Love this place, one for its yummy pizzas, two for it's decor, three because it's in the lovely Los Gatos downtown. The inside is warm and cozy and outside seating is charming. They make good Neapolitan style like pizzas. We love the margherita. If you are hungry, easily one person can eat one whole. They have good beers as well. I have been here two times and the first time the waiter messed up our order, have is a pasta with meat when we specifically asked for a vegetarian one and requested to make it without the meat to which they agreed. When the dish was served they also served it saying it was without meat as requested. But it ended up having all the meat in there. When we showed it to them they brought us another one without seeming apologetic about the error. We forgave that one time thinking it's a one off. But they are super crowded, especially in weekends, and totally probable to miss details on the order so be careful and double check if you ordered something altering one on the menu. I'm talking off a star because of missing the attention to detail. Otherwise, we like this place for the pizzas.
Very fresh ingredients. Very friendly server. The 5 Boroughs pizza was delicious!
Started with a pleasant tasting draft beer and as an afterthought ordered the potato chips. All I can say is start bagging them. They were out of this world. Not some salt and grease laden chip but a crisp, delicate potato flavored sliver of joy.
Next up was the shaved brussel sprout salad. Who'd of thunk! Simple and delicious. I'll be trying to recreate this at home soon. Nuff said.
Finally we can get to the pizza. Get a good look at the oven. Its a work of art to behold. And the stuff coming out of it will disappear quickly so get a good look at that too. We had a Scotty 2 Hotty. Just enough ingredients that allows you to enjoy the subtleties of each all on top of a really good crust. Plenty of char and bubbly edge of dough to cleanse the palate and get ready for the next slice.
Just go!
Been here many times, always liked their food and service and gave them good ratings. I will stick with one star until they find a way to make their dining experience much less procedural and "militarily" enforced. I understand the imposed restrictions from Covid measures, but clearly some manage to deal with it much better than others, and with more applied common sense. Those will be where I will spend my money when I go out.
I live nearby and walk my dog past this spot every night. I decided to stop in for a drink with my wife ended up staying for a few of them. We also split a pretzel and a margarita pizza. Both food items were good. Service was great and the bartender and staff were super friendly. They have a pretty good selection of whiskey, and a good sized pour. There is a fair amount of seating, maybe a dozen or so tables inside. There is additional outside seating and they will turn on a heater for you. There is also some seating at a small bar if you're alone or just there for a few drinks. I definitely recommend checking them out.
Always the worst service. The staff is so rude, they cant take the time to answer a simple question. I asked to omit the honey on one of the pizzas and the attitude I received about changing one of the "signature" pizzas was incredible. The pizza came with honey so I politely pointed that out and again with the attitude. I keep giving these guys the benefit of the doubt but this was the last time. Save your money for places that appreciated your business like North just down the street.
I have to say that this was by far my worst dining experience since moving to the Bay area in 2015. My girlfriend and I regrettably decided to give this place a try after a wonderful classical concert. We ordered cocktails, which were about as enjoyable as a bottle of Robitussin. While waiting for our server to return, we couldn't help but notice that the folks sitting next to us had been waiting for their pizza for a very long time. This was already a red flag.
We order our appetizers and main courses. I try to order the gnocchi, which they ran out of. No big deal. I decide to order a skirt steak instead. Our appetizers arrive in about 15-20 minutes, and are actually quite tasty. My girlfriend's main dish arrives, but mine is nowhere to be seen. After 35 minutes of waiting, the server comes back. "Oh! Are you still waiting on your steak?" 10 minutes later, another server comes by to inform me that they ran out of skirt steak - something they could have told us 45 minutes earlier to avoid wasting our time.
The new server then offers us a free pizza, which I didn't want - especially since the table next to us waited around 35 minutes just to get theirs. They offered a gift card, which I thought was a pretty ridiculous gesture as this point considering that the service was so awful. What they *should* have done is comped a significant portion of the meal.
Needless to say, we will never return to Oak & Rye. I'm not usually the kind of person to leave a negative review, but this experience was truly awful.
One of my favorite places in downtown Los Gatos where you can grab a good cocktail along with very tasty thin crust pizza. They also have a very nice outdoor patio seating which can get booked very fast during weekend nights. The servings are quite small almost like Tapas Style but are meant to be shared. Bring a date or come with a group you'll have a good time.
This is a great date spot--good atmosphere, good food, and a great drink menu. They have great selections of both beer and wine.
Wonderful service. The food is top notch, all gourmet stuff, and the pizza is real! What a cool place inside. Everything in there is interesting and cool to look at. Check out the upstairs bathroom!
Real ingredients but less than mediocre pizza. Pricey.
Amazing pizza! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu though. Cool decor. Tiny. Definitely make reservations during dinner.
A very "meh" restaurant. Wait time was short, even though there were a lot of people. The lemonade I had was not sour; they had the right combo of lemon juice and sugar. The pizza, however, was not as great. It's crust was on the thin side, and one side was quite burnt. The pizza, which was the Margarita, was very plain and ordinary. It's understandable that temperature control with a wood-fired oven is difficult, but the execution could have been better so that my pizza was not burnt.
