Understaffed and unsafe. Avoid if you value your health.
I spent a week in trauma unit after dislocating my ankle.all the staff were superb and do a great job
poor service, I've witnessed other patients get mistreated by the staff. While I was there they were not helping me in any way but instead telling me that I was a bad influence and would shout at me instead of dealing with the issues i would bring up to them. Very bad for people suffering from mental health issues as they would disregard you and shut you down completely this is very damaging for a young person to experience. They will do everything and anything they can to cover their backs, staff need to be better trained and taught how to respect! (specifically ward 1 and 2)
Will never understand negative reviews for FREE treatment. Be thankful for the NHS. I ve spent most of the last 18 months in hospital for myself and the last 7 years in and out with my diabetic daughter, the staff are always on point, the wait is irrelevant, you get seen in order of emergency not arrival time. The hospital has saved my life more than once and I will forever be grateful!
Son had an exam 2 months ago, and still nobody can tell me which department to deal with, and when I get through to anyone, they re on holiday. Disgraceful.
My 88 year old mother was admitted on 8th January with what we found out to be pneumonia due to the severity of her illness her stay lasted 2 and a half weeks .The hospital is a very different place from her last visit . She was treated in pristine surroundings , promptly , efficiently and above all with kindness and dignity. Every single person either she ,or we as relatives ,came into contact with, was pleasant and helpful and we were kept informed throughout her stay. In a time of constant criticism of our NHS, the quality , standard , and consistency of care my mother received at MRI has been outstanding.
My daughter has been in here for 5 days with chronic appendicitis, resulting eventually in an operation to remove her appendix. The staff were stretched but brilliant the hospital was clean. Very very impressed. Our NHS is a jewel we need to fight to save
I was been admitted this hospital from 28 sep2013
Till 20 October 2013 at accident and emergency ward. It was the kindest hospital ever and there is not enough words to describe how great it is !!! My personal experience in these days in accident and emergency ward was great and I would describe all the staff as Angels. God bless them all. Thx very much.
My lovely wife is in this place coz of slipped on stairs at home
Expect any one star reviews to be deleted obviously don't like the truth !!
I have to attend the hospital every few months, the staff are very friendly and helpful they will always help you the consultant is very professional and friendly I've known him for around ten years. The hospital is always clean and tidy when I've had to stay in the staff are always there for you, the food is ok better than you think the visiting times are very good to, overall its a lovely hospital with very friendly and helpful people. It's wheelchair accessible to.
I was referred to the Maxillofacial department as I had a submandibular abscess. From going to casualty, I had been seen by a doctor, x-rayed and had bloods taken within an hour and a half. I had a wait of about another hour for a bed, which was found for me on the vascular ward. This is a more modern part of the hospital, and very nicely equipped. The following morning I was sent for surgery. And spent another 2 nights on the ward.
Throughout my stay I was very well informed about what was happening and treated well by all the staff. The surgery went well and the Maxillofacial team checked up on me daily.
Outside of medical care, the catering staff provided nice meals, the roast beef dinner is good and I also recommend the shepherds pie. Hot drinks were also provided by the cheery staff. The ward was also spotlessly clean and kept that way during my stay.
On a separate note all the staff were very busy, and often they had to prioritise patients needs. This isn't the fault of the staff or even the hospital; it's symptomatic of an organisation that is underfunded and overstretched. This is political and if you have experience busy staff then perhaps it should influence how you vote.
However, it is a tribute to the professionalism of the staff at the hospital that they maintain the levels of care that they do.
So to summarise I arrived ill, and left feeling better. And I didn't have to worry about the cost of treatment. The NHS is still one of the wonders of the UK
Was induced here three times within the space of a month.
99% of the staff appeared caring and tried their best to help the patients. Obviously the NHS is understaffed but that is not this faculty's fault.
They ran detailed tests to make sure I was okay and the waiting time was extremely good in comparison to what my expectations were set for.
