Increidible beer selection and great place to hang around!
Great Christmas gift ideas. Tasting Room most enjoyable. Outside activities closed for the season. On Wisconsin.
I really liked this place. The new biergarden is pretty cool looking. But the limited availability of their own beers on tap was a disappointment. Any brewery needs to have their full selection on tap.
The place where the best beer in America is produced. We stopped through on our way back to Mn and did the self guided tour and tried a few samples. I have had all the beers before but loved them fresh. Probably the most beautiful brewery in the world.
Biggest waste of time EVER! Sure it's pretty, but it's got zero accommodations. WIFI. NO. (An estate of this size and grace could do as much). 8$ pints required even if you don't want the glass (I came by bicycle!) There's more selection of their beer at the local gas station... before 9... which is way later than these Hicks close... 5 pm. Good luck eating while here... nothing. Absolute waste of time. And as a FIB... I'm glad they don't sell this swill in Illinois.
Beer is great. Location is great. Beautiful. Had a great time. But, was a little disappointed that the staff looked unhappy, weren't friendly and weren't helpful. Expected more from an employee owned business.
If you leave at 10am on a Saturday, you can be here a little after noon to stock up on cases of New Glarus Brewing 's finest. I do it a couple of times a year and I feel like Burt Reynolds doing the millennial version of Smokey and the Bandit. But instead of bringing Coors across the Mississippi, I'm bootlegging Apple Ale to Chicago, and my CB is a cell phone, the Trans-Am is an Acura, and instead of Jackie Gleason as Buford T. Justice, I have to contend with Rahm Emmanuel and his speed cameras.
Sit outside and enjoy a Spotted Cow or two while taking in the scenery or playing bags. Afterwards have your designated driver take you into New Glarus for a great meal at the Glarner Stube, and more free draft Spotted Cow, with your coupon from the brewery. And watch out for bears and bandits on your way back to the flatlands, over and out!
Great beers and open outdoor location to enjoy a beer overlooking Wisconsin farms.
Very tasty beer variety. No food available, so bring your own food.
Really cool location at the top of a hill. Tasting room is 8 dollars for 3 tastings or 1 pint and you get to keep the glass after. You also get a coupon for a free small draft at a bunch of local restaurants. The tour is pretty impressive too, very nice brewing facilities. They also have a nice looking outdoor beer garden but it was pretty cold when I was there
Love this beer my favorite so far are spotted cow .But all are very good. Really hope they keep the paper labels and the non twist tops I feel as though it makes it a little more authentic.
Scenery is beautiful. The factory is huge. Tour was a bit lack luster and the beer was pretty pricey. 8$ for a medium sized glass and 3 tastings. Cool experience the first time. Probably wont go back again. Cheaper at the store anyways.
Delicious beer and wonderful self-guided tour. Also, beer tasting is a must. You even get a free glass with it!
Great brewery. Excellent self guided tour and amazing hard hat tour. Staff is very helpful and answers any of your questions. Really cool exterior.
Absolutely a blast every time we have been. The self guided tour is awesome and well worth the price of free. :)
I always visit whenever I m back in WI, one of the highlights of my trip every time
Summer season is truly the best time to go due to their amazing outdoor Bier Garten. The brewery tour is nice but slightly underwhelming
Do it yourself tour? Price is right but disappointing for such a great beer company....
The self guided tour was a treat, but the overall brewery experience was a bit of a letdown. They do not serve food nor flights. You can get discounted, smaller volumes of brew for cheaper, but the variety of the tastings is pretty pitiful and on par or subpar to the selections available Wal-Mart and Kroger. They don't have so much as a table to sit and enjoy your drink.
You can certainly buy a larger variety of beers in crates located beneath the tasting room, but that doesn't contribute to the brewery experience itself.
If you're solely interested in the tour, I'd rate the experience 4/5. If you're looking for a place to bring a date for lunch or a tasting, I'd rate it 0/5, hence the 2/5 average.
