Odessa Restaurant Review

I was a bit upset recently when I read Veselka was rated one of the top diners in NYC, since I think Odessa is so much better. Both have similar types of food, but Odessa is way more flavorful in my opinion. For instance, Odessa's potato pancakes are more fine & rich, where as whenever I get Velselka it's more like latkas, the more grated hash brown kind of pancake, which is usually burnt. Pirogies also taste better here. Odessa's prices are also better value for what you get.

This place is awesome. They've got cheap diner classics as well as some Ukrainian staples. It's quiet, unassuming, never to busy, the perfect amount of people watching... It's great.

It's a 24/7 diner that you might not even notice on the street. Perfect for a late night snack or a meetup with friends.

You might even recognize this spot from the Netflix show Russian Dolls.

I love Odessas. Its been a neighborhood favorite for the past 40 years....the time that I lived here. Breakfast any time of the day and daily specials!!!!!

THIS PLACE WAS SUPER DISAPPOINTING.THE OWNER/MANAGER WAS VERY ABUSIVE AND RUDE TO ME. HE'S LUCKY I DIDN'T CALL THE POLICE. HE'S ALSO VERY LUCKY I DIDN'T HAVE MY HUSBAND WITH ME WHEN HE CALLED ME ABUSIVE NAMES. I PAID $50 FOR THOSE 2 DISHES AND I DIDN'T DESERVE TO BE TREATED LIKE A VAGRANT ASKING FOR MONEY. I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I VISITED IN THE 80'S; THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS DELIGHTFUL. NOW, THE FOOD WAS AVERAGE AT BEST AND THE PRESENTATION WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL.

This place is horrible; rude waiters and managers, plus the food is nothing special at all. There are way too many other places to eat than to spend any of your hard earned money and precious time at this low class establishment.

Food used to be good and fairly priced. That is no longer.

How could anyone NOT love this place??! Perfect location in Alphabet City, this smooth little affordable diner is open 24 hours and serves up fantastic breakfast specialties all day, plus all the usual classics. Probably not the best place if you have imaginary food sensitivities but if you're 'normal', you'll find something to love in the gigantic menu. Plus they serve beer and wine. Staff is friendly and patient with all the drunken antics from the nearby East Village bro-douches and their dimwitted girlfriends. Highly recommended.

Great service, excellent comfort food, good old fasion style diner. The spanish gentleman who sat us treated us as if he owed the place and made us all feel very welcome!

Not as great as I remember it was when I was a kid. But it is 24 hrs.

I grew up right around the corner of this place and it's been delicious since I can remember!!! Unfortunately it's closed for improvements as of now!!!! When it reopens I would recommend the disco fries with American cheese and the potato perogies with the fried onions.

A russian/polish diner. They serve russian food that is near and dear to my heart, such as cabbage stuffed with ground meet, blintzes (crapes) and polish pirogies. The rest of the food is similar to an american diner with pancakes and eggs for breakfast, and burgers and wings for dinner. They do have many options however, so even a picky eater will find something to order. The prices are inexpensive and this place is perfect for after midnight dining as they are open 24 hours. The atmosphere is a bit dated, I wish it was a bit more updated and nicer so I'd come back here more.

It was so tasty. Looking forward to coming back with my friends. Prices are decent for the quality.

really really good food but the guy made us super uncomfortable, he pressured us to buy more things like pancakes? And stared the entire time we ate. I walked to the bathroom and he literally stared at my walk to and from. it felt really awkward like he didn t want us there?? it wasn t even close to closing time or anything.. It s like we walked into his house and asked for food and he didn t know how to ask us to leave. Also the menu was wrong, they had a lot of things on there they didn t actually have.

Unless you re drunk, this isn t the place for you, food is mediocre to awful at times. If your drunk it s the best food ever.

Typical NYC diner, no frills, nothing special, hits the diner spot.

They didn't deliver half my order and refused to refund it or deliver the rest of it. The order was inedible without half of it being delivered. NEVER order from here. EVER. They will just steal your money.

odessa is a great place to go to eat its a block from my house I go there all the time you must go great food.

I saw a rat scamper across the floor one night after visiting a friend downtown. It was not a big deal to these people. They told me to calm down and rushed me out. Horrible!

The most classic diner experience you can get. Almost never any wait.

24 hour diner. Enough said. If ur starving at midnight it great fast good Polish and regular diner fare. Nice staff. Fast service.

The pierogies are really good. It's open late, and it's usually very low key at night. It's a classic diner, great for getting a meal after a night in the LES. Nothing fancy, but that's part if the charm.

The service was great and the people were friendly. To top it off the food was amazing!

Used to come earlier here years ago, always good food

Met a friend at this Ukrainian diner and was really happy about his recommendation. I had the Ukrainian Combination which included a potato pancake, stuffed cabbage roll and a nice sausage. Definitely meal worth coming back for again!

Food is so so eat breakfast only and whatever you do skip the packaged chicken soup. Uhg

Great local spot. Alphabet City staple since the mid 90s. Friendly lady at the counter greets customers who know each other by name. Vintage NYC vibe for sure. And of course, the food is that classic diner flavor.

Old fashioned type of diner, with diner food. I personally like it, if you like diners you will too. Prices are pretty good too.

Odessa has been around for as long as I can remember. I love that, especially in Alphabet City and across from Tompkins Square Park where everything seems to be changing/being torn down/priced too high, to this modest diner still stands.

Chicken Soup.... not a piece of carrot, onion or celery.Not. Spice to be seen or tasted. Boiled chicken, canned broth and spaghetti. Tastes like dish water

Crazy amount of food, more "comfort" than impressive. Hit/miss service but good enough. We ordered Eastern European not American. Extra star for the hours and location.

Its a shame because I have been going there for yrs, love the polish food and the female waitresses. Unfortunately the male staff and management have always been rude and nasty to the old school locals. If I cannot sit in the right section I'll leave.

This place is such a throwback!! Go there now, before this icon of Old New York disappears. And order the blintzes. Amazing. Good coffee too.

Not the fanciest of Greek food - it's kind of more like a Greek diner. But it's open and dependable. Nice place for a late night drink and nosh.

Great east village diner. Delicious, fluffy pancakes, yummy pierogi's and chicken noodle soup that cures all colds.

Love it here my family and I go all the time. Cost is great and food is awesome
