I had an amazing time there, all of the doctors are nice. when I was 8 I broke my arm the last day of school. I was supposed to take my cast off July 5 Right AFTER the 4 of July, but instead they said that I was okay and I could take it off the 3. I was soo happy and I'm glad because the Dr. showed me that it wouldn't cut me.(Because they use like this saw). She tested on her FACE! Once the saw got to my cast, it was cutting it. Like I said I had an amazing experience!

When my husband was having what he thought was a heart attack, he received nothing but EXCELLENT care in the ORHC ED! Thank goodness it turned out to be nothing but a panic attack. But the physicians and nurses took GREAT care of him during his stay, they were very attentive and trustworthy and they even diagnosed an underlying issue that he was able to take back to his family doctor and resolve. THANK YOU ORHC!
I was seen within 20 minutes of arriving to the admitting desk. I came in with a laceration to my hand that needed sutures. The nurse was very friendly and offered me a drink right away. The bombshell Nurse Practitioner (Cathy) came in with a student np to see me within 10 minutes. She asked permission for the student to put in my sutures. I consented. She skillfully coached/observed the student who did an amazing job as well. I can't say enough great things about my provider and her positive bedside rapport. Her infectious smile and laugh we're much appreciated to help ease any anxiety I had about the procedure. I was extremely pleased with my emergency room experience. I never post reviews, however, I felt obligated to do so after receiving such great care. A big thanks to my Rockstar Nurse Practitioner, Cathy.
They charge over 12,000 dollars for one hour of service and it was my sugar level being high. I know it a hospital but the prices are sky high I feel sorry for people that don't have ins and last November 2017 I went to the ER with sever pain in my back and stomach area one time they told me to come back tomorrow and in Nov lie about they put on my report they said they was nothing wrong with me but have me pain pills and come to find out it was my liver and they did nothing about it and I've hear some real bad story's about the ER hope they get better because people won't go..
The last two times I have gone here they basically gave me the worst care possible. The first time they left me in horrible pain for over an hour until I finally said to check me out of the hospital. I checked out and went to the hospital in Sigourney. They ended up finding out I had a kidney stone. The second time two days ago I was taken by ambulance and they wouldn't take me to Sigourney because they said my fever was too high so they had to take me to Ottumwa. I was not give medicine for pain for nearly two hours. They lied to me and said they had but when I was laying there literally crying in pain they said they had only given me zofran. Which is only use to help with nausea not for pain. Then they finally gave me toridoll. Which did nothing and then Benadryl which just made me sleep the entire time. They didn't end up finding the source of the infection of just that I had a high white blood count and a slight bladder infection but they weren't sure why my white blood count was so high. Then sent me home. I ended up sleeping for literally almost 30 hours straight. I now at some point today am going to go to Sigourney hospital where they actually treat people and don't just send them on their way. I still have no idea why or what is making me so sick. Ottumwa hospital is purely a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. These people are clueless. I had a fever of 103.2 and all they did was treat the fever. That's it. Nothing else. Horrible!!!!! If yo value your life don't go to Ottumwa Regional. They shouldn't be in business as far as I am concerned.
Have to change my views on this hospital as of 9/23/19..I had to take a loved one there ..hesitatingly ..because she couldn't breathe..she got right back and immediatley 3 beautiful and knowledgeable nurses..Laura..Cheyenne and Maya..came to her aid and Dr Joshwa Tromblee was right behind them..gave her breathing treatment and meds and ordered tests..they checked on her every few minutes and offered me water..she does have pneumonia..but Dr was very clear on her instructions..because of her immune system he advised her would be better to stay out of hospital..but of course could stay if she felt like she should..as we left all the staff was saying goodbye..this was the best visit..under the circumstances..and if they could keep this team of nurses and that great Dr.they could become number one hospital again...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I took my 12 year old grandson to the E.R with an earache Saturday morning. After keeping us there for over an hour, letting us believe he would be treated, I was informed that, because he was a Medicaid patient and the earache was "non-emergent", which meant the hospital might not get paid, hospital policy dictated that he would not be treated. I was told after his examination by the doctor on duty that he would give us a prescription. It was only after I waited an additional 30 minutes for that prescription that I was advised of the hospital's policy. I was told that he would be treated in Bloomfield or Albia with no problem. So this is not common practice, at least in this area. We went to Davis County Hospital and received treatment. This was our first visit to the E.R. in over 10 years; we are not one of those families who use the E.R. as a primary physician. There was no justification for the way we were treated. I am pursuing the issue through Medicaid and any other agency or organization that I can find. My grandson was in serious pain; no child should be mistreated the way he was by this so-called "health center".
I've had some troubles so I go to Jefferson County Health Center, but I have had good and bad experiences here. Dr. Ryan Van Mannen is on staff in the ER and he is exceptional and saved my life..
