By far the worst experience I have ever had in hea...

By far the worst experience I have ever had in healthcare. The emergency department took 2 hours to triage my condition even though I arrived with unstable vitals. It took four hours of my vomiting before I received any nausea meds(which I had to find a nurse and ask for in the waiting room.) After finally being seen, I was sent for multiple tests and had to ask several times to get antibiotics (for a recurrent infection which I have a history of) and I was told by a provider that they were doing me a favor by giving me IV fluids and antibiotics for an infection that had my heart rate resting in the 130 s. I was never given any of my test results or lab details by any member of the staff and Was placed in the back corner of triage for multiple hours while my IV ran. I have never seen or experienced anything quite like this in a healthcare, and being a healthcare worker myself I can honestly say this hospital does not advocate for the patient nor do they listen to any concerns.

My husband has stage 4 lung cancer. After reading the reviews about the hospital, I was hesitant for him to go there for an emergency when he passed out with breathing problems but we didn t have a choice. Within an hour of arriving, the PA had diagnosed him with pulmonary embolisms and had arranged transport to Vidant Medical Center. She literally saved his life.

The second time, my husband was admitted by his oncologist. The ER staff was efficient, friendly and caring. He was in the hospital for 3 days. We received excellent care during his stay. Every single person we came in contact with was remarkable and very skilled. Onslow is a wonderful hospital with excellent staff.

Went to the hospital to see about a rash She said that it could be two things but didn't do nothing further and only prescribed Iching medicine. I was charged $440.00!!! All to be told that she did not know what it was and prescribed iching medicine. I have iching medicine already, what I DON'T have is an answer to what I have. WASTE OF TIME. WORST HOSPITAL EVER.

Hands down the WORST hospital i have EVER been to. Do not come here!!!! I am pregnant with multiple infections and it's been hours since i have even seen a nurse and there are not even hardly any patients...they have not taken the urine sample i gave them, they have not checked on me at all, the pap smear has just been sitting here in the room with me for hours. Not to mention, the nurse i have and the receptionist are just SO RUDE. I told my nurse i am having chills and she pointed at my blanket and she said "well i gave you that, so there." the worst. I am about to get up and leave!!!! Do not come here ever!!! This hospital needs to be SHUT DOWN. Every visit i have had has been AWFUL.

I delivered my daughter via induction in April and had the BEST care possible at OMH! I had delivered my son just shy of 3 years prior at a women and children s specialty clinic at an acclaimed hospital in a much larger city and did not think that experience could be surpassed. To my delight OMH far surpassed what I experienced at one of the best women and children s hospital in the nation! Special thanks to John Ozard (my nurse) and Catalina Valencia (my mid-wife) who were the ones responsible for this outstanding experience!

Absolute worst bandaid station I have ever been to...

Absolute worst bandaid station I have ever been to. 7hr wait in the ER with an OPEN wound. Then when the Dr. Finally gets around to me....bedside manner absolutely deplorable. Here he is diggin in my wound no numbing no nothing. On top of that refusal to close it. Fine. But no antibiotics on a wet to dry dressing. Has this hospital no sense in infection? The incision may have to heal from the inside out, however if you are going to preech that infection is more of a risk by closing it then leaving it open to do a wet to dry dressing have enough sense to give antibiotics. You are mkre prone to infection with an OPEN wound then a closed. Especially if its a non steril dressing change ie wet to dry. Guess the Dr. Missed that in med school.

I get a 2nd opinion from Carteret ER their first statement. Infection and antibiotics....common sense!....and they "closed" it with steri strips....allow it to still breathe but promote healing by placing it closer together. To top it off with the wound is inface infected. Good to know Onslow didn't care.

This has detered me from even working at this hospital.....onslow has 0 bedside manner. Out of the dozen people i encountered at the ER only 2 were actually friendly. The Dr. A complete jerk!

4/30/17-9pm Came with my 3 month pregnant niece because she was bleeding. Sat in the waiting room for over an hour waiting to be called back. Nurses seemed a little spaced out and unaware of where they were. Didn't treat patients with urgency. Just acted as though the situation wasn't possibly life threatening to both my niece and her unborn child. I wouldn't advise anyone to come to this hospital emergency room for any emergency. Nurse Liz openly stated that she hadn't checked the waiting room in 3 hours while surrounded by at least 30 people waiting for themselves or a family member to be seen for some sort of care. Sad

I checked in this morning at 1240 with my 9 month old baby and there were plenty of people in the waiting area, so I understand being delayed. However what I do not understand is getting put in a room finally at 0500 am being told 5 people are ahead of us and it being 0706 with no doctor in sight! This is by far the worst visit I have had here as far as waiting times... I honestly think we have been forgotten about

0726 I went out to the nurses station to find out what's going and it was shift change so they have no idea who our nurse is

0732 Our nurse came in to introduce herself and we asked when we can see a provider seeing it has almost 8 hours at this point and she says now we have 3 people ahead of us

0846 we still haven't seen a provider and a nurse came in for vitals...

