Extremely rude security guard ruined the whole MoM...

Extremely rude security guard ruined the whole MoMA experience for me. I had just collected my bag and was about to leave the gallery with a smile on my face when I accidentally went out the wrong way. I was already nearly past the waterfall wall when the guard physically barred my way and very rudely told me that the exit was on the other side. He then proceeded to tell me that I had to drop of my bag before entering. When I told him that I would NOT drop off my bag since I was leaving, he just looked st me blankly.

The rudest person I ve met in all of Melbourne and very unprofessional. He had reddish brown hair and a beard. He should be relocated to a less prominent area of the gallery, or better yet dismissed.

I won t be going back to NGV thanks to this experience.

Love every bit of the exhibition. If you love art, you could be here for the whole day! Too bad for me, I only manage to be here for less than 2 hours. There are so many exhibitions to see and there are 3 levels. All free to go. Except for some seasonal ones where you need to pay.

Walking distance from the flinder s station. This is a must see for any visitors local or international. The exhibit is excellent and you will spend at least two hours here and more if you want to be thorough.

The gravity of history stands respected upon the walls and amongst the halls, the air carrys that illusive scent to you and you're awed by the art. Truly a beautiful place to spend time, the coffee is excellent to. Can't wait for my next visit.

It puts me in mind of the places of sacred beauty we as a species would hold sacred, kept, protected for future generations to hopefully enjoy as we did.

It's hallowed ground in the real sense of the word.

The NGV is so well laid out, it's like a new surprise around every corner. The information cards on the exhibits include more detailed information for those interested, and many also have a 'for the kids' spiel, which are just great. The current 'terracotta warrior' exhibit is absolutely fantastic. Book tickets in advance and get yourself down there for a great day out!!

The Escher exhibition was absolutely fantastic. Not just his artworks which were amazingly eye-bending but the whole exhibit experience by Nendo Studios that you walked through was designed to reflect as though you were inside Escher's 3D world. Loved it!

Also known as Ian Potter Centre, NGV is home to a large collection of paintings, sculptures, ancient artefacts, ceramics, etc, etc. Displays are rotated regularly and exhibitions (featuring international and australian artists) are held frequently at NGV.

Best part of NGV is that entrance is free (and only some exhibitions has a fee) so everyone can anjoy these works of art at little to no cost.

The triennial exhibition is a mind blowing three levels of installation, contemporary and existing exhibitions combining textures, sculpture, light and tech features, animations and cinematography. Truly gorgeous for kids and elderly alike. Spent 3 hrs there and time vanished! Great for sparking beginner art curiosity! Continuing until April 2021.

Pretty ordinary and incoherent collection - feels like a selection of entirely random bequeathments. Video installation not functioning. Significant portion of top floor given over to pictures of some chaps dogs - guessing book of exhibit would make great gift for someone you don't know too well who owns a dog.

As always this place never ceases to amaze. I did not go to the paid for section as the line was too long but I am sure it was worth the wait. Rather ventured around the expansive venue, which avails a plethora of art from different periods and genres. I m not a huge art buff, however whenever I go to the NGV I m never anything short of impressed, it s fun and interactive at times, and somber and reflective at others - which I assume is the ideal compromise for a gallery. I would definitely recommend going, but I m sure most of you probably have, but if you re visiting Melbourne, definitely plan a trip to the NGV.
