Small but enourmous. Positively contradicted city zoo. Nicely priced to walk around as UvA students, but, quite pricy to go as a regular tourist.

Great variety of animals and exhibitions but does have a long wait time to get tickets
The Artis Zoomer Evenings are really worth! Every Saturday during the summer months, the zoo is also open in the evenings and there are several additional activities. Besides lectures and tours there in the music chapel a musical performance. Delicious on a rug, picnic on the grass overlooking the ibex. You can bring anything themselves, but can get you all around the field; pizza, a bottle of wine, etc. Highly recommended.
Nice zoo it was just very busy
But the animals had more walking space
Super nice zoo. Animals all look healthy and a great way to spend a sunny day. Expensive entrance fee though.
It is always clean that is fine! So many visitors never get bored. kids continue to like it !! only the line is always sooooo long
Animals were very cramped even for zoo standards, felt sorry for them, lions were definitely the worst, I don't think youd comfortably keep two dogs there never mind lions, elephant and giraffe enclosures were a bit better, very nice aquarium and reptile house witch was a plus, also has planetarium.
The oldest animal park in Europe, updated to date. Wide variety of animals, good for relaxing walk. Smack in the center of Amsterdam.
Place with lots of vegetation, I liked the animals and the aquarium.
Nice zoo, a pity that there was no map of the park and that the lofts of the animals are so small. Furthermore, everything looks nice and cared for!
A beautiful zoo. Still being rebuilt and improved. Lots of information about the subjects. Enthusiastic staff, who know a lot about the animals to be cared for. Also suitable for very small children.
A classic zoo that feels more focused on showing off animals than working with natural habitats and conservation. They will have problems but right now it feels good and well-run.
Very fun for children and adults of all ages. There are lots of different animals from butterflies to seals. It is a great place to visit even when it is cold outside as lots of areas like the reptile, gorilla and butterfly houses are inside
Beautiful zoo. Well cared for and close to the animals
A zoo in itself is a place that is saddening for animals kept in cages or in captivity in any case, so here we are talking about one of the historic European zoos, very nice kept and inside a huge garden among the canals of Amsterdam. The variety of species is impressive for insects, birds and fish in the aquarium and tanks.
To visit for a walk in nature.
Great zoo, a lot of species! Very nice for kids and adults, also
Still a nice animal park, beautiful improvements with a very nice, new home for the elephants. Feels like a city park, pleasant atmosphere!
Very surprised with the beauty of the park in the middle of Amsterdam! They have a nice restaurant next to the entrance where you can come and enjoy the few birds and flamingos without buying a ticket to the zoo. Inside is a lot of nature, many benches just to sit down and enjoy the views. I loved the Butterfly place and also an Aquarium (many times better than the "Sea life" in Scheveningen). I visited park on Sunday from 10:30 till 15:00 and it wasn't super crowded, so you really could enjoy every view without being pushed of other people. They also have nice places to eat inside and prices are not as expensive as you would expect for the Amsterdam. Very recommended place to spend your day!
Another prison more than animals, to keep humans happy. They should ban these sites. A pity! If there is no demand, there is no business.
I went to see Micropia and as it was next we entered to see it and it was spectacular. All super care.
Cozy zoo. Especially now that they are improving so much.
I liked the cleanliness and the species of animals never seen. Vengono.rispettate their needs. They are beautiful
Not as it had been. Not so beautiful and surprisingly unfortunately.
Lovely garden a wild range of animals, a really good day to enjoy the natural life, it's good to spend it with kids
Very expensive, 21.50 per person plus parking space 9.00. He doesn't offer enough for that.
The jaguar babies are super cute.
The seals and the crocodile have far too little space.
You can easily create this zoo within a day.
Playgrounds for children are available.
Great city zoo. A good selection of animals with plenty of playgrounds
Absolutely great activity found right in the middle of Amsterdam, easily accessible by tram! Found myself wandering for hours taking in every exhibit I could. Was sad to finish up!