Beautiful new facility and tasting area. Great to hang on the outdoor patio in the summer. Get special releases available at the brewery only :D
Our second time coming here and wonderful again! Delicious beer, a cool self guided tour, and an awesome beer garden!
This is easily the best brewery in the country however one of the most frustrating as well. New Glarus brewed some really amazing beer like the dancing man and Road slush but they have such Limited seasonal schedules.
Brewery is closed due to COVID19 until further notice. Check the website for updates.
The only brewery that brews a good authentic German Hefeweizen. It s the real deal.
Beer is good but this place is pretty lame. Not much to do, nothing to eat, not much on tap and in the middle of nowhere.
Great. Staff was welcoming. Brewery is beautiful. Was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more unusual hard to find limited beers there and the price for the beer was actually higher than at my local store.
Nice atmosphere for older adults. Not so much fun for kids. Really looks nice with lots of tasting choices. Much more commercial than it used to be. Has a festival or weekend bar feel to it.
The tour is nothing to write home about, since it is just a self-guided jaunt around the brewery, but New Glarus Brewing, and Spotted Cow in particular, is a Wisconsin state treasure. The brewery is 100% worth the visit, and the beer garden area is beautiful. Additionally, New Glarus is a super quaint little town and fun to have a wander around afterwards.
I liked Spotted Cow so much I wanted to check out the brewery. Very disappointing. You get there and follow the signs or the crowd to the tour. You see people standing in line for some sort of tickets. The tickets are for beer. So where is the tour? In the back corner of the gift shop. It's a self guided tour but a tour guide will take you through it when a tour is available. I tried several beers while there. Very disappointing. The beer store seemed overpriced. The best part was the view from the top and a glass of Spotted Cow. To me it's not worth going to again.
My fiance and I had a great time at New Glarus Brewery! We were here for 3 hours! We sampled the different beers, took pictures all around their beautiful bier gardens, and bought some treasures in the gift shop! You get to keep your glasses you sample from which is awesome!
You know that this is the best beer on the market so it's not going to have your basic beer price....or taste! I think everything is priced right for the service, ambiance, and taste! We loved it!
My Husband would like to suggest a 'pony' beer bottle and you should call it 'SPOTTED CALF'. There are many people that would enjoy a 'half' beer rather than a full size beer. I would like a half bottle for cooking as I like to use the beer in my batter for frying fish and fish sticks.
My husband really enjoys your beers and has a fun time telling others the funny names you give them.
Beautiful place & view. Good beer to sit back & catch up with a friend.
Great seating and atmosphere! Pet friendly and carry-in food is welcomed!
Took the bike trail from Madison down to the brewery for a Saturday excursion. Great day, beer and ride. Highly recommend New Glarus Brewing as a destination to sample delicious beers in a scenic location.
It's beautifully located atop the hills coming into New Glarus. The grounds are beautiful and in the warm seasons we like to take our beer on walks. The brewery itself is fashioned together like a replica of an old German/Swiss brewhouse, with lots of areas to rest and talk along the wonderful walkways and ruins. It's the cleanest, nicest brewery we've ever experienced.
I wish that the staff that worked the counters outside were a bit more friendly. We go at least 3 times a year. We usually pick up some seasonal beer at beer shop.
Have always liked the beer so had to see where it is made! Great location, make sure to check out the town. Brewery tour would have been better if a description of what you were looking at was provided...signage, brochure, etc.
Due to the outspoken owners and their negative view of responsible gun owners I will no longer endorse this company. Its disappointing to see owners who you'd think are humbled by their beginnings. Clearly not the case. Plenty of other wisconsin breweries we will support.
Great place for a stop. We make an annual trip to the brewery for some beer sampling and then downtown to enjoy some food and fun shopping. Brewery has great people working there to help you out and answer any questions. Great view at the overlook and enjoy the different flavors of beer they carry. Woukd recommend checking this place out.
Wisconsin brewer with great seasonal selection highlighting Wisconsin ingredients.
I have been all over the country and been to alot of brewery, this one has to be top 3 I have ever been to. Had to also pick up a case of Spotted cow.
