I like the idea. They have nice clothes and brands. A little bit expensive but, honestly, they have quality items. It's very small though and they don't have a large choice. I have found the guys working there to be a little too pushy. It has potential though. Plus they have a second hand section where you can sell or buy good stuff for cheaper prices.
I love this store! It's packed with things needed for outdoor activities, fun stuff to have, & gifts for people that are kinda hard to buy for.
This shop is a very welcome addition to the pgh outdoor community. Great selection within the small space, friendly staff, attentive customer service, and the only dedicated used gear sale section that I know of in the region. I encourage you to support pgh's only locally owned not-single-sport-specific outdoor shop!

We are travelers from Germany, currently sleeping in our SUV and just started our trip driving from Kanada to Patagonia. We needed some equipment for this trip and searched online for an outdoor equipment shop. Then we found 3 Rivers Outdoor! We met Sebastian there, he gave us very good advice! he knew a lot about sleeping mats and gas cookers. He also gave us some tips about good camping nearby. We would definitely go again if we are in the area and need some help. Thanks Sebastian, the jetboil is awesome :-D

I went in looking for some used climbing shoes, they did not have any in my size but the place is much larger inside than it looks from the street and the prices are great. I ended up just getting a black diamond climbing harness. They didnt just grab one off the wall they asked about what kind of climbing I was going to do than fitted a harness to me based on that. I could not be any happier.

This place is such a wonderful addition to Pittsburgh! The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If you have a question about a sport that one staff member does not have expertise in they will find someone who does. I ve bought new gear and used gear, I ve brought in consignment gear and accrued store credit, I ve bought off the shelf and special ordered, and I ve rented equipment. Each time has been a great experience, and I have nothing but praise. This is my go-to gear shop, and I recommend it becomes yours, too.

But be sure to check out their community events! They do weekly trail runs as well as hikes and outdoor film festivals. Definitely a spot to check out!
Went in to get a pair of sunglasses. The owner was super knowledgeable about what the store offered. Ended up with a great pair of glasses for a great price...and the company that makes them is from Pittsburgh!
Locally owned and operated by people who really know their stuff. Whether you're looking for new or used equipment or just advice about where the best places are locally and nationally, they have answers. Not ready or willing to financially commit to becoming a outdoor person yet? They have incredible rental packages and can outfit you with everything you need, but will never try to oversell you on gear you won't use. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I love this store! The staff is super helpful, and they keep a really good curated selection in a limited space. Plus, they have a consignment section which is the only place I know of to get second hand outdoor gear. On top of all that, they organize great community events every week. 3Roc is local (Regent Square) and mission-inspired. The owners are down-to-earth. Their product choices have been vetted by their engagement w the outdoors. They want to create a community around the outdoors and outdoor activity and local engagement and friendliness. The store is cozy and bright at the same time. They have casual and technical clothes and gear, hiking shoes, packs, climbing gear, cycling stuff, kayaks, sundries and outdoor-themed. I like the woodcut print poster and cards of nearby Frick Park trails. The back room has camping gear and consignment items for resale. I'm going to take some items in instead of selling them on eBay or sending to ThreadUp. 3Roc rents out some equipment. The store is dog-freindly. Their dog is the store greeter. First Friday of the month is Smores fire pit night in front of their store (next to D's in Regent Square).

This is the brst store in Allegheny Co. Seriously. Smallish space, but parking is easy, staff is ALWAYS nice, and they have everything you need or want. They carry Kavu and Patagonia.

Locally owned an operated by fantastic well educated people. The perfect place for advice, storytelling, and equipment. I'm only one person, but I plan to use this store as my new go-to for all outdoor activities.

My new favorite outdoor store!!! The store itself is set up great with all the top brands and gear. I picked up a Black Diamond pack I've ever seen before. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Ample parking in their own lot which is so great in that area of the city. Check them out its definitely worth the trip!

Store is located in a very rough neighborhood. My car was broken into outside the store in broad daylight. I made the hiketo checkout the store, everything over priced, better off buying from Amazon or at north face outlet store, or LL Bean store at mall. Places have better process and selection, was pretty disappointed for winter sports, Willy 's is even better and that is nut saying much. Why swissvale???

We love REI but it's so great to have a community-based alternative! They have a great selection of women's gear and clothing which is awesome and much-appreciated - plus they will happily order something for you if they don't have what you need in-stock. Don't the personal care products from local herbalist, Apothecary Muse! I'm really looking forward to their outdoor film screenings, too!

A little story in case you need even more reason to shop there:
I bought a kayak this fall there after getting great advice from Chris. Shortly after getting it, a small plastic piece broke off the boat (due to no one's fault). I happened to mention it to Chris one day and he made it his mission to get it fixed. I would have probably not done anything about it because I didn't want to deal with the company and the kayak was still fully useable. Chris contacted the manufacturer and got a repair kit. He welded it back together but figured out it wasn't going to hold. Then, he contacted the company again, and in the end, he got them to agree to get me a new boat since there was no way to fully fix it. Until I get the new boat in, Chris made a temporary fix on it that will hold.
The conclusion of this story is that you wouldn't get that kind of service at a big store. Three Rivers Outdoors carries brands that they trust and will provide excellent customer service.
Yooooo this store is amazing. I could spend hours in here. They have it all and the staff is super helpful. Way better than the aloof staff at the alternative outdoor super store. Especially love all the local posters and stickers! So glad to have a place like this in Pittsburgh!!