Went with my 11yr old son. He enjoyed it. Guess the Mandrill monkeys were the most playful ones :) The elephant and the lion were the most majestic animals as per my kid... Net net fun time for like 5-6 hrs
No need to pay and you can sit next to the flamingos view. Really nice!
Yesterday in Artis with my daughter. What a disappointment. I know that measures are being taken with regard to the corona. But in Artis this has taken a lot of the experience away. Last month at Burger Zoo only 1 More
Nice zoo. Good play opportunity for our grandson <3 and enough rest places for a bite and drink. At the end we had the feeding + show of the sea lions. Personnel involved. Also after the show all the time for explanation and questions.
Small enclosures, lots of weeds among the flowers, outdated
Nice zoo but the animals seem more depressed than anything. Not as nice as the Zoos we've been to in Germany or the USA
Last 45 years ago. Wonderful to see again. Also the old buildings in and around the park. Piece of nostalgia.
It was very nice but the animals just have very small lofts. Also the restaurant two cheetas is incredibly expensive
Zoo was super parking lot less. Parking at the zoo was full in a designated parking garage parked the car. But activating the ticket was rather difficult. So that we had to pay the full amount of parking fees. While 10 euros with an activated ticket would be the cost.
Decent, traditional zoo close to the center of Amsterdam. I ve seen better, for instance Burgers Zoo in Arnhem.
Cozy zoo, continuous In development, just a pity that catering and parking are so expensive. Furthermore, very cozy.
Unfortunately it was already too late at 16: 30h to go through the Tiergarten completely. And for 25 EUR per person - we were four - and the remaining time of grad times 1.5h, much too expensive.
Very chill place, many places to sit and enjoy the sun. Seen zoos with more animals, but Artis has a specific charm. Micropia a nice addition.
Very nice zoo full of animals of many species, but the most interesting part, even if you can not absolutely touch, are the different points where animals like the lemurs are in contact with the public
It is nice but it is not described here
Really fun for families, but everything inside is relatively high
It is advisable to visit them without their official vacations
Well worth a visit
A paradise for children and a holiday for adults. Beautiful trees and lots of flowers ... and a variety of animals, make this place beautiful ... Within the facility you can relax with a good bite and refresh yourself with coffee and various juices ...
This was, by far, the best zoo I've ever been too. All the animals were clearly well cared for and seemed lively. We got great views up and close of a lot of animals we'd usually not get great views of at other zoos.
What was also a pleasant surprise was the lack of crowds, especially for such a great zoo. It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit and I just wish we had more time. We could have stayed watching the gorillas all day. The other highlights were the small mammals building, the birds and small monkeys building, and the walk-through wallabies enclosure (saw a couple with their babies poking their heads out of the poach!)
Definitely would go back!
The zoo is beautiful though the stays of some animals on the small side and for some food or drink you better get a stamp at the gate and somewhere outside the park to get food / drink or take away artis unfortunately only sells from that organic junk !! And nothing else for those who want to have the choice themselves
Beautiful zoos with historic buildings is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands
Great place to spend a whole days in Amsterdam, if you are tired if channels and crowded narrow streets. We spent there 6+ hours 2 adults without kids!!!
The zoo is really original, the animals are walking just near you like in a wild. There is Elephant family, Giraffe family and huge number of other animals from all over the world.
Besides, there is a planetarium and aquarium there. really must visit , especially if you are with kids!
Very expensive but worth the money. Especially the children's rickshaws can be borrowed for free
Great zoo! Good variety of animals, love it when the zookeepers give information about the animals and feed them.
Brilliant zoo! The cafe over by the giraffes is absolutely fab and not outrageously expensive (still quite desr though). Butterfly house is a must for the blue Morphos.
Very nicely laid out animal park !! Beautiful animals in natural residences. Only it is quite expensive and a map costs 2 and there are no maps in the park, so I recently got lost a bit.
