National ResearchCentre on Yak at Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh is doing research on Yak conservation and improvement of yak with the aim of making the institute a global leader in Yak Science and generating cost effective technologies for socio- economic upliftment of yak husbandry centric highlanders. Dirang is on the way towards Tawang from Bomdila. Visit picturesque Dirang Valley and this Yak research centre. When you visit Dirang, make time to visit tourist places around Dirang. They are Dirang Dzong, Hot Water Spring, Sangti Valley and Kalachakra Gompa. Good Luck.

The one and only Yak research centre in india. Inside the ICAR-YAK research centre, there is a display hall where one can see the products made from yak hair.The research centre has breeding farm at Nyikamadung. The farm has good number of Yaks. One can buy yak chese from the farm at very reasonable price( cash not accept, only card is accepted for payment.

LOCATION

LOCATION
At Present , the NRC has its headquarter (office and laboratories) at Dirang (1500m above msl) and experimental yak farm and semen processing laboratory at Nyukmadung (2700 m above msl) at a distance of 31km from Dirang. Both the campuses are located in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh.

MANDATE
Research in conservation and improvement of yak with the aim of making the institute a global leader in yak science and generating cost effective technologies for socio-economic upliftment of yak husbandry centric highlanders.

ORGANIZATION
The Director, NRC on Yak, exercises full authority for research strategy formulation and administration. Institute Management Committee (IMC), Research Advisory Committee (RAC), Institute Research Committee (IRC) and other functional committees constituted by ICAR-Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, provide advises to the Director for running the administration and research activity of the institute. A team of scientists, technical, administrative and supporting staff, assist the Director.
