I came here for my first Devacut in 2017, and got the best haircut of my life. I've since tried other salons closer to home, nothing else compares. My go-to stylist is Xochilt - she does a great job, and is incredibly warm and personable. During COVID-19, I've always felt safe and well-cared for in the salon, especially because of the limited number of clients allowed at once.

LOVE this place. I got a DevaCut and my hair has never looked better! My stylist was so nice and really communicated what she was doing with my hair. Highly Recommend if you have curly hair or any hair for that matter.

Penny Lane has taken the time to really figure out the safest way to conduct business and is really clear on both the steps they've taken and their expectations of the client. They have implement plexiglass shields and hand washing procedures and overall just made me feel very comfortable. Diana did a great job on my hair, takes the time to listen to what I want, and was very clear on the safely precautions she was actively taking part in. I am moving out of state but have loved going here for six years and would definitely recommend!

I came to Penny Lane for the infamous Deva curl cut. It was an awesome experience! Jonathan was my stylist. First they cut your hair dry. Then wash it with devacurl products. Then style for you. During the entire process they describe what they are doing so that you can learn to properly care for your own curls. I have fought my curls my entire life. And thanks to Jonathan in no longer straighten my hair. Best decision I every made for my hair!

John was great cutting my fine hair. Relaxed atmosphere and great service. I will be back for the second cut.

My wife and I drive 10 miles from the suburbs into the city to get our hair cut here. There's water, wine and beer at reception. My wife has curly hair and they do an incredible job of cutting and styling it (If you have curly hair and you haven't been to a salon that specializes in curly cuts, you absolutely have to try this place).

I'm pretty picky about my hair and have been through a lot of salons and barber shops that can't compete with this place. In case you're wondering, I always give a new place two or four tries before deciding if I like it or want to stay; hair can be a tricky and personal thing, so I think it makes sense to give they stylist or barber a couple attempts to understand what you want.

At any rate, I've been going to Penny lane for over a year and it's easily the best I've been to in Chicago.

They got me in same day for a trim. Emily was awesome and really took the time and put in alot of effort with my long hair. Totally recommend.

To my fellow curly haired brethren, this salon is worth ALL the hype. I've been getting my haircut by Jon since moving to Chicago and my curls have never looked so good. They handle your hair with such care, each cut and styling method truly is personalized. They have various tiers of stylists with different levels of experience and curly expertise.

From the moment I walked in I felt welcome. My hair stylist was Trent! He was EXTREMELY knowledgeable in curly hair and knew exactly what he was doing. I'm very happy with how my hair came out. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment. If you're looking for an expert on curly hair, Trent is your man! I highly recommend him.

I had an excellent experience here. I am transitioning to curly from years of flat ironing, and Jonathan taught me so many new techniques I never would have picked up from all the YouTube videos I've been watching. This is because he was able to analyze my hair in person and give me a personalized experience. I am so beyond thankful-- he has really transformed my curls. I would 100% recommend spending the money to get a Deva Cut here.

This is only my second time there but I will be loyal. Both times were a pseudo last minute appointment (booked about a week or so prior) both times I loved the person who did my hair. Johnathan and Trent respectively. Very knowledgeable about curly hair, various textures understand what I want and looks good with the shape of my face. All of which is like sort of confusing to me. Anywho.

I also love the decor, suitcase shelves, lots of plants kewl photography. I didn't even look at a magazine or my phone because I enjoyed the decor.

Everyone here is friendly and professional and I've gotten consistently great haircuts from Jonathan! The atmosphere is usually fairly relaxed and quiet when I've been there. Like many salons tips are cash only.

Excellent salon for curly hair! That is something that is very hard to find, but that a lot of women (and men!) need.

I moved from DC to Chicago last year and thus needed to find a new hair stylist, something that causes me great stress every time I have to do it. I have had SO MANY bad haircuts in my life, so I will only see someone who specializes in curly cuts. I also know a great curly cut can be incredibly expensive.
Enter Penny Lane. Not only is my haircut incredible every single time (shout-out to Laura!) but it s practically a steal compared to the cuts I got in DC. Not only this, but when I went to another salon for color and it turned out disastrous, Diana was able to fix me right up. If you have curly hair, this is the place for you.
In addition, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to get a cut in what was an INCREDIBLY safe & sanitary environment. Everything was squeaky clean, socially distanced where possible, and masked where not.

Fantastic for curly hair. If you've had bad experiences with other places ruining your hair and are afraid to get your hair cut, this is the place for you. Alexia took her time with me to explain and did a great Deva curl hair cut. Now I know how to make my hair look great every day, easy.

