Their system doesn't sync with supreme golf, I showed up on time for my tee time, waited in line for 30 minutes to pay, was told they didn't have my reservation. Person behind the front desk didn't know how to use the golf software, couldn't give me a tee time price, he changed the price 3 times before I said you know what, nevermind...
Waste of my time.
Will not be coming back here.

The course was as expected for a public course however the mosquitoes were unbearable. Often times attacking in swarms. If you play this course bring plenty of cans of bug spray, wear bug spray, and play fast. Our foursome finished 3 cans.

Course was in ok shape but the mosquitos were so brutal. Can t even tell you how bad it was. Our foursome and everyone we saw got absolutely crushed. They sell bug spray for a reason...you are going to need it. We went through a whole can. Also not the worst turkey sandwich I ve ever had.

Started at 8 AM on front 9 at split rock. Every hole had a dozen mosquitos swarming and biting you at all times. Bug repellant did nothing and the course was unbearable. Left after 6 holes and paid full price. Will never return to this course. The amazon rain forest likely has less biting bugs. What a miserable experience.

I understand this is a public course, but come on, 6 hours to play a round when you get off before 8am and pay $75 is absolutely ridiculous. I strongly suggest you stay away...even if you drive an hour out of your way, you'll get home quicker and play a much nicer course for the same amount of money

Hey, lots of bad reviews here. Just played Split Rock. No mosquitoes and above average conditions. Some of the traps were very poorly maintained. Seriously tough par 4s from start to finish. Beautiful old world design. Very solid and good experience overall. I recommend this course for people that don t necessarily need every course they play to be Shinnecock Hills.

Just played split rock earlier in the week. Course was in decent shape. However, in the years I have played here, I have never seen the mosquito problem as bad as it was this time. You CANNOT play here without bug spray. Period.

Greens were good , that's it..no real interaction with staff due to covid , but the real stinker is paying $70 , for a course that looks as if they only have one guy doing all the work ...bunkers are no longer bunkers , stones in them where there is sand, the rest of the bunkers are deep rough more than anything ..for $30:I'd say give it go with no expectations. $70 is a rip off

Easily the worst-maintained course I've ever played. The bunkers were overrun with weeds and there was crabgrass on some of the fairways. To make matters worse, there clearly isn't any sort of planned drainage for the course making it seriously swampy/marshy so the entire course was infested with more mosquitos than I've ever seen - my friends and I got swarmed every single time we stopped our carts.

Played 5/30/18. Had a tee time for Pelham but the starter told us there was an outing going on out on the course?? I guess we were supposed to squeeze in somewhere in the middle of the outing. I don't get it!? We went to Split Rock and tried there. Got out ok. The course itself is decent enough but the mosquitos were already out in force!

Loved everything! It's safe to say that Julissa is very creating and truly passionate about her work. The details seem very delicate and perfectly put together. I would definitively recommend her to anyone who's planning an important event. Excellent job Julissa!

STAY AWAY! The amount of mosquitoes makes it unbearable to play. We paid over 70 dollars for 18 and had to stop after 9 holes. The cart girl was going around selling bug spray! That is how bad it is. Why would you want to drench yourself in chemicals just to play golf.

The actual course is very poorly maintained. The sand traps were hard and had grass growing from them. The greens were beat up. I tee boxes looked awful. I wouldn't play for free on this course.

Where do I begin? John and Jessica went above and beyond for my welcome baby shower. I was in a jam where my original venue fell thru. I was freaking out, with just a few days till my event, they were able to accommodate me. They were very detailed, patient and hands on. John made sure to call in on facetime while he was on holiday, to make sure everything was good to go. Jessica was there bright and early overseeing the staff, which were all amazing as well. The bartender Johnathan was so down to earth and his drinks were on point. The set up, environment and food were amazing. The kitchen staff out did themselves, my guest are still raving about how delicious the food was. You can tell it was fresh and not frozen like some places. I can go on forever about Splitrock, it was an awesome experience. We were treated like royalty. I can't wait to have future events at Splitrock.

The staff in the pro shop and grill areas was extremely pleasant and professional. My group had an 8:12 tee time on Sunday at Split Rock and we waited about 25 minutes to tee off. The course seemed in good shape. The rough wasn't too much of a penalty helping facilitate play.

My only objections to this challenging course are twofold- one for the green keepers and one for the players. For the greenskeepers, the putting surfaces are extremely slow- you have to really hammer putts of any length. The biggest issue for the course is the discourteous and unprofessional habits of many who play there. Based on the condition of the traps, both fairway and greenside, it's clear that most players cannot be bothered raking them out. The worst habit is the failure of players to repair ball marks on the green. Every green was littered with ball marks making putting a chore. I'm sure this is a challenge for the greenkeeping staff. Perhaps a few signs around the course might embarass these idiots into changing their destructive habits, as I'm sure they're the first to complain about how the "staff" doesn't take care of the course!

Hi,

Hi,
i played with a friend on the pelham course and i can't recommend to go there and play there.
Here are the reasons: Pro shop stuff very unfriendly! the course was not in a good condition, 3 greens we're closed and we had to put on the Fairway, the putting green we're in a bad shape. Also they we're to many flights on the course, we stocked on each hole and had to wait at least 5-10min to tee off. But the major point is, some flights drunk alcohol (f.e. Whiskey, etc...) and the guy's we're so drunken on the course...
This is a totally no go!!