I was on Ward 10, the staff are outstanding. Thank you for all you do
Brilliant staff. Sorry state of the buildings. Car park is like paying for a new house
They take too long to see the patients and
the seem to spend more time at the desk than seeing people... A 3 hour wait for a minor injury ridiculous....
the a&e waiting area was disgusting split drinks on the floor ,blood on the wall skirting boards filthy it was also freezing in there as the doors wasn't closed they were wide open saw the triage nurse quite quick then waited ages to see a Dr
Got seen today in the pop up tent and did not wait to long. I would think that a tea caddy could pop round with beverages and cakes though, that would be a nice incentive for sitting in a dank tent. Nice staff all the same
Saturday afternoon at MRI walk in centre following a fall, yesterday evening, when I banged my head very hard. Not only is the waiting time 4+ hours but they treat you with a total lack of dignity . They ask for personal information including the reason for attending which may be very personal, your name address, phone number & etc, very loudly, over an amplifier system, in a public space. In addition to that the receptionist is deliberately unhelpful and has reduced a distressed young woman to tears. She also refused to give that young woman her name which she is not within her rights to do. The young woman's upset was distressing for everyone waiting to watch but she was too upset to make think about making a complaint. However, I insisted that she give me her name and shall be making a complaint although the receptionist was not unduly bothered so I don't expect anything will be done about her poor behaviour by her employers Manchester University Hospital Trust, which has been rated as poor in a national evaluation.
I have a pace maker & I have been coming to this hospital for around 20 years. Every member of staff, nurses, doctors, clinic staff etc. & importantly, the people behind the scenes ( that are just as vital to running this hospital) have given me the best care possible. I cannot thank them enough. I have recommended this hospital to family & friends who have also been happy with the care they received.
5 hour wait in the A&E and going. Absolutely unacceptable to wait this long in an emergency. Extremely disappointed and frustrated.
After an assault I have been bleeding a lot in the southern part of Manchester. After talking to the police officers, the ambulance was not even dispatched. Fortunately police took me to the hospital after about 40 min of the crime. The best help I got was actually from other patients who gave me tissues so I can cover my wounds and try to stop the bleeding.
After 2-3 hours of waiting, a nurse did an Xray check and I had to ask myself for stitches as they did not offer at first. When I asked if I can have a copy of the Xray images, they refused to give that to me.
There was also one time when I got terribly sick and needed emergency help. I had to wait 2 hours in the queue from 6am. The nurse took my details and said she cannot help me. Few months later I flew to my country and had the same strong pains in my stomach, and I did not have to wait in the queue at all, and they found a huge health problem my stomach has.
Good hospital staff are very helpful iv bin under Manchester royal for 20 yrs plus still can't find my way round lol
If you are under MRI renal team look up the word Sensitised meaning, (they won t tell you until it s too late) understand what it means for your future transplants, don t be afraid to question your Doctor. Every effort should be made to avoid becoming sensitised, or at least told the risk in becoming sensitised, In my experience the consultants cover for each other. If a mistake is made no one gets told it s just brushed under the carpet but the patient has to live/die with it.
Please read up about becoming sensitised I want you to have a better chance than I did.
If a doctor ever tells you to stop taking your Prograf (immunosuppressants) ask for a second opinion, never be scared to ask a doctor questions, or for a second opinion. And if you feel that something is still not right ask to record the conversation. This is our NHS and if something is not right WE need to speak up so it doesn t happen to others. Protecting our future.

Such sad news. Over 7,000 National Infirmary Assistance health hospitality to have die. What a pity. Sentiment and condolezzi. Antonio Jacqui Lucia. Happened to me about 2010.
Spent a week in here after an accident. I injured my ribs and collar bone. The staff on ward 3 were absolutely brilliant. Thank you very much ward 3
I went here via A and E and needed surgery. All of the care I received was excellent. It is a teaching hospital so I did have to serve as a prop for teaching a few students but it was not even remotely an issue.
Short version: The hospital is not safe, the treatment is lacking and people are not respected.
Long version: My Grandma has been to hospital several times over the last few months with a clear problem that Doctors will not solve. Inevitably, she will have to phone an ambulance for similar symptoms (heart problems, unable to breathe), and she will get a bed for a week. Then she will be sent home. Repeat ad infinitum. They do not view records/history, continue to focus on things that do not help and have been proven not to help, lie about scheduling appoitments with other departments, are generally rude and dismissive. My Gran was shouted at in the hospital by a doctor who says he doesn't want to be there all day. Even the nurses agreed a complaint was necessary.
This isn't a hotel. If they deal with patients thoroughly they wouldn't have to keep coming back with the same symptoms only for doctors to ignore them. If doctors did their job properly, even a little bit, things would be fine but they manage to fail even the lowest bar set. Negligent is the only description for it.
The hospital is also unsafe for patients, especially elderly and vulnerable. Drug dealers are allowed to freely roam the hospital as well as outside. There have been several thefts on the ward. These people have been incredibly threatening towards not just staff but patients also. One of them stole a kindle off of a 90 year old lady with no family to sell for drugs. My Grandmother's phone was stolen.
