I really enjoyed the nuggets of info on the plaques. The library is beautiful and full of history, both it's own and in it's books.

Was here for a networking event. Was a gorgeous setting and enjoyed how dramatic it was.
This was an incredible, amazing place. The beauty of this library is breathtaking. The librarians are extremely helpful and go out of their way to get you the information you seek. If you are a businessman or woman, this is the place for lists for products, prospects, and business listings. I am stunned that this is a free resource. Be sure to take a flash drive with you to download the lists and take them back. Go - even if you don t have a reason!
Great staff, knowledgeable and accommodations are excellent
Went to a wedding here. It was great. Both the ceremony and reception.
Open til 5?
Bankers library?
No wonder people don't read...coffee shops are open later!!
Closed on weekends???
Just close up shop and make it a hostel with library and cafe on main floors.
Excellent venue for events like weddings or Loud at the Library concerts
The James J. Hill Center is absolutely immaculate and full of resources for the general public and business owners alike. I have gone several times to their new networking event 1 Million Cups and have connected with potential clients and networking partners already. I have also worked with them on giving presentations to the general public on small business owner topics like SEO and Online Marketing. Their selection of books is also amazing and the building is breath taking. I highly recommend them if you are looking to use resources to grow your business or perhaps looking for a book!
I was impressed with the capabilities of the library and its staff. I'll definitely be back. They have many tools, including big data analytics software, available to help business owners develop market strategies at a very reasonable price.
Very large library with a lot of history to it. Most of the staff were very nice but there seemed to be a couple grumpy ones. There are so many books to choose from!
Absolutely beautiful interior, and open to the public. I will be doing some studying inside here at a later date.
A business library left by the founder of the Empire Builder. Staffed by professional research librarians.
THIS IS THE JAMES J. HILL CENTER
--- NOT THE SAINT PAUL PUBLIC LIBRARY ---
The James J. Hill Center is a treasure of downtown St. Paul. The facility features beautiful architecture, one of the reasons it makes a gorgeous wedding venue, and overlooks Rice Park. The staff serving the James J. Hill Reference Library has always been accommodating to both me and my business' needs. They offer help to entrepreneurial minded individuals with their plethora of business research materials while allowing anyone to use the calm and serene, "Great Reading Room," as a study. "The Hill," as it's affectionately referred to, also hosts workshops and seminars catered to businesses that are often free of charge. If you haven't checked out, "The Hill," do yourself a favor and plan a visit.
Very helpful staff. And good info for business owners
If you are start up business this wil be the place to go. There a lot of guides that can help you get started
For years I have explored the James J. Hill Center, or library as it was called previously. Always felt at home and while it used to be an uneventful place used often for wedding events on weekends, they have developed many useful programs to help anyone start or grow there business. 1 Million Cups, a nationwide program from the Kaufmann Foundation is excellent.
Someone asked me yesterday, "what is the point, now that we have the internet?". Well with over 25 databases, unavailable to individuals otherwise, you will find better information, more quickly. The librarians will help you answer any query. Don't have a computer? You can use one of theirs, and it's all free access to the public. Best kept secret in Saint Paul.
Beautiful meeting location and event space. I think my favorite part of the experience is the people there that genuinely want to help people grow their businesses. If you are looking to create a new business or need help growing, the staff is there with amazing business acumen.
Beautiful architecture, lots of business related information, and extremely helpful staff--and free coffee!
As an entrepreneur I've found the James J. Hill Center to be a great resource of knowledge! They have wonderful events - including 1 Million Cups which features local entrepreneurs in an open forum setting. Great resources, very helpful staff - if you own a small-mid size business I highly suggest you check them out!
Beautiful building, beautifully kept, amazing library and historical place. Unfortunately staff was presumptuous, discourteous, and unwelcoming.