I went for a Devacut. I had an incredible experience! I really thought after chemically strengthen my hair, and the damage that it cost would never bring back my curls. Trent was very helpful and answer all my questions and concerns. I highly recommend this place and my stylist Trent. He talked me through the whole process and taught how to take care of my hair. I left very happy and with my curls back!

Inexpensive and stellar quality. Sam Umstead is the BEST! And of course so are all the other stylists here... it's one talented, fun team in a warming, comfortable, eclectic space. I'm someone who doesn't spend a lot to get my hair cut, but when I decided to grow out my pixie, the cheap hair cut spots just weren't doing it for me. I've had 3 haircuts now at Penny Lane and even though I feel like I need another touch-up desperately, I keep getting compliments on the cut I have as it grows out. It takes talent to cut a growing-out pixie that looks good in all stages. Try Penny Lane and you won't regret it.

Loved my experience here!! The staff is great, the environment is awesome, and I got an amazing haircut! I got my very first Devacut and I LOVE it!! My stylist walked me through every part of it, but we also talk about products, my routine, what I can do to make my curls better, what to stay away from. It was just an amazing experience!! I can't wait to go back!!

I have been to penny lane twice and my curls are more defined and healthier than they ever have been. Laura is a curl wizard and I couldn t be happier with the results. Penny Lane is the best! Jonathan is amazing, and always makes the ideas I have about my hair even better. The whole team is really lovely and make you feel at home.

If you have curly hair, you should go here. I have hair that's mostly straight with a few random curls, and it's always a challenge for stylists. This salon uses the deva curl approach, and it's really helped to get my hair in better shape. I go to Coral, and she's been excellent about working with me and my changing hairstyles.

The staff here is also very friendly and organized. They have a text-based appointment confirmation system, which is great. You get beer, tea, or coffee during your cut. And, they have been great about fitting me in when my schedule gets a little crazy. Overall, I would highly recommend, whether your hair is curly or straight.

My experience here was absolutely fabulous. It was my first time getting a curly cut and let's say I will be going back. My stylist Jonathan was great, he was informing me of ever step he was taking while cutting my hair which made me feel very comfortable. The salon was nice and clean and the staff was also very polite. Overall a great place to get a curly haircut I left very satisfied.

Remarked salon is such an amazing salon. They are so friendly and accommodating to customers. It feels like family when I go there. I have been going there for 5 years and I can't imagine going anywhere else.

I took my 2 yr old daughter who has unruly curly hair. I'm always really happy with her cut and the service is great. All the staff at the salon are so friendly.

I came in with two photos of hair and asked for sometime in between the two, and Emily crushed it! She also has done a phenomenal job with my wife s curly hair.

Went in for my first ever curly cut and couldn't have been happier with the results. I get stressed and nervous about haircuts because of bad past experiences at different salons, but I felt very comfortable here. Trent was my stylist and I was very impressed with how much knowledge he had. I felt like I left with not only a great haircut, but a better understanding of my hair and how to care for it. I follow a lot of curly haired folks on YouTube, reddit and anywhere I can find them, but even with having all that I still found it very valuable (worth the price) to have a professional give you opinions and tips on YOUR specific hair type. I plan to continue to come in for cuts when I need them and I definitely recommend Trent for anyone thinking about booking an appointment. :) They are also very strict and responsible with the covid guidelines so you will feel safe here.

I absolutely LOVE Penny Lane Studios. As a curly girl who lived in NYC for many years I was spoiled by the ability to go to Devachan Salon for my curly cuts. After moving to Chicago I spent a good 6 years trying various stylists to tame my curls. Finally I found Coral and the staff at Penny Lane and my heart is so happy. Coral is absolutely amazing with curly hair. Not only is she a Deva trained stylist, she also trains other people in the methods, so she's always up to date on the current methods, and is really at the top of her curly hair game. I've also witnessed other stylists transform curly guys and gals and they appear to be just as talented (there were legit tears at the results people). The vibe is equal parts Logan Square awesomeness, chill laid back, and totally adorable. Throw in a dog or two and I'm in heaven! As long as I live in Chicago Coral & Penny Lane will be my go to for hair. And if I move? I may just come back just for haircuts!!

I've lived a long time with hair-hatred until I started coming here. If you're wavy or curly and want to have your hair treated with expert care, and be educated in how to treat it right, this is the place. I keep saying, "Alexa is a magician". Staff are friendly. Salon has a great vibe.