Security don't care. The nurses don't care. The hospital itself does not care about patient safety or wellbeing.
The Doctors certainly don't care, they are barely present and refuse to ever listen to the patient. Normally, I would argue this is the right course of action as they are the experts however they have been told time and time again about my Grandma's medical history/reactions to medication but due to their negligence it resulted in a worsened health for my Grandmother which almost resulted in death several times. Definite negligent behaviour.
The only reason I give this review 2 stars is that I don't tend to give credence to 1 star reviews and the nurses have been nice to my Grandma whilst she has been there.
Something is clearly very wrong with this hospital that this rude, negligent and dismissive behaviour from doctors as well as drug dealers threatening patients on the premises is allowed to thrive.
Go somewhere else, your safety and health are of no concern here.
Just got back from A&E . The treatment, care, compassion, patience and attitude of every single person we met was superb ! I feel I need to name and fame tonight's wonderful team , just in case any feedback can be given so a Huge Thank You to Maria in RAU, Nurse Catherine, HCA Ash, A&E doctors Alex and Lucie, Surgical Doctor Abdul and ED Chris who treated my husband superbly well, pulling out all the stops for his comfort and peace of mind which made me comfortable too. We were through in three hours including X Rays, treatment, procedure and oodles of tlc. Amazing People who went above and beyond . Thank You
There for me, my mother, & the birth of all 3 kids.
One day this will be the Nation's number 1 job provider.
Thank U.
x
Average treatment - brother was i this hospital some nurses were rude did not want to support any further even though he is not well and wanted to discharge him
I have had no complaints for my regular appointments. One problematic experience with A&E but I will let them off as we were seen and sorted in the end. Underfunding, shortage of staff, I cannot blame them.
SAVE THE NHS!
Unbelievable service. I have just waited 4,5 hours in the MRI with my partner who was not feeling well and had the pain in his chest just to find out that we could have been discharged and discussed the results with our gp instead of waiting this ridiculous time. Just to note, we called the ambulance which took roughly 2 hours to come, so in total, we just spent 6,5 hours on something that could have been avoided if we knew from the beginning that we didn't need to wait for the test results to be discussed with their doctor, but instead could go to gp who would access the same results. At 4:30am we are finally going home without any clue why my partner was having chest pain, waisted and completely disappointed in the services of this A&E place. Please, if you read this, think twice before going there.
Staff have Zero regard for patient welfare or care.
I bought my 8 year old son at the weekend after he had been sick for 3 days. He ended up sitting on the floor as was too weak to stand and all chairs were full. He was triaged by a nurse after 20 minutes and then we waited for another 3 hours to be seen by another nurse who told us it was probably viral and we should go home.
I took him to our GP the next day who immediately referred us to the hospital where he was kept in and treated with 2 separate antibiotics.
The strategy of staff at the walk in seems to be to make patients wait as long as possible then send them off so they don t consider coming back.
Came in for my operation checked in at 11 am didn't have operation until around 4 pm. I wasn't fed until 11pm that night. Night staff were negligent didn't replace the gauze on my nose so I spent the night bleeding all over myself after operation. The medical professional seemed more interested in the football than the patients needs. Shocking treatment I am appalled by the rudeness of the staff on night shift.
Absolute disgrace, all nurses did was walk around not treating anyone, eiether they can t do there job or don t want to, worst nhs facility ever, be better if going a witch doctor
Where I have a baby, the nurse service is super good, three meals, coffee, black tea.
All staff are lovely, they work so hard to provide the best care and as quickly as possible. Never able to sit down because they are always on their feet helping each person.
Cannot fault the care and attention I have received here. I am sincerely grateful.
Hi I went for my appointment at the hospital but I was running late I went to park in the Grafton street multistory car park it has no barriers on entry or exit i paid for my stay and got a receipt as proof of payment after two weeks I have received a parking ticket form PARKINGEYE saying I was parked in staff parking??? If this is staff parking then we the public should not be allowed into the structure and advised where we can park I was not the only person in that car park as it was quite full please be aware of where you can park as you will be fined for not knowing were you can park
I especially want to thank all the staff on Ward 8 who were very friendly, very organised and Have witnessed above and beyond care given to patients. I spenT the last 2 months of a three-month stay on that Ward. I could not be more Contented To Be there I cannot thank you all enough for a pleasant stay rather than unpleasant stay Allan Rowlands February to April 2019
Well not really sure where to start. From when I arrived the nurses that did understand what me and the other paitents said. I was given medication that wasn't documented and even scarier there was medication signed to say it was given to me that wasn't. I made a small complaint that the staff spent more time on there phone at night and eating chocolate wile there were buzzers going off people in pain or needing things.
