Since the 1960's Peters' Drive in has been a great place to go for hamburgers, shakes and fries! I haven't been here in a while and just last week I was driving by and hungry, opportunity! I stopped in, it was quiet (after 2pm) so I ordered a cheeseburger without relish and a pop and my friend ordered up the same and a small fries for us to share.
The fries are awesome (huge too)! NO salt added, and so very good! Hamburgers are as always, a patty and a half it seems and now you can get lettuce, tomato, onions, etc ( i really don't know if you could get those items before so bear with me on that statement). Yes prices have gone up but so have wages, taxes, utilities, etc. but I still feel it is worth 5 stars and you get your value for your money.

Still a nice burger joint. Even though Peter sold out years ago and the quality assurance went away for the most part. The burgers are still decent, but they have about 1/3 the staff on the floor that they used to 20+years ago, thus you wait WAY LONGER in the vehicle line up. I waited 25 min for 2 cheeseburgers..... COME ON! I won't be inclined to go back again (shaking my head in disappointment of great food of years past....). Thanks Peter (he's dead now), but I don't think I'll be back to that restaurant again. Looking for a new independent burger joint with great food.

I have no idea why this place is so popular. It's like The Emperor has no Clothes . The meat patties taste like frozen grocery store ones drowning in an overpowering and not very good BBQ sauce. If I served that to someone in a different locale and it was judged soley on its merits it would likely be tossed in the garage by anyone with a modicum of taste. The Milkshakes are quite good though..very thick, great variety or flavors. The location on 16th Ave is handy but eating at the picnic tables surrounded by squealing seagulls and motor fumes is hardly endusive to a plea to culinary experience

Went to this place after reading a few good reviews. All of those good reviews were accurate.
The price is great, but the food is even better even if it is simplistic in choice. But the milkshakes, nothing simple about them. Having around 30 different flavours and the option to combine up to three flavours, the choice on what delicious milkshake you'll consume is very hard. Luckily you will have time to decide. The night I went, the drive-in was jam packed, and the walk-up customer lines were just as busy. But the wait was well worth it, and gives you the time to decide on which amazing milkshake to have.
It is probably a little quicker using the drive-thru option compared to walk-up.
Signs says they only take cash and debit, but they will take credit (visa/mastercard). Staff are friendly. Highly recommend eating here over the typical american burger joints (McDonalds, BK, Wendy's, Carl's Jr etc).
Staff were friendly.

Peter's is one of those burger joints that everyone says you have to try and I agree. This place always has customers at all hours of the day which I think speaks for itself. The milkshakes are like ice cream because they're so thick. If you're on Hwy 1 you have to stop here.

Always good. The milkshakes are fantastic, thick and large sized. We always enjoy the single cheeseburgers, family size French fries and onion rings. The sundaes can be made with a multiple of different combinations.

Never going to visit this place again. Huge empty parking lot but won't let you park for just a few minutes. Was gonna do a run and then buy a shake from them after. I guess I'm not doing that now. Being di(ks to your potential customers isn't going to bring you anymore business. Goodbye.

I still don't understand why this place is so popular in Calgary. The milkshake is too think to be easily sucked in through a straw. The burger and fries portion are big, but that is about it. They are pretty normal, typical homemade style, nothing to write home about. I may still bring visitors to this place because it is iconic, to checkin, but certainly not for the food taste.

Best

Been here numerous times throughout my life, different owners and different recipes. Nice to see they've gone back to basics, burgers have the same traditional taste and also offer the option to customize them. Shakes are thick and delicious as per always, nice option to blend 3 flavours.

Finally decided to try this popular burger place.

Finally decided to try this popular burger place.

I got a double burger with small fries.

The small fries was rather large, and greasy. The burger was slighly undercooked, comes with a large home style bun, not toasted.

They are doing pretty well, always lineups. Maybe its the special sauce smudged in the dough bun that makes people come back.

To quote my girl Oprah "you get 5 stars, and you get 5 stars, everybody gets 5 stars!" Cause legit this place is the best. I've never actually eaten here simply cause I'm lactose intolerant but weak willed and milkshakes are my Achilles heel so i try to avoid it, HOWEVER this place gets five stars cause I have a right hand drive car and y'all have a drive through on both sides of the building for me to use! Bless your hearts and busy business!

I m shocked that this place gets good reviews. The service is terribly slow in the drive through, the burgers are mediocre and slapped together, the fries are ok at best, and the staff is impatient and rude.

Last time we were there, the woman working the drive through was incredibly rude and she kept cutting me off as I ordered and made a snarky comment. Won t be going back there, I d rather go to Five Guys or even A&W.

The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the milkshakes are decent.

I love this place. I went there for my first time and and i get Coca Mocha, Oreo, and Coconut. You really have to try that combination if you love chocolate. They give you straws for milkshakes, but their milkshakes were so thick it took quite a but to use the straw to drink the milkshake. You should get a spoon instead tho lol, that's how thick it is. You could also just wait for it to melt tho.

I can see the appeal of old fashioned drive in style. You don't drive in though, just walk up. Some tables outside to sit at. Tons of people. Open until 2am. Food was sub par. Not celiac friendly.

the food was fine, when prepared properly. went there last night and had no issues. went there on my way home and they got all 3 burger orders wrong, and when i spoke to them to fix it, the supervisor paula was hardcore sassing me and my sister. spent half an hour battling with this woman who thinks people throw out whole burgers. thank god there's a peters drive in in red deer, feel bad for those who have to work with paula

A place you need to visit atleast once just to say you did it. Their shakes are great no matter what flavours you choose and the food is pretty decent too but hard to match the shakes. Never a bad experience here, just crazy long lines!

Ordered a root beer milkshake (my fav) and it was super sour, with a weird after taste .It barely even tasted like root beer. I asked the cashier if this is what it should taste like and she said yes with a smile... She didn't try to accommodate or offer to remake it. Paid for a second drink.
And our food order was missed and completely forgotten about
Quality definitely has gone down

I don't understand the hype for this place. You literally get 1.5 patties for a burger. Not one thick one and one thin one. You get a regular sized party and another cut in half to for a semi circle. It's not considering the meat to bun ratio. In my opinion, I feel A&W have better burgers.

Good
