWEVER, the milkshakes here are to-die-for! They are a must-taste while in Calgary and are worth every second of patience. The food is great, but by no means the main attraction.
I recommend this place to anyone and everyone that enjoys dairy milkshakes (to my knowledge, they do not have alternatives to dairy). This is a must-taste place.
Really great milkshakes and a Calgary classic. Great burgers for a great price.
Best burgers ever! Bring your appetite, the portions are huge. The onion rings are perfect, and the milkshake menu is enormous (and so are the milkshakes).
First off, Peter's is a must go to for anyone coming into Calgary. Their milkshakes are legendary! But their line ups are crazy. Not their fault, but the wait time loses them a star.
Too junkie and greasy for my taste. Besides, there's not even a tiny place to eat you have to sit in your car. I'm a fan of slow food so this is a no no for me.
Quick efficient quality. They're handling the pandemic issues very well also.
Always come here whenever going through Calgary. Their milkshakes are better than yours!
Came in to get a simple order and was rushed by the cashier, Geena who couldn t care less about our orders. Don t know why there was such a rush when their orders weren t coming out any time soon. When we go up to pay the cashier decided to stare at us as obnoxiously until we decided it be appropriate to say hi to her and be friendly, well this chick decides to lean into my car asking me if we have a problem? Excuse me yes I have a problem with how your breathe smells could you back off my car please. Received our drinks and the cashier forgot the bubble gum in our milkshakes and gave us burgers without cheese when I clearly asked for cheese and she repeated the order to have cheese. At this point we ve already left and I called the supervisor on shift since Geena refused to let me speak to her even tho I kept on asking and she completely ignored me. The supervisor told me that she was sorry for how she acted but did not compensate for my incorrect orders and I had already left anyways. Geena is something that would make me not ever want to come back and I not recommend yikes. Supervisor was basically useless I asked her if she could follow up with me and she s basically hangs up without knowing my name or number, how would she be able to follow up then? Clearly doesn t care either just was be fake to get me to stop talking. Why are your employees trying to fight a customer.
