I just wanted to take my mom horse back riding for her birthday but since we showed up a few minutes late the owner, named Jim, was EXTREMELY rude to us and refused to let us ride.We tried to call ahead to let them know we were running late and he hung up in our faces. When we showed up not only did we not get to ride horses even though they were still doing paperwork with other customers we were treated horribly, and the owner even tried to STILL CHARGE US!!!! Some people lack customer service skills so much they should not be allowed to run businesses. Jim needs a new job, something that doesn't require people skills or hygiene considering there was NO soap in the bathrooms either EW! . I would rate 0 stars if I could.
Beautiful place. Had my cousin's wedding here, and it was a wonderful event.
Went to the Thanksgiving day buffet at the Lodge restaurant with family. It was good food in a very rustic atmosphere. Our server was extremely diligent in tending to the table's needs. The entertainment in the Lodge great room was top notch and kept the children well entertained.
It's pretty bad when you choose to eat snacks out of the machine instead of eating in the restaurant
Beautiful building with great trails to hike right outside!
The trails are to die for! Dining in restaurant was a FULL sensory experience BUT the big fireplace has been broken in there for a very long time. It should be lit from fall to spring. Big letdown. I traveled an hour away, passed many other eateries, just to eat in front of the big fireplace. So I Youtubed to get a crackling fireplace at my table on my Kindle. :-/
Nicer service and food than most Grafton places. Fair warning: their "cheesecake" is more like ricotta pie
Very nice place people are friendly lots of cool stuff to do and see
Lodge is beautiful. The lobby with the fireplace is very cozy. Room was as advertised. Pool facilities have a beautiful view and were very clean. The restaurant experience left a lot to be desired, however. Sparse service, wait staff was not friendly, salad was inedible. Lasagna was good but slightly burnt. We may come back to stay at the lodge again but will be venturing out for meals.
My wife and I spent a wonderful night here. It a beautiful hotel and great room. The restaurant is nice. The pool is very nice and the views are amazing. It is a wonderful place to stay after the drive down the river. We will visit again.
Great place! History, hiking, restaurant and nice indoor pool.
Beautiful Day For a Ride to Pere Marquette with my Mom that i'm visiting for the Holidays.
You wouldn't want an especially large conferences here, but with a medium sized group of people its great. The food was all very good, especially the fried chicken. Our room had two queen size beds that were very comforrable and everything seemed very clean. I guess the only downfall is that the wifi is a little wifi, but its not too big of a deal.
Although we had to wait for an hour (I think a fluke incident) for a table the food was really good the service was good.
We stayed overnight for a kid's birthday and had a great time. Rooms were priced reasonably, with two queen beds, and we had a balcony into the pool area (where our party was). The main lodge was a great place to socialize in the evening. One caveat - WiFi was not strong enough to handle a Chromecast very well.
The food was average. The teenage servers were more focused on socializing with one another than focusing on their customers.
I go up there a few times a year with my husband and dog to hike. It's located in a scenic area, just north of the adorable town of Grafton, IL. I've only stayed in the cabins before, which were cozy. They've got a nice dining area and their staff was helpful. They frequently host events in their large lodge area and there is also a winery and pool/hottub. It's great for a day visit or a weekend visit.
Absolutely amazing. The view was amazing, the room was spacious and clean, and the restraint was great as well!
Just had our annual family fried chicken dinner and it was wonderful! We always enjoy the lodge and especially sitting by the big fireplace.
My friends and I went to an event on April 19 and we spent the night. Rooms are very nice and roomy and were extremely clean. Staff was courteous and friendly. I think the only downfall was the breakfast buffet. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious and plenty of choices but the food was luke warm at best. Other than that the stay was pleasant. I prefer my food HOT. Oh when I made my reservation check in time I was told 3pm. Which is still true but on email notifications it says 4pm. That needs to be changed. And I said we had AARP are there no sr discounts? It shouldn't matter which day of the week on that. And why $99 on weekdays but more on weekends.
Everything is the same every day.