Was Treated very good here, however did get skipped out on few times on meal trays. I would be sleeping, no one would wake or notify me. So they would get in rush for clean up sending back down to kitchen they just kept sending my tray back. 2nd day of missing all meals due to this. I finally asked why they kept doing that. N if they had anything at this point I was starving! Couldn't even find a way for me a after hours tray or anything. Only major disappointment.
Oh my God! This place never changes! I was here a few years ago for stitches... nobody helped me once I got in the room for 45 minutes... that trip took over 2 hours.... well this time, we brought a relative in, and everyone he called said come in immediately, so he did, but 5 1/2 hours later we are still waiting on him, and he tells us they really didn't do anything. They had to track down a doctor, gave him antibiotics. And told him to come back if anything changes. He'd had just been seen previously at another provider to have an angiogram, so we came away with some concern. As to the tardiness... I have been at this hospital several times in addition to the above... both with family/ friends and for myself... always slow. I had a kid I had to take to the er in osky, and we were on and seen in 10 minutes. Third people were friendly, but it just seems to me that an er visit wouldn't be so slow. These are my observations and opinions. Of course, if the next time I go in there and they are faster, I will amend this.
I rarely, if ever write a review for anywhere. However I will never recommend this hospital!!! Went to the E.R. where the receptionists were not wearing masks or gloves(during COVID). Doctor saw me for about a minute, would ask a question and two or three words into answering he would cut me off. Then I received the bill and was charged for things I didn't even have done! Called billing nobody could do anything they would send a request, it would take two weeks, then I call, oh it will take 3 weeks, then we will check it will take another week and we will call.No call. Call again they don't have the request back until I tell them I want to speak to someone else then they magically have them back. They are still trying to charge me for things I didn't have done. Save yourself the time and hassle! If you absolutely have to go have to them, then have them send an itemized list of charges and see how much you get charged for things you didn't have done!
The nurses in the maternity ward were great! The doctors on the other hand were terrible! (When I had my son.) I recently went there over severe Rheumatoid Arthritis with this current pregnancy. They offered me narcotics. I went to another doctor in Pella. Simply got told more information on my condition and how to cope until seen by my rheumatologist. Also got told in the ER. That with the narcotics I could pick abortion or miscarriage. During my last pregnancy, my anesthesiologist billed me wrong and also shoved a needle in my spine 3x. Also during the process told me, I can go home. I have better things to do. Always get a second opinion.
If I can give this place 0 stars I would.. This hospital sucks beyond belief. The doctors... I'm nurse practitioners are a joke. They can't help the patients they treat because they are too busy poking fun at them. I came here after I had a fall from an 8 foot roof and was treated very badly to the point where I just got up and went home. I would not ever go back even if I was dying.
For the good doctors, nurses, and staff, there are several that have punched deep holes into the bottom of what has become a sinking ship. As an investigator, I am privy to cases in which patients have fallen seriously ill, and even died after being treated at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. I strongly urge avoidance of ORHC, and would recommend any other hospital for competent, professional, courteous, and SAFE care.
I was seen in the ER today. I have nothing positive to say about this hospital. I went in with chronic hip pain. So the se on duty put in for X-rays. Soon As the dr left I asked the nurse for a Glass of water, she said ok But was never to return. They came and took me for X-rays and when they took me back to my room again I asked them to get me Some water, again they said sure they would send someone in, again nobody Came in. And a third time I asked someone for water and again no one came. I was super thirsty so I said F it I ll get my own water. I got up wobbled my way To the sink, on my way back I fell . Now I m me eyes it Was patient neglect that was the actual Cause For my fall. I asked 3 Times for water and not one person could get me a glass. So they had nurse supervisor come in to talk to me. I was super angry by Then. Not only did I fall in their care , I was denied water 3 times and I got NO NO care what so ever .sent home in more pain then when I arrived. I was treated awful after my fall, I had to use the bathroom and nurse wouldn t let me use bathroom she brought in a commode and made me use that. She left and made a male stay in with me. Was very embarrassing.
One of the worst hospital experience I've ever seen ! The surgery nurses and Doctor's were awesome ! Then our nightmare started once he was taken to his room. No nurse introduction no patient care till we asked ! After 4 hours of continuous vomiting we finally got vitals and more emesis bags done because we had to insist!! After 24 hours of horrible nursing we escaped! Mind u he had a major surgrey! Then on top of all this got notice this hospital gives u 9 months to pay and they set your payment according to your balance! When we choose to go there not any mention of this! Beware this place is the worst!
Ottumwa Regional Hospital s, Dr O , and my dads RN (Amber), have just gifted my dad with the best news!
His Ortho team is coming in on a holiday weekend to treat Dad s knees-so he can continue to recover, from a months long journey, helping him get back to home!
dealing with the records department is a bloody miserable nightmare.....slower than a snail and the release form they send you is such a poor copy,,,,,,,made with a 50 year old copier,,,,,,you can't read the darn thing.... the personnel dept needs to upgrade these people and teach them about URGENCY AND THE CUSTOMER SHOULD BE SERVED PROMPTLY!
