The Pelham course is in good shape except for the green on 14th which has always been a problem, and having only blue flags makes it hard to to know pin position if you don t have a laser scope or superhero vision. Left me with a lot of longer than normal putts, not too fun but should be an easy fix with DIFFERENT COLORED FLAGS.
One thing that could make this course worth it....FLIP THE FRONT AND THE BACK. The 18th would be 9 and have great access to get food and drinks, and the par 5 9th would be a great finishing hole with the club house in the back ground.
Flip the front and back and I would play and recommend this course always, but for now...meh

Split Rock used to be the best municipal course in the city. Now it s astonishingly bad. The greens and fairways are in acceptable shape, and that s where the good news ends. Bunkers are completely full of weeds and hornets. To say there are trillions of mosquitos swarming the course would be an understatement bring a bug net and malaria drugs.

I hope at some point the city invests some money to fix this course up. At the very least, spray some pesticides to kill the mosquitos. For $54, there are much better courses just a bit further out of the city, so spend your money elsewhere.

The park is very crowded and people would often get naked in this park. People also tend to play loud music in the park.

The naked people isn't a issue tho. Cuz 2/3 they were hot, or I was drunk.

Played Pelham GC October 7th and no mosquitos in sight. I was very pleasantly surprised by this course after seeing a lot of 1 star reviews, but this was the nicest public course I played in the NYC area this season, and for only $35 for 18 including cart. Fairways are wide and forgiving, the course is not too challenging but the layout is fun and varied, and greens in great condition.

I had my wedding and reception here August 2016. This place is absolutely perfect!!! The staff caters to your every need and they are beyond professional. The surroundings are perfect for pictures, it's private so you don't have to worry about safety or random people hanging around. Compared to other venues, it's really reasonable. This place is a hidden gem. I highly recommend to anyone who's looking for an outside venue for their event. Ask for John!!

The Pelham Bay Golf Course and adjoining Split Rock, are two of the six courses owned by New York City and operated by American Golf. The usually higher rated Split Rock layout is a well-regarded golf course, which combines a good layout with several attractive holes and features. This tree-lined parkland layout will test most facets of your game, and should provide a round with plenty of enjoyable golfing challenges. Worth visiting if you are in the area.

My wedding was September 8th 2018 at Pelham Split ...

My wedding was September 8th 2018 at Pelham Split Rock and couldn t be more pleased! John, the event manager was absolutely amazing! First off, this venue is not a typical reception venue which is why we chose it in the first place, we wanted to give our guests a different experience than the normal catering hall and host a complete outdoor reception. Split Rock allowed us to execute this vision perfectly!

First off, the venue is completely yours for your entire event, for us, John ensured we had the entire day reserved for ourselves and our design team! We utilized all the spaces and our guests loved it! There was flexibility for them to move around indoors and outdoors, we had our beautiful outdoor dance floor, cigar rollers and even a food truck pulled up right to our dance floor! John ensured that everything we asked for was executed, he went above and beyond to customize our food, desserts and experience! Where else can you go and ask to change a menu completely and be met with ok, sure we can do that for you .

Speaking of the food it was delicious and plentiful, our guests had nothing but compliments on everything that was being served, from the cocktail hour to the specialty desserts from Conti s who also did my wedding cake which was incredible and delicious! We met with the chef beforehand at a private tasting and he worked with us on all of our selections, he was also so delightful and pleasant! The drinks were also on point and I never had an empty glass thanks to John, he was always watching my glass and ready with a refill at the drop of a hat. This venue is so flexible and open minded, they are willing to work with your budget and offer you an all-inclusive package that really is a good bang for your buck.

On top of all of this, we took a risk on an outdoor reception and unfortunately were met with a little drizzle just as the reception was about to start, I must say John worked his butt off to reformat our outdoor setup inside and then back outside when it stopped raining! I honestly don't know how this would have played out without him.

Overall, if you re looking for a unique experience, with a great staff and food, this is the place to be! I would do it all over again (minus) the rain!

Thank you John and Split Rock!!!!!!

I played split rock Fathers day. The play was slow but not terrible. The threesome in front of us was playing from the blues. One of their players couldn't get off the tee box and should have been playing the red or at least the whites. The ranger would not even talk to them. I find this at most city course and don't know what he rangers do except get to play free.

The course is in good shape. I remember playing both these courses before Guliani put the irrigation in and they were dogs. They need to work on the areas off the first cut. You get better value playing daily fee courses out east but you also have to drive an hour both ways so it's a trade off.