Nice people, beautiful setting, rooms outdated but clean. Family enjoyed
A great weekend getaway. Plenty of fun things to do around the area
Wonderfully delicious lunch menu for sure. Friendly people run the place too.
Pere Marquette is beautiful in the Fall! The Lodge is a perfect match to this natural beauty, with the great wood and stone work. This is a perfect little get away from the hustle and bustle of St Louis. Very much recommended!
We dropped by the winery inside on a tasting tour, and I have to tell you, this was the classiest winery I've been to. The ambiance was that of a classy parlor room, the service was incredible, and the wines were fantastic and unique. We will absolutely be back!
Came here today (Christmas) for lunch so disappointed it was one of the worst places I've been to in a very long time. Charging people $27 for that crap they call food (I don't think so) Food was cold by they way it looked it had been out for a long long time. Food on the floor rolls as hard as hockey pucks just plan gross. Waiting for 2 hours to get in I was excited I just knew this was going to be so worth it. Man was I wrong if McDonald's had a buffet it would be pretty close to this. Don't even get me started on the restrooms. My local gas station is better
The lodge is clean and kid friendly, which made a huge difference for me.
Very good service and a beautiful lounge area. Secluded with good hiking trails. Try It.
Never been in rooms, but the food is fantastic. Went to stay in room. But was full
Spent Easter brunch at Pere Marquette good food, good service, a litte crowded
The Fall colors were tremendous! The views were spectacular. Fried chicken dinner at the Lodge can't be beat!
Be aware!!! We ve been visiting the lodge s restaurant and winery for years. Finally we had the opportunity to stay overnight and were very excited to be in this unique and beautiful atmosphere. As soon as we got back home and unpacked, I realized that I ve left my fairly expensive electric toothbrush in the room s bathroom. No big deal I thought, We will call the hotel and have an excuse to go back the following weekend and have a brunch there while picking it up. Few phone calls later I was reassured by the front desk manager that according to house keeping, there was no toothbrush found in our room. The front desk manager went as far as suggesting the possibility that I walked out with the toothbrush in my hand out of the room and left it somewhere outside. Great disappointment!!
We've stayed here relatively regularly over the course of several years at the end of December. We've stayed in both the CCC cottages and the historic wing of the Lodge--both are comfortable and modernized rooms that retain their historic character. We love the great hall with its massive fireplace and comfortable chairs and can spend hours there enjoying the ambience. The restaurant is pretty good (standard Midwestern comfort food) and there is also a small bar on the other side of the great hall where one can order a glass of local wine or a cocktail. Families often meet here for Christmas; the lodge is very (but not obnoxiously) child-friendly and it's fun to see them running around and enjoying themselves. The park trails are easily accessible from the lodge, and the Brussels ferry is just a half mile down the road. Altogether a homey, welcoming place.
Quiet and relaxing, great destination after driving up the Great River Road along the Mississippi from Alton.
Everything was great! Food, service, room and convenience. Can't wait to do it again.
The lobby is lovely and the service was very courteous. The wine in the winery tasting room was too sweet for me, though
I love the restaurant. Best of all of the State Lodges we have stayed at. I have picky eaters in my family and they cannot wait to eat here.
Lodge is always clean and staffed 2ith friendly people
Rude staff, terrible management. Only redeeming quality was the view.
My daughter was married at Pere Marquette last week and I cannot tell you how happy we were with everything!! The staff, the lodging for 80 people, the reception room, the food!!! Everythi g was 5 star! Thank you all for making this day magical!
Great weekend get away. Very honoring of current COVID-19 regulations.
Spent many Memorial Day weekends at a family reunion at the Lodge and we love it every year!
We went to a mystery theatre dinner at the lodge, with a fried chicken dinner. The dinner and show were wonderful.
We visited just to see the lodge and accommodations. The lodge was built in the 1930's-1940's by the CCC. The views are great and everything inside and out seems very well kept.
I cannot speak to the quality of the services(restaurant, pool, winery, etc.), everything did look rustic/fancy and there are many rooms in the lodge and a number of cabins with multiple rooms.