My husband came to the ER with chest pains and later that day had a stent put in. The care he received was better then I expected until the night shift nurse in ICU came on duty. Everytime she was to check on him or do a procedure for my husband that was suppose to be checked in 15 minutes always turned into 35-60 min. When she removed the wrap from his wrist where they inserted the needle to check the arteries. It was to be checked often to make sure it wasn't bleeding. It was an hour before she came to check it. If I wasn't there to check it he could have bled out. When I asked if they had a recliner she said if we do there is very few and we r busy, you can pull two chairs together and sleep that way. When she returned to give my husband his medicine she said she looked for a recliner and didn't find one. Really? What kind of a hospital is this? He was also running a low grade fever. An hour went by and she never checked it again. I asked her if she could please check it again because I wanted to make sure it wasn't getting any higher. She said its just a low grade temp. I said I would still like it to be checked. She said I will check it in 15 minutes when I come back in. It was 35 minutes later before she came back in the room. I no they might have been busy and there might have been patients worse off then my husband but waiting an hour to check to see if he is bleeding or not is uncalled for! Also I seen a few nurses just standing around and leaning against the wall so they must have not been too busy!
Horrifyingly bad service. I cut off two fingers. Sat in the lobby for 2 hours before being "seen", which constituted finally leaving such a big pool of blood on their lobby floor that they brought me in to an ER room... and then ignored me for another 90 minutes before I actually saw a nurse. They did manage to sew my fingers back on, though months later they feel constant pain, and I can't help but think that if I had just taken the extra 30 minutes to drive to Bloomfield, I might have received real medical attention in time.
It took over an hour and a half to check in and get a xray. This hospital is a joke. The staff is so slow they stoped what they were doing and talked to a off duty nurse. They need to clean house and hire some people that are efficient and friendly not cranky and waiting to retire. Unless you come in a ambulance you might as well bring a lunch and and pillow. I travel a lot and have been to a lot of hospitals and this is by far the worst one.
Waited two hours in the emergency room with a 104 fever before being taken back to be looked at. The other people in there had been waiting for almost three hours and most of them left before anyone could actually be looked at. With the exception of one nurse, the staff did not seem to care much. They had me leave here with a 102.5 fever and then... since I'm not from here I asked them to send the meds to a nearby open pharmacy and they sent it to one clear across town that was closed. Will be driving to Pella next time.
I was having really bad hallucinations for the first time, so I had someone drive me to the 24/7 crisis center at the Southern Iowa Mental Health Clinic. They wouldn t have let my boyfriend stay overnight with me and they totally understood, so they recommended that I go to the ER to have my vitals checked and to see if I needed to take any medication. So we went to the emergency room and when I got into the room the nurse explained to me that I would have to stay 4 to 5 hours and wait to video chat with a psychiatrist and that I would need to change into a hospital gown. I was nervous and had bad anxiety because not only was it such a small room but there was a bed that took up most of the room and I had the people that dropped me off waiting for me outside. When the nurse left the room I told my boyfriend that I didn t want to stay, so he went and talked to her. When she didn t think he could hear her, she whispered to another nurse they don t want to stay that long, I think they just wanted to get meds and leave. I signed to get released and she told me feel better honey, and as I went to give my ID and insurance card to the lady at the desk, she was whispering to another girl and they both kept looking at us, so I know she was telling her about how I just wanted to get drugs and go. I ve heard so many terrible things about this hospital but since this was the closest to my location and it was an emergency I figured I had no other choice. I will NEVER come back here EVER again. It hurts knowing that these nurses are probably saying terrible things about their patients behind their backs.
Received surgery to remove a cyst on my left arm. Dr Ortell and his entire staff in the orthopedic center and the operating team were superb. Had a wonderful visit and would gladly recommend to others.
These people here are racist. They were hurting my baby. They were mistreating us as patients. They didn t want to feed me. The hospital bands that go around babies feet were also cutting her around her ankles. The nurses and dietary women didn t like feeding me. I always got one small meal. I couldn t request more food. I d go to sleep hungry. And the director of the hospital is so rude the same as all the other nurses here also. They have no respect for my baby or my privacy. They half clean their rooms and wonder why there s something else. Who can I talk to about my bad experience for myself and my child.
Decent treatment for people, but they have wonderful nurses, tech people and others who really care about their patients and how they are treated and how they feel
Very poor experience with this hospital. Not enough experienced nurses. Also people that took blood samples were very bad. I had to stop them after third or fourth try.
If course their are great and talented caring employees here.. However the service is mediocre at best. Long wait times, slow with testing and x-rays. Staff doesn't seem to have any interest in listening to all you need to tell them and I personally almost died... Seriously close to death... And it's because they wouldn't listen.
