The opposite of Pay-less. Service was terrible at pick up and drop off. Car was not in great shape. A better deal is had at other places!
This Payless is fairly shady. I got my reservation for $245 on Hotwire, but when I got there, they added on additional taxes. They also, by default, add the charge for a full tank of gas, and you need to have them take the charge off when you return the car with a full tank of gas. The car we got was fairly dirty inside. This experience certainly got me thinking twice about renting from Payless again.

never rent from this place this people are fraud. they will give you a price and at the end they will charge you more and there is no customer care number even to contact them. i really dont want to cross the line of formal review language. that specifies how pissed i am with there service

Car was fine. Counter had a ridiculous wait time. Then they tell u go to booth in garage.....to wait on line again! Very slow for each person at counter. Then when I return my car they hand me my receipt....they have added in $16 +taxes for optional service which was XM radio. I checked my original contract and of course there was no mention of XM radio being provided or requested when I rented. So the only explanation is they went into my contract and added it to my bill after and hoped I would just take the receipt without noticing. Scammers.
Do not rent my car there, on the page they advertise from 10 dollars per day depending on and when you are going to rent it, it turns out that the cheapest 56, very bad
Veronice made our experience an excellent one! We had come to Sea-tac without a reservation and she was the only one in the entire building full of sales reps of different companies that was willing to help us out. She went the extra mile to ensure that we walked out of there with a car. She made the process so easy. Was disappointed with the lack of cars and paid too much for a car we didn t care for but that s what happens when you fail to make reservations in advance. Lesson learned. Thanks Veronice!
The biggest problem was at point of return. We never upgraded our car, but they charged for an upgrade.
Also, Stained seats in car. Wind shield wipers made visibility worse than not using them in rain.
Service was worse than just about any other car rental company I've used.
We needed a rental car for a business trip. I was happy with the selection, price, ease of process, proximity to the airport.

Worst experience ever they are liars and charge you fees that you didn't agree to and they never pick up there phones or respond back. I will make sure to never rent with you guys ever and I will spread the word about your horrible service.
First of all their car maintanence is the worst that I have seen. Its not always bright and sunny in seattle and during this time of the year its not even close to a sunny day and the car we rented had an issue with the vipers. Also the windshield fluid was not refilled we refilled it ourselves.
Then comes their obnoxious way of dealing with the charges they put on their customers. They never mentioned the late charges, we were an hour late and we were charged for 2 hours. When we asked about that they said you are late by an hour and 8 minutes according to them.
We asked how they calculated the time and the woman in the counter said that its the time when the 2nd receipt was printed which was exactly an hour more to the time which we should have returned the car and when we showed it to her, she said that we could not do anything as it is automatically done by their system. They have also charged me for the services I did say "NO" to.
They never took our concern with the vipers or the time that I waited for them to give the car keys as the woman in the counter was on a call. If those would have been taken into consideration we would have saved some time and money.
Its not that I did not have a bad experiences with other rentals, its just that they gave us incentives when I mentioned things like issue with vipers unlike a "SORRY ABOUT THAT" but the charges do not change and their less resourceful attitude towards their customers.

All of the 5 star reviews on here must be fake. They charge you crazy amounts of hidden fees. The guy at the counter was so rude! Not just rude but downright mean for no reason. The people answering calls for customer service were not extremely knowledgeable about the cars. Absolutely avoid renting from here. I don t know how this place is in business.
Payless was the least expensive company we found on internet, so we were leery about whether there were elements that would explain their cost. When we arrived at Seattle airport and picked up our car, they told us that they didn't have the car we had reserved. That actually was good news. They upgraded us to a larger vehicle that gets better gas mileage. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. She let us know how to return the car so that there would be no danger of paying for a cleaning fee. The car was an 2016 Hyundai, which drove great, considering we drove for three days, throughout the Puget Sound area and only used $15.51 worth of gas. The return was easy and Dannie, who helped us was friendly and helpful in getting us to our plane on time. The whole experience was positive.
Absolute worst experience and customer service out there. I will gladly pay double to avoid ever using them again. Be wary of their extra charges and cleaning fees .
I wish I could figure out how to upload images to this review and show you how awful the upholstery was in this car. If I hadn't already waited in line for 30 minutes at the Seattle airport to get the car, and it wasn't already so late in the evening, I could have gone back and demanded a new car. Instead, I removed my jacket and used it to cover the seat so I could sit on it. The passenger side was far worse and I would NOT have let a passenger sit on it. First time renting from them, last time, for sure! There are other bargain car rentals in Seattle that at least still care about the quality of the product they are selling.