Ask for Diana! Outstanding colorist, stylist, and overall amazing human. On my first appt she taught me how to style / blow dry my hair and it transformed my routine for the better. You'll have a wonderful experience under her care!

I wish I had the experience I'm reading in these reviews. I was told I'd get an email with instructions on what to do with my hair prior to my appointment for a Deva cut which sadly I didn't. I was flying all day so I wasn't able to call.... long story short, I felt like the girl who cut my hair was inexperienced with the Deva cut. Maybe she just started but she didn't seem confident. One of the other girls gave her suggestions on how to dry my hair because somehow my hair was less curly than when I do it on my own. She even asked to see a photo of how my hair looks naturally. After the first time drying it looked lifeless and she wet it again to start over. I went home and styled it myself and I'm not 100% happy - I wish it had more shape. Although my first impression and experience wasn't great, I have a friend who goes here and I love her hair so I have hope. If I'm back I might just wait and book an appointment with her girl.

If you have curly hair, this is the best place in Chicago. It's hard to get an appointment, but oh so worth it.

I love Penny Lane studios. Coral, Ari, and all the stylists are talented and amazing and Coral's little dog Bruce makes it even more cheerful. I am always happy with my hair when I leave. Several of the stylists know the Deva method for cutting and styling curly hair. This is an independent business and they also create wigs for theater and performance. I'm happy to recommend them.

I went in to see Trent for my very first curly cut after deciding to go curly full-time. He is a WEALTH of knowledge. He talked me through every step of caring for my curls, we discussed products and how to use them, and of course I got an amazing haircut. My hair is looking better than ever and I know it s only going to get better long term because Trent gave me all the info I could possibly need! 10/10 will be seeing him again for my next cut!!

Had a layer cut into the bottom of my mid-back length hair that looks like 8 month's of growth on an forgotten undercut. Tried to rationalize with myself for a week and went in to speak with the owner, who kind of apologized and gave me conditioner samples like that was going to fix it? Really disappointing all around.

Absolutely heartbroken.

When I moved into the neighborhood I was afraid I wasn't going to find an affordable place to get a good haircut. This little hidden gem is perfect. A staff of stylists with some interesting creative backgrounds (check out their website). I'm a sucker for dogs, so when Charlie walked up and sniffed me, I was sold. Looking through their website again now, I see the do wigs and weddings, so thought I'd mention that for anyone who finds it helpful.

Absolute best salon for Curly Girl - Deva cuts. There's free parking available, they'll give you a beer, and there's salon dogs to pet - what more could you ask for? I've been going to Penny Lane for at least the last six years. Skilled staff, friendly, love it!

Went this Saturday for a DevaCut for both my daughter and I. John was super friendly. He respected my wishes for my daughter (wanted to keep most of the length) and even reduced the cost because he didn t do the whole styling process with her (she has a TON of hair and LITTLE patience LOL). And my hair? TO DIE FOR! I absolutely love it. My curls have never looked this good. And this morning? I just sprayed some water on it and BOING! Perfection. Super happy camper. I will def be back in 4-6 months as he recommended for my trim.

Great at curly cuts!! If you have curly hair (or not) you have to come here. They cut your hair while it's dry and show you how to style and what products to use on curly hair. Coral and Alexa are both awesome at doing curly cuts and color.

I live in the neighborhood and I always walk by this place but never walked in because their chairs are always full. It's a good clean place. Maybe when I pass by and its empty I'll get my hair done.

There was a mixup with my first appointment but they were able to schedule me in the day after. My stylist was Lora, she took the time to understand my hair routine and texture, what my goal is and discuss how to get there. She did a great job, very skillful and she gave me mini Deva curl bottles for the appointment mix up.
The first apointment completely met my expectstions and I got complements on my hair from two random people right after.
I'll write an update for the next visits.

I am not one to put reviews online but I love Penny Lane so much and I have been so impressed by their handling of COVID-10 that I needed to tell the world! I was lost when I moved to Chicago about where to get my hair done, I went to multiple salons and never found anyone I liked. Then I found Lisa who does an amazing job! My color is always on point, she's always down to try something fun and I get tons of compliments on my hair every time I leave. I get excited about my appointments and would recommend them to anyone! Also with COVID they are super safe, they have up barriers between the stations and just go above and beyond. Please go here, they really deserve your business.

Curly girls absolutley need to try the deva cut and deva curl products. Total game changer. Alexa listens to your issues and wants and individualizes the process to fit