My husband received great care from this hospital after his dirt bike accident. It was a holiday weekend, and they called in a specialist and didn't delay when it came to scheduling his surgery and giving him the care he needed.

Was moved into a room in the ER at 3pm. Was left alone for hours. Freezing with no pillow. The iv ran out and no one came. They gave me no call bell so I was yelling for a nurse and no one came. Then at 8 pm they tell me they are going to transport me to vidant for further care when I didn't even need to go because what I came in there for was already taken care of. The nurse I had was very rude and condescending. Will never go here again.

I cannot Express enough how wonderful Onslow Memorial is with their patients in labor and delivery and momma and baby side! Theres no words to describe how amazing the staff was. The labor and delivery nurses I had were phenomenal. They rarely left my room. They helped me through all my contractions as they came on strong and fast and were so supportive! When the dr delivered my daughter she was so personal and reassuring. It made me so relaxed that I was able to focus on having a happy and healthy labor that brought us our beautiful little girl in the world. The nurses even grabbed our phone for us to take pics! They were so caring! Then on momma and baby side I had some of the sweetest ladies ever taking care of me and baby. I was so spoiled and the floor had plenty of patients. Those ladies bust their butts up their and they truly care! Then I get a phone call today from a gentleman in labor and delivery asking how I was feeling and if I were to need anything to call them! I highly recommend delivering there. We would like another child and I look forward to the day I get to return to a place who I felt so at home and cared for. This was my 4th birth so this is coming from someone who has seen how everything goes and what to expect. Keep up the good work ladies!!

February 20th, 2017

February 20th, 2017
First problem arises that I am in a waiting room for 4 hours with 3 sick children all having fevers when admitted. Problem being is that these are CHILDREN and anyone ESPECIALLY a child with a high fever should at least be given something for comfort especially at a hospital where they have people waiting for over 3 hours. So question does Onslow Memorial also pay funeral expenses and pain and suffering for situations that could be avoided (i.e. the DAMAMGE fever can do to the human body) First thing I was taught in health care was that the patient is the main priority but unfortunately at this hospital the MONEY is the priority. Also I would like to add that the front desk person whom was there was ABSOLUTELY the rudest person I have ran across at this facility so far. Be you intake, billing, whatever I am sure that there is EXTENSIVE training on proper patient care.

This place is a joke. If you go to the ER they take 4 hours to see you just to rush you out without answers and help.
Labor and delivery is extremely slow, and the doctor I have doesnt want to listen to what I have to say. I've been sitting here for hours crying in pain but no one cares I guess. I definitely wont be delivering my baby here if I can make it to New Hanover in time.

My daughter went to Onslow by rescue squad she had passed out at work just a couple of days after she had went to Onslow and they said twice she had an infection . We waited in the room for almost 7 hours and she was running a fever, in pain and had a very bad headache. She only received two bags of fluid the entire time she was there. She ended up leaving without actually knowing what was wrong with her. I rather travel an hour or two away then a few minutes down the road. Sorry sorry and sorry.

My mother was rushed to hospital for a possible overdose and treated by docs for this after I told the doctors that I wasn't sure but that 67 were missing from bottle she couldn't speak for herself so I had to for her. The doctor who came in Eleanor Thing, DO was so unbelievably rude I almost died. She accused me of taking the pills and said, why if I took her other pills from her I didn't take the gabapentin? If my niece wasn't sitting on my lap I would have thrown a fit. Then the next day I go to visit my mother who is on suicide watch and the, Sitter who was watching her had an attitude as soon as I got there kicked me out by slamming her hands down on her keyboard and saying that it was enough and to leave or she would call security. I did nothing but question her about why she took 67 pills in 5 days and if she didn't where were they since I have 2 small boys. She has no clue what all I have dealt with in all this. The hospital is the worst treatment I have ever been given. If it weren't for the few nurses who were amazing I just don't know how my mom could have gotten through whatever made her have the seizures. If I hadn't been there I promise the ones who had no clue what they were doing would have killed her.

My husband had a kidney biopsy yesterday. We started in the surgical pavilion, moved to radiology for the procedure, back to the surgical pavilion, and then to the ER after he experienced some complications. The staff was outstanding and exceeded my expectations of care and kindness, particularly at the surgical pavilion. I haven't been into a medical facility and encountered so many genuinely caring people for a long time. His nurse in the surgical center even came over the the ER a few hours after he was moved just to check on my husband and give me some encouragement on a rough day. They were all knowledgeable, very efficient, and caring. Medical circumstances are never fun but it makes a big difference to be in the hands of caring professionals. Thank you Onslow Memorial.