This is the worst car rental experience ever had. Tons of hidden charges and transaction fees that show up a month or more later. Worst customer service on the phone and they put u on hold with no one to get back to u! don't do u huge mistake like i did!
AVOID! AVOID! This company will tack on extra hidden fees. Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced - in anything. Charged me for XM radio which I had declined and didn't want. When asked to speak to a manager, they were conveniently not yet at work. The whole business model is to get extra fees and obfuscate if you challenge it.
Should have given a zero star! The service is terrible. We had a reservation for a mid size SUV and were downgraded to a compact car. They do not have cars that you reserve and still charge the same! We were told that our fuel charges would be waived and we didn't have to return with full tank. When we returned our car, we were charged $161 as opposed to our original charge of $87 even after getting a downgrade!! When we approached the rep, she totally denied any such waiver and asked us why we picked up the car if they didn't have mid suv! After a lot of arguments, she finally fixed it by checking the system! She kept blaming us for picking up the car that we did not reserve! We will probably never go back to Payless again!

Company charged me for insurance that I specifically declined. It is impossible to contact customer service. I paid $22 a day for the car, and $25 a day for the insurance. I should have had a luxury car for that price!

The checkout experience was not as i expected. No clear directions about using the bar code to leave the facility. I liked the car and the front desk folks. Great service. They went above and beyond to answer my questions about getting around. Would have given 5 stars to the reps. Great communication between team members too. They made sure I got the insurance papers for my trip over the border.
Stay very far away from this place. I had rented a car based on the Hotwire price of $19 per day, and it ended up costing me $450.00 for one day + 2 hours. There were several hidden charges, including an upgrade I didn't agree to, taxes that were about $100, and a loss damage waiver that was $80. For one day. Total scam. They also wouldn't print me a receipt and said they would email it to me, but none come. I will never rent from this company again. Ever.
I am highly disappointed in the service I got with Payless car rental, the guy overcharged with fees I made clear I didn't need. Is impossible to speak with anyone from there department they never pick up the phone and a supervisor will never come out to speak with you, I have filed a dispute and have not heard a response till now. I will never ever use there services and will never recommend Payless to anyone. Worst customer service ever I wish I used another rental company and the car I rented was so horrible.

There are 6-8 REAL car rental companies at this facility. So don't even think about renting from Payless. My resv was $43 for 2 days. I was billed $56 because of a $6 a day facility charge, but none of the other rental companies charge this fee. If u reserve a price online, they will add on more fees to your rental price; just as all the other reviewers are saying. Payless? More like Paymore smh.
If I could give it a zero I would. Wish we would've paid more attention to the awful reviews. They tried to charge us twice as much as the total cost quoted on our rental reservation. After waiting and battling for over an hour, we were honored the price but were forced to accept a filthy and beat up pickup truck and not the full sized sedan we had reserved. Not at all practical for a family traveling with small children. Will never, ever rent there again. Would rather pay more and use a more reputable and established company.
DO NOT rent from this company!! I called and talked to a Hispanic male named Michael and he had the worst customer service skills. I had multiple questions about the policy, and I had already paid for a rental. He then states that it s not his problem that I didn t read the policy and instead of helping me resolve the issue he decides to laugh about it. I will never rent from this company again, and hopefully this review can help prevent another customer from having to deal with this.
Just pay attention to where your rental car pick up is after you leave the rental car counter. Otherwise I found the staff just as helpful and efficient as the big boys. A car was ready and clean. I was offered an upgrade which I didn't need and declined without additional cost