Great Wisconsin only beer. Very well known and worth the recognition they get.
It was really fun to go there. You do the tour on your own, at your own pace. The beer is really good too!
What a rip-off. Place is beautiful, but you can't buy a beer without first buying a glass from them. First beer is $8.50 and refills are $5.50.
No thanks. We left and went to another brewery 15 minutes away. I like Spotted Cow, but come on. If I wanted one that bad I'll head to any bar in Wisconsin and pay the $4.
Best brewery over ever been too. Set on top of a hill for fantastic views. Still folded your that let's you walk very close to the brewing action. Great atmosphere to relax and have a beer. And also a place to buy beer to take home with you. Will be back for sure.
Even people who don't drink beer that much wiil appreciate the brewery and its surroundings.
An excellent place good beer
Beautiful place to enjoy beautiful scenery
Great place. Much bigger than expected. Sad they lock up at 5 on Saturday.
The beer is generally good, and sometimes great. The brewery site itself though is amazing. Beautiful outdoor area overlooking some pretty countryside, and the production facility itself is impressive.
We had an amazing time at the New Glarus Brewing company Brewery. It is honestly the best brewery I have ever been too and I have been to a lot. They have a huge beer garden with great views if New Glarus. Would greatly recommend going there sometime. They also have a self guided tour and gift shop which is interesting. Definitely a must see for a beer connoisseur.
I love New Glarus but their brewery experience isn't perfect. The tour was self guided and their brewery is simply amazing. However, the taproom is pricey and only has beers you can get at the grocery store. Additionally, the beers they have to-go are more expensive than the other stores in town. Still a fun time for anybody who is a fan of the brewery.
Did a wine tasting with food pairing, the foods were tasty & left with several bottles
My wife and I have visited this brewery several times in the past (a solid 4 star experience every time). We were there early this week and were disappointed in the experience. They have increased their pricing on just about everything from the merchandise to the beer. For example a six-pack of Spotted Cow was $9.50 in comparison to any local store where you can get it for $7.50. Being from Wisconsin, it feels like they are taking advantage of visitors/tourists.
To finish this review, I was going to say not sure we ll be back , but as I continue to think about this latest experience, I can definitively say we won t be back.
Wow...we have watched this brewery evolve over the last decade and it's amazing to see their transition! Just spent the afternoon at their brewery (we haven't been there in a couple years) and it was just great (and much larger!). We purchased some cheese and crackers in their little store, filled up our beer glasses and found an outdoor table to enjoy the afternoon. I can't comment on the cost of their six-packs there vs a grocery store, but I don't mind paying a little more for the atmosphere and experience. The other thing I love about New Glarus beer is that ALL of their beers are good, you just can't go wrong. I don't know who their brewmaster is but he should be very happy with himself. The only negative feedback I would give is for the (mostly girls) who are there to pour the beers...they should be way more focused on smiling and being good at their jobs and not engrossed in their cell phones and making the customers feel like an interruption and inconvenience.
I pushed the wrong rating in. I want to make sure that everyone understands that this is one of the best places i have ever been. Fantastic history of the couple's start
And how they over came the odds. They have done a great job! You need to visit!
If you're coming to Wisconsin for the first time (and like beer) this should be your first stop. New Glarus Brewing Co is nestled on a hilltop and boasts one of the best patios and outlooks in the state. You can opt for a self-guided tour the day of or reserve a hard-hat tour ahead of time.
Really awesome place in a beautiful setting. We loved the self guided tour.
Drove an hour out my way to come here and they are closed. Would have been nice to update your maps listing. Call ahead before you make a trip here. They apparently close when they like
A hidden gem in the rolling hills of southwestern Wisconsin, New Glarus Brewery provides an interesting and tasteful experience to all who make the trip to visit this center of the craft beer brewmaster's art. Old world craftsmanship and the newest of modern technology combine to make distinctive, drinkable, and great tasting beer.