Husband went in for injury above eye & hurt leg from bad fall.(bleeding from above eye from his glasses breaking off into his skin from fall) He is Type 1 diabetic and EMS checked his sugar on way to hospital and it was 64. EMS let nurse know his glucose was low and they had him sit for almost an hour without giving him anything to drink or snack on to get his sugar regulated.

I have been to Onslow many times over the years. Some good some not so good experiences.i have been very sick and have been to many specialty doctors that have not been able to figure out my problem. I went to the ER yesterday via Onslow county EMS. I was treated great from the time I got there. The RN Chris went above and beyond to make me comfortable and to feel better. The Provider on duty DR McCoy was Awesome he listened to me and really cared about my situation. He ordered a couple test which didn't show us anything. He ordered a HIDA scan. He said it was his first time in 15 years he has ordered this test. Well low and behold the test found the problem the we have searched for since 1994. Your Radiology department is top notch as far as I am concerned. I owe my life to all the staff and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

My dads in the hospital here now, no one knows whats going on with what. They shouldnt have brought him food yesterday afternoon when he went to his room they knew he had a possibility of surgery... surgeon comes into the room and he himself was upset they fed him bc he needs surgery on the foot... btw he's diabetic, in a lot of pain and we have called several times for something for the pain. This morning at 730am the surgeon ordered for his foot to scrubbed brushed and now 1231 still not completed. My mom had to ask about what was going on with that, they said they will bring pain meds let that settle in then come do it that was 30 min ago. Absolutely horrible service here, while i understand theres more then one patient that needs to be cared for this is still unacceptable.. the ratings on this hospital shows we are not the only one with this kind of experience.

Oh nurse just came in now at 12:36pm with pain meds and ready ti scrub away. 5 hours later ....

Freaking shameful behavior on behalf of the woman ...

Freaking shameful behavior on behalf of the woman answering phones in the ER. My daughter has hormonal imbalances and was in dire need of a medication that we did not have our hands on, so i called them to ask if they could help. When i asked why she could not give me a definite answer as to whether or not they could treat my daughter SHE HUNG UP ON ME. I wasn't rude or disrespectful in the slightest, i said, "why?" And then click. Unprofessional. I'm supposed to be delivering there in January.

Update: decided to stay with my doctors and deliver here: it went GREAT. The nurses have been a blessing, my labor went beautifully and they helped me maintain my goal of no pain relief. The nurses have been keeping a close eye on my bleeding, as i had pretty severe hemorrhaging after giving birth to my daughter 5 years ago. I strongly recommend the l&d and the postpartum department. They know what they're doing... although i did have one nurse that seemed clueless in postpartum everyone else is highly knowledgeable and on top of it.

This hospital does not deserve star. Room was nasty i couldn't put my baby on that bed so i put blanket down. When i seen their was needle fill up with something in it. By the sink area. Nurse came in gave my 7 month old to test and she said it be down 45 mins and doctor would be in. I wait 4 hours and still no doctor. And they told me 2 people was head of me 3 hours going and then told my boyfriend their was couple people head of us and another doctor was coming in. So another hour pass by and still no doctor. Boyfriend went back out and ask how much longer in till the doctor see the chart and they said shouldn't be much longer. Why this all going on they have good o time talking about me as mother and how. This place would let your baby died and have no feelings about it. I don't even know how this place get raid for cleanse and safety because what i see nothing safe about that. This place should be shut down or new owners or something. Doctor's unorganized and so nurses and unprofessional. Dont take chances. Please go somewhere else they let you died or kids died and have no feels about what they done.

Waited from 7:30 pm to 1:30 am with a family member with a cardiac condition in Afib. He was triaged and told to wait. Went up twice to report additional chest pain and increase in pulse rate and was told he would be monitored. That was not the case. We were told at 1:30 am that they did not know when he would be seen by a doctor because they had too many people there and no beds. He was not seen by a physician although a physician looked at his chart and ordered chest xray and blood test which were done but not addressed while we sat in the waiting area. We left then and went to ER in New Bern where he was immediately brought in and seen by a cardiologist. OMH is not equipped or staffed adequately for the amount of emergencies it receives. There was garbage and food on the floors and bathroom was filthy. I don t recommend anyone going there ever. The 45 min drive to New Bern was worth it. 6 hours waiting at OMH is not acceptable.