Should have looked at these multiple bad reviews and taken my business elsewhere. As other people have complained, I was overcharged by an upgrade without my knowledge to a car costing more than twice the daily rate. I made my reservation online at 7 pm to pick up at 11 pm, so why would I want to more than double my rental price at the pick up counter? Apparently this business practice is quite common for Payless at Sea Tac airport which means the employees are most likely given bonuses for this deceptive and illegal overcharging. I plan to file a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau).
I ordered a car on 3/6/2017 from Payless to be picked up at Las Vegas NV on 4/23/2017 for a total including taxes of $166.62 (confirmations # 03959066US6). When I got to the Payless desk, after 20 minutes in line I was instructed to go next door because they did not have any cars for rental. Next door was EZ rentals and I rented a car for $361.39. I think Payless should reimburse me the difference of $194.77
My husband and I loved the quick, efficient and most of all friendly service we received upon picking up our rental car the agent was knowledgeable, friendly and kind. Dropping off our rental was a breeze as well. I will definitely be renting from them again.
First they tried to charge me for more gallons of gas than will actually fit in the vehicle.
Then, they tried to make me go back upstairs, wait in line for 30 minutes again because they couldn't figure out how to do something on their computer. I insisted they just call the people upstairs because I had already waited 30 upstairs and 30 downstairs.
Finally, they tired to illegally charge my credit card for "damage" even though I checked the car in, it was inspected and there was no damage. I responded to the charge and they "created a ticket in the online system" which said nothing???? Very shady.
The women working downstairs are very nice, but the business seems completely disorganized in their management of workflows, training, and fair business practices.

We arrived at the airport in Denver Colorado. We went to get on the bus to take us to the rental place the driver didn't put our bags on for us which was okay. He didn't talk to us and the bus was so dirty. When we arrived at the office the place was down right dirty. Counters broken yuk. When we got to the desk to get our car well this lady was so rude (well we should've walked out right then). She even wanted us to bring a gas recipe for the gas when we came back to return the car. The car was full of dents and scratches and needed to be washed. We took the car and it was fine.
The reason I am giving them one star is because the bus driver that picked us up when we returned the car was very nice. The lady that we returned the car to was very nice also.
We got the recipe for the car and a lot of extra charges were on it NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

There should be zero star option for this place. We didn't get the car we reserved and asked for. It was a very tight crappy car for our family of 5 to use on our ski trip. Then the key fob was running out of battery and the alarm went off in the middle of the night when we were visiting friends. The neighbors were not happy. Terrible service and they just were not straight forward.
I booked 4-door mid-sized car with Payless car rental through the Orbitz. When I showed up, they told me I had to wait because they ran out. I waited and waited, when my car arrived, they printed out a different contract which cost more than what I had booked. My reservation was $209, but they made me signed with a different contract which is $251. Bait and switch company. Very shady practice.

Reserved a full size car weeks ahead of time. When I arrived on time at the customer service desk, I was told there would be a significant wait if I wanted a full size. The rep offered to get me an SUV at a higher price which I declined. I accepted a mini SUV at the same rate as my full size reservation but rep kept trying to get me to upgrade and accept additional and unnecessary fees. Buyer beware!
I used Payless Car Rental through Hotwire and I am amazed that Hotwire is willing to use and represent them. From what I saw they have very fraudulent behavior. I left the car with an absolutely full tank of gas and they charged me for gas. They are saying that I need to have a receipt to show I purchased gas. This is ridiculous because all they have to do is see that I left it with a full tank. You need to get something initialed when you drop (the car by their employee). Even if you kept your receipt I would recommend this. They are simply over-charging and making money doing it. BBB complaints about them are endless. Use some other company that has more integrity. They are part of Avis and Budget. I will avoid them all in future.
Payless doesn't even rank one star. The customer service was horrible, the call was dropped three times, agents were rude. Better than that is the company is not changing the cancellation policy or modifying it, even though there are travel bans being imposed on all DOD. Thank you Payless and the Avis Budget Group for this wonderful experience.

