Fun outing. It's just the right size, you can see a lot of animals in a short span. The new air tram is awesome. The Bay views are breathtaking.

Good place to take your kids. Gandola ride and the new animal enclosures has made this better than the sf zoo.

I was disappointed it was crowed and most of the exhibits were quiet.The primates xid show up towards the pm feeding The otters were active and the snakes and lizards did what they do. Up side it was very clean pleasant staff prices reasonable.

This zoo is special, and has its own unique style. With its two sky rides, and different animals, this place is very good for a family to just walk around. You could spend 5 hours there, and not even realize it. The food on the mountain is very good, but the only problem is that there is not enough tables.

absolutly enjoyed this zoo. it felt more like you are on a hike when you went around the zoo. Also the cable car was great and the restaurant on the top.

Fun place, we were there for about 3 hours and got to see a bit of different things! Not as big as other zoos but fun non the less!

A great place to take the kids to see a wide variety of animals. This zoo has done a lot over the years to greatly increase the size of the animal enclosures. You'll see African elephants, tigers, meerkats, zebras, lions, giraffes, camels, bison, a wide variety of birds, sun bears, baboons, monkeys, etc. Included in the zoo is a children's zoo featuring repitles (including alligators), amphibians, various bugs & insects, fruit bats, lemurs, and more. A separate train ride just outside the zoo gates will take you through an Outback with some Australian animals wander about.

Great place to visit. The upper area is great and bears are so beautiful!

Nice zoo. You have to pay extra for the train ride that goes nowhere, though. Skip that part - the rest of the zoo is pretty nice.

Fun, safe place to explore all types of animals. It never gets boring. We have a season pass which is a great value for a family

The new area is fantastic for kids and adults alike. The scenic gondola sky ride viewed the bison below and Bay behind us. On a sunny day we enjoyed the animals and will return

The Oakland Zoo is a beautiful zoo, and riding the gondola to see rest of the park (California Trail ) and the views is a must! It's nice to see a lot of the animals in large areas and they all appear to be very happy. It's a great place for kids and families. We packed a lunch and had a little picnic while being there, highly recommended over waiting in line for lunch. Parking can be a bit chaotic, so I would recommend going during the time they first open, or a few hours later when people start leaving. We went on a cold day, so we weren't able to see the bears but maybe next time!

Our family LOVES it here. We bought our daughter a season pass for her birthday and we use it often. Lots of walking. They have a new Gondola with new animals. My daughter's favorite to do before we leave is ride all the rides in the Family Fun area. Wish those were part of the membership. Overall a great place to spend the day with the family.

Took the family out and spent the whole day out there. Food is a bit pricey but loved the experience overall!

This was my first time here and it was very nice. Definitely a hike when walking around so bring your water bottle!

I have gone to the Oakland Zoo my whole life and now I bring my children there it is a wonderful place to teach our children about Animals and different places.they have done such a great job with the upgrades they have done.

Nice zoo to walk around with children.
Walk from overflow parking (at bottom of hill) is long with no signs. Suggest some signs or maps to guide guests which way the zoo is

Fantastic zoo. Loads to see and do.
The animals all look well cared for. The enclosures and the zoo in general look in excellent condition.
Very reasonable pricing at $24.

Smaller zoo so nice to explore for a few hours. Good for kids. Enjoyed the gondola ride to the cafe and animal exhibits at the top of the hill. Kids liked the little amusement park rides next to the main entrance.

A wonderful zoo, you should come eariler to get a closer parking lot, and more active animals. Gondola, train, grizzly bear.

Oakland zoo is an unforgettable place - we had a great time.

Animal enclosures were spacious. Sometimes it becomes difficult to spot the animals, but that's part of the fun!!

A Place where my grandparents visited while they were dating, and subsequent alternative to Fairyland, the Oakland zoo has held up well after, nearly a century of operation, and adapted with the times, and practices of some much bigger zoos in the United States.
One of our favorites was the Chimp there, (At least I think it was a chimp, hey what do you want, I was like, 5) who would mimic us kids and sometimes tag us with a piece of candy or a nutshell.
This is Oakland History. AND somehow still unknown to many younger East Bay residents. Change that! Go and visit!