The worst experience of my life. I took my sick 7 month-old to the emergency room with a fever and projectile vomiting. We were there at 2pm and walked out at 6pm. After no assistance. You could tell the nurses did not care. Especially after asking for help more than once. I asked one nurse and she said she would tell the other nurse to help. If u don't want to save lives
DON'T GO INTO THE MEDICAL FIELD
if anything happens to my child there will be hell to pay. It's sucks for ppl like me who live around her and only limited to that hospital. I will never recommend ANYONE to this hospital not even for a splinter

I did have to wait a while in the ER but so be it. It is what it is and these guys are busy. I came in with horrible abdominal pain and what I thought was food poisoning but it was appendicitis. Yay. Everyone was so helpful and kind and I am so happy I was able to get that darn appendix out. I don t remember everyone s name and I wish I could thank them individually, but thank you Jeremy for doping me up and prepping me for surgery. Thank you to nurses Maria, Nikki and all the other wonderful ladies who took care of me. You guys are the best.

Worst hospital i have ever been to. The unprofessional staff is insane. I have never met as much incompetent people in a profession ever. I take my son there, whom had a huge gash on his head, and they're taking there sweet old time and not even keeping us in the loop of being seen. It shouldnt take my six year old 3 hours to be seen, when his injuries could be life threatening. Im still here now. But i tell you what, if my son gets worst you can bet.your bottom dollar im suing this hospital and wont stop until the federal government gets involved and shuts this damn hosptial down. Smh

I gave birth at Onslow Memorial on Wednesday. I am a first time mom and was very nervous/scared/excited, etc. all the normal emotions a new mom would be feeling. The L & D floor at Onslow Memorial surpassed my expectations on every level by a landslide. The staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and informative of everything to keep me updated. The food was actually delicious for hospital food. My baby was handled with such love and care. I was ready to go home after being in labor for 17 hours but sad to leave because they really do treat you with so much hospitality and care. I am SO thankful for all of my nurses and doctors that helped make my birthing experience so wonderful. I would hands down deliver here again with my next baby!

I have had a very FEW great experiences with omh but more bad than good. I could write a book on onslow memorial hospital but I'll save my time because they dont deserve a book or my effort. I have had no choice but to come here for years, surgerys for me, my kids etc. They didn't stich me back right 4 different times, they have caused more harm than good. They told me my son was going to die because the gave him to many doses of medication smh all I'm going to say is when it comes to onslow memorial hospital RUN FAR AWAY (unless you absolutely half to go because its the closest one)

As a recent transplant to Jacksonville NC, I dreaded Onslow County after hearing so many horrible stories. I gave them 3 stars because although the wait was utterly ridiculous and I was super frustrated waiting from 10pm-4am to be placed in a room. The techs, nurses and doctor were wonderful. They ran test, x-rays, and addl test to diagnose and treat me with pneumonia. The doc was compassionate and due to my previous history with pulmonary embolisms made sure she prescribed the correct meds, my labs were correct and made me as comfortable as possible.

They have been beyond amazing both times I've been...

They have been beyond amazing both times I've been. Being chronically ill I've been in my fair share of er's across the country and they are how I wished all of them would have been. They are kind caring and attentive. They listen and don't dismiss your pain. They go above and beyond to make sure you know what's going on and to do all they can for you. With this latest stay I got more information on my back than I have in 20 years. I also found out I have another genetic disorder but I feel more at ease about it knowing they are less than an hour from me. Yes I pass 3 hospitals to get to Onslow but the care is completely worth it.

Edit
I've gone through all the reviews and the people down voting it have no idea what a bad hospital is and are mostly impatient children. 6 painful debilitating genetic disorders keep me in and out and I move a lot. For real if you have an issue go to this hospital. Complaining about a 3 hour wait... I've waited 12 hours with before 6 to 8 is standard on weekends. It's gonna take longer on holidays and at night. Stop bothering the staff so they can get stuff done stop bringing in kids for low grade fevers unless the child has an underlying health issue and stop using the er as a GP and schedule an appointment with your doctor. I understand some people need to use the er as a doctor but you are doing it at the very first sign of everything give your immune system a chance again unless you have an underlying condition. Also your local area has a free or low cost clinic and they give you the information for it please start utilizing those so that way you can get continuous care and preventative medicine along with more complete medical records. They are who can get you on a treatment plan. Don't bother the staff you make them forget what they were doing and mess with everyone. if you start seeing a few people go in before you that came after you that don't appear to have a more severe situation as you and again you can't really tell go up and say "pardon me I was just making sure my name wasn't already called and I was zoned into my phone or something." Stop being mean to these people they are at work and are doing the best they can. I've been to some of the "best" hospital and these guys are hands down better. Do better for them and accept that you may not be the worst case in the waiting room and you will make everyone's experience more enjoyable.

Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk

I went there at around 6-7pm. Dislocated patella, in other words dislocated kneecap. They were horrible they had me sit there for about 7 hours and more waiting with my knee dislocated. They tried numbing me after I sat there for 7 hours then started on the relocation of my knee. I was screaming they said not too, then they knocked me out. Fixed my knee I remember waking up alone and feeling the need to vomit I pressed the nurse button 10 times no one came, I was soo confused and out of it that all I could say was water n I said it for about 10 mins so I started saying help help very loudly, because I also needed to vomit. They finally came and said ma ma you can t be yelling for stuff... and I was like I m so confused please can I have some water and a bag to throw up in and I always have to pee. They took some sucking tube out of me that was for me to pee. N I said I had to pee they said too bad should have peed when u had it. Then they lied said I was going to another room left me in a hallway. I threw up on myself and also peed on myself. They laughed said I could clean myself at home. No I don t know any names. Also one nurse snatched my cell of me n said where s your husband he needs to come get you already. Soo much attitude and rudeness for no reason. I will never go there again.

My mother was admitted for vomiting blood. They gave her pain meds and left her for hours. I arrived to her room after she said she was being released, expecting a few minutes to get discharge papers, walk into the room and there was trash everywhere from the medical team. A vial of her blood, laying on a table near her. She had removed the diodes to get a nurse to come to her because the button wasn't working. Nobody checked on her, and her machine was posting flatlined. Really? Stay away from this hospital if you wish to live if you have an emergency, Veterans especially. My mothers 100% disabled and a veteran of the Navy.

This hospital is an absolute joke. The staff must have gotten their training from a Cracker Jack box. I brought my wife in tonight for breathing problems and they had her wait for 7 hours in the waiting room alone while only doing basic intake tests. Meanwhile she had multiple panic attacks due to the respiratory distress. She was literally getting into the car to go home when they magically pulled a room out of thin air for her. Not only are these people negligent of their duties they are going to have someone die in the waiting room. And the best they can do is give out a PR woman s name and number with the 100+ reviews of Inadequate care. They know there is a problem and have refused to fix it for at least the three years I ve been here. This is not even including grossly marking up their cost of services. Onslow Memorial you should be ashamed of yourself.

They're the worst by far and very, very unprofessional when interacting with people over the phone. I waiting for someone to pick up the phone well over 20-30 mins just to check the status of my Mom to get hung up on. Then the RN Morgan was very rude when it came to me wanting to know certain things about what was going on with my Mom. The experience was awful and if you care about anyone who is sick or elderly this is not where you would want them to be admitted to. The rating for this hospital to me would be NEGATIVE whatever numbers YOU want to add. They're not working for the passion for what they job call for, it's the pay real talk. Even from me going, family members going and visitor's every experience was a HOT MESS!

If I could give -5 stars I would! On Tue. 2-25-20 I was treated very poorly by the ER triage staff. Very unprofessional! I had been to the hospital prior for very high blood pressure issues. The Physician's Assistant who had dark hair female who had a pony tail told me I was being counter productive to them by coming in again and having them do another work up on me. She was rude, talked to me unkindly and told me to go home. I tried to explain my Primary Doctor was the one who had sent me to the ER but she acted as if she didn't believe me and said she would call him. I told her to do so. The red haired triage nurse was also very rude. After asking to see a patient advocate, which they NEVER called, I told the red haired triage nurse that by law they have to treat me. She said, and I quote "Shut up you are getting a room." I was taken to a room with chairs to sit and wait. No one came to check on me or anything. I was left in there and given dirty looks / ignored until the Dr came in. I felt very brushed under the rug by everyone at this horrible hospital. I'm now terrified to even use this hospital again for fear they marked my record or something and will ignore any issues I have. This is not how to treat patients. I was not there to seek opioids or any drug addict, I'm a regular person who NEEDED care, was concerned for their help and shown no care whatsoever.

I suppose I need to get comfortable with driving out of town to a hospital for care which is ridiculous when taxes go to a local one. I suggest all their employees go through sensitivity training or better yet they clean house of all the lousy staff that is only there to collect a pay check and not perform their job responsibly.

The worst hospital ever, I gave birth here to my daughter and all the nurses were rude. Everytime I buzzed for help the would take like 20 mins to come, after I noticed the pattern my husband would just go out there and personally find a nurse and tell them I needed them. Only reason their getting 2 stars is because my beautiful daughter was born there

First time at this hospital and my experience was favorable, but not great.
Reading the reviews left me with a feeling of awe. Hospital was clean, staff was prompt and attentive. On call doctor was professional, courteous, and prompt. Went to ER, no one was waiting and was quickly addmitted. Only thing negative was that the doctor only treated the obvious and did not pursue the not so obviius problems...

