Have seen better zoos. I am kind of disappointed the oldest zoo in Europe ... but definitely not with 700 spieses, the Planetarium was beautiful, the butterfly pavilion I exorcised more butterflies..for once is ok but definitely doesn't worth it 40 euro per person!!! There were no signs for the zoo in the city, not enough sings inside or paths so the visitors would be able to follow it without missing something. And from THE BIG 5 they have only the elephant... after Gaya zoo this one is one more disappointment. But the German's zoos are levels higher than the Dutch ones. the pictures look way better than the reality.

It is a pity that this zoo does not like the rest of the lodgings, just like the other animal parks in the Netherlands, especially the lions, monkeys and sea lions have an old and small stay!
Energy and money are put in a green piece of 't Veentje', but the animals do not care about that!

Lovely zoo and city park. Children enjoy. Nice playgrounds. Thanks to the renovation of Artis, the enclosures have also become more attractive to the animals. The aquariums are super with rain. Or the indoor enclosures of the reptiles. In short, we are a fan ...

One of the better zoos I have ever visited. Zoo boasts a very large and varied display of animals and all habitats look very well maintained and none of the animals appeared to be in any distress.

Particularl highlights for me would be the 'walk-in' exhibit featuring a friendly sloth and some diving fruit bats. We were approached by a zookeeper in the exhibit who was happy to share knowledge about all of the animals and answer any questions we had.

An unexpected on-site aquarium was also nice to see. Recommended if you are a zoo fan or if you fancy breaking away from the canal walks of Central Amsterdam.

Visit of the zoo with my 3 year old daughter. She loved it. The animals are visible and close.
Zoo in the heart of Amsterdam! To do and redo without hesitation. Remember to book your tickets in advance to avoid the crowds.

Great zoo. The layout is a bit confusing and the aquarium section is being renovated. Several places onsite to stop for a break and grab a coffee as well as relax. Prices for food at the zoo were fair as the food was good. Did not see any tigers at the tiger exhibit. Make sure to stop at the Micropia museum next door.

Always a good move to get the kids happy ... good place for the adult to unwind (or bring the kids, before you know it, they will be 10 years old and you will hardly get them anywhere else ..)

Friendly zoo, with a beautiful aquarium, what more can we say, white wolves which is not common, on the other hand a lot of animals not visible from where my period is normal, good visit, come during good weather

It is well laid out, beautiful and versatile. The staff go out of their way to keep the animals well and keep the cages clean. You can't really point out a lot of negative things, because in a way it's just well done. Nevertheless I cannot give the full stars, because after my stay in Kenya I have to say that I find the lion enclosure much too small and also bare. The same applies to the giraffe enclosure. The animals eat straw from cages. Here I lack spout and at least the leaning against a tree, so that not everything is made of steel.

Seeing these animals in the wild in Africa has changed my view of things a bit.

I think the price is ok and everyone who finds it too high should think about how much a dog or cat costs per month. The animals in zoos just have to be fed, cared for, cared for etc., but the price is completely ok. If you don't like this, consider that without this money you wouldn't have the opportunity to run a zoo.

What an amazing experience.

Children's animal party.
Whatever we were allowed to make the cup cakes for, beautiful evening.

beautiful zoo that has existed for a long time.
partly renewed partly still old condition.
pretty rich in public transport. There are also parking options for the car.

food and drink. normal soft drinks such as cola and fanta are not available anywhere. only vague drinks that are not very tasty.

the staff preparing the food was also very slow

Very nice zoo!

Very nice zoo!
I can't say that you must go there because there are way more places in Amsterdam that you can't miss before that.
If you're traveling and get bored or already visited in the important attractions there so go there! It's nice and good for families and kids!

I took my niece and nephew to Artist. They all loved it. It was perfectly arranged but 1 thing that bothered us was that no one could point out where toilets were or which ones wereopen for public. Every staff we asked, gave us different direction and having a children with you that can't hold them self made it hard and was a bit annoying to run around to find a restroom. So perhaps they should inform the staff wich toilets are open but we still had a great time and will definitely visit artist again.

Beautiful zoo, many animals that can be approached closely, unfenced areas for many including marmosets, butterflies, iguanas ... I think I paid about 23 and the zoo card 2, a shame! There are small carts for children at the entrance, really nice

Was a bit disappointed becauae there were an extreme number of birds and monkeys and nothing much else. One or two lions, one wolf, 2 jaguars in really small places. The aquarium, bird and monkey houses were cool though, that's why I'm giving them 4 stars.

