Great for just walking around and enjoying history...
Great for just walking around and enjoying history or going to one of their Revolutionary War re-enactments. Always clean and well kept. Employees are kind and knowledge, this is a plus as well.

I went here for a school field trip and it was just really boring. The only part I actually enjoyed was when someone shot a musket and lunch...
The museum is lovely and informative, filled with memorabilia ranging from the revolutionary war all the way up to our most recent military engagements. Built on the historical site of a revolutionary cantonment, the premises also displays several buildings from the early days of the U.S.. Informational plaques dot the landscape providing snapshots of history while friendly and knowledgable staff perform re-enactments of different common tasks of the times.
The main building houses a gift shop, museum, and the Purple Heart archive, as well as a miniature theatre constantly showing a short video about the history, importance, and meaning of the Purple Heart, a prestigious medal awarded to service men and women injured or worse in the military. Well worth the time of the avid history buff or any individual interested in some of the finer workings of the United States and its military history.
A great museum to a very important part of military experience. A gem in its placement and the history is so important. Must see
This is the other museum at the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Park. This is worth seeing and the stories of the soldiers who received a purple heart are very moving. Makes you really appreciate the military and all that they have done for us!!
Very informative, the record of the sacrifice the service men and women was detailed and their deeds should be remembered.
Lots of Pokestops! Spent years closer to it and didn't realize how cool it was until recently. They have replica from the revolutionary war on grounds and if you go at the right time of year....WILD RASPBERRIES!
A beautiful and moving museum showing the history behind the Purple Heart medal as well as displaying artifacts from recipients. The main museum lets you browse its archive for known recipients and there is information on how to add additional veterans to the database. There are areas dedicated to each military branch. There is also a Revolutionary War encampment area that shows period housing and military artifacts including demonstrations from period actors. A must visit for any military family, veterans, and those interested in learning more about sacrifices have been made to keep freedom in place in the United States through selfless service and sacrifice.
I lost someone I loved in the Vietnam war, this became personal for me.
Excellent facility with an informed person at the desk. Excellent exhibits that highlight American heroes, and underscores the stupidity of our political leaders that sends our people abroad to die in far away hellholes for no discernable reasons.
Worth the visit. Great museum.
Also, visit the revolutionary war buildings on the left side adjoining the museum. You won't be disappointed.
A beautiful and moving tribute to wounded and fallen warriors. The museum is well designed, functional, and a great place to visit. In addition to stories of recipients, it also includes war memorabilia as well as a adjoined to museum containing American Revolutionary War artifacts .
A tribute to American soldiers that paid a very high price for this country
Lots to read see and learn. History of purple heart and cantonment of revolutionary war
This place is dedicated to the wounded/fallen American soldiers since basically its birth. The staff was great as well as knowledgeable and I was grateful to be allowed to walk in the presence of greatness.
Very moving and honoring to all purple heart recipients. I'm thankful my children had the opportunity to learn more about the sacrifices and bravery of those who serve.
my experience was awesome I'm a middle schooled that went their for a field trip from poughkeepsie it was great there but one of my summer school classmates had to ruin it because they stole a $9 neckless thank you for the tour everyone but sorry that the theft had to happen
This place is great and you should visit if you are in the area. The displays are great and the grounds are beautiful to walk around. One can learn a lot visiting here of the sacrifice others have made for our freedoms.
Wonderful. A don't miss. Angered by the youngster below who obviously had no clue where she was or what she was visiting. The Hall and its grounds are a gem. It's a shame more people don't know about it. More children should be made aware of the sacrifices my father and probably others in her family made so she could review the local pizzeria! History is not for all but hopefully more were reached. Hopefully more school groups get the privilege of visiting The Purple Heart Hall of Honor and it's grounds!
We brought our grandson. It's a great place. Lots of old artifacts. Cool buildings and some knowledgeable people dressed in period clothing
The team that hosted the July 4th celebrations we're amazing!! We relocated from Texas and to have our first Independence Day celebration with such great guides, could not have been more Wonderful. Truly remarkable experience all Americans must experience with their families. The expertise with the artillery and Marching is paired so well with charismatic guides, diving into a part of our history better than any story teller you've sat in front of. We will be back and with more family !
The kids had a great time. The staff is very knowledgeable and entrance fee is only $3.
great way to honor our heros. we took our kids.. it was a good way to give them an idea of the sacrifice these men and women make for our country.
2/19/14:
Great experience, but was only able to see 1/3 of the exhibit areas because of time. Staff was also friendly and knowledgeable.
Walked this wonderful tribute and added Jim's Uncle with documentation. So proyd.
A very nice memorial and museum explaining not only the history of the Purple Heart but also the thoughts and feelings of those that have received it. I think the saying "Available To All, Desired By None" perfectly sums up their feelings.
You owe it to every recipient to visit this amazing place. Highly recommended.
Beautiful museum. Movie was well done. Highly recommend. Worth the time to visit
Very much worth your time to stop. The grounds are well kept and staff is friendly.