Had to take my wife to onslow memorial hospital with chest pains at 3am . We had been to a large cardiac hospital in western North Carolina three times in the last 13 months and they found nothing whatsoever. I feel god brought us 9 hours from home and placed us in this hospital to answer our prayers. The er staff was spot on and a team of 6 or more worked feverishly to to get her heart into a normal sinus rhythm. They had to shock her to get her heart into rhythm after nothing else had worked. The after care over the next few days was also exemplary , from housekeeping to the nurses and doctors. Thank you onslow , you saved me and my wife . Christ's Peace and love

Went to the XRay department and had a great experience. I was taken care of promptly, the staff was courteous, professional and caring. My procedure could have been a painful experience, but everyone taking care of me made it look easy when I know it could be complex. This department definetely earned my praises and I will choose them anytime if given the opportunity to choose if the need arises.

My son was admitted recently his stay was for five days. The whole experience was very comforting. The nurses Joyce, Linsie, Melissa, Sara, Fancy Nancy and all staff were very caring, committed to the well being of my son and my concerns as well. Quality of care this hospital offer to us was a great experience. The pediatrician physicians also demonstrate the same care to my son. This was my son first time staying in the hospital he was terrified these nurses cared for him with compassion along with the medical care professionalism. Worked very hard. I'm happy and satisfied the care my son recieved at this hospital. Thank you and I appreciate everyone involved helping my son.

This hospital is HORRIBLE. My husband had to come here because the VA referred him for lower back pain we sat here for WELL over 4 hours with our 8 month old son screaming because I wasn t able to breastfeed him while I was here. This is by far the WORST hospital in the area. If you re dying I wouldn t even recommend coming here as a last resort. They d let you die in the waiting room.

It seems that when one checks reviews of hospitals...

It seems that when one checks reviews of hospitals, they're almost universally bad. I'm not sure why that is; maybe it's because hospitals by nature are places people neither want to visit nor deal with. And so it is with Onslow Memorial. But, on the night of June 8-9, 2020, while on vacation at North Topsail Beach, my kidneys chose to proudly and very painfully inform me that they had made rocks, and they wanted me to know about it.

I got the not-so-subtle hint, responded by writhing in intense pain, and was driven to the Onslow Memorial ER by my wife just before midnight.

I was in the ER for several hours. I waited quite a while at various stages of the process. But see, that's just part of the experience sometimes, no matter where you need to visit. For example, two people came in with chest pain, so naturally they went back before I did. If we remember that it's not all about us, and that people are working as hard as they can to provide the best care they can, it sort of fits into a different perspective. Even when you're hurting.

But I say all that to say that even with the waiting, I was given care that I am encouraged to review well. I counted, from receptionists to nurses to radiology techs to FNPs, seven people from whom I received care in the Onslow ER, and, to an individual, every single one was pleasant, kind, and even had a little humor thrown in here and there, which I certainly appreciated.

Thank you, Onslow Memorial, for taking care of this walking gravel factory, and sending him back to the rest of his vacation being thankful that something that was necessary was done well.

If you have cancer, I would seriously get a second...

If you have cancer, I would seriously get a second opinion of the Radiology department's interpretations. My fiance is battling 2 types of Lymphoma ( an indolent type and an aggressive type) and was sent by his Oncologist to Onslow Memorial's Radiology department to get a PET scan done. When the results came back, the person who interpreted the images said that they saw no areas of abnormal metabolic activity in the areas of the head and neck. Around 2 weeks later, my fiance had to go to UNC Chapel Hill's Cancer Center and the doctors needed the copy of the images from the Onslow Memorial Hospital PET scan . The doctors there interpreted the same images and said that there was uptake overlying his left masseter muscle and it may represent inflammation or small soft tissue node. There was also mention that the area may have mildly increased in intensity from the prior PET scan( also done at Onslow Memorial, and that PET scan showed nothing in the head and neck area either). I have serious doubts about the expertise of this hospital's radiology department after this incident. If you live in, or around Jacksonville, and your Oncologist wants you to have a PET scan done at Onslow Memorial, seriously, if it is possible, please think of going somewhere else to get it done.

Onslow Memorial is and has always been a horrific hospital! I would highly recommend if you can make it to another hospital like New Bern, Greenville, or really ANY other facility, please do. The experiences that I have had with so many family members is appalling to say the least. This facility is dirty, the professionalism is minimal at best, their bedside manner is nil, and the wait time is beyond what should be acceptable. They are constantly saying they are under staffed....that should not be an acceptable excuse for so many years. The ER underwent a remodel but the staff and the service hasn't changed. You can change appearances, but if the service doesn't change then all you did was waste money. This place is an absolute disgrace. I urge anyone who can to please go to another facility whenever possible! I am only giving them a 1 because 0 is not an option :(