Excellent alternative to SF zoo. Much bigger than few years back. Has excellent Vista point on top of the newly opened area. Gondola is great.

Very fun and there adding more make sure to donate and Jon is wrong they chimps are in a gated area not a glass

I love the zoo , everything is so cute and I love the train ride , zoo lights during Christmas time , the staff seems like they take great care of the animals !

The Oakland Zoo Lights attraction was great only was $10 a person to get in. Great experience for kids

Great place to spend the weekend, there is a new part of the zoo with new animals, however we were not able to visit that part, because the admission was only with membership.

Variety of activities like train ride, gondola ride, other small rides along with general zoo.

This is a great place to visit with kids. Small enough to cover all of it in one day and yet big enough for a full day of entertainment. They have a brand new skyride, with a cafe at the top that should open this summer. I just wish that the rides outside didn't exist, they are super old and super expensive in addition to the park entry.

Is a great place for go with the family and getting on the cable car is nice because you watch some animals from above

Amazing zoo. Great to spend the day with your loved ones, especially little ones. The new CA trail addition is a wonderful addition to an already adventurous zoo. There is plenty of parking, quick lines, a large selection of animals, and good food.

Had a nice experience at this zoo and I will definitely visit again.

This place is massive. If you like to hike around watching animals along the way, this is for you. If you like riding a Gondola, they have it here. Except on windy days. So check your weather first before anything else. It was just an ok experience for me.

This was my first and only zoo visited in USA, so I can't compare it with other zoo in USA but anyway, I enjoyed my visit there and also employees was very polite and kind. This zoo is pretty big compare it with zoo in Czechia.
There is a condola at no cost which can ride you up to California trail where you can buy some refreshments and look at some wild animals if you will have a luck.

We took our 2 year old daughter to see the zoo lights and we all had a blast. She especially liked the falling bubbles. Thanks Oakland Zoo

Very bad zOo.. waste of time and money.. do not recommend.. you start walking around and it's over before you know it.. the train ride to the Australian exhibit is a joke.. there are only maybe a few exhibits worthwhile.. staff was friendly.. should have gone to San Francisco zOo instead.. stay away

Great family zoo. Lots of outdoor animal sections with great rescue animals including Grizzly Bears. Gondola section a must see. Great views of the Bay.

This was fantastic! Free parking was an unexpected surprise. We had a blast of a FUN workout, as we strolled through the lighted Zoo. There was something for everyone's interests.
The light show was fun to watch as the lights changed and seemed to dance with the Christmas music. The Christmas song choices were just as diverse as the attractions throughout the Zoo.
I do recommend this holiday Zoo Lights show for your Christmas, to do list! And, also...
Just remember to remove your plastic lids on your soft drinks/coffee cups before entering. Their not allowed.

Love the Oakland Zoo. I have worked many catering events there. Grounds are well kept. Staff is friendly. Animals are well cared for. Not as nice as SD Zoo, way nicer than SF Zoo.

Its no san diego zoo...... but very nice little getaway. * BRING SUNSCREEN*

Nice zoo to take the family too. Kids really enjoyed seeing the animals then getting to go on the rides afterwards. Be prepared for a leg workout, cause the zoo has a lot of hills to walk up and down.

Very spacious zoo. Unlike San Francisco Zoo, there is an elephant. As a proof of admission / purchase, have your arms press stamps. There are abundant commentary, there is devise such as a memo etc from a keeper.

The zoo is always a good time for the kids. My son loves the new area and the ride up. Good times.

Very nice place for the kids to enjoy. Even we captured some beautiful moments. Very well organised and they take really good care of all the animals. The Grizzlies gave quite an entertaining show. Otters are always a treat to watch. PLEASE CARRY SOME QUARTERS TO GET A BETTER EXPERIENCE

This is a Great Zoo. They have a more "open" animal enclosures. There is also benches in the shade in a lot of areas , you can sit and really observe the animals. I love watching family Dynamics of the giraffes ! Food was good in the main restraunt at top of gondola ride . Gondola ride is free and worth the ride for the fantastic views of the SF Bay Area !!