If it wasn't for the toll bridge, I'd play them more often.

I was very disappointed in the service. I had my wedding at this place and it was horrible. After I was told in the beginning that they only do one event a day I was told later on that they would be having another wedding earlier that day. The event coordinator stated we will have one hour to set up and when my husband got there the other wedding party was still there. We were left with 30 minutes to set up. Needles to say my wedding started late. Guest were telling me they servers were rude and at the end of the night The server stated I had lots of cake left over. I told her I will take it home but when she brought it out she put it on the table without giving me anything to put it in. I had to ask and even then there was attitude. This place is just horrible and not worth the money. Luckily the guest had fun because the DJ did such a great job.

Pelham is a great local course. Nice and open and there are a couple holes you can get after. The pace of play is the heartache. Expect a 5 to 6 hour round. They could use an extra beverage cart also. They always have 1 girl for both courses

Played this course on a beautiful Friday afternoon. It was a nice course don't understand why a lot of people gave the course a bad review. The greens need work. At times there were tire marks and a lot of sand filled divots the size of a city pot hole. For the price I don't feel it was that bad. The pace of play was fast even though the group in front of us were walking and we rode on carts. There were times when we caught up to the group at the par 3 but didn't have to wait a long time for them to play the hole and move on. I've played at multiple course and the pace of play was horrible. But the course was well worth the money.

Hey Gary, this place has plenty of things wrong with it but c'mon, don't complain about course conditions when you played the course in januaray or february!

Customer service here is abysmal. IT's obvious that whatever investment bank runs American Golf is more interested in banquets, weddings and outings, all those facilities are excellent. As for the golf course, you have starters that don't know what a tee time is, rangers who are there solely to get their free golf and make no attempt to monitor pace of play, and practice greens that are actually nice except for the fact that they don't seem to want to cut holes or buy the practice flags for them. The layout of these courses is pretty good and for a few weeks every year when the planets align and conditions are great they are really nice golf courses. But there is so little attention paid to detail and it's quite frustrating. I only play them as much as I do because as a city slicker without a car, they are easily accessible by bus and subway. But van courtland is even more accessible and they are making great strides there with treating their golfers good so that may be my new course of choice for 2013

Absolutely terrible experience playing split rock....

Absolutely terrible experience playing split rock. Front nine had a terrible outing of degenerates drinking and leaving beer cans all over the course that took 4 hours to ge through the front 9. I asked the ranger at the back nine turn to send someone out to moderate pace of play and he told me no and just sat there playing bejewel on his phone. Was doing the same thing when I gave up after the back nine and drove in. People pay money and take time out of their weekend to come out and play your course, it s your job to make sure pace is fair to everyone out there. People running this place have zero integrity for their course.

We have been playing Split rock forever and thus seen it evolve from typical NYC "Muni" to a attractive public golf facility. Our experience yesterday was really special.
For some reason while there were about 4 foursomes lined up at Pelham's first tee Split Rock was deserted. My friend and I went out at 10 am as a twosome with a cart and finished in 3 1/2 hours!
Course condition was excellent. Traps were freshly raked, fairways cut and greens rolling smooth and true. Once out in the back nine you'd swear you were at a Westchester County private club.Only complaint from a hacker like me was the fairly high rough.Guess this is a result of all the rain we've had recently.
The real bummer at Split is the loss of magnificent tree next to ninth green which was a victim of Sandy. I'm told it was well over 200 years old and a Bronx icon.

We played Split Rock. The play was painfully slow even for a weekend. The starter was trying to rush people off the tee and the group behind us hit into us when we hadn t event taken our second shot. The course needed to be mowed and the mosquitos were unbearable. We had bug spray and they were still swarming.

I have played here many times . This course has seen better times. The faraway grass in places looks like it never saw water. Poorly repaired spots . Wonder what has happened ? Maybe need to replace the head grounds man.

Played twice. First time was okay, unnecessarily slow group in front of us using a range finder then would squib a ball 30 yds. Second time was brutal. Paid $30 for 18, cart and two drinks, thought I was getting a deal. Turns out...huge wait to get to the first tee. Then ended up with a 3.5 hour half round of 9. Marshall came by and was like "what do you want me to do?" And really, he was right. They just over book beyond belief and you can't get a round in. No policing whatsoever. Will only play this course again if it calls for rain.