Furthermore, definitely recommended !!
a large corner of nature where you can spend quiet hours. fantastic also the artis micropia absolutely recommend. all taken care of in the smallest details, 5 deserved stars
We got there just as the animals were being fed and let out for the morning they all seemed happy and well cared for
This is a place that as a British person I did not really know existed. My boyfriend being from The Netherlands suggested we go there and we went and I really did enjoy this place. I really like the way they structured the park and me being an animal passionate person myself really felt that this was a positive experience to see in Amsterdam.
Despite having bad experiences at various zoos worldwide in the past, this without a doubt is the nicest zoo I've ever been to. All the animals' enclosures are well kept with lots of variation for them, and they all look so happy! Wonderful place and so BIG! Lots to do and see. Really enjoyed my visit here and would recommend.
Beautiful city zoo. Micropia well worth a visit too!
Absolute magical place even in the rain. The animals are so much closer than any zoo I have been too. Super fun for kids all ages. The zoo is very well cared for. The new space of the elephants is so fun to walk through.
Nice, and nice interior spaces, only too tight spaces for most animals. Gorilla females were far too fat, seemed highly pregnant. Instance said the artisan employee ... Funny ..
Was supposed to go to Micropia. Ended up here instead. Was great anyway
A nice zoo. Yes there are lofts that are old but they are busy to renovate everything. But it happens piece by piece.
It's very nice zoo! I even can't say what we like more: whether it were elephants family swimming in the special pool and spraying the audience with the water or the weaver birds building their nests hanging on the branches. Or maybe it were saki monkeys or marmosets climbing the creepers in front of your face and you need to keep yourself not to touch them. Or maybe it were baby gorilla with its family: a serious mother, a responsible aunt (or sister), a majestic father (his fur was just incredible!). At least nobody was able to make their choice of the most appealing or beautiful or interesting animal in that zoo. Just visit to Artis!
Loved that place! Full of animals, huge place for all day. There is a restaurant but isn't the chapest. Free with I amsterdam
Beautiful zoo, nicely laid out, right in the center of Amsterdam. Therefore really small cages for the animals, they do not have much room to move like in Burgers Zoo, for example.
Great zoo, lots of different animals to see and nice to just walk around and enjoy a quiet slice of Amsterdam
Beautiful zoo, only the hospitality at the entrance was very bad, Sunday and a lot of angry customers who were dissatisfied with their drinks. My latte was half full !! sold very dirty The rest of the hospitality industry at Arthus was fortunately completely okay
With all due respect for the history but this is really no longer possible in 2019, there are so many good spacious zoos nowadays (Hoenderdael, Blijdorp, ouwehands, Burgers etc) what is the added value of Artis? It is completely unclear to me that so many people go here every year, if animals are removed and a beautiful city park is created, then a million people still come to see greenery in Amsterdam.
After 3.5 hours we had seen everything and were we also allowed to tap 22 euro parking fee?! 2x as much as the Efteling ... Buildings are beautiful and the site certainly has history, but you won't see me there again.
Artis is a nice city zoo. Much is being renewed, which benefits the animals.
Oldskool zoo. Fun and good to do for people in a wheelchair / kids in a buggy. Speaking of kids, there were a lot of them so do not go if you can not scream.
Loved it here! Favourite part is the monkeys of course :) you get to enter their enclosure and stand right next to them as they climb about and eat. They also have a large variety of birds throughout the park, in enclosures or not - Herons and other wild birds thrive here, including green parakeets. All the animals seem very happy and have very creative enclosures which often means you can get closer and see them better. Catching the Lions feeding was the coolest thing! Definitely worth going, I'll be visiting again :)
The perfect place if you like nature, science and animals. It is rare to see animals being so free and so close to the zoo visitors. The aquarium is amazing- so much variety and beauty
During these warm days in the summer a morning in Artis is perfect. Many animals are fed. Not too busy not too warm.