Pizza are unique and delicious. Scottie 2 hottie is the go to. Atmosphere is great.
Love this restaurant, the pizza are amazing . Ambience is fun but alittle loud
Ive only been here once for brunch but my experience was great. The food is delicious and they have a nice exotic drink menu. Must try if you are in the area. The staff is friendly and service is good.
Great atmosphere with phenomenal pizza, great staff, and knowledgeable bartenders
Great place for a date night. Try the oven roasted pizzas.
I've come to this place a couple of times on separate visits to Los Gatos, and I'm a big fan. The place is super vibrant, which already suggests they're doing something right. And they are. The cocktails are delicious. The pizza I had was simply beautiful - thin crust, perfectly cooked in the wood-fired oven, great ingredients. A real joy. Even their arugula salad was tasty and exciting, with strawberries, pistachios and a nice dressing. Service was friendly too.
Love love love this place!! Super nice and friendly staff, served in a timely manner, wonderful food, great atmosphere! Took my husband there for brunch, his first time there, and he loved it!
This is good pizza, not a chain. They really do good work and have other food items than pizza. Fried chicken on brunch menu is really good. Pizza crust is East coast thin, other ingredients are top notch. Full bar with very good service. No reservations, you may have to wait during prime time. Try off hours if you don't want to wait. Highly recommended.
In the top five Bay Area restaurants IMHO. Menu is inexpensive relative to the food quality - fantastic food at casual prices. The entire menu is incredible. Pizzas are fantastic. Bar is getting more beers all the time. This is the only LG restaurant I am actively trying to foist on people...right now, it is the best casual restaurant in the South Bay. GO.
I almost never do a negative review. Look me up and you'll see. To be fair didn't eat there because I left. It was close to 7pm and over 7 open tables and they were insisting on sitting us at a tiny cramped table because we were just two. They have communal tables, four seaters, and tiny tables for two small people. If this works for you then great. If not go elsewhere like me.
The pizzas are great, but the menu offering is very limited. I don't think they take reservations.
Came here by chance after the wait was too long at another place and so glad we did. Food was delicious, service was friendly, and ambiance was great! Also learned why not all beer is vegan!
We came in on a Friday night and were told of an hour wait. We were given the option to sit at the bar and thank goodness we did! The bar staff were fantastic -- very friendly and gave us really good recommendations.
We ordered the Arancinci appetizer, split a salad, and split a truffle oil pizza. Everything came out quickly and tasted great!
Five stars all around -- food, service, and drinks!
High quality food, nice patio and great pizza. The waiting staff is very competent and professional. On the weekends it gets a little loud though.
H
Pretty good pizza, we enjoyed the smoked bacon one with arugula. Chicken wings were tasty too. Service was excellent. A lovely place to have dinner on a weekday, not too crowded. Will come back again for the yum yum pizza!
Great pizza, with a variety of toppings. Nice wine selection.
Delicious food and cocktails, featuring unique recipes in both categories. I d recommend sitting outside in the patio, it s very quaint; though depending on the amount of patrons, you may be asked to share a communal table.
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite pizza place in the area. Love the pizza here. The crust is perfectly chewy, and crispily charred at the same time and the toppings bring perfect balance of flavors to their signature pizzas, especially the Commissioner Gordon. Their sides are nothing to balk at either, especially the broccolini. Throw in a nice selection of whiskies, and craft cocktails and beers and I can't ask for much more from a pizza joint.
Really good creative pizzas and bar that serves craft cocktails.
Me and my girlfriend, ever since we move dup to the bay have begun a little ritual regarding trying a new pizza spot every Friday to wrap-up our week.
We have a good running list, the top consisting of Vesta and Public House Pizzeria. We thought those were pretty good until we came here
We got some cocktails which were delicious, and then decided on Scotty 2 Hotty as our pie. We are super into Honey on pizza these days so it was an easy choice.
We even got a second pizza instead of dessert, it was that good
Great brunch place. Tried the eggs Benedict which was great
Understandably during Covid, restaurants have to function differently.. but they are using this as an excuse to force a mandatory 18% gratuity- and offer zero service- even making you clean your table before you leave. You are never checked on by a waiter, never asked if you need anything else. It s like ordering a pizza to go- and paying 18% just because.
The hosts were extremely unwelcoming and not friendly- I almost felt like my presence was an inconvenience. I don t ever leave ratings but this evening really bothered me and I won t be returning.
Fantastic pizza, great drinks, great service, and dog friendly
Great spot for craft pizzas and cheap cocktails! Chill atmosphere with friendly staff. It was busy on a Wednesday so this place is always popping.
Wines are insanely over priced. $12.50 Bordeaux for $70.
Restaurant is very loud. If you order the vegetable apps prepare for them to be dripping with oil. The mushrooms were extremely tough and over salted, also dripping with oil. Hard pass on this place.
Too much salt, bad service, very average food. Not worth the money, at all.