**Attention long post** but it needs to be herd!!!
Had my third baby girl here on 9-11-2020. My first baby at Onslow. I have to admit that I was worried especially hearing stories from others. Buttttt I was completely wrong. I believe in being a half full person not half empty.
From the moment my husband and I walked in the door was where the best experience started. I was nervous so I don t remember the receptionists name but she was a doll and very informative. Then we get into L&D it was 6:30am almost change over. The nurses that would be leaving prepped me and got me settled before their replacements would be in. They were the sweetest. Then my nurse, who I now consider a friend, came on. Rachel Hanford, she made me feel so empowered as a woman. I had complete say so in my birth plan with a little guidance. I wanted to try to have them break my water but due to baby being high they didn t recommend it. Which I totally respect them for that. We had to start pit. which I didn t want but knew it was what needed to be done to get baby out healthy. Rachel taught me great breathing techniques because I also didn t want an epidural. I was hell bent on no epidural. Like I said I had two other babies(11 and 7) I was younger and I don t remember their births... I had pain meds with my oldest and my second the nurse didn t keep me informed like I should have been.
At 1pm that day I was told I was in active labor. Again worked on my breathing techniques, walked around the room, stood, and bounced. Then at 5pm I felt like she was coming. Within 10 mins I was pushing. All with amazing support system (which was amazing because I wasn t able to have my personal support due to Covid) but with my husband, Rachel, Dr Hoffman, and the nursery nurses I pushed two times and she was out. Healthy babygirl without an epidural! She came so fast it scared me and I felt like I didn t have it together. But they reassured me I was a rock star, words of Felicia the scrub nurse. The care they gave me in my weakest and most valuable time was top notch! Then the postpartum nurse were angels. Even down to our cleaning lady Ms Janice, she was the sweetest. One of the most special and intimate memories. I truly want to experience the moment again with how precious it was... or maybe have another baby here in the future! I thank each and everyone one of you that made it all possible especially during this pandemic. You guys are the real MVP s!!!
The only thing is I wish they would update the maternity ward to reflect the skills and professionalism of the staff... and maybe the food.

The ER staff does not listen and does not help anyone. After they do blood work and it shows nothing then a CT scan &it shows nothing, they just quit and say oh you might have COVID! So they give you a nasal swab test for the virus and send you home to self quarantine! How does a medical doctor not recognize gallbladder disease? More than that, how do they confuse gallbladder disease with COVID-19?!?!
I WOULDN'T TAKE MY DOG TO THIS PLACE!

I'm giving my review of two stars only because the nurse and doctor that saw my son were very good and caring. The front Staff, however, a different story. I rushed my child in bc he was having a hard time breathing with croup and asthma. The lady at the front desk was too busy flirting with the cop she wasn't paying attention to us at all. I had to keep getting her attention just to ask for a pEn. She never even asked us why we were there and what was wrong.

FOR EXPECTING PARENTS: Please know the hospital staff are awesome. BUT I am reviewing a company ran through the hospital because they are so bad. Mom365 is a photographing company for newborns and family.

Please.... DO NOT PURCHASE anything from them. Even if they pester you.

1. IT IS OVER PRICED. 2. THEY ARE PUSHY AND DO NOT GIVE YOU PERSONAL SPACE AFTER GIVING BIRTH. 3. THEY DO NOT SEND YOU WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND WHEN YOU CONTACT CORPORATE, THEY DO NOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM BUT ASK FOR MORE MONEY! Unreal.

Again, hospital staff were incredibly helpful. However, the hospital should not be sponsoring this company that takes advantage of tired, new expectant parents. Terrible company. Get photos done by a professional. Not by this horrendous company.

After moving to Jacksonville from Pa..the need finally arose to seek out a hospital. I was in severe abdominal pain for 3 days prior to Feb.2nd.So i look on line for the closest E.R. So i go to onslow memorial. All were caring and sympathetic to my condition.Cant thank all involved enough.

I would give it no stars if i could but you have to put a star just to rate this crappy hospital. This is by far the worst hospital you can go to. God forbid you really need help, you may die before you get it. You will be better off driving all the way to Wilmington and go to their hospital then drive back home. You will have a better chance of being seen before anyone at Onslow Memorial Hospital. I feel bad for all the parents out there that have gone there before, they all know how bad it truly is, waiting to be seen as others walk in after them and are seen before them. Now I understand if someone really needs it however if the person looks fine and is texting and joking around and still get seen before a crying child, now that is outrageous. It's sad that myself and other parents have felt like they should call an ambulance just to get a room instead of waiting for hours before they wI'll get seen. Let's not forget to mention the staff starting from the front desk, rude doesn't even begin to cover it, to them you are just a number and if you are not on top of them, they will forget you are even there. The nurses are the only barely good thing about this hospital, they seem to care, at least while they are in the room with you, after that if you don't page them a few times then again you are forgotten. Now the doctors, these people with medical degrees may need to go back to school and learn how to treat people. During my 1st pregnancy, I was in a accident and was taking to OMH, the doctor walked in and didn't even examine me and said you are having a miscarriage. I felt destroyed, come to find out later that the baby was fine and now he is 7yrs old and healthy. There are so many more stories of horrible times that I or someone I know have had at this hellhole, that I can go on for days about but you will have to find out yourself. It is sad that this is our local hospital. God bless all the patients that have to go there.

