Saw the artist LP here in the big room. Loved it! Easy better than a bigger venue. And pay in advance for parking if you want super close. If it's warm outside it doesn't really matter...or take a rideshare service.

I thought long and hard about my opinion of the Observatory and I have come up with this. It is a great venue with a beautiful outdoor area and a good bar selection that is a crazy high mark up and simple nearby parking for $10. The problem is the militarized security, like for real airport security seems more lax than the security at this place, it is beyond invasive. I usually skip shows here just so I can avoid being man handled by the aggressive old bouncer. If there is a band you really want to see and they will only be at the Observatory, don't pass it up and go. If you could watch it anywhere else you really should.
Everything was great except for the air conditioning was off and it was miserable inside. We were told the lead singer requested for it to be off. Never mind all the people who paid to see this band. Not only were they on late, the made us miserably hot too! Not sure I would go back to see Tiger Army again.
I have nothing against any of the bands I seen at the Observatory. My biggest complaints about this venue is the fact that they run 2 different shows on the same night. If I pay $20 for a ticket to a show, I expect to see and hear that band. I don't want to hear some electronic music show with very loud music drown out the band I'm there to see. They also charge an extra dollar for all tickets sold through their box office even if you pay with cash and if you use a debit or credit card, it's an extra 2 or 3 dollars. They also use TicketWeb to sell tickets online which has extremely high service charges. You would think a venue would want people to come and see shows. Not nickle and dime them on top of the price of the tickets. Being one of the last live music venues in Orange County that isn't part of the House of Blues chain, you would think that they would want to make this venue a place bands want to play as well as a place people would go to see a good show.
Nice venue can get crowded inside from time to time depending on the artist performing. The downside to this location is parking having to park nearly 2 blocks away from the venue in different parking lots for $10 dollars is rather disappointing especially on rainy nights. Although I would reccomend this location.
Books good shows. But wow is this a well-organized system to fleece customers. You will pay for a ticket, then get charged 50% extra in online service fees (I was charged $12.50 for each $24 ticket), then get charged $10 to park yourself 1/4 mile from the venue in a nearby office park (since this is Orange county, there is no on street parking and public transit is crap-- but wow, this is the charge most places have for VALET parking), and then get charged 3-400% markups on drinks at the bar (as in, $9 for a tall can of Pabst, and all other drinks well over $10). Also your show is likely to be packed solid, maybe overbooked.
This place does it right. The size of the venue makes all performances intimate. If anyone you love is ever playing in the Constellation Room, it is a MUST SEE experience, but the main room is awesome for the bigger acts that come through. Lots of locations to grab drinks so you're never waiting around to grab a beer while missing part of the artist's set. This is probably my favorite place to see a concert in SoCal.
Great place to see shows! The stadium standing room helps everyone see the show's without worrying about people in front. Well worth the money to see your favorite bands in a very quaint and friendly atmosphere. Give it a try and tell me that I am wrong.
I only go to see REAL rock-N-roll bands, and the Punk legends I grew up with. Not a GREAT gig, unless U are playing it,and like always,Overpriced drinks, and thuggish bouncers are eyeing up kids to toss....It good for the most-part. Sound is Usually pretty damn good though....
Big place. Stadium 5 multi level downstairs with a few booth seats(mostly standing) , Upstairs balcony with seating, full bar, lots of security, and decent amount of parking. $7 beers. No re-entry. Liked it, didnt love it.
The venue has two stages, and the standing room at the main stage is on levels which makes viewing the stage easy. The Constellation Room is very small which make for a more intimate performance.
We to the concert on 4/20 I didn't like the venue set up, what's the point of having two stages right next to each other. It was really small & the food wasn't great. Overall the concert was good.
The sound isn't good. Everything is over priced. My pat down felt like a slow rapey rub down. They shut down their own parking lot to screw everyone out of 10 bucks. I parked down the street to save 10 bucks. These F u c k s actually have like 30 scouts looking for people not parking. They tow your ass 9 miles away to to and mo.... then you end up paying 350 bucks. I'm sure there is some kick back going on between cops and everyone. Anyways totally ruined my night. I won't ever go to this venue ever again. What the he'll happend to going to a small venue and having a good time. This isn't the Rose Bowl super show...I don't need to pay for parking. Look out for the Santa Ana Mafia......Scam City
I love coming here for the shows but a couple times I had to call the box office I could not reach anyone! I even left a message for someone to call me back and I never heard back from ANYONE. I almost stopped going there because of this. I have also had issues with the people they use for parking they are usually rude or have no idea what is going on.
Great, great place to see a concert. Not a gigantic place which is a huge plus. Good sound. They get a lot of awesome performers. We saw The Breeders, X, Mudcrutch, and Washed Out there - all great shows! They have an excellent and helpful staff. Super easy to get in and find a spot with a good view. All this and a designated area for accessible seating too (though, the view can get obscured by people standing in front of you).
i used to love the observatory but I hadn't come in over a year. beware of coming to a late show that is sold out because it's going to be very packed. they don't let you stand in between the levels of the standing GA or in the aisles. i wish they'd change that, i just suggest you arrive early. and is it just me or did the price of beer go up here?
I love going to this Venue! Ticket prices are super reasonable and they don't oversell which is really nice. The GA area is nicely tiered so short people are able to see also. This is probably favorite place to see shows in OC.
This place has a lot going on and grown a lot since the old Galaxy. Saw a band there, Electric Six, in one of the venues, smaller and intimate. Had a blast. There seemed to be a hip hop show going at the same time but didnt take anything from the rock and roll experience
We love The Observatory! Great location for a music venue and they have fantastic music artists and bands that jam their! Good prices and it s attached to a bar, which is very convenient for fantastic time !
1st time seeing a show at the Observatory Santa Ana. Upgraded to VIP w/ Nolan and had the best hostess- Amanda! 1 star off for poor maintenance, hazardous table tops perched precariously half on/half off the raised flooring of each booth. Our neighbor's had their's removed completely while we pulled ours as close to us as possible. I danced for the most part but when seated I couldn't see the stage, my seat was deflated w/black tape over the damage. Overall I liked the intimate setting, each artist's act was unique and I would go back again for the right artist, minus the $500+ VIP package however.