We ve been dining at Oak & Rye for the last 3 or 4 years and it s one of our favorite spots in Los Gatos. Only until yesterday, when I couldn t explain the very unprofessional behavior of the so called manager . We ordered the NY steak along with couple other items. The steak came with corn-bacon succotash which was listed on the menu, but I honestly didn t pay attention to that. I kindly asked the waitress to substitute that with fries, said she can t, so I asked just Re-plate it without the succotash. Manager came out and spoke to us assertively infringe if the neighboring guests ( you would know what I mean if you dined their outside): clearly the menu states it has succotash, slammed the menu again on the table and asked me to make sure I m OK with the chicken ingredients before he sends it to the kitchen as if I don t know how to read a menu. He really lacked the class for a manager with regulars; restaurant hospitality is not scolding your guests if they asked for a change or slam a menu in their face on a shared table with other guests. Totally uncalled for. He has to remind himself that people are paying for the service and not getting anything for free. Disappointing and arrogant!!
Visited on Halloween. Delicious food, but I would suggest this more for adults than for families because of the cost to portion size. Definitely would call this a date night or group of friends restaurant. We went on Halloween Eve so it was moderately busy but the food took a reasonable amount of time. A cheese pizza with pepperoni added fed two adults comfortably. Nice beer selection. As my boyfriend left, he mentioned he'd much rather come here without the kids. Maybe lunch with coworkers if it's open lunch. They sell beer.
Great food and service, aside from the surly bartender. Really nice outdoor seating.
A seats great food and drinks. It does get a little noisy, but the food more than makes up for it
Im at a loss for words. This place should only serve pizza and beer. We ordered martinis which were terrible, extremely small and way over priced with old olives. The entrees, flank steak looked like left over scraps from someone else's dinner with absolutely no sides for $29 and the half chicken looked like it came from Safeway up the street on a bed of hard kale for $24. They are serving expensive wine which makes no sense at all. Stick with being a pizza joint because that's basically what it is. We left hungry and dissatisfied after spending $200. Ridiculous.
Great food, friendly staff, changing menu keeps things interesting. Great beer and cocktail selection as well.
Great food! Good service and atmosphere. Good cocktails too.
Pizza's are great albeit a little overpriced. Never had a bad meal here.
Wonderful, creative wood fired pizzas in downtown Los Gatos. Great outdoor seating. Tasty!
The worst service ever. We like to support our local businesses and we frequent most restaurants in Los Gatos. I haven t gone to this place in a while because of the service issue but decided to give it another shot on Thursday The Hostess is so incredibly rude.
this place, ex american comfort food restaurant james randall, good 303 n santa cruz ave. is next level pizza, delicious hand crafted libations and always some delicious beer on tap. cant fo wrong with the 5 Burroughs pizza and brussel sprouts shaved salad
They charge an added 18% tip for all orders - including pickup. Really bizarre to add on a ~20% tip when you aren't even being served. If they want to raise prices, then just do that. Much less irritating.
Great service, excellent pizza and cocktails. We went with our 3 yr old, and everyone had a good time. The food was stellar - and is priced accordingly. We will be back.
The best pizza in the bay area. Try coach goni and Jack burton
This place is what Los Gatos was missing. Amazing food and drink selection along with superb service. An absolute must stop if your going through LG. You have to try the Coach Goni.
We love this place. Great pizzas with very interesting topping combinations that make it different and a great drinks menu with wide variety in non typical Italian wines.
Came her with a friend who is local and recommended it. It was very nice, we sat outsot and had heat lamps. The food was so good, we had an app and two pizzas and cocktails. We had a great time, well priced too. We had a great time, good service.
The margherita pizza was good but between the salads we tried and other items I was not impressed. Service is good and quick
Really relaxed yet classy atmosphere with amazing food and great service. They have an ample selection of beer, sours and wine. We got some sours, the cheese plate and the Scottie 2 Hottie pizza and it was seriously phenomenal. The combination of flavors they used balanced so well you felt like you were having a really fancy food experience even though it's just a cheese and pizza. A new local favorite :).
They have the most fabulous pizzas and all the small plates have been delicious thus far. It's a must try restaurant.
A first-class restaurant: delicious well-prepared food from a simple menu, large selection of wines, desserts to top off, all with very quick and efficient and very friendly service, even in the middle of the most busy hour. The only down-side are some of the customers; after a few drinks some of them get very loud. This is in an old building, so acoustics can be painful. You get what you pay for. I like the decor too.
This is definitely a hipster restaurant but it is really good. The pizza are unique but very flavorful and the salad we had was awesome. Basically everything was great.
Rude manager!
We go to this place at least once a month. There's always a long wait and don't take reservations. This time it was 45 mins quoted time (also sent by text). When we came back in 45 mins they said it will take another 20.
I pointed out we don't mind sitting on two adjacent tables that were free. They said it will take a few mins to set. A few mins later they sat another family on one of those tables!
When I asked what just happened??? the manager asked me to step out, he then raised his voice and told me I need to relax. I replied he needs to relax (it seemed like he had a long day.. all sweaty) so he told me he does not want to serve me.
Will never go to this place again.
Great bit after the movie. Olives and gnocchi were excellent. My brother had a pizza also very good.