My Mother just spent four nights at OMH. She went in Friday and could not lift her head off the pillow. By Saturday she was a little better. Sunday she was a lot better and could have probably gone home on Monday but the doctor wanted to keep her one more night just to be safe. They moved her off the fourth floor to the 2nd floor which is actually the maternity ward. She said the staff could not have been nicer to her on both floors! She actually said she felt like she was staying in a five star hotel.

Thank you to everyone at OMH for taking such good care of my special Mother!

I went to the ER because my throat was closing up due to allergic reaction. I was seen right away. I thought the service was good until I got into a patient room. A nurse swabbed my throat for testing. From there I waited two in a half hours before I, myself went to go get someone. They forgot about me. When they sent a doctor. He asked me what the issue was. He had no idea what I was there for. I told him what was wrong. Then he wanted to swab my throat. I told him that a nurse already did. Moral of the story. They are very unorganized and the service is horrible! They had no idea what was wrong with my throat so they treated it like strep throat. Even though my cotton swab came back negative for that. I was told I was gonna receive a follow up call to tell me what I had after the cotton swab had more testing done. However, I never did. This hospital is so bad and so embarrassing.

I am very disgusted with the way things happened during my recent hospital visit!! I was there for 9 hours with only a blood test and urinalysis being done !! And I went because of severe migraines, nose bleeds, and random "black outs"! Never was I asked my allergies to medicines before giving me 4 different meds! I wasn't hooked up to an IV until after 6 hours of being there ! There was no bed in my room, only a very uncomfortable chair!! And to add to that, the nurse I had was VERY rude !! The doctor was definitely playing the guessing game with every medicine he gave me & still didn't diagnose the issue!! I was moved to 3 different rooms, one being with 5 other patients to wait for test results! I could go on and on about how horrible the whole experience was, but hopefully my point have been made already !

I had knee reconstruction surgery and was in alot of pain the nurses kept saying they are waiting for the pain med. I waited over 30 minutes again and pushed the nurse call button and they came in and said the same thing. I waitied again for over 30 minutes and pushed the button, this time the nurse turned off the call button and i had to suffer with the pain for another 1 hour when my husband arrive. He saw the intense pain I was in an pushed the button and it was ignored, no nurse. He went to the nurses station and went off on them and then the nurses came and gave me my pain med along with nausea medication. By that time i was in such severe pain that I started vomitting violently.

I will never have surgery at Onslow Memorial Hospital, I think having surgery in a third world country, the staff probably would be more humane. The surgery went well, but the aftercare really sucked.
I don't know why I was so surprised by the staff, because back in 96' I had a stroke and the neurologist on duty at ER diagnosed me with a pinched nerve, gave me a shot, and sent me home. The next day I kept passing out and when my friend called the nurse at the ER and told her my symptom, which I told the neuro the night before, the nurse said bring you friend in now, she's having a stroke. Yes I had a stroke and the doctor at the ER handed me a lists of neurologist in jville and sent me home. No treatment, no meds, no aftercare instruction, just a list of neuro. Unbelievable, and sad.

My husband is suffering from COPD and is a type 1 diabetic. He had the misfortune of being taken to Onslow Memorial by Ambulance. They kept him for 4 days. They decided not to let him take his long acting insulan which caused him to have a dangerous sugar level of 500 when he came home. Also didn't make sure he had proper medication for his COPD. One of the most inefficient hospitals I have ever had the displeasure of being in. We went to the EMERGENCY side of the hospital and waited over four hours and eventually after my wife was mentally distraught and physically beaten down, we left and went to another hospital 30 mins away. During the wait, I spoke with some of the other individuals waiting, and inquired about their wait times. One gentlemen has been waiting for FIVE hours! This hospital must pride itself on making people wait. Another lady ecen stated that she brought her child in with 102 degree fever and they made them wait FOUR hours before seeing them. Even if I was bleeding profusely from an artery, I will find another hospital to go to. Never again.

Terrible experience, I would NOT go to the ER if I could help it. They had no one in the waiting room( so I assume they were slow) we waited over and hour and asked 3 times just to get a cup of water. Then waited another two hours for the doc to come in and talk to us. Then 40 min to get an x-Ray. Then another hour and thirty minutes for the doctor or nurse to tell us anything. The nurses rarely check on you(checked twice my entire visit) and the service by all the staff including the doctor is slow. I recommend If you can make the drive go to Wilmington for emergency care. Worst ER care I've seen!