When I brought this to the site managers attention (who was really nice and genuinely seemed shocked at the situation). Later that evening I relaised people were acting different towards me, wilst being given medication I was talking about the problems id had, the doctor replied " yeah we were told about all this in hand over, you will be at the bottom of the pile now".
Since these comments there never seems anyone around to give me pain killers and my other tablets were forgotten to be wrote down.
I feel like I've been isolated . To top it off I've managed to reocrd staff wile I was in the bathroom being sick saying " leave him too it I'm not helping him" then going on too comment about leaving me to wait and I can buzz as much as I want. It's horrible to be treated this way and now just getting horrible smiles and angry stairs.
I'm sure this is not all staff but I won't be coming back to this hospital.

I have been a transplant patient under the care of the Renal Unit in this hospital since 1987 and the care at the Renal Unit is excellent. They are very conscientious and thorough in their care, I would have given this hospital five stars but the level of care in general wards is not up to such a high standard. Last time I was in, one of the nurses gave me a medication that belonged to a patient that no longer was there (but his medication had been left in the locker that was used for mine); when I queried this and said that I was getting palpitations (I suspect it was some kind of adrenaline based medication), a "psychiatric consultant" woke me up at 3 am in the morning and basically said that I had imagined it and it was probably the worry of being in the hospital.
Dear sir /madam
i was admitted for treatment under Mr F Fath -ORDOUBADI treatment., a
great caring gentleman cardiologist. All theatre and ward staff excellent.
More funds should be provided. please give patients hot or warm eatable food or drinks.
thanks to all.syed i h shah
Gone in on a Saturday night around 8.30 Saturday night seen after around 30 minutes in a lot of pain. Can't fault the efficiency xrays diagnosis and out in around 3 hours. All the staff where so good friendly and kept informed the whole time.
Hardworking and friendly staff. Modern and state-of-the-art equipment. Facilities include a number of toilets, coffee shop, snacks, WHSmith, Marks & Spencers food store, multi faith prayer rooms, rest rooms for relatives, wheelchair hire abd more.
Renal Transplant unit Excellent very friendly staff and doctors.Urology very poor. I was admitted back in April 2017 and was put on transplant ward as i had a transplant back in September the staff at the transplant unit could'nt do enough for me they were excellent however i was in for 8 days straight with a very bad uti (VRE BUG) i was in for 8 days and not one urology doctor came to see me even though the Renal doctors kept on pestering them with emails and phone calls everyday. These UTI infections have been ongoing for quite a few years.Even though i have had a few tests the problem is still current. The doctor i went to see at Manchester Royal the other week wants to discharge me and put me on anti biotics which im not happy with as they have still not got to the root of the problem. I had to have a kidney transplant due to infection.I have now spoken to my consultant at Salford Royal (Hope) who is now looking in to it and i will be ref to Salford Royal Urology :-)
All the staff eg, doctors, nurses, surgeons and all other collegues are all friendly and caring and are willing to help as much as they can, even if they are busy they will help. Also it's really clean and tidy.
Polite friendly and helpful staff, with good amenities and parking
Tall really didn t feed a Down syndrome patient for 10 DAYS DISTUSGING
Excellent care pre and post operative cardiac care from everyone without exception to help my husband to potentially save his life, cannot fault the care recieved
My sister felt so discriminated by the nurse and so intimated, i was shocked to hear that. She fell off the chair in waiting room in A&E and nobody helped her to get back in chair for about 5 minutes... my sister was so ill and doctor and the nurse just was rude to her and they did not care that she is in such pain... i am so disgusted and actually hurt that when we get ill we hope for medical professionals to help us but instead we get discriminated .. we are so glad we dont belong to this hospital.. horrible horrible experience for my sister...
My son from Hull was on a stag night in manchester and was drugged and taken to various cash machines.
Eventually he was taken to this hospital - and I was impressed with the warmth and consideration of the medical team.
Every effort was given to give me a detailed account of his treatment.
Thanks to them - my son was able to come home the next day.
No words can say how much we appreciate the rapid response of the well trained people at this hospital.
Thank you all so much.
this a joke account I made a while back they delete negative reviews I'll keep it short this hospital is awful, understaffed and will ignore you if you're young go somewhere else please
I love it because they made my friend kieron feel better
My husband was admitted on the 23rd December by emergency ambulance with a heart attack. I found the staff friendly, professional and helpful. Our experience was excellent and I would like to express my gratitude to you all.