First time renting from PAYLESS expensive and when I had to return it they kept sending me to another rental car drop off so kept going back and forth I had no choice but to leave the car in front of the Payless booth with the keys inside the glove department I took pictures and videos just in case they try to charge me more my contract was clear and I went by it it's not my fault they suck DO NOT RECOMMEND PAYLESS

Like the other reviewers have stated, they lie and cheat they're way to a petty extra $20/30 by adding supplemental even when you explicitly decline and state you do not want any additional coverage. Then when you try to contact their customer service to dispute, they give you a runaround and make it as difficult as possible to get any help. What a terrible sham of a company. Do not rent from her. Car rental companies can be pretty shady, but Payless Car Rental at SeaTac takes the cake for the worst out there.
Please be careful when that ask you choose cars! When I picked my full size car, I was told I could choose from an Altima or an Outlander. They told me the Outlander was a customer did not pick up, so I could choose. I chooses Outlander. When I saw the receipt, total money looked like what I prepaid online, so I signed it. After return I found besides what I have paid online, I was also charged upgrade which is twice more than what I booked. Talked with the company, they said I asked upgraded and charged me 89per day. I booked 20 per day! They never told me it was an upgrade, only told me to choose from 2 options. They also did not show me before I signed it! So I paid more than 630 dollars for three days Full size car in Seattle! I'm not excepted to get the extra money, but please be careful when they tell you to choose car!

Like they said a ridiculous amount of hidden fees! We got a quote for $250 which included insurance for 5 days turned out to be over $600 when we picked up the car! I have rented several cars for work before and I have never had such a poor experience. I never got straight answers from the associated. I have always done a walk though with the person that you get the keys from. Not this time they just seemed lazy and charged me a arm and a leg for a base model of a jeep compass.

I recently rented a car at San Diego airport and althoigh there was an issue initially with the "compulsory" insurance charges, when I questioned it , they were very good and refunded the surcharge. The vehicle was great and I was very pleased with the outcome.
They charged me twice for my car. I did the online ticket complaint thing that they've mentioned here and they sent me an updated receipt with the other charge removed. However, I checked my credit card statement just five minutes ago and both charges are still on there. They didn't refund me anything, they just sent me a meaningless receipt thinking I wouldn't check or notice. I'm still working with my bank to get rid of this fraudulent charge. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

I did not notice the mistake until we returned the car and now they wont give me my money back. Make sure you do not rent from this company, they are scammers and a horrible company. Also make sure you don't request a carseat unless you want to put your child's life in danger, we received a joke of a carseat.

The pickup at the airport was about the only thing that went easy. The car didn't start the next morning. After 45 minutes on hold we finally got through to an agent that informed us we would be charged for the roadside visit. We ultimately got a jump and were on our way. After we concluded our trip and turned back in the vehicle with a full tank, we were greeted with a charge $60 higher than the contracted rate. After two days of getting that corrected, I get a charge of $185.00 on my account this morning. I called and spoke with their cs again. They had no idea what the charge was for. I filed a compliant and we'll see what happens with the money. Stay far away.
MY TABS WERE EXPIRED!!! If I could give negative stars I would. They didn't let me pick a car and the lady who checked me out was really rude because I didn't want any extra stuff. I asked for a later return time since my flight flew put at 7 pm and she said ok no problem but still gave me a 1030am return time so I had to pay a extra day. My tabs were expired and I got pulled over and luckily the cop let me off with a warning specially since I'm out of state.
I had a great experience with Payless Car Rental. I reserved a full size car but when I got to the rental counter the agent asked how many people would be traveling in the car and I told her 4 adults and one baby in a carseat. She offered a small SUV because their full size cars are on the small side and I asked how much more that would cost and she said same price. I got the small SUV and was very pleased with it. The service was great and the price was great. Also there was a gentleman that was being quite obnoxious and the agent was very patient and professional with him. I will use Payless again.

TOTAL SCAM! Run! You'll never pay the price you booked for, simple as dead. My booking was supposed to be $212, and they charged me $353 because of hidden fees: "liability insurance" not included, along with some random rental charge? They're clearly hiding those facts up to the last minute. This is not even mentioned on the booking. You're just held prisoner in front of the counter. NEVER AGAIN.

I just rented a car in Sacramento for a business meeting and returned the car with a full tank of gas and i dropped it off early morning before they opened so i never saw anyone and used the drop off box. It cost me $40 to fill the tank which i have all the receipts and they charged my card $162.19 for fuel service and $34.00 in 'Optional Services'.. My 2 day rental should've been $57.30 and they charged me $282.34
I tried calling numerous times and no answer. Finally after several times to their 800 number i was told they would investigate and let me know what they decide and no answer. DO NOT RENT FROM PAYLESS! Pay the extra and use a reputable company.