Went there for lunch, and was terribly disappointed; our saving grace was our waitress, who profusely apologized for the kitchen. It took way too long to get our food; tables after us had gotten their plates and finished before we ever got ours, and we didn't order anything complicated. Whichever chef came up with the concept of the vegetarian dishes...mashed potatoes do not make a 'burger.' I had a very sad portobello, stuffed with rice that was undercooked; I took the filler out and combining the garnish on my parents plates, was able to make it edible. The sweet potato fries were cold and limp. Thank goodness our waitress was so great! (only reason I gave it two stars)
I've never stayed at the lodge itself, but my family has gone to a lot of the fun events the lodge hosts as well as hiking the park. It's always been a fun experience with very clean facilities!
Ran out of rooms for our reunion, but we were able to look around the cabins and lodge. Cabins were nice and had enough beds for 4-5 people. They are pricey though... Make sure to check your bill to make sure you're not overcharged, Saturday was $150 and Sunday night $99 but some family were charged $150 for both nights. Public restroom are clean, but need either paper towels or movement sensor sinks for better hygiene.
Lots of activities and a large lobby to accommodate most activities. Good food at the restaurant
We visited Pere Marquette with friends and had some wine and sat on the patio. We could hear the music which was playing inside and it was a very nice experience for the whole day
Cabin stay In De Soto 311, what a beautiful property! The Lodga is kept in pristine shape, the pool and spa was perfect. Staff incredibly attentive and professional. Will definitely return.
This is a beautiful location. I've attended two weddings at the lodge and one of them I helped a little with the setup and teardown. The staff is always very accommodating and helpful.
Roomy and nice, however our room was located adjacent to the loading dock. They had a group conference that evening, and additionally, the facility experienced a power outage, lasting well through the night into the next morning. At 130 AM, the catering company lit up flood lights and used diesels and hydraulic lifts to load up their stock, noisily awakening us. The desk clerk said it was raccoons. Don't accept room 227, but better still go elsewhere!
My family loves visiting the Lodge and eating at the restaurant. The area is beautiful with several well maintained hiking trails. The Lodge itself is historic and a really cool building. The restaurant is delicious and surprisingly affordable at all times of day. I will definitely continue to visit!
Had dinner with my family, had to have multiple dishes remade due to it having items that we asked not to have due to allergy or preference (vegetarian). In the end the server didn't charge us for these items. My steak was cooked a little to much for my preference, but it tasted fine.
Great service, fantastic food and drinks, spacious banquet hall.
The food was really good but our service bad! They weren't busy at all and we had empty sodas eating our appetizer and server took forever to come back for anything. Not good
Beautiful place with a wide range of attractions. Easy to recommend for anyone looking to hold an event.
Pete Marqutte is great. Hiking trails, horseback riding, camp sites and cabins, and a great lodge. They hold lots of events for kids and adults.
Steak was tough and waiter replies with oh sorry about that..you want a box. A waiter at another table pulls his phone out while he is at the table to take the order. The onion straws were excellent.
This place was quite the let down. It smells musty and our room was dirty. Our coffee machine still had old coffee in the bottom of it from the people before us. The restaraunt is dark, dingy and overpriced with mediocre food. You can see the dirt/oil lines on the back of the chairs. Not to mention, you sink when you sit in them because the springs are broken. Our key card had to be reactivated 3 times. We paid for the romance package...... save your money. The champagne is gross and they ran out of chocolates; so they replaced it with a meat and cheese plate without telling us. (I'm vegetarian)
I think once upon a time this place was unique and awesome, but they've not kept up with it at all.
I won't return and would never recommend friends or family stay there.
Beautiful location, great rooms. Loved the view. Would definitely love to stay again. I would probably stay longer and bring my family. It was peaceful and enjoyable.
It was a very beautiful setting for a wedding. Staff was friendly. It was very clean. There was WiFi available.
We went to the restaurant with our grandsons,, Joe was a great waiter, very good service and loved the chicken! Grandsons club sandwiches were huge and full of meat, and you must try the catfish cakes appetizer! We had a good time, and so happy they had reopened from the covid restriction!!!!