Had a heart procedure carried out and could not fault all the staff including theater staff full marks all round.
It s horrible. Overrun, short of staff therefore staff overworked and rude, parking costs a fortune, waiting times are disgraceful. Perfect example of what happens when the nhs falls apart.
This place doesn't even deserve 1 star in my eyes.
We went down to see somebody with my 1 year old Son the day after he had surgery as we wee instructed to go down on the phone with some issues. To start with the lady on reception was rude, the place was disgusting, there was urine all over the toilet floors and for the 4 hours we were there nobody had cleaned or even checked them, there was dirty tissues all over the floor, no toys or anything to keep the kids entertained in any way...................the list goes on.
What a dirty scummy Hospital this place really is.
I'm so glad he had his op at Wythenshaw and not this place.
It honestly felt like nobody gave a damn.
Never again !!
This is a 'teaching' hospital so expect to be throwing out annoying students. It is not a specialist hospital of any kind so don't expect expert care unless your have broken a bone.
Needs updating looks old fashioned like stepping back into the 1990's.
The entrance (out patients) where the cafe is.. Is disgusting and the toilets are grubby.
I face a doctor named Rose, one of the best doctors in the emergency room, and I wish her good luck
This is my Local A&E and to think that am going to be qualifying in few Months and possibly work here, I am ashamed for the service today
Awful car park that won't even accept a card payment. Wait times at the hospital are also a joke 45 minutes for a prescription and about 50 people waiting with 10 seats only.
Can not say a bad word about this hospital just needs more funding from the government
The medical/nursing staff and the catering services are extremely fantastic and superb!!! I would definitely recommend this hospital to my friends and family. FIVE STAR...
Urologist Mr Pearce and team along with ward based staff, excellent ,service from first to visit to clinic
suite C, preop, surgery and post op care.
Wonderful, friendly nurses on the A&E floor. Constantly checking in on my Grandmother. However some of the doctors' sensitivity leaves a lot to be desired. My Granddad who walks on crutches was told by a female doctor to get out of the room whilst she talked to my Grandma alone. Later on, when we got into a Ward, the same female doctor came and told us all to wait outside (my granddad included) to repeat what a previous doctor had just said, when we were all in the room.
Sophie should be ashamed of herself.
I will have a cesarean section when giving birth at this hospital. Is there a doctor I can contact for my consultation
The ambulance take my wife at 22.30 min at 23.00(almost) will been there and we wait until 1.35 and nobody ask anything about her situation only waiting for a doctor!! Is really wrong ,very bad.....
Slow service took 9 hours still nothing different nurses came in and out constantly and asking the same questions my family member is still in the hospital in pain, terrible service. Extremely disappointed not professional at all!
Disgusting dirty hospital, I was horrified when I sat in A&E to think this is a hospital in the 21st century. It smelt so bad, all the toilets had urine all over the floors and were not cleaned for hours. Staff have a really bad attitude and talk to you so rude when you ask them a question, try and go to any hospital but this one
Damaged my life. Not listening patients, not picking up the phones, ignorants pretending to be profesionals, sad story that I trusted them with my body.
My thanks to the paramedics and nurses who tended to my wife on the evening of the 25th of April. Kind and considerate carers are worth their weight in gold. Please keep up your excellent work.
Kind regards. Vincent B Greenhalgh.
Had to go to A&E last night due to a painful splinter in my eyeball at gone midnight. Was told I wouldn't be seen for at least 2 hours. The waiting room was full of drunk people laughing and joking who blatantly shouldn't have been prioritised over people with actual injuries such as myself! I chose to go home and sort it myself because I had to get some sleep before work the next day. Abysmal services.
Amazing service. In and out within an hour on a Sunday. Thank you all so much!
Had an appointment in the colonoscopy unit today Dr Willert and his team are brilliant.
I was rushed by ambulance from Marple after falling down the stairs with suspected injuries to my back. Paramedics, Ambulance crew and hospital staff were amazing. I could have been paralysed without the care of everyone involved. I was really frightened and tried not to cry I was eventually sent home after ct scans which showed two broken bones in my back. Can't praise them highly enough
The staff are always very nice here, they even bring hot drinks.
My auntie was here due to her critical condition. The staff were amazing. The family are very grateful for all the hospitality and professionalism. It's institutions like this that make me proud of being British.
