If you have cancer, I would seriously get a second opinion of the Radiology department's interpretations. My fiance is battling 2 types of Lymphoma ( an indolent type and an aggressive type) and was sent by his Oncologist to Onslow Memorial's Radiology department to get a PET scan done. When the results came back, the person who interpreted the images said that they saw no areas of abnormal metabolic activity in the areas of the head and neck. Around 2 weeks later, my fiance had to go to UNC Chapel Hill's Cancer Center and the doctors needed the copy of the images from the Onslow Memorial Hospital PET scan . The doctors there interpreted the same images and said that there was uptake overlying his left masseter muscle and it may represent inflammation or small soft tissue node. There was also mention that the area may have mildly increased in intensity from the prior PET scan( also done at Onslow Memorial, and that PET scan showed nothing in the head and neck area either). I have serious doubts about the expertise of this hospital's radiology department after this incident. If you live in, or around Jacksonville, and your Oncologist wants you to have a PET scan done at Onslow Memorial, seriously, if it is possible, please think of going somewhere else to get it done.