I booked my wedding date 8/14/2016 in October 2015. The website only showed positive reviews. I met with John Braca who sold me on various points that I was interested in. I loved how the place looked and was assured the food and customer service was top notch. Sadly after given various expectations many of them where not met. I felt at times I was chasing them down to get simple answers. The day of there was a lot of confusion as to who would organize the walk. I asked if we should have a rehearsal and was told my party was small so we wouldn't need a rehearsal. It was caos the day of my wedding trying to announce the bridal party. Noone was seeing to our guests needs. Noone email showed them were everything was. I was told my guests would be greeted with a glass if champagne. There were several things that never came to fruition on my day. The seller didn't match the delivery. My guests weren't aware of the various difficulties so for the most part they enjoyed the party. The food was adequate. Nothing in comparison to how fantastically they bill everything. I wouldn't recommend this venue to a friend or family member

Played Split Rock, and the mosquitoes were unbearable. Started on 10 and the back wasn't to bad, mosquito wise but when we played the front it was absolutely horrible. By the time we got to 4th hole, every shot I took I had about 2-3 mosquitoes biting me. Ruined my round and we called it quits after the 5th hole. We also went through half a bottle of mosquito repellent and it still didn't seem to work. Besides the mosquitoes the course was in ok shape, greens were rolling pretty nice but do NOT hit the ball in the rough or you are going to have at least 20-30 mosquitoes swarming you.

We played on Pelham on 8/20 and found the course to be in fairly good shape except for the sand traps. We had no issues with mosquitos. The starters had everything well organized and we went out at exactly the reserved time. There was even a cart going around the course selling drinks and snacks

I'm not sure why everyone rated this facility Poor...

I'm not sure why everyone rated this facility Poor-Fair. I think that people are forgetting that this is a NYC muni course. If you can play any NYC muni in under 5 hours, consider it a blessing. Actually, if you can play MOST public courses in 5 hours or under it's a great day.

It's a basic rule of golf that as the day progresses, the course gets more packed so if you want to play faster make the effort play earlier. Also stop acting like this is the Masters or US Open and play ready golf. Have your club selection ready to go when it's your turn and read your putt while the other members of your group are hitting.

Split Rock is by far the nicest NYC muni course. It's challenging enough to test the better golfer, but not too tough to over penalize off target shots. Overall, it's a fantastic value and definitely worth a try.

Pelham Bay is not as nice, but is still a fun course to play, especially for those golfers who may spray the ball a bit. Pelham Bay is kept open all winter, hence it's generally in worse condition to start the season. Again, keep in mind this is a NYC muni course, if you expect conditions worthy of a country club...join an actual country club!

We played at Split Rock and mosquitos will eat you...

We played at Split Rock and mosquitos will eat you alive even after you use bug spray. Pelham is only slightly better. The mosquitos are massive and will eat you through your tees and polos. Our polos were blood stained as we killed them while they were eating us. The course is in disrepair. The bunkers have lots of weeds and are unplayable. The water bodies have no water in them besides one hole. A horrendous experience all around. We wasted $65 each. The course is making money by selling you a $3 mosquito spray for $12. And the mosquito repellant doesn't work. This is hands down the absolute worst course I've ever played in my life. STAY AWAY. We only saw the drinks server once and she said she won't be coming back because she has to serve both courses (Split rock and pelhem). I truly wish I had something nice to say about the course and there is nothing memorable -- from start to finish.

I'm a golf nut. I play 2 or 3 times per week. I've played pretty much every course in the tri-state area and I'll tell you... If you live in Manhattan there isn't a better course you can play at a more reasonable rate. Is it Bethpage? No. But it also doesn't take 6 hours to play and it's 23 minutes from downtown without traffic. The tee boxes are best up and the bunkers can be better... But for $40 with a cart???!!! There's nothing around to contend with Split Rock. Period.

Pelham is the easier of the 2 courses. Split Rock ...

Pelham is the easier of the 2 courses. Split Rock is a well designed, challenging par 70. The problem with Split Rock is that it's full of nasty critters that bit and suck blood. We're talking flying bugs and mites. Horrible! I wish they'd spray the rough regularly. A day on and I'm still suffering from the bites! ....and I hope that I haven't contracted the dreaded Lime Disease!! I will not be playing Split Rock until they assure me that the course has been sprayed regularly. The reason for my low rating is essentially this. No complaints about the course design & the hoapitality.