Totally great experience today. Had absurd issues with Thrifty next door and wasn't able to rent even work a reservation, came here and got a car in 10 min without reservation at a 30% discount over my previous Thrifty reservation, and the car is nicer. Great customer service, simple process, and easy to do business with.

Tried payless rental for the first and last time. Ran over razor blade on road. Called payless at discount tire and w put a new tire on the car which cost

Easy to get in and out. I was able to get an upgrade at a reduced price since I am active duty. No issues what so ever. Good customer service.
One star is still way too much for an awful experience that we have had with payless. Not only did they not give us the rate we were guaranteed to get, they also charged us twice after we returned the car. I wish we paid attention to the bad reviews like majority of people who are posting here. We battled with them for an hour and called customer service but they were just as useless as the clerks who we were forced to work with. They kept lying to us and kept coming up with explanations as to why we needed to pay more for the car that we had already paid in advance. That was the biggest mistake on our part. I saw so many people who were able to just walk away because they did not put down the money for their reservation and they did not have to waste their time to argue about what they thought was guaranteed. Never ever book a car with payless!!! You will be screwed badly like we have been. We still don't know if they cancel the second charge. Oh and btw we never got a receipt bc their system was down upon return. What a coincidence. This has been the worst and the most stressful experience ever. It's way smarter to go with maybe more expensive but trustworthy company because in the end you pay more at payless plus the cost of your time and stress.