Your trip to visit the brewery may require no small amount of time and travel to get there, but the minutes and miles will reward you with an experience well worth their cost. Dramatic scenery, a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable staff, a brewery seemingly always "under construction," and a chance to sample some of the best beer brewed anywhere, all combine to make the New Glarus Brewery a "Must See" travel destination.
Awesome spot, $8 will get you beer, a glass and a free walking tour. The place is huge.
Very disappointing! !!! The tour was just a matter of wandering around the building and learning nothing for which I paid $8 and got 1 glass of beer. I liked the old facility and tour much better.I brought some friends down from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan looking forward to an informative tours. We did not get it. There was no one to tell us about their brewing process or any signage to explain anything. We went down to Minhas in Monroe and and had a great tour and a great time with employees that were proud of their beer.
I usually come here in the summer, but decided to see what a tasting was like in the winter. I wouldn t recommend it. There were no tables and chairs at which to hang out. It s just an open room with everyone standing around trying to find a ledge to put their beer on. The gift shop looked half finished. I would ve loved to see more unique beers on tap. They had the usual spotted cow, moon man, and two women and a few more. I wanted to try something I haven t had. I also thought the tasting pours were overpriced. Overall not impressed with the vibe or experience.
Scenic location with really attractive landscaping. Not to mention the best beer on the planet.
Cool place with self guided tours loved the beer samples
Unfortunately, I've yet to visit their brewery, but a co-worker gave me a few of their beers on New Year's. Holy hell! I'm jealous Wisconsin gets them all to themselves. Cheers to your beers!
Free self guided tour through the brewery for Wisconsin's best craft beer.
Great views in the beer garden. Would be nice to see production line working in brewery. But always have a great time.
Labor Day weekend was a lot busier than I expected. Love their beer and they have a great selection in the gift shop
My wife and I had a great time here. The one star reviews of this place just come off as whiney. It's a brewery with lots of picturesque views of new Glarus. Other than the fact there were a ton of people here, there is absolutely no reason for one star. Great experience for anyone in the area who enjoys craft beer.
This place was awesome. Great views while sipping on either their sample sized beers, or a full pint (you get to keep the glasses for whichever size you purchase). I just wish they had a larger selection of brews, but it was amazing nonetheless!
Really nice brewery experience. Though I imagine it would be nicer in warmer weather the grounds/ outdoor area are great. The tasting room is simple and very fairly priced. We went with a pint at $8, glass to take home and discounted second rounds. Tours are self guided with plenty of posted descriptions.
Awesome brewery, the location is stunning and bonus it is dog friendly! Pro-tip: Go to the upper bar and get your glass and first pint included then meander around.
This is a brewery that has the feel (and cost) of a trip to Disneyland, but you really do have to see this place at least once. Spectacular facility and even more impressive grounds. $8 pints but you do get to keep the glass.
We took a day trip from Chicago to experience this brewery. The day we went (Friday) the tasting room was closed. They were offering beers in the shop as well as a self-guided walking tour. There was zero seating anywhere in the building and we had come specifically with books to settle in with a beer or two after the tasting. The beers were ok. We went home with a six pack of Stone Soup, which was better than anything they had on offer at the tasting.
The beer there is fantastic. Honestly, the trip would've been worth it just for that alone. However, their grounds are beautiful. It has a fantastic view of the country. If you're in Madison, definitely look into taking a detour over to New Glarus.
Terrible beer. Every style seems to be infused with the New Glarus taste. There's so much better available
Awesome place for a brewery tour (self or guided). You can grab some beer while you're there and hang out and enjoy the scenery.
Awesome place to go for a beer-inspired pilgrimage. But honestly, the staff is cool and the brews are great. I enjoyed the self-guided tour, but I wish I had a chance to go on tour led by brewmaster, too.
First time visit. Larger than I expected. Friendly staff. More selections than I expected.
I took the tour about 10 years ago. Tour was fairly pedestrian as it was self guided. The best part was the beer certificate for one of the local pubs. It made me go and explore the town. The town itself is definitely worth a walk about to explore.
I can't say enough about this great brewery. Amazing beer; I love the sours. Superb layout for touring, with or without hard hat. Nice little town too.