I'm not crazy about zoos and this was no exception. Small enclosures and although staff clearly genuinely cared for the animals it was sad to see wild animals in such a man made restrictive environment.

Best zoo I have visited yet. Tons of different animals with an Aquarium, Insectarium, Mammals house, Butterfly house, etc. I came during light rain so there were not many people there and most animals were inside, but for most places you also get to look inside. I was also lucky to come during the feeding period so it was fun to watch the gorillas scavenge and take all the food for themselves. There are also open areas where you can enter with animals around you. The ARTIS employees are also very welcoming and extremely helpful. Overall an amazing experience.

Lovely Zoo, right in the center of Amsterdam. Kids loved the reptile house and the butterflies. Silverback gorilla's, chimps, lions, elephants too many animals to mention. And a planetarium, not often you see that at the zoo. Great day out.

Nice zoo, many different animals, birds, aquariums, insects, erc etc, the animal enclosures could be a bit wider and the indications at the enclosures are sometimes incorrect. But young and old can easily spend the day there. Lots of shady places, not unimportant in good weather.

A must see in Amsterdam! Not only for kids. Amazing and unique Animals and flowers. Aquarium, colorful butterflies, Flamingo, Penguins, Jaguar and many many more. Will probably visit again.

A little too expensive for the services offered. No entertainment, lots of closed places, passages under construction - all that did not change the price of the visit, even on the contrary. Discounts for a combined visit with Micropia were removed.

The oldest in the Netherlands remains beautiful. A piece of beauty in the wonderful Amsterdam. Attention to animal welfare (for what is possible of course in pens ..). Aquarium is definitely worth a visit. The stuff of biology pioneers is also surprisingly interesting.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to spend much time here but I have to say it's an amazing experience, seeing and reading about all the animals they have in there! I have it planned to visit ARTIS once I'm in Amsterdam again.

1 of the best city zoos in existence. Wonderful collection of animals that are brought to better and larger enclosures that are always well and cared for. Definitely recommended if you are in Amsterdam.

Had a lovely time at ARTIS today, highlights were the elephant family playing in the water and watching the sea lions swim underwater and their pups playing. Also enjoyed the insect house, wish we'd had longer to visit!

Wow a lovely place for the family to go, is a great day out and the animals are well kept (as to the eye can see), and the grounds them selfs are very beautiful and inspiring.

I have been on a number of occasions and had a wonderful experience. However on this occasion due to the covid-19 restrictions we was lead to believe it would be a well orchestrated experience. First we had to book tickets on line after the required registration, and chose a time as for the park to be in control of how many visitors may be allowed to roam at any one time. Also no tickets are available onsite to buy.

But to the contrary, When we arrived we had been instructed / redirected to park our car elsewhere as the Artis car park was full (600 car capacity) Which was a little strange due to the required pre booking non-sense. Also no alternative was given and told to perhaps drive around to find a spot (This is in Amsterdam!) We did have luck all the same and a 5 min walk.

Once we arrived at the Zoo / Artis there was too long cues, partly expected but not as big as previous visits. Also on cue happed to be for non-pre booked tickets and for normal walk i n sales. Advertised as being NOT available. Only pre-bookings. So not apparently true. No need to pre book I would say.

Once in the zoo-artis it self, there was no real control of visitors keep any distance, even though there was signs stuck to the ground and the odd attendant talking to people. There was good control at ships and restaurants, Also some directional posts for one way traffic i. certain places, and hand cleaning stations around the zoo. Not that its my habitual behaviour, so is just a note for reference.

Ok all said the day as a whole was good, just a few unnecessary hiccups I did think the park was more busy than expected and advertised, also more so than our previous 2 visits in the past years. The car park has NEVER in our experience even been half full. So that was a shock due to the pre booking and the 18.07 it cost me to park elsewhere for 3 hours.

Thanks for reading!

Not too big and can be done in about 3 hours. Compared to other zoos I visited, I felt that I was much closer to all animals. The highlight was clearly the seal training and the butterfly house. All signs and descriptions also contain texts in English

Nice, big zoo. The things that were built recently or are now under construction are very beautiful.
Too bad the large restaurant only sells organic or healthy things. So no cola but water with a flavor. Or responsible chips instead of lays chips.