I am not a golfer, so I can't speak to the golf course, but the space as a whole is beautiful. I went to a wedding here and we were impressed with how well everything was set up and how pretty a backdrop the golf course made for the ceremony. For the dinner and reception we had a beautiful tent with christmas lights. It was a really nice way to keep the entire event going easily.

How do you not have drink boxes put on the course in the summer? It was almost 100 degrees out and not a drop of water to be found. Course was in decent shape for a public course. Not to many exciting holes here.

Also why can't I drive to my car to drop off my stuff?

The course isn t a far car ride away if you re coming from the city. The prices are reasonable and you get a free beer and lunch with every round. Weekends can sometimes get a little busy in the summer.

The fairways and greens were in reasonable shape. The sand traps were in very bad shape though - quite hard packed and weeds growing in them. But the main reason for the 1 Star is because of the mosquito infestation. The front nine was unplayable. I ve never seen so many mosquitoes in my life. Easily 15+ mosquitoes swarming at times. I doused myself in bug spray but I m still covered in bites. There is clearly no effort to control them. The back 9 was reasonable, although there were still a few to contend with. I will never play there again and I would not recommend it.

thought it was well maintained and service was excellent . yes there was a wait - I had a 9:00 tee time Saturday- yes there were 2-3 foursomes on the tee - I teed off @ 9 :30 - but it was a beautiful day sandwiched between the rain ,cold temps and Father's Day -looked like everybody and their mother was trying to get out there- I think the pro shop did a great job getting everybody out there - I had a great day although I would have liked to have played better

DO NOT PLAY HERE! I've played golf my whole life, and I've never had a worst experience with mosquitoes on a golf course. It is truly unbearable and I've never gotten more bug bites in my entire life. It is not worth it even if THEY paid you $60 (cost of a round) to play here. STAY AWAY!

Great courses, Split Rock is the toughest and most fun! Pelham Bay is easy and most crowded because of the ease. Weekday deal comes with a round of golf, a meal, 2-drinks AND the cart for about 45$--best deal in NYC-area! On average, with my experience of playing at this course, never have I averaged more than 5-hrs even starting on prime time on weekdays (can t say the same about weekends since I haven t played weekends on this course).

Pelham Bay is great fun.

Pelham Bay is great fun.
Course was in great shape.
Reasonable cost.
Nice layout.
Can challenge all handicappers.
Split Rock might be a little too much for high handicappers, but will give all lots to talk about.
Facilities only available at turn.

Split Rock Review, can not play the front 9 in any manageable way. No warning from the pro, every golfer was giving up, not at all playable. Asked for refund, Split Rock blames the city.."oh they sprayed last week" no they didn't and the course should not at all operate the front 9 in these conditions. Have played SR more than 20 times before, will not return. Ruined a day off with friends. BS

The party room is very nice. They also had a nice layout and let the people customize things other venues don t really offer or make you outsource. I only have been there once for a party so far but if any other event comes up here I would definitely look forward to it and if we need to book a larger sized event they d definitely be on our list of choices.

Played split rock this past friday. They have not done much to maintain this course. The first cut is high enough that its hard to gind your ball. They dont seem to have used any weed killer or fertilizer. The traps are nonexistent, all weeds. The greens were okay.

The mosquitoes were unbelievable even for split rock. You could hardly tee iff without them in your ears. With most local governments warning about west nile we found the conditions intolerable.

Paid full price, would not play again for free.
My local course is perfect. Another Deblasio debacle.

One of the worst golf experiences I have ever had. Do not use Golf Now to make your reservation. They don't accept it and charge you twice and I was unable to get refunded. The staff were high school kids that demonstrated no class when we asked for help. I think this is the first review I have ever posted in my life, to give you context on just how poor the place was run. It's really no stars.

Worked here as a kid and it was always one of the nicest public courses in the city. Actually this is two courses: Pelham AND Split Rock, Split Rock being the nicer of the two. Good for novices and those with patience as the greens get crowded, especially in the warmer months.

The new crew at Pelham/Split Rock are getting it right!

In years past, even when the courses were at their best, the establishment warranted a 0 on a 1-10 for all aspects of customer service.

Now, my experience ranges from 9-10.

Starters went from surly to welcoming and amusing. Pro shop desk went from fumbling to ordered, helpful and upbeat. Example 1: Couple of Saturdays ago, I called up at noon and asked how things looked at 2pm for a single. Got the report: tee sheet wide open, but "playing about 5 hours now, should be 4 by the time you get here." It was indeed. Example 2: Showed up for a sunup round booked online at Pelham two Thursdays ago, and the course had just been punched and sanded. Shop had already moved us to Split, and told some folks who insisted on Pelham, "You're not going to be able to putt the greens, so are you sure?"

Excellent.

Realize, this is a municipal facility rivaled only by Bethpage for the number of rounds/course that are played annually. So you're going to get all kinds of folks on the courses. And, like all public-access courses in the tri-state area, a high percentage of them should not be allowed on until they have lessons in speeding play, raking bunkers, replacing divots and repairing ball marks.

As a result, you're going to see tee boxes in need of critical help (particularly forward tees). But you will find greens in good, sometimes excellent, condition. And you're likely to say what my friend Jim did on his first morning at Split Rock: "Wow, this is really NYC's hidden gem."

Again, two thumbs up for the new crew. They've made Pelham/Split Rock a viable option, not a compromise.