Be prepared for hidden fees. They hide by renting out the car through AVIS and it s hard to get a hold of them. My contract says that my vehicle was rented by Veronice. She told me about the insurance that I can buy. I declined the Loss Damage Waiver but accepted the Supplemental Liability Insurance. Turns out that I was charged for both. It s very sad that the company has to slime people out of money. I should of read the paperwork, but a company shouldn t slap on hidden fees, even when you decline them, just because they figure your going to sign away. Remember to read the contract cause slimy companies like this will take advantage.
Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. To begin, the rental company had no available vehicles. There was a long line of people and I waited for over an hour to even be acknowledged by a service representative. During that time, I was also among numerous other customers that were extremely displeased with the customer service. There were people shouting from the line and asking if they could get service because the representatives were not addressing people. In fact, one representative was on her cell phone taking pictures of herself during this time. To make things worse, I made a reservation online and was quoted one price, but was charged more than double that price. I declined insurance, yet was still charged for it. When I called, I was told I would have to file a complaint and the audio and video would be reviewed. I then got a message saying there was nothing they could do and a refund could not be issued. Clearly they did not review the tapes in order to address the issue. Furthermore, when I got into the car- it was dirty. There were food crumbs everywhere, and there was even a bloody Kleenex in the cup holder on the passenger side door. When I brought up these issues, they were completely ignored and not addressed. I am absolutely appalled by the service this company provides and I would not recommend them to anyone. I will be reporting this company to the BBB.
I had reserved a Hyundai Sonata or equivalent. I was told that I would be able to add a GPS if I needed to. The agent advised me that they did not have a GPS unit available, but that they could put me into a vehicle with a navigation system. Now in my experience, when the rental company had to put you into another vehicle because they did not have what you wanted available, there was not an up charge. I was told that the GPS system, if they had it, would cost $18.00 a day. I assumed that this would be an additional charge related to the vehicle I had ordered. Instead I got a bill quite higher than that. I might have asked more questions, but it was extremely cold (compared to the 94 degree weather in Tampa), so I was a little lax in not reading the whole agreement at the time. Next time I will know better.
I'm currently in line awaiting my rental and the staff already seems understanding with the customers in front of me.
I rented a car from this company 2 days ago and I was ripped off, it was basically a scam.
The scam tactic they use is the following:
1st they allow you to make a reservation at a certain price, that is included in your reservation as "Total price".
2. When you get to the airport, you show them the reservation, and they said that there was a mistake in the system, that the total is wrong and that it's actually more expensive. At this point, there isn't much you can do, because if you want to rent another car in the moment it will always be more expensive.
3. But that's not everything. When they give you the car, they ask you if you want to include a number of services (different insurance types, road assistance, etc). I said "No" to everything. And made it very clear to the company representative that I didn't want any of the extra services. But then, when you go to return the car, they say you actually accepted those services. I denied it, but the company employee said that it was my word against what he saw in the system, and that I had to pay extra for those services. They know there is no way for the customer to prove having declined all those services, because I don't record every conversation I have when I rent a car.
That is how the final price for the car for more than 50% higher than initially stated in the reservation confirmation that they sent me initially.
These things usually don't happen in serious companies like Avis or Hertz, so I would recommend using those. You don't want to take a risk with this scammers.
Lady at the counter was very nice and joked around with us. Very good experience after we just had a bad flight and interaction with Alaskan Airlines.
They made good on a deal I booked with another rental company after finding out there was a geographical restriction. That speaks volumes. Great customer service, will definitely use again!
The pickup station/counter is fine, it is totally proper for a major airport car pickup.(You don't need the Hilton, right?) Our car, a white SUV, was awesome. VERY comfortable and extremely reliable, through three states: WA, ID and MT, and dozens of attractions and state parks up to 85 miles from our hotel. A very faithful and totally reliable car, which was extremely important for our 9-day trip. Thank you, Payless!! Every time I pressed the Start button, it started immediately with a soft purring, and it always worked perfectly. The rear cargo door raised itself with a touch on the inside. What more could we ask for?? And we always felt safe leaving some bags, folding chairs etc. in the trunk- no problems at any parking spots in three states. Overall, this was a wonderful experience that made our entire trip possible, 500 miles from home. THANK YOU, PAYLESS !
Ok, just want to be clear with you guys, don t rent with Payless: extremely tricky from beginning to the end.. they telling you have a deposit but at the end they charge you everything.. + other crazy things that they never mention online... I was worried of the message at the beginning now I understand why... the payless is a paymore at the end.. I warn you, better to rent from a proper company.
2017.03.07 : Today we have been reduce 280$ mention as a fine... no explaination have been send to us, just a withdraw directly from our account.. seems can still have an access on the credit card. I wil never rent a car from cheap company as this one ever, you always got problems!
We did not have any issue with the customer service or car availability as mentioned in the previous reviews. Our flight came in late, but our vehicle was still available. We did a pre-pay rental and I called once we had notice that our flight would be delayed by 4-hours. The girls at the desk were very helpful both when I spoke to them on the phone and when we arrived at the desk around 12:30 a.m. The only reason for the 4-star rating is that the tires on the vehicle really needed to be replaced. We didn't notice it when we first picked it up or else we would have said something. The tires did spin a few times while we were driving, which made us a little nervous driving in the rain. We just drove slow and walked when we could. Our drop-off transaction was quick and easy. The amount charged on our card was the same as the agreed to pre-pay price. I've rented from numerous car companies in the past and this is NOT the worst one.
Worst customer service possible. Upcharges, hidden fees and an absolute hassle. Only recommend to people you hate.
Cheap and good cars. My car had some scratches when i picked it up, i have reported them and i was not changed for it. Great service. The only thing why i put 4 starts is because the car I rented wasn t clean inside the rest was perfect!
WaitLonger car rental took double the time I have experienced with multiple other agencies in the same center. And I was second in line. Also had a WaitLonger experience with check in. I didn't really pay less, but I sure did wait longer!

Hey buddys , this branch such big scam , July 4 we were on vacation stop by Seattle Tacoma airport, we booked 3 of compact car though the internet , total cost $1559.91 for 5 days , when we check in with front desk, one of yong ladie staff suggests, we could upgrade for 15 passages ford transit 350 mini van , we thought that better idea , we could traveling together, one of my friend pull out internet to reaching other car rental as same vehicle, Alamo offered $903 for 5 days so we showed that pricing to the yong ladie at front desk , she agreed with that price match Alamo offered , and she told us , she will fixed the paperwork and adjust amount , / but she never fixed !!!
When we returned the car ,the price charge , it's same we pay for 3 vehicles in 5days rental total cost $1559.91 , we try to talk nicely with the front desk yong ladie , she rejected , pass over all precess to her manager , manager was denied our requests and excuse said all system down , we couldn't do nothing this s worst car rental in my experience , we never return back again! ! Aware scammers $ !
